henrywest: I got into Memorial CS for Fall 2011 but I'm deferring to JAN cos am yet to get my original offer letter up till now (imagine that!). Might have to do with the Canada Post strike. Good to know u got into UofS, I also applied there but couldn't get a supervisor and eventually did not get in. I'd like to ask u a few questions off-forum. |
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada by webstradamus: 8:26am On Jun 06, 2011 |
eky102: I think you've got good financial cover especially with the landed property. How did u proceed with the deferment? I recently got a soft copy of my offer letter and Noseworthy says the original will arive in 3-6weeks. |

Oh , so u got the same mail yesterday. Did u also apply for research MSc? Regarding the fees, its clearly stated on their website. It's actually $953 per semester amounting to $5,718 for the entire 6 semesters. You can read more here: http://www.mun.ca/become/graduate/fees_funding/Graduate_Tuition.php Are u on gtalk or yahoo or skype? Can we chat? |

gel03: Thanks dear, good to know you will be turning in your app by month end. Wish I could say the same. But then I don't even have the foggiest idea when I'll receive my offer letter. To make matters worse, I will be out of the country for the next 3 weeks on official matters. I can already see deferment staring at me in the eyes. |

Were u also accepted to Computer Science? Masters or Undergraduate? |

Oya, the two of u should kiss and makeup now No more fighting, pls let's join hands to make our canadian grad school dreams a reality. @ everyone, will the CDHC accept a colour print out from a scanned copy of an admission letter? |
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada by webstradamus: 10:44am On May 18, 2011 |
@ cuddlemii Pls take it easy on eky102. I know u feel insulted and rightly so too. But I really don't think he meant it that way (I might be wrong though). @eky102, pls try and rephrase that statement for peace sake. I know u didn't mean it that way so prove me right. |

eky102: I only got an email notifying me that my file has been recommended for admission. I will have to follow up on SGS for the rest. My status is still "application complete". Did Noseworthy confirm that your letter has been dispatched? Did your supervisor offer you funding? |
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada by webstradamus: 9:21am On May 18, 2011 |
Cuddlemii: Thanks dear. I'd give your advice a try. But with all this kain shakara abi na dullness Memorial dey form, I hope dey agree to it sha. U won't believe they received my complete application package since early Nov 2010 and it took them 6 whole months to make a decision , mehn those guys are so slow!!! Well, I thank God the decision went in my favour eventually. gel03: eh ya , sorry about the reject. Thank God you had a Plan B. I did a 2.1 oh (quite close to a 1st actually). I guess my inability to secure a supervisor cost me the opportunity of being accepted into the thesis route and hence, no funding. But its all good sha. Let's see how it goes. |

@gel03 and other Memorial hopefuls I just got admitted to Memorial a few mins ago. I applied for MS Computer Science and was recommended for the Course/Project Route with Work Term instead of the Thesis Route which I originally applied for (maybe they think I ain't got enough research potential or I've got too much work/professional experience, na dem sabi). Bad news is I ain't getting any funding but then there's a compulsory one-semester paid internship which i find attractive for canadian experience. Good news is that tuition is below 6k for the entire 20-month program!!! I know it could take a few more weeks for Offer Letter to reach me in Nigeria, possibly early or mid-June. Do you guys think it will still be feasible to apply for a study permit by then? |

Hi guys, I am trying to register online for the GRE General Test but can only find two test sites in Nigeria (First Logic Lagos and Abuja). I need to write the test in Port Harcourt. Please how do I schedule for Port Harcourt? |
Travel / Re: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by webstradamus: 7:13am On May 14, 2011 |
imperiouxx: You may check with WES to request that they send the verification request to your school via email considering our inefficient postal service else you might have to wait all year. I did a preview evaluation on their website and had a 4.35/5 Nigerian GPA evaluated to 3.63/4. Unfortunately, I can't go ahead with an offficial evaluation because they say don't evaluate transcripts from my school (I wonder why). My only hope now is ECE but I've read a lot of bad reviews (non-nigeria though) about them and wouldn't want my grades evaluated poorly. That's why I am looking for anyone's experience with ECE. I need to have an idea of how they evaluate our degrees so I know whether to go ahead with them or not. |

Sorry guys if I am digressing from the original topic but I was wondering if anyone here has used or have an idea about how Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) evaluate Nigerian degrees. I'm looking to do a credential evaluation with them but I hear their evaluation reduces one's GPA unfairly. Anyone with ECE evaluation experience? |

gel03: Have you contacted the program chair/correspondent directly? If not, call or email them. They would have better info for you about the status of your application. Don't just relax and listen to what SGS says. And as per the 2.2 thingy, don't let it discourage you. If your last 2 years grade is up to 65%, then you stand a chance. Call the program now to know your status, it will help ease your anxiety. |

ashley86: dapsycool: ashley86: CS at U of S is highly competitive. You will need to have a somewhat stellar profile to get in. They hardly admit applicants without a First Class degree. Another thing is the GRE. They say its not compulsory but I'd advise you to take it cos it will give them an idea of your ability in comparison with other applicants. Finally, make sure you get a "willing" supervisor before you apply, it will help a lot. Else you will just be "binning" your application fee among other things. And in case you're wondering, I am talking from experience. What's your profile? I was going to recommend a few CS programs in Canada that I found during my application season, but then cuddlemii already did a good job with that. Generally, your choice of schools should boil down to your profile. Good thing you're still in school, you still have the chance to hit all 'em high A's, I really hope you come out with a First as it will make a whole lot of difference, believe me. |

gel03: I say a big amen to that also. gel03: That's great , It means you've got one leg in already! We dey come for back However, postgraduate diploma is not a bad deal, a close friend went that route last year and she's almost through with the program. Plus she's also applying to an MSc program and she stands a better chance than most of us applying from here. |

@sunky644, I have been trying to get a supervisor without success as all my POIs seem too busy to respond to my email. I really don't know what else to do now than to pray for favour. I called the grad correspondent for my program and she said my file is still under review by the admissions committee. I guess I just have to keep hoping and praying. @gel03, I applied for MSc Computer Science. |

@ obietrix, thanks for the info. However, have you checked your status online to see if it reflects the decision already? Mine still says "Application Complete" and I am wondering if I should call them like you did. |

@wip4, I stumbled on this thread recently and I just can't help but commend u for ur openness/willingness to help people. Keep it up man! That said, I have a few questions to ask you: 1. Did ur girlfriend sit for GRE before being accepted to MUN? 2. Did she get any funding upon being accepted? 3. Do u think a nigerian graduate wit a BSc. CGPA well above 4.0 stands a chance of receiving good funding even without GRE? Thanks in anticipation of a prompt response. |

Having followed this thread 'religiously' for the past few months, I must confess I have gained so much from the wealth of information herein. Thanks to you guys, I took the bold step, started my SAP journey last month and I have now obtained the TERP10 certification which has increased my understanding of the different modules and how they are used for integration of business processes. Due to my IT background, I'm moving on to SAP System Administration (BASIS) and I have been fortunate (thanks to this thread) to get most of the official training materials required for my next certification: SAP Certified Technology Associate - System Administration (Oracle DB) with SAP NetWeaver 7.0 Just wanted to say a very big thank you to everyone who has contributed to this thread in one way or the other. And to all fellow BASIS 'aspirants' interested in the training materials I've got, drop your email so i can send you a download link. |
