Hi all who may be interested, Starcomms has a promo running now: exchange your old(doesn't have to be functional) modem (PCMI and USB) for a new one and pay half the price of a new modem which comes to you paying N4250, available at major Starcomms offices. Go with modem, proof of ID, utility bill, one passport picture. The new modem is ZTE,who has any expereince with this modem? How does it compare to the AnyData, Epivalley etc?.
Politics / Re: Yerima’s Bride Is Daughter Of His Egyptian Driver ! by webgenius(m): 9:10pm On May 05, 2010
Forgive me for asking, if Egypt which has a larger proportion of muslims in their country can forbid such a marriage, why would a secular, multi-religious country like Nigeria tolerate such a thing as this. How did YERIMA come about the choice of his bride, did he see pictures of the girl with her father and become overwhelmed beyond control?
Why does he engage in this pastime? We are told it is not the first time, and I can bet that he will still do it again, perharps before he is sixty.
Does Zamfara not have more than its fair share of mature beauties and divas that resort has to be made to toddlers from foreign climes? Perhaps the veil or purdah is preventing access to these natural beauties and daughters of Eve.
Anyhow, please someone help
Business / Re: Fashola Shops For N73.3b For Airport by webgenius(m): 10:01pm On May 04, 2010
This discourse has been interesting to follow despite the few attempts to derail it. I would suggest the govt slows down on implementing the airport project, even if the masterplan is there. Let them go ahead and implement the rail option, using MMA as a cargo hub and with a rail track connecting MMA to the LFTZ. This same track can also serve commuters if well managed and LASG can liase with the Feds to take care of many worries raised about MMA.
When the LFTZ becomes operational and there is an established need to build the airport, let the work begin and be done expeditiously.
It would amount to a monumental tragedy if the airport project goes ahead and we find out later that it was never necessary, cannot be completed ,or is grossly underutilised as those in South Korea which are economic disasters on their own right.
I also think that LASG is stretching itself too thin on many fronts. Let's complete the light rail, the Badagry expressway, the many jetties being built, the expansion of the BRT Scheme etc and record resounding successes in all these, then we can proceed on other projects which would benefit the people. BRF has a short time left and since he has never repeated a class, I will like to see him complete the above-mentioned projects before he undertakes new ones. I am still waiting for the commissioning of the Okota-Itire link bridge so I can begin to use it( I think this was supposed to be ready in August 2009).

Please BRF, complete these projects and have your name written in gold forever in the hearts of ALL Lagosians. Let the private investors join you in your schemes, or let them wait until their desired projects are desirable or there is incontrovertible need for them.
Computers / Re: Who Wants To Swap Internet Device (starcomms For Visafone)? by webgenius(m): 9:50pm On May 04, 2010
Hi Guddsid, just read your post. I have the AnyData E-100(BLUE) modem which I acquired over 3 years ago. I now use the Novatel U-727 which I got free from Zoom and which, in all honesty is better. I paid about N35,000 at that time to purchase the modem and I am sure I would not get anything near that if I wanted to sell. However, I am keeping it as a back-up to the Zoom, should it become useful in the future. I have other devices I could consider selling such as LSP-3000 Multilinks, Hauwei 2550 Starcomm table phone, and an MTN Sharkpod.
So let me know if any of these interests you.

His website does him a lot of injustice, not after years of artistic displays with his magazine. How can he put up such a site, please someone beg him to pull it down or the only vote that will count for him maybe his own.
What has Dele Momodu's interest got to do with the South East, after all the race is not to the swiftest or the earliest
Computers / Re: Slow Browsing: End For Starcomms? by webgenius(m): 8:11pm On Apr 25, 2010
Webfx,You need to have a large heart. 1X and EVDO are incomparable. EVDO is miles faster and better, though more expensive. If you have to download large files, then you will appreciate the difference. You may want to check if other networks with broadband have coverage in your area eg Zoom (ZOOMBLAST), which IMO is the best at the moment.
I think 1X should be banned in Nigeria, absolute waste of good money. Broadband for ever!!!!!!!!!!!
Computers / Re: Slow Browsing: End For Starcomms? by webgenius(m): 10:40am On Apr 25, 2010

Not fixed. Proof or evidence required to back your claims. I've not heard of such utopian velocities as you posted being available on a commercial scale. Please respond with verifiable proof/links. Thanks, and we will get there in Nigeria- may take a while but we will get there.

What do you think this new year will offer to we loyal data subscribers, will the networks become faster, cheaper limitless bandwidth, more competitive etc. We are yet to feel the impact of GLO-1, and MainOne is set to launch in June this year with speeds of terabytes per second. Also USB 3 is creeping into the market with new devices being rolled out later this year and the next.
The first world is now talking about super broadband with plans for 40-50 MBps in a few yaers. Will it get better here in Nigeria?
Computers / Re: Starcomms Izap - Is It Really Fast As Starcomms Claim? by webgenius(m): 8:47pm On Apr 09, 2010
You can get full details from Starcomms.I was at the H/Q once when an aggrieved customer complained about the disconnection of his line. Among other crimes he was told he was sending mails to irregular email sites including his company's and using torrents. He was reported to Starcomms by a complaint from the overseas sites and his line was disconnected by Starcomms. He made several visits before the one on which I saw him, and I was there when he was told to buy another modem, which he did.
Besides this I have no further experience save to say that there are terms and conditions attached to the usage of these services. So the safest thing is to stay within these and you can live happily forever thereafter.
Computers / Re: Starcomms Izap - Is It Really Fast As Starcomms Claim? by webgenius(m): 8:19pm On Apr 08, 2010
Preshizeee don't risk having your modem line disconnected. You will have to buy another modem and be punished before activation. Keep to the terms and conditions, Starcomms will get you believe me

Hi, any one heard or tried blast broadband by Linkserve. A new service from Linkserve estimated to cost about N50,000/month with features like Internet TV etc. I just hope they will have a package for those homeusers willing to pay N10-15,000 per month, b/c I will not pay N50000 to nobody to use the internet

Career / Re: The Old Boys Network: Does It Exist In Nigeria? by webgenius(m): 8:10pm On Apr 01, 2010
Finbarr's is not a school for scallywags as you mentioned Ajanlekoko. It has been returned to the Catholic church like some other missionary schools. The head of the OBN used to be an Ajanlekoko too( I think Segun). The school has produced many great Nigerians: in sports Stephen Keshi, Samson Siasia, Chris Anigala, Paul Okoku, Henry Nwosu, and many others. Ofcourse the founder Rev Dennis Slattery was an active an founding member of the Nigeria Football association and the Nigerian Referees Association. The gounds on which the University of Lagos stands was part of the land acquired by Rev Slattery when he arrived the bushes of Akoka many years ago.
The school was established to provide a mixture of Grammarian and technical education for its students, a reason why its graduates were very good at technical subjects like woodwork, metalwork, Tecnical Drawing etc, and the sciences like Physics, Chemistry, Biology as all these subjects were taught to students from class one unlike other schools which started them in class 3.
Finbarr's also has many distinguished professionals in other spheres of life which are too numerous to mention.
Career / Re: The Old Boys Network: Does It Exist In Nigeria? by webgenius(m): 7:56pm On Mar 31, 2010
Old boys' network also exists in Nigeria. Many MNCs and companies in Lagos employ a lot of people from certain Universities. There is nothing bad in networking and assisting each other, but I must tell you that certain people take it too far and way out of proportion. If you did not graduate from their secondary school or Uni, you are treated as an outsider and an enemy. People from their secondary school or Uni are surreptitiously given positions of advantage or prominence so that they can take over management positions later. Even the eggheads back in the unis collaborate closely with the top management from their alumni, they supply them with oestrogens and errand boys or loyal while in return the names they forward get good positions in industry.
Many cults on campuses also operate on similar principles, collaborating with the powers in society to inflict hurt and harm on non-members, competitors or those who are perceived to be threats to their existence.
The truth is that many old boys' association exist not to improve society but to feather inordinate ambitions of godfathers and the likes. Consider that many schools( secondary and Unis) are in states of dilapidation while the old boys' watch and indulge in mundane activities, some of which cannot be mentioned here. Many of them have forgotten that the institutions were founded on religious principles which are diametrically opposite to what they practice now.
May God help our country

Hi, I have found that they are usually in too much of a hurry to sell their modem for the high fee attached to them than to assist one in what should be possible. How does Visa compare to Zoom which I am using at the moment?
Computers / Re: Who Wants To Swap Internet Device (starcomms For Visafone)? by webgenius(m): 3:56pm On Mar 28, 2010
That's cool. The modem you have, is it Novatel U 727? I already have this with ZOOM. A staff of Visafone was trying to offer me one for N27G, I told him I have the modem already and wanted to know if there was a way I could use the service with my modem,it appeared that was not going to be possible.
How good is the service, Zoom is working great for me, I also have Starcomms EVDO which is not in use now

Business / Re: US To Assist Nigeria On Nuclear Power by webgenius(m): 2:54pm On Mar 24, 2010
I wonder if the plant can be sited in the sahara with collaboration from Niger Republic and the power transmitted down to Nigeria. We are currently supplying them from energy derived from our hydroplant at Kainji so that they do not dam the River Niger, so we can also reach an amicable arrangement on this nuclear thing.
Once it is economically viable,it is worth considering at least as an alternative to hydro or gas powered systems given the volatility of the Niger delta and seasonal variations in the water level of the River Niger or the plethora of snakes which often block our turbines as we are often told.
We also have to work on distribution and transmission capabilities
