Necessary precaution but not sufficient. Just know you're not completely anonymous anywhere on the internet (same applies to others on here including me). It will amaze you to know that anybody with some basic low-tech recon skills can find out who you truly are ... and easily too grin

Well said kpolli!

@iykrion, big question is are you among the fortunate few? If YES, then I can understand your position on the issue. If NO, then you'll soon begin to see reason with "imperiouxx & co". Different strokes for different folks!

My F1 visa was granted on Friday 04 2013, my intention is to go for studies and return home afterwards. I wonder why so many people want to stay put in d US after studies. Pray, how will Naija grow with this unprecedented brain drain?

Congrats on your visa! In the coming weeks, you will begin to understand why many people want to remain here after studies grin. Welcome to America!!!

Just checked the schools out, quite very very affordable but don't have many courses. . . . Very good option instead of community college

My point exactly! For those interested, also add Minot State University in North Dakota to the list.

Dont get it wrong bro,4k is per semester which is just 12 credits units,so the more you add to your credit, the more your money pilled up, I school in SD so i know whats going on down here but to be honest with you guys life is easy here and accommodation is cheap too. Over here you will surely see fresh food and fruits.BUT BUT BUT BUT COLD COLD COLD COLD COLD COLD SNOW SNOW SNOW SNOW FULL here..lol..

The schools I mentioned have the same amount as tuition from 12 - 18 credits. As regards the cold, they will adapt. If you did, so would they!
Travel / Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part3 by webstradamus: 1:06am On Jan 05, 2013
An interesting trend I have observed lately is people "suddenly" realizing they couldn't afford their tuition & fees immediately after obtaining their visas. I really wonder if they intentional avoid to lookup the fees at the time of application or maybe the fees weren't published at the time. I think people should cut their coat according to their cloth. There's no need applying to a school you cannot afford except you are hoping to get some scholarship/assistantship (assuming you are extremely qualified). Even at that, always have a Plan B because funding is not usually guaranteed. Proper planning prior to leaving Nigeria is key to your survival here in the US.

There are a number of good and affordable Universities in the US. Do your research! In my time, I realized it was even possible to get automatic in-state tuition even as an international student! For example, if you can withstand the cold in Minnesota, I can confidently tell you it's one of the most affordable states to study in the US. Minnesota State University Moorhead, Minnesota State University Mankato and St. Cloud University all offer in-state tuition for international students. This means you could be paying less than $4000 for a 12-18 credit semester!

Please do your research carefully so you don't end up being frustrated in the US. Like I said earlier, proper planning is key to your survival here.

Anthonymighty: Hello guys.....I don baff, rest and chop better food from mummy, come sleep small wake up because I have been on 7 days fasting and constant prayer since 20th till today. And it wasn't in vain. Now I can tell you how everything went. But first of all I want to say a big thank you to Dr. imperiouxx. You have been a wonderful friend to everyone here. Yvete, mamacita, kpolli, mr Chris, and everyone who has supported everyone in prayers and everything generally. Here is how my interview went

I got there by 5:30 i drove from ikorodu to V.I the road was free because I left the house at about 5:00 am. My time was for 8am so I sat down (100 naira for seat) zooooooom! After biometrics I sat down for my turn. Counter A 118 flashed and that was my number and I went to the VO that I have been praying to God to take me too since I entered there because I accessed the 3 VOs....counter 1 was friendly and issuing visa if you can defend yourself, the 2nd VO was asking too many questions and if you answer all well, you get the visa if not he will refuse u. The 3rd one was just denying people. So I went to the counter 1 when I was called.

Me....good morning sir
VO.....good morning...passport and application please
Me...I passed them to him (while passing it) I said compliments of the season to him....I think he didn't answer or maybe he did but I no hear because I dey para.. grin
Vo...he scrolls thru my passport and starts typing. So where in the united states are you going too
Me... Boston Massachusetts
VO...which school and course
Me...Neu and bachelors in information technology
VO...when did you finish secondary school
Me....I finished in 2003 and I went for a diploma in computer engineering, maintenance and repair....I just try explain all the gaps sha
VO...what's your highest degree...
Me....OND in computer science at Laspotech
VO....when did you graduate
Me....last year and I worked at quest engineering ventures for 1 year (wanted to show him the letter from quest ventures) but he said don't bother..
VO....what do you do there....
Me...I repair computers, assemble them for customers, maintenance and General IT consultant.
VO....did you take SAT
Me...(here I used Yvete's expo) I have taken college level classes at Laspotech and I sent my result to my school before they admitted me because they were impressed with my GPA (I stretched my hand to show him the transcript too but he didn't look at it)
VO.....do you have any relative in Boston
Me....no I don't
VO....that means you are going to live in the school campus
Me....yes sir
VO...and who will pay for all this
Me.....my dad
VO....what does he do
Me.....he is a retired staff of NNPC and the CEO of Godwin Cars Limited
VO....ok he sells cars
Me.......yes
VO......can I see his account statement
Me......yes ( I gave him the statement and he flipped through then returned it back to me and the next thing I heard was.....pickup your visa in 3 days time. He kept my passport and docs and handed a white paper to me containing steps on ow to get my visa with a green tag already given to me before my biometrics......that was how my interview went o......

All I have to say is...God was really there for me....I didn't take a ny test, I was lucky because that was the only fear I have been thinking about for long because the next toefl or sat date was after my school's resumption date so I just thank God because so many people were denied because they didn't take a standardize exam. Please it is important you take it o..I only used my experience which I gained here to scale thru that question when I was asked about SAT.....Yvete God bless you o......I dey go koko concert tonight to go pop champagne....because thru out my Xmas season I no shayo because I was fasting and rehearsing real hard. Thank you everybody in the house....Please the key to your visa is prayer and hard work..I prayed hard, fasted and abstained from so many things because of today and it finally worth it. All the gurus in the house .Keep up the good work....Boston, MA...here I come o....na too dey find cheap ticket now be that o..... grin

Imperiouxx oya burst some champagne for floor mehn....I wish all those who are yet to go for their interview success. Go and get your visa with full confidence and faith.

Congrats bro ... but why the immediate shayo now? You should still be in the spirit abi all the fasting and prayer na formings? grin

Guy, for the fact you have been using 23401 and 23402 and having your stuff delivered does not mean they are correct. When you go to the US pls get the correct zip code of where u live or work. 234 is for calling Nigeria and when you go to a NIPOST office your street zip code will be revealed to you. Because Nigeria does not make most use of their zip codes, should not make us tell others to stick to a wrong thing. My area zip code here in Jos is 930282.
+1

Y'all can actually lookup your zip code on the NIPOST website here: http://www.nigeriapostcodes.com

i think i would settle for California State University,Long Beach. they have a reputable track record and a great teaching staff for the postgraduate programme in Philosophy, goo research environ as well. GRE isnt a requirement for application consideration there

Dude, I hope say you hold better cash well with that choice wey you wan make so! grin

But seriously, California State University system have very high tuition/fees with little or no assistantship opportunities for incoming international students. I perceive you're trying to avoid taking the GRE so you're only searching for schools that don't require it. I strongly advise you to take the exam!! Trust me, you will have better options with a good score. Plus it will help your visa interview. In this US, you can get high quality education for $0 (actually you can even get paid to study here) if only you can make some initial sacrifices and do your homework well. If you are comfortable spending 35-40k a year on an MA/MS degree, by all means ignore my rant.

Mamacita007: Those of you with GA - Did you get the GA at the time of admission or afterwards? My school offers GA, but they won't allow anyone to apply until they accept you to the program. I just applied today. Should I wait till the GA decision is made before i schedule an appointment at the embassy? Because right now I don't have it.

And what if the GA decision turns out unfavorable? My dear, forget about waiting and go ahead to schedule your interview. When you get the GA you can request for a new I-20 if you still got time before your interview.

@jimtosam,

Do you mean waive of out state tuition + stipend but you still pay in state? Cross check that very well because waiving of tuition + stipends is usually for PhD. Except you are in one of the ivy league universities and/or you have good research already done.

Some schools actually give full tuition waiver plus stipends for MS. I am a witness grin
Investment / Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by webstradamus: 4:00pm On Aug 17, 2012
coolguyz: There will be primary auction for Treasury Bills on Wednesday, 22-August-12 with details as follows;

91 days tenor with maturity of 22-Nov-12, amount on offer is N30.647 billion
182 days tenor with maturity date of 21-Feb-13, amount on offer is N40.00 billion

The 91-day and 182-day bills are trading in the secondary market at 14.40% (offer) and 15.25%(offer) respectively.

Yields had gone up across all maturities in the past week due to a drop in the level of liquidity and an increment in the sales of bills by counterparties who need to raise funds to meet their obligations. However, there was a marginal drop over the past two days as there was a decrease in demand for bills. There is also the expectation of the FAAC inflow after the holidays. It is expected that yields at this auction might hover around the stop rates of the previous one

AjanleKoko:

I've used the GT Naira Mastercard on travel sites like booking.com. I have used the card on ATMs and POS terminals around the world. UK, Dubai (regularly), the US, India, and China.

US ecommerce portals will typically bounce a card issued in Nigeria. Though I use VISA (not from GT) as part of my account on Amazon and Zappos. I'm told it has more to do with the billing address not in the US.

Also, you can't use a card from Naija in any Walmart store. Tried that severally.

rayo2002: ajan you are right tried both visa and naira mastercard in walmart but no show...

you even have to hold cash these days as these cards can mess you up

Dunno about u guys but the GTB Naira MasterCard has worked for me in all Walmart outlets I have visited in MN. I even do cashback without any stress.
