A friend met this girl five years ago. She had then just graduated and had not even gone for NYSC. He was an undergraduate then but they had a brief time together before she later went for her service. It didn't take long after passing out of service before she relocated to a distant part of the city and this forced them to talk only on phone, partly due to his unstable nature of being off and on town as a corps member. Luckily for her, she got a bank job after service, which now occupies her time intensely. When he also finished his service, however, he left the city some time to another city but they were able to keep in touch and she always told him to inform her whenever he wants to hit town, so they could meet. There was an incident when he stole into town for an interview and left without informing her and she was disappointed. But he was able to pacify her, by explaining to her that the crazy interview caused it, because he was made to wait from morning till night to do his.
Fast forward to the present, he is back in the city but they have continued to talk only on phone to his chagrin, because he hungers to see her and advance the relationship towards safer directions. But she seems reluctant, weaving excuses upon excuses to evade meeting him. There was once an occasion his calls were left unanswered. She later told him that she was busy at the time of his call. He forgave her and inquired how they could meet. She cited the same excuse of being busy. In a bid to know if she was still committed, he asked if they could meet at an eatery joint since he had given her the options of either meeting in his abode or at hers. She acquiesced to this suggestion, but without failing to inform him that she won't assure him of fulfilling her promise. The problem now is that, he feels uncomfortable with the whole affair. First, he feels she is no longer interested in the relationship. He also feels she might think him too desperate, which makes him feel like he is being taking for a gold digger, since he now has a job that pays negligibly.
The question is, should he continue in his pursuit to build the relationship, or he should abandon it and build another? He still loves her.
