Yvete: ^^@Square: Yea, I had to put it out there for those with career indecision so they don't think that the easiest way to get sponsored is to become an IT guy overnight and they get served on a platter. Please tell them! The category of people sponsored in IT are highly competent and/or experienced programmers/developers/analysts with great potential ... now you don't get that overnight, do you? Yvete: I think the STEM bill would make it. Seems like the major proponents of this bill are Republicans (Kinda surprising)It appears the Republicans are not totally against immigration after-all. They just want highly skilled migrants (for obvious economic benefits) which is why they are strongly in favor of the new I2 act ... |
Andre Ogara: This is good news....Greetings nairalanders... It's been a busy spell for me this past weeks but it's good to be back where it all started. Please people, if you find a way to sponsor yourself over here to the United states, by all means please do that. There are literally thousands of available jobs for computer science students/Programmers, engineers too!!! So many vacancies left and right... You cannot fathom how desperate they are to get qualified people. This is an investment on your own part. Of course if you are here on this thread, I would assume that you are already making plans to come over. Don't listen to people that say there is money in Naija...that is true, but you know what is really really true? This place is a Diamond Mine. Wish you all good luck in your endeavors.Seems like recruiters have started bombarding someone here Are you in IT? |
Abeg, i hope dis comp/it will still be relevant in 4 years time o.... I just started o
Fear not! You couldn't have chosen a better field . Just know your stuff well and you'll be just fine. |
Square65: I always knew computer/IT jobs were the hottest but didn't know the margin was this much! Webstradamus & co, remember me in your kingdom o. Anyway its not too late to change career"My kingdom" is only but a county in yours. Na you be boss O! #PetroDollar$ Square65: For anyone interested, Square65: The good thing about this whole immigration law overhaul is that it will favor visa applicants as denial based on section 214b will cease to exist.See close marking for I-Squared Act ... good to know I'm not alone in this . And yes there will be fewer denials for legitimate STEM applicants if this bill is passed. #FingersCrossed |
Ndyoo: @ bigfrancis, what do you access the epub files with or how can you convert it to .pdf.....Adobe Digital Editions -> http://www.adobe.com/products/digital-editions.html |
imperiouxx: Piece the bold words together without space, those are the links for part1 and part2 for the material. Ooops, takes sometime before arriving at this. Defiling law of spam-bot.That was creative mehn ... you sure say na BCH u still dey do abi u don dey minor in cryptography? ![]() |
buzritchy: Plz house.Really? ; |
Congrats bukahands and Find Out! You guys did great in your exam! And if any of you is considering an MS/PhD in Chemistry ... University of Wyoming got mad cheddar for you! |
^^^^ Did you really pay the fees? It's sometimes possible for an online transaction to be flagged as successful but the money never remitted to the school. Did you check with your bank thereafter to confirm if the money was actually debited? I'd strongly advise you settle with the school before applying for any US visa to avoid any silly complications. |
Comprehensive immigration reform on the way .... join the STEM train while you can http://thenextweb.com/us/2013/01/25/the-senate-will-move-next-week-on-comprehensive-high-skill-immigration-reform/ |
alutaa: If you are interested in SAP (Business Intelligence and Business warehousing), let me know. I might be able to use my 2 years experince to guild you in the right way.How can I reach you sir on this subject? I've been looking to break into the SAP sphere. |
OjaP: -16FBelieve me I'd give anything to get 30's right now. It's -4F right now (and decreasing steadily) and it already feels like -25F. Good thing I don't have to go out today. imperiouxx: Please, is there holiday tomorrow? I don't want to go to class but to watch Nigeria match the exact time of my first class.Yes there is ... Martin Luther King, Jr. Day! |
Thank God for MLK tomorrow ... wondering what it would have been like going to class under -16F (with -32F wind chills). Times like this make me hate MN but it's all good sha ... we will survive! |
Mamacita007: thnks.i ll talk to my employer on monday. they said i can start work for now as long as my ssn is in progress. its a library job sha with $8.95 per hr and i cant work more than 20 hrs a week. na rent and food money be dat. lloooollI knew they were going to understand your situation on the ID thingy BTW, congrats on your job! You're really very fortunate to have gotten a job in your first few days on campus! Library is a fun place to work, though can be a lil' stressful depending on the dept (circulation, reference, archives, technical, ILL etc) but I'm pretty sure you'll do just fine. And since you're a grad student, you even stand the chance of landing a GA position there next semester if you do a good job this semester. As per your driver's license, next step after studying the manual is to practice on this website below. Take the test severally until you begin to get 30/30 even with your eyes closed! You may then go for the test and come back to thank me later ![]() http://www.driversprep.com/test.php?state=az |
Square65: You cannot be more ignorant on this subject.I was looking out for your comment ![]() |
Mamacita007: The school are ready to file for my ssn for d job, but I need to present 2 forms of id. i came here december 21st so its over 10 days now.ill go back to ISO for help.thnksYour arrival date is not as important as the date you checked in with your International Office. You should wait at least two-three federal business days after your international office activates your record in SEVIS before you apply for a driver’s license or SSN. This gives all the databases time to update with your new information. If your job is bent on you getting a driver's license as your second ID, then that might be an issue for you considering that you didn't come with a Nigerian License. You can't usually apply for a driver's license immediately if you do not have one from your home country. You will need to pass a knowledge test, visual test and use a driving permit for at least 3 months (not sure what Arizona laws say). Thereafter you will then be eligible for a road test and then issued a license if you pass. On a brighter note, you may apply for a State ID as soon as your SEVIS info reflects on DMV systems. But all of these would take a few weeks processing in the least. Will your job wait for you that long? If I were you I would start negotiating a workaround with my employer 'cos I no go like lose that job O ![]() |
Mamacita007: pls house, has anybody experienced difficulty in trying to get a drivers license and state id card? i went to the MVD office and they said dat my sevis is not showing any information on deir system.i went back to my international students office and they showed me that im active with sevis. i went back again today and the woman is saying the same thing. ive taken dis matter to God becos i wonder whats going on. Even for the job on campus, they said dat i shud bring 2 forms of id. my passport, i-20 and drivers license or state id card. wat can i do abt dis?I wouldn't get scared if I were you, because sometimes it takes up to 10 days for SEVIS updates to reflect across other government systems including the DMV. When did you check-in at the international office? As per the on-campus job, tell them you're new and do not have a Drivers License or State ID yet. They should be able to work out something for you except the job requires driving. Have you applied for SSN already? |
ferdimako: I think the school itself is a crap. Are you for real You call an R1 institution like WVU crap? Go do some research before you mislead someone here. By the way, which school u dey sef?dkgetmuny: Hi peeps...I was granted admission to West Virginia University for a Masters in Safety Managent...that particular course did not require GRE but I did IELTs...I have a valid US tourist visa that expires nxt year 2014..what are my chances of getting the F-1 visa..cos pple saying all kinda crap that the consular will frown at me not taking the GRE test..thanksIf your program does not require it, then I think you are good to go. You might also wanna get an official letter from the program coordinator saying it's not required. |
Yvete: Just a random thought! Many Indians come to America in search of greener pastures, not necessarily to study. The ones in my class are always content with B's and C's, they're just getting by and can't wait to graduate (with any kind of GPA) so they can start working (hustling) proper. |
imperiouxx: Webstradamus, you guys always think since you're in the north and I'm in south, then your place is colder than here but na big lie. Abeg dey use google weather, we are now sharing almost the same temp.... your winter might be longer than mine but this place is inside depression..... freakingly cold men.Hahaha ... not almost the same. But truth is we're having very good weather right now (even though its still way lower than yours which you're complaining about). |
kpolli: I wrote you ppl off as not being humans... You probably a program typing... I thought so too when I first got here .... |
imperiouxx:Then you had better start getting used to it. It's 6 months of winter over here! |
See all these Southerners whining about cold ... now what do you want those of us up North to do? ![]() |
Square65: Yea I was actually looking for this one, it also seems the best to me but the truth remains that except any of these is bipartisan, they may never see the light of the day.True that! And that's one of the best things about the Startup Act 2.0, it is bipartisan! |
Square65: Just pondering on which one would be more beneficial IF approvedBRAINS Act maybe ... the STEM Jobs Act is too elitist. First it segregates institutions, secondly it says PhD first and then MS grads will hustle for the remaining visas. Me I no wan do Ph.D so that one no favor me . Finally, the STEM Jobs act is DoA at the Democrat-controlled Senate cos of its Section 3 (Eliminates the diversity immigrant program). It sure won't see the light of day; at least not anytime soon. The only bill I am latently rooting for is the Startup Act 2.0 http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d112:SN03217:@@@L&summ2=m& Unfortunately, no major action has been taken since its introduction last May. |
spikes C: Are they good, as to the course am studying (Elect. Elect. Engineering). Environment, and you know, all those stuffs people advise people againstWhat are you going for? BS or MS? What's your academic profile? And then your financial capability? These can help one "prescribe" a good match for you. Cos for all you know, some of these programs might be outta ur league. |
olarwarlay: @webstradamus - pls do u have a clue as to what a secondary school transcript would look like?. Pls i need a sample of it so i can understand and maybe explain to my school what it would look like for my admission process... ThanksNope ... but why do you need a high school transcript? Your WAEC/NECO/GCE should suffice, normally. |
smithjanetstore: HOUSE HELP ME OUT MY COUSIN GET OND FOR BIZ ADMIN FOR YABA POLY AND HE WANTS TO APPLY AS WELL NA WHICH TEST HE GO DO TO APPLYNa unto pidgin levels now? No shaking ... The test he go do to apply depend on wetin him wan apply for! The first step na to decide on wetin him wan study. Next na to find school. And then the school requirements na him go determine which test him go do. I guess my pidgin skills are still intact! |
spikes C: Texas A & M UniversityAnd what about these schools do you want us to comment on? Please be more specific. |
imperiouxx: ... and they are anti-uniport ([s]runs guys no let dem know which is the correct uniport transcript[/s]Wrong assumption |
Yes with my uncle backup if the fee is not more than $5000 per year
Dude, did you really mean $5000 per year? |
shoggie: Glory be to God in the highest place. I was denied an F1 Visa today.Sorry mate ... like I always say, you were only delayed. Now that you know the reason(s) for your denial, immediately contact your school and let them know what transpired during your interview. Make them understand you were denied because of the amount that was put in your I-20. All they needed to put there was the minimum amount required for 1-year and not the total amount in the account statement you submitted. That's where they screwed it for you! So request for a new I-20 with the necessary correction and tell them to send it via FEDEX so you can get it on time. Also do not advise people against a particular window, for all you know, Window 7 might have become Window 9 during their own interview . Let them just prepare diligently, tie up all loose ends and pray for God's favor. |

About cold, soon you go escape that place.
BTW, congrats on your job! You're really very fortunate to have gotten a job in your first few days on campus!
