Like I asked sometime ago, when will we begin to browse in MB. A new decade will soon start and we are still stuck with kilobytes, even the new companies rolling out are nowhere near 0.5MB on a regular basis. Glo-1 has been launched, it remains to be seen how this will radically affect our browsing experience. When Main One rolls out next year, we hope we will be able to coast in MB/sec.
I just wish that somehow the networks can collaborate on this and push the frontier forward again by combining efforts to help achieve this.
Very soon too, I hope we can ban or bopycott any provider who gives us less than 5MB/second for the money we pay them.
New investors and enterpreneurs please help us

Hi Jude, how is your mum now? I think your mum has diabetes like you said or perharps let us say hyperglycaemia. This condition is never static, there are times when the blood sugar rises and times when it would fall to subnormal levels. It requires constant monitoring to be able to adjust the treatment accordingly. Dietary manipulation is a form of therapy as is the use of drugs, injections (insulin) and of course many new modalities some of which are still in clinical trials. She needs to be properly investigated to determine the cause of her hyperglycaemia which occasionally swings to hypoglycaemia, as other conditions may be responsible for this. I also hope she is not loosing weight anymore.

They claim it is fair usage policy. What about the times when the network is slow or not connecting, them no dey remember fairness to the consumer.By the way, dem never tell us how it came to be 3Gig and not 5Gig or 10 Gig. When are we going to connecting at speeds of 8 or 10MB?
Health / Re: Nigerian Patients Can Sue Hospitals For Negligence by webgenius(m): 8:09pm On Dec 05, 2009
The cases will be considered on their merits if the arbiter is unbiased or unifluenced. A situation where in our avant garde hospitals patients have to go and buy syringes, gloves, sterile packs, and other mundane items (let us not mention instruments, life-saving machines, etc) which are generally not available how can anyone in his right mind begin to persecute even those working under such deplorable conditions?
There are millions of new techniques for doing certain procedures with modern equipment, which have become available as far back as the 70's and early eighties which are not available in Niger eg the procedure for uncomplicated appendicectomy is no longer open surgery but laparoscopic surgery and the patient can go home in a day or two and resume work in a few days thereafter, but this is still not available here.
The world has very honestly left us behind by light years

Hi Remii, with time some desperate lawyers will offer their services for free or a percentage of the money for compensation and encourage patients to institute legal proceedings. The truth is that we have quite a lot of issues to resolve before this kind of policy will work well here. The facilities in our hospitals (99%) is grossly inadequate, the allocation to health is absymally low, even our top teaching hospitals cannot have uninterrupted power supply, UCH used to have problem getting water for many years. The list of inadequacies in the system can fill many pages and volumes of literary works. Is it in this kind of setting that you would want to enforce legal aspects of medicine?
Health / Re: Nigerian Patients Can Sue Hospitals For Negligence by webgenius(m): 7:45pm On Dec 05, 2009
I really hope it is a welcome development. Downside is that it would mean cost of care would reach the high heavens as practitioners begin to practice defensively: send you to do a myraid of investigations necessary and otherwise to protect themselves from litigation, ofcourse the patient will also pay for the medical insurance (Medical Defense Union etc) which the caregivers will obtain to pay for litigation etc.
Is our system ready for this?
I'll rather suggest other measures while not condoning malpractice: such as each professional association ensuring that the ethics of practice is upheld, instituting continuing medical education (CME), Postgraduate specialization should become compulsory for every qualified doctor, nurse etc as is the case in the USA,Britain and other developed countries, procedures should only be done by those specifically trained formally to do them and up to a certain level of competence. A situation where a newly qualified doctor is expected to do an appendicectomy is not acceptable, even a post fellowship doctor not trained in Surgery is not allowed to do this. In many of our general hospitals even qualified Surgeons are expected to be able to do every type of surgery eg an Orthopaedic Surgeon is aked to carry out a prostate gland removal which he has no training for. The practice of allowing general duty medical officers who have acquired "experience" to carry out surgeries or procedures on patients without any formal training is very wrong.
I have many more suggestions, but let me take a break before my post becomes too long

Using normal zoom means getting a new modem as I was told it is not possible to switch from one plan to another (i.e. zoomblast to easy) using the same modem.
Computers / Re: Starcomms Izap - Is It Really Fast As Starcomms Claim? by webgenius(m): 11:23am On Dec 05, 2009
Who is having the upperhand in the market right now: CDMA OR The 3G mobile networks? Which is better in your opinion?
Why are the CDMAs not responding to the challenge the mobile networks are giving them, i.e. we have not seen significant improvements in their QoS, drop in the cost of their service ( mobile networks are generally around N10000, while CDMAs are 15-16000 for similar type of service).
Where will the pendulum swing in the next year or 2?

Hey, where is everyboby? Our favourite forum is being pushed to page 2. Comm'on all you regulars, there's surely got to be something to yarn about. Anyone tried the Glo broad access. The adverts do not say it will start next year as is claimed on another forum. If it would why are they aggressively advertising as if you can pick up one at any Gloworld shop?

Well firedancer, this guy is not for you to be honest. If you have been at Ife for at least 2-3 years and he has never made a pass at you, he probably won't do so no matter the tricks you use. I hope you are not acting in desperation as always happens when young people are in final year and everyone around is getting engaged to each other and you feel like you have missed out on the guys around you and will never find a prince charming to sweep you off your feet once you leave the four walls of Ife.
If you feel that way then please let me assure you that you will get hundreds of thousands of passes made at you even after graduation.
Pray for God's guidance and be patient, your own heaven sent will not pass you by. Just work on yourself to be modest, decently dressed, amiable, hardworking, etc andwill see your prayers coming through

I use ordinary zoomblast for 6 systems and I think more can still be added. I know of a cafe of about 10 pcs using starcooms 1X and multilinks. The amount you are paying is much. Swift can give you a package of about 75G  on 512  for even more pcs. You need to shop around

I agree with Kech. The guy has a problem which needs a solution. It happens to a lot of people all the time even if everyone here is acting as if it could never happen to them. Even if your girl is ugly but has other desirable attributes such as shape, curves, hotlegs and other things like intelligence, character, etc guys could still be making passes.
I hope she understands your fears and you could trust each other to stay true to yourselves even in secret.
I wish you the very best in handling this

Hi all, who says this commentator is insignificant? Do you know how many people read his commentaries daily all over the world? Of course I understand the trend of his discuss and his intentions but I would be happier yet if the reference to Nigeria was excluded. Do we wait for worse comments to be made before we start challenging this kind of stereotyping. It does affect us in many ways we may not realise, the inhuman conditions we as Nigerians are subjected to at entry points to other countries (even other Africans get better treatment many times), the increase in security personnel marshalled to scrutinize passengers on board aircrafts coming from our country, the denial of travel visas to genuine applicants who wish to travel for education even after paying the necessary school fees etc.
I wish our compatriots engaged in illegal activities would have a rethink and redirect their energies to more illustrious pursuits which will bring honour and glory to us all.

Sports / Re: Remarks About Nigeria Made On Eurosports Made By Jim White by webgenius(m): 7:08pm On Nov 22, 2009
Ow11 and others, I am definitely opposed to fraud in any form but we have to ask some pertinent questions here. Who says it is only Nigeria that these mails emanate from. Other people all over the world, including Britain and USA are into scams of all kinds such as selling you software that does nothing of the claim the authors say they do etc. Besides every African out there claims to be a Nigerian when they are caught involved in one crime or the other.
Crime has no permanent habitat in any country of the world, evil minds abound everywhere.
I also hope the small number of Nigerians doing this will desist and find other legal and honourable enterprise to engage in.

Hi all what do we do with the likes of this commentator and his disparaging remarks about our country?

A replay is the only way
Fri Nov 20 09:53AM

Now it has become political. Ireland's Prime Minister Brian Cowen has asked President Nicolas Sarkozy to step in to insist the World Cup qualifier between their two nations be replayed.

Mr Cowen has talked of the moral imperative, of the need to demonstrate the primacy of the rule book, of showing young people around the world that cheats do not prosper. And, though such a decision really should be nothing to do with him, Sarkozy probably agrees. Replaying the match would benefit everyone. Most French people of my acquaintance, already depressed by the decline in their national team, feel sullied and compromised by the manner of their qualification. They would welcome the chance to do it properly. Not just to win without recourse to a bit of ball-juggling, but to win in style, in the French way, the proper way.

How too would the referee benefit from the game being replayed. Poor Martin Hansson actually had a very good match on Wednesday, getting every decision right. Except the crucial one. He must have gone back to his hotel room after the game, run through the video of the decisive moment and immediately felt like someone who has just handed over their bank account details to an emailer from Nigeria who has been in touch promising to deposit therein several million quid. He was conned. And now his reputation is a joke. To erase this game from the record books is the only way he can be returned to the top table of officials.

Indeed, even Thierry Henry himself would be better off with a replay. Sure, his actions have projected his country to the finals, an outcome that seemed highly unlikely as they laboured against Ireland's spirited opposition. But the pay-off is, his carefully cultivated, hugely lucrative reputation is now terminally sullied. This wasn't Nicolas Anelka handling the ball, then admitting he knew what he was doing but didn't really care because as the ref didn't see it effectively it didn't happen. This was Thierry Henry, the clean cut promoter of clean cut razor blades. Hearing him deliver such a cynical view of his misdemeanour was a bit like hearing Sir Bobby Charlton outing himself as Belle de Jour.

Business / Re: Nigeria To Generate Electricity From Nuclear Technology by webgenius(m): 9:20pm On Nov 13, 2009
My contribution will be based on pragmatism. The countries upstream the Niger river will not always be passive and watch as we dam the river for our own use. If one day, they decide to dam the river, our Kainji is doomed. Power from thermal energy is useful also if our bros in the Niger delta will let the pipelines be.Other sources eg wind and solar are worthy of consideration.
The USA is the largest user of Nuclear energy for electricity(25% of total) and this outweighs France which has 75% of its energy being derived from nuclear. If we can reach a working agreement with the countries of the Sahara, the plant can be located there and electricity generated shared with them. Nuclear energy affords us the opportunity to produce large amounts of electricity ultimately being cheaper than many other sources
I also heard of a plan to build a large hydro plant based on the Congo river to supply Nigeria, Cameroon and DR Congo. I don't know what has happened to this plan.
Billions of dollars spent on the IPPs with little to show for it because of militants. This could have set us well on the way to having Nuclear electricity

Is it not a shame that the so called prof is involved in this kind of activity? The may advertise themselves as a confraternity seeking their members welfare, but the truth is that it does not stop there.Groups of this kind inflict harm on non-members, rival groups, intimidate and harass female students, inflict grievious bodily harm on people etc and continue to claim they are a kindergarten assembly. Many staff and highly placed in the society belong to these groups and that is why they are difficult to eradicate.
May God help our institutions and society at large. cry cry cry cry cry cry cry
