Yes, I believe that certain types of cancer can be cured using the placebo effect. It depends on the setting and the professionals involved. As far as the cripple, I don't believe it. He's clearly deceiving some people ALL the time. Read the YouTube comments on some of his videos, and you'll notice that the majority of people are not deceived. As far as prominent people visiting him, I don't know what to tell you. I know that Jesus Christ is imaginary, and yet the POTUS admits that he seeks his guidance from this imaginary person. Is he telling the truth or appealing to a particular demo? From experience, I would say the latter. The one president I know who paid him a visit did so after one of his usual ambiguous prophecies. Was the prophecy a big deal in his/her country? That would explain why the visit was arranged. It was a PR move. It's considered a good thing in our society for someone to act like they're in constant contact with God. Until of course that person straps a bomb to their best and start running at you.

Here in Atlanta, churches are routinely robbed during the collection of offerings. Armed robbers enter while service is ongoing and demand the cash in the plates. Many of the more affluent churches though, have armed security posted at the doors while the members are paying the pastor with their cash. After all the money has been collected, the armed security leaves and service resumes as if nothing happened. Another problem of late for the churches in Atlanta is the vandalism of their property for copper and other metals that can be resold.
