Ricky Rozay: Hello guys,

Please How genuine is this website for flight - www.usairways.com

I intend purchasing my flight ticket from JFK NewYork to Minnesota. Their flight ticket is veryy cheap. Got flight from JFK NewYork to Minnesota in their website for $205.

I have been reading lots of reviews about em on the internet and peeps have been complaining about their poor service, delay of flight e.t.c

Pls whoever has used them before should pls shed more light on this. OR if anyone here can recommend any other better airline I could take from JFK NewYork to Minnesota and cheaper one like this, please drop your views, I strongly appreciate. Thanks.

US Air is genuine. Delays happen with every airline especially during winter when you will be arriving. But hey, whats the hurry? I found Sun Country for $140 on Kayak so you might want to check that out. One thing you must understand though is that you have to pay for checked-in luggage outside of the airfare (and this is the norm for domestic flights).

Regarding the other issue, I spoke to the guy and I should get some feedback soon. Will reply your email then.

It's 420 now

Plus the US bank's ATM fees which could range from $3 to $5 per transaction. Also note that some bank ATM's have very low ATM withdrawal limits (sometimes as low as $300) per transaction and all those charges would eventually add up.

@waledudu ... I posted this a while back.

webstradamus:

Just in case anyone is still looking for a cost-effective (or should I say cost-free grin) way of transferring money from their GTB account to their US bank account, simply go to any Walmart and purchase a money order in your name using your GTB Naira Mastercard. You can then pay in the money order to your US bank account. You do not incur any charges from GTB (since it is a POS transaction) and the money order only costs $0.70 (70 cents). If you ask me I'd say this is the cheapest and fastest way to transfer funds to the US from Naija. However, maximum you can go on a single money order is $1000 so if you wanted to transfer say $5000, you would have to purchase 5 money orders (total cost will be $3.50). Imagine how much savings you would be making when compared to doing a wire transfer! Plus you get your money instantly!!

No, you can't combine the two because the PhD is more or less employment with the department, just like the MS GA but more professional than MS GA.

I'm a Biochemist going for Pharmacology (it's Biochemistry concentrating on drug molecular mechanisms and design). Pharmacology is the study of molecular mechanisms of drug in biological system while pharmacy is the study of prescription of drugs just like those drug retail sellers in one kind of shop locally called chemist in Nigeria.

A Pharmacologist would have worked wonders with drug and synthesized new drug before handing it over to a Pharmacist to play with and acts like captain America in the presence of his patients.

Choi!!! See as you rubbish pharmacists finish shocked. This your comment fit cause depression O grin

On another note, I'm really curious to know why Webster though. I hope you got a full ride sha cos with a GRE score of 320, you could have gotten into ... grin

jdxxx: Thanks a lot. Ur post was very helpful. I tried ur suggestion.I bought money order for $4k with my Gtb mastercard usin POS machine at Walmart. 70cents per $1k.then cashed d money order to my US bank account.I wasn't charged anythin extra.
This was way cheaper for me,becos Gtb charges $10 for ATM withdrawal using Gtb mastercard and also the local bank ATM machine charges additional $3 for services, making $13 for a maximum withdrawal of $600. Terrible.

Glad you found it helpful wink

olarwarlay: @Flynbird - For your international calls, use KeepCalling.com.... All you need to do is register, choose a local number to use, buy the desired minutes, activate the pinless dial option and call from your phone.

I have been using them since i got here too because they charge 0.049 per minutes to Nigeria which means 60 minutes(1hr) = $2.94... Their service is the cheapest i have seen when it comes to dialing from your cell phone, even cheaper than Amantel.

Skype international calls to Nigeria is cheap too($1.99 for 1hr), but it's either you dial from your laptop or you download the mobile app on your phone. I can't use it because my phone doesn't support the app and i hate sitting in from of the laptop everytime before i could call home.

Great suggestions Olarwarlay!

@Flynbird

You might also want to check out Localphone at http://www.localphone.com/prices/monthly_subscriptions

$7.80/month gets you 200 minutes to Nigeria. That's 3.9ยข/min. However, you cannot carry over unused minutes to the next month.

foohard: Hello House,

Please my school is in chicago.. where can I get good health insurance for a reasonable fee.. My school charged me 1870usd for fall term only. thats outrageous naa..

That's really outrageous. Are you sure its only for Fall? Cos I know they usually charge for a full session. Even at that, its still on the high side. But you need to confirm first if you are allowed to buy your own insurance as some schools do not allow international students do that. If they allow, then you're in luck! I think Imperiouxx would have some suggestions on good deals on insurance.

foohard: Hello House,

I am seriously disturbed. the sponsor agency got me ticket for 23rd but my place of work refused to release me. I was told to change the booking to next week so that the committee can meet and decide if I'd be granted a study leave for the program. You know how government handle things, they may still now hold the meeting next week as promised.

I am going to study in USA on scholarship, My wife is a nurse in the USA and very comfortable.. The fair of the unknown is making me have a second thought. The only option I have now is to resign and pay 1month salary in lieu if I want to use the friday ticket given to me by the agency.

Do you think its worth starting afresh in the USA. I work for Federal Government here and still hope to work for Federal Government later in future when I return to Nigeria.

I need your candid advice on this issue.. Thanks alot.

Dude, forget about that study leave. Maybe God is trying to tell you something by the delays. Do not miss your flight ... resign and pay them the 1 month salary. Don't tie yourself down over there. The future is very bright for you here, trust me wink I had similar fears in my time but now I know better. If you're in IT and you're good at what you do, there is no UNKNOWN. You will get a JOB! And your Nigerian experience will count especially if you've got professional certifications to go with it. Even if you have to start afresh with entry level positions, it will still be miles ahead of whatever you're earning right now (adjusted for cost of living/inflation) and the quality of life is incomparable. Only challenge may be visa sponsorship but it appears that won't be a problem for you since your wife is a PR. Bro, don't modify the perfect script God has written for your life. Just go with the flow wink

syahboy: Yeah! Bro that's the thing, don't really want to wait and the NYSC thing I see it as a waste of time. I'm just aiming at top 40 programs for Ms, then for Phd I'll concentrate on top 20 programs. Considering I want to get a phd wasting a year on NYSC is a big deal for me, I wish there was a way I could make Fall 2014. Thanks bro I hope you enjoy your flight to the USA grin

With the kind of GRE score you have, you should be aiming for top 10 programs ... don't limit yourself! I believe you're probably enroute a first class already (undergraduate), just try to hit a 5.0 in your final 2 semesters in school. Start doing research with your professors and try to have them include you as a co-author in one or two publications. Finally, apply directly to a PhD program since that is your ultimate goal.

On another note, could you send me the extra GRE materials you used so I could make them available to everyone?

Yes I got a flight but Won't be going for the Fall anymore.. I intend going for spring 2014.. So will defer my admission to Spring to allow me enough time to Plan ahead..

There are so many things for me to settle before leaving for the US, so I'm trying to be mindful so I won't fall out of status when I get to the US..

But will be jetting out by First week of December bro, So by then I will take advantage of the very low cost of Flight ticket when I book down in advance.....

I feel that has changed now going by the requirement that states you must not have been denied a visa in the last 6 months. Or was the same law in effect during your time? Maybe it was not that's why yours went through. I stand to be corrected though.

AFAIK, that law has always been there. I guess they state it clearly just to discourage people who have previously attended an interview so as to give everyone a fair chance. If you need emergency appointment after a denial, I'd say go for it. You have nothing to lose really wink
