Lotalways:

Please help a sister, Houston Mamas bikoooooo

Dr. La now charges a non-refundable deposit of $150 which will eventually be deducted from your full payment. I know El Paso charges $150 as well, not sure if they make it part of your payment.
His fees like so many have mentioned already are:
$3340: $2500 doctor's charges, $445 labs, $145 initial visit, $250 ultrasound. I tried to negotiate, them no gree. I have tried to see if I can do some of the tests here in Nigeria but the prices I am getting at my hosp is more expensive so, the $445 will be going to them.

I am leaning more towards him bc I think he is expensive for a reason. Done my research on him and compared him with the other doctors at WHMC. To ice it, with the wonderful comments at the beginning of this thread about him, one of my friends used him last year and says good things about him and his services. Plus WHMC is a better location for me.

Other fees include:
WHMC vag/CS: 2500/4000
Epidural: 1200
Surg Assistant: 250
Paediatrics: 500/600
Pathology: 200/400
Hearing Test: $326
Circumcision: $325
I believe the last three can be negotiated.

I see Houston is getting more traffic nowadays bc of MIHS's change in cost. Good luck big bumps! Any January houston bound mama's that want to hook up can write me at my username at rocke t m ail. I will not accept pms.

Saving mode has been activated to give this baby the best entrance to this world grin grin

Why do we always try very hard to bring Nigeria down?
If we put that same amount of energy in being positive about our nation, it will change our mind set and attitude.
We have no other country to run to!!! We better start loving and making this one and only better.
Family / Re: My Friend Is Getting Married To A Cheat; How Do I Stop Her by weaseloo: 12:10am On Sep 06, 2014
emma2002: You've got to do everything in your power to expose this evil or else after the marriage when issues begin to show up [especially with the fact that this type of problem sticks around and hardly goes away] your conscience will be greatly troubled and you may not be able to forgive yourself for keeping mute, not to talk of your friend who will later realize you were aware and kept silent.

My Suggestion: Do not speak with your friend first, attempt to get the audience of the guy show him all the evidences and together see how he can confess to her and possibly be out of the picture until they have reconciled. Your friend will thank you forever, when she discovers you were behind the scene orchestrating the event.

Assuming he refuses, you now know better the stuff he is made of and have a better reason to open up to your friend.

My opinion though...

Was thinking the same thing. If dont want to tell your friend, confront the guy with your evidence and see how he handles it. Make sure you record the conversation as evidenc to your friend.

I think you should put some distance between you and your boyfriend and then get close to God. I mean get close to God not close to a pastor. Ask God to reveal his plan in your life to you.
Family / Re: What's Wrong With Having Only One Child? by weaseloo: 11:44pm On Sep 05, 2014
It is nobody's business how many children you will like to have. If that is what you have decided, stand by it. You alone know your reasons.

However, not praying for that but, what if something happens to the one you have? If that doesn't worry then, go ahead. Live your life the way you love and have faith nothing will happen to your child.

Enjoy.

LeonessAug: I thank God for a successful birth and now in transit to go back home. I had a great time in Phoenix with wonderful people in Crossland. Here is a tip to get your baby's document in good time;
=Go to the closest vital office when you are strong enough to go out as the birth cert is ready like 3days after birth. The popular office is 3003 W. Thomas road and it's $20 per copy.
=Enroute afterwards to the post office, the most popular amongst my clique is at 520 N Central Downtown Phoenix. The officers would snap your baby's passport photo and ensure you have your notary letter if your hubby isn't around (notary public is acceptable). Total cost is about $196 and you will be mailed your baby's blue passport in less than 2weeks.
=Once you receive your baby's passport, start the Nigerian visa application immediately. Follow the instruction on the website and you can call the embassy on (202) 986-8400 ext 1043 for more info. Kindly endevour to apply yourself as the process is quite easy. Your child will be granted 2yrs visa, printed visa and not handwritten, record is on immigration portal. Do not use an agent pls. Fill up the online application form on SW Global LLC website, purchase money order of $180 and send it to their address via post. Link up the serial no of your money order to your online application so they can easily acknowledge when they receive the hard copy. Call them for follow up on 860-693-4630. Then send a copy of your SW Global receipt and acknowledgement copy, 2 passport photographs, baby's US passport, copy of baby's bcert, copy of parent's bio data page of Nigerian passport, consent letter jointly signed by both parent, $30 money order for processing. Package it and send to Nigerian Embassy in Washington DC via a return overnight envelope which is $40 for to and fro...... Total for the visa and postage is appx $250 and you will receive it back in a week.

This is just my token.... I wish you all safe delivery and a good time. Love u

Thank you so much for this. Exactly what I was looking for. Needed to know I can be able return to Nija a month after giving brith. This is totally doable.

Education / Re: Ebola: Schools May Resume Mid-september – Health Minister by weaseloo: 7:40am On Sep 04, 2014
The kids better remain at home till this Ebola thing is over. It will surprise them how fast this thing can spread with children involved.

Imagine a case where the child begins to get symptomatic in school and vomits on other children, how do they intend to manage it. Abeg, for their safety and the safety of the population, we can all hold on for a few more weeks. Let them not forget how fast Ebola kills.
The private schools may not live to enjoy the money they are pursuing.

I agree with the comments here saying they are confused. Going back and forth shows un-seriousness.

Parents should speak out and kick back too. We are the first to contact this things when it beings to spread. Take to twitter and other social media mediums to make our voices heard.

bloggerina:

Hello, first I just want to say that this is a wonderful thread, lots of useful info. Its a pity I found out about this thread AFTER I had my baby in the US earlier this year. lol
Anyways, I just want to provide helpful info for the person who asked about another doctor in West Houston Medical Centre. I had my Son there in Feb this year, my doctor was Dr Jeanie Huynh. Fantastic doctor! A friend's sis-in-law had used her before so I went to her and I must say, i'm glad I did. She also did my son's circumcision and it was fantastic. I had emailed the doc's office and also faxed my medical report in advance. They didnt accept payment in advance anyway, had to pay everyth when I got there. So here's what I spent a few months ago:

Dr Huynh's Fee - $2,000
Additional OBtests @ Doc's office - $270 (please do as many of the tests as you can do in Naija)
Circumcision - $255
Hospital Fee - $4,000 (I ended up having a C-Section coz I developed PIH when I arrived in the US)
Epidural - $1,200
Paediatrician - $93 (Dr Huynh's office suggested a paediatrician to me that also gives discount to Dr Huynh's patients so this was quite cheap. Otherwise I would have spent $800 if I had used WHMC's Paed).

. I understand that having a baby in the US can be daunting, esp if you havent done it before so it pays to have people assitst with first-hand info, questions, clarifications etc. Am available to help sha.
I wish everyone a success in this quest and all the blessings of parenthood!!! May our investments in our children's future by having them in the US be fruitful in Jesus Name!

Thank you bloggerina.

Snowles:

Hi, my first post here, loving the group so far. I used Dr Fagbohun and Oakbend medical center in Richmond early last year. The service was exceptional from start to finish especially at the hospital. Thing is Richmond is about an hour's drive from where I stayed in Houston but I had family to drive me around.
Dr's fees ~$2800 CS
Hospital ~$3100 CS 3 days
Lab work~max $200
Anesthesia~$1000*
Circumcision~$300 *
Not so sure about the items with * they were either cheaper or a little bit higher.
Cheers!

Thank you Snowles.

I am looking for somewhere not too far from the 610 loop. I had options of choosing from Sugarland and then Oakbend like you recommended. But it may not be convenient for me. Though I am staying with a family, not sure how mobile I will be, WHMC is a better location for me.

Thank you for your comments though, I am sure someone else will gain from it.

weaseloo: After reading all the posts about WHMC, I decided to contact Dr. La's office. I called and they sent me a layout of their fees. To my surprise, his charge is a whooping $3340! I think this is too expensive. I remember I have read some people say they paid about $2770 or near that. The other prices remained the same like hospital fee (4000 for CS), epidural (1200). By the way can these be negotiated? Again, this hearing test of a thing $326? How important is it?

Can someone recommend another good doctor they have used in Houston that is cheaper? I prefer to use a doctor whom someone has a good testimony about. I am not good at picking someone from a list cause I end up not having good experiences.

For ladies that had boys, is WHMC/Dr La's circumcision good, or should I look for Jewish people to do that for me? Would not want to put the child through 2 rounds of pain, so I am planning ahead.

Cheers guys! Much love to all contributors! You guys rock!!!

Help o! Dr. La's office insists they cannot come down on their $3340 fee. Need a cheaper doctor.

IjayMama: Hey Nairalanders, great discussions & great people here who have been very helpful to others. I've followed d thread only for a few wks and I did get some helpful tips, therefore I'll share a few too. Although I'm a frequent traveler to the US , this time I was traveling to have my first baby and I was nervous. Anyways,I arrived on Monday morning, POE Houston. Was asked d usual question abt d purpose of my trip, said summer vacation, then d officer asked if I'm expecting a baby to which I said yes. He told me to step aside and sent me to d secondary investigation rm. I waited for abt 30mins and was called into a rm. d guy asked what I'm in d US for, and I sincerely said to have a baby. He asked if I had contacted a hospital and had any correspondence, I said I hve contacted a hospital but they won't discuss with me till they see my physically, that is their policy. He asked of the name of the hospital, I told him. He asked if I had cash, I said yes. Hw much? I said $9800. He told me to bring it out and hand to him. I did. He counted it one by one, was satisfied and handed d cash back to me. Then he said I shldnt accept any form of aid from d hospital even if it's offered to me and I shld ensure I pay all my bills and issued a zero balance on the receipt from the hospital as I'll be requested to show it on my next entry or visa application to the US. And I was let in. One lesson is to be sincere and the other is to carry CASH not Naija ATM cards cos they can't tell hw much u hve on ur card. Sufficient cash and ur ATM is gd too. Even if you have paid your medical bill in advance, it pays to still have cash on you at the POE.

P.S.
For those coming to Houston, I registered with Methodist Hospital. Their hospital bill is $2538 for vaginal delivery and $3780 for CS. Epidural is an additional $1500 which is optional. And I chose Dr. Le whose bill is $1500 for delivery and prenatal visits which include ultrasound scans and prenatal vitamins. The only thing not included in this package is tests which are not compulsory esp if you have done them in Nigeria. This is a fair deal & my first visit yesterday was gd. Don't 4get to come with your medical report from Nigeria as this will come in handy for the Dr, they won't want to take up your case blindly.
Regards.

Thanks for your insightful post.

How many weeks were you? I will like to have my baby in Houston too and do not have more than 3 months to spend so I am looking for a doctor that will take me at 34 or 35 weeks.

I will also like to know which airlines will allow me travel at this number of weeks.

Any suggestions will be of great help.

Hello all,

I have been reading from page 1, unfortunate for the loss of the 150 pages whew. I wonder the wealth of info that was lost. I have found this thread to be amazing. Exactly what I was looking for when I searched.

I will like to ask your views and reasons to this question, I am not being critical or anything like that. Just thinking: why we would want to go through the lot of trouble giving birth in the US?. My fear is just that, like the UK, the Americans can wake up one day with a law that will clamp down on citizens not living in the US, then the heartache would start because our hopes of benefiting in the future will be ended.

I had my first child in the US and am making plans to do it again, so I am not biased.

Would love to hear your opinions.
Family / Re: I Love My Husband, but I Am Loosing Trust. by weaseloo: 12:41am On Dec 26, 2013
Bla bla bla, indeed she has made a mistake by marrying the guy. Well, they are now MARRIED, what is the way forward?

@OP, if you really love this man and just like you believed initially that he will give his ex up and took a leap of faith and got married, you need to take a leap of faith and act by saving your marriage.

Remember the Bible telling us that faith without works is dead. You just have to confront the b..i..a..t..c..h and tell her to leave your husband alone. Lay it down for her that the man is married to you not her. Join this with your prayer and kindness to your husband and you will see results. Don't let them graduate into sleeping with each other because that will surely happen - with time.
I don't believe the "be patient" strategy will work in this your case. Work on both of them. If you can't confront her yourself alone, find a crazy friend of yours to help you.

It is the above advice or you condition your mind that this marriage may not progress since your man's head is somewhere else. I hate to say move on - the truth is the earlier the better. Let him go and wait for his gf. Know where you stand with him before you give him children. Don't make the mistake to think kids may change his mind.

God sent me in angel in the form of the little girl that lives with me. She is smart, intelligent and very very good. I have taken her in as mine, my child. She goes to school and lesson, eats at the table with us, does everything thing with my family, sleeps on the same bed with my kids. In fact some times I even lie to people that she is my child.
I believe in treating people right. Growing up, an older cousin lived with us who would always always maltreat me, give me huge chores to do before I can eat, would say very unkind words to me etc. I resolved that that was no way to treat a fellow human being. That person would never forget it. Always keep in mind the saying that: whatever you put into something, that is what you will get out. Very simple.

I think I understand Beverly's behaviour more after hearing tell the story of her life today. She had to hustle to keep her head up. She was ABLE to do so while attempting to build a career for herself even at her young age.

Every body on this earth has a story. The way you act right now is as a result of your past experiences in life.

Did Bev choose what happened to her parents? You be the judge while you continue to judge her.

Right now, Bev is my most favourite contestant now that Bassey is gone.

k4kenny: Ok, I'm d late comer here cheesy. Had both my babies here in Nigeria in d same hospital (R Jolad) and I must say their service was impeccable smiley.

With my first, I opted for elective CS cos of d baby's size and fear dey catch M̶̲̅ε̲̣ grin. Was awake throughout d 30mins surgery and I felt them bring my boy out. That first sound was priceless cheesy. Recovery was nasty, Dunno why naija doctors don't give strong pain killers. Just paracetamol :-{ . Thank God for quick recovery.

With my 2nd, during my antenatal, I repeatedely told them I didn't want another CS, they told M̶̲̅ε̲̣ to consider the possibility as my first baby wasn't 2 yrs at the time. They also told M̶̲̅ε̲̣ the couldn't induce labour as the internal scars were probably not healed.

When I finally went into labour on d 12th of january, they took M̶̲̅ε̲̣ into a private ward and administered an injection that wound soften my cervix. After 9 hours with only 3cm dilation, they decided to manually dilate d cervix with a water balloon thingy (dunno d name of d procedure), hurt like crazy. That took the dilation to 5cm, that's when I started to feel the REAL labour pains. They kept giving M̶̲̅ε̲̣ d injection to soften my cervix (each was more painful than d last) finally at 12.05 on d 13th of jan, I was finally fully dilated and ready to push. My lil princess arrived at 12.15am after a lil episiotomy.

The nurses and doctors were rily professional and encouraging M̶̲̅ε̲̣ all thru(even though I was beind a total diva grin). They respected my wishes of not wanting CS and did all they could when d cervix wasn't dilating even though they couldn't induce d labour
My naija experience wasn't bad o. Some hospitals here are really good, wonder why some heartless health practitioner would turn a joyous event to a tragedy cos of negligence.

Is this the R Jolad in Gbagada??

This child must have seen sucking of dick somewhere and that is how he knows what it is. I do not think this is yet about homosexuality because of this age, he does not understand what he has seen. The father should check his computer gadgets and devices and make sure that the child has not accidentally been watching porn. He is a child, he does not know what it means. He should be made to understand that such acts are EVIL and a no go area. I almost died the day I discovered that my teenage niece was watching indecent videos on the iPad. How did she get there? It started with her innocently watching clips of Dora on the iPad to music videos and then to men and women doing stuff....Children that watch iPad are 3-clicks away from watching indecent materials and that is a fact.
The child should be removed entirely from such exposure. I think he will forget in the long run and vehemently warned not to ever be seen doing such. I just pray and hope he is not being abused by anyone around him.I agree with baby_123, find out form the child where he learnt it from, its another good way to know more.
Good luck to your friend, even though it is very embarrasing, he should be thankful that he found out this early. Abeg, monitor your kids, we live in a dangerous age.

Hello ladies I'm TTC #2. My gynae has recommended I get an HSG. I am very skeptical about it because I heard it is a very painful procedure. But it looks like I am going to go ahead with it.
My questions are can anyone recommend a good center in Lagos where I can get this done. My gynae was going to give me a referral. But I will like to get referral from you guys based on your experiences and successes. And how much it will cost as well.
Also what should I expect after the procedure. Were you given antibiotics? And what product and dosage? Did you have bleeding, were you in pains after the procedure? How long did it take to resume BDing.
My email is weaseloo @ rocketmail . com
Thanks ladies, looking forward to your advises.
