Politics › Jonathan’ll Spend Only Four Years– Pdp National Vice-chairman by wesley80(op): 10:20am On Nov 08, 2010
THE National Vice-Chairman (South-South) of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Edet Nkupbre, has said that President Goodluck Jonathan is in the 2011 presidential race for a single term of four years, explaining that the emergence of Jonathan in the 2011 poll was to complete the administration of late President Umaru Yar’Adua.
Nkpubre stated this on Sunday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, in an interview with our correspondent.
Nkpubre reasoned that Jonathan had not violated any zoning arrangement of the PDP by showing interest to contest the presidential poll, adding that the party was only interested in zoning arrangement and not regional arrangement.

The National Vice-Chairman explained that the emergence of consensus candidate from the north would also not make the race difficult for Jonathan, saying that the race would be thrown open to party members to decide based on the strength of each of the aspirants.

Nkpubre said, “Jonathan is not going for two terms. He will finish his first tenure in May and he will only do another term of four years. If anybody says he is using one term, Jonathan is using one term also.
“I believe Nigerians are very intelligent, they will choose the best candidate from all the contenders for the seat of the presidency.”
He also appealed to those calling for mass movement of party members to other political parties to jettison the idea. He added that the people should beg for the votes of the people and not to threaten the destruction of PDP.

Nkpubre said that the idea of reforming PDP was a right step in the right direction through the leadership of the National President, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, saying that it was necessary for the party to have its funding.
He said, “The proposal was made to make sure members fund the party and not the governors. To make sure we will generate enough money from out members to run the party instead of every chapter chairman of the party going to governors for funding.
“The frustration we get from the governors is because we need funding from them. If we have had independent funding from the party, nobody will care about the activities of the state governors.”

according tot your logic, we should quit fixing the road abi?
Why does this govt not have the moral and political will to bring to book all those who squandered the money allocated in the past for the repairs of these roads?
Do you not think that only then will present contractors know that the beat of the drum has changed and that dance steps ought to change?
So how does failing to bring contractors that have squandered funds make investing in entertainment a bad thing?

What are you talking about? So the best way support Nollywood is by investing $200mil? Its obvious from the emboldened part that you are just a dunce, for your information i am based in 9ja and the internet is readily available in the country, better go back to your cave and continue hibernating.
My friend stop yapping! Before you start throwing insults, justify your criticisms and name calling.
TV/Movies › Re: This GEJ Sef: To Invest $200 Million In Film Industry? by wesley80(m): 10:34pm On Nov 07, 2010
Of course in a country as ours that is beleaguered by huge developmental problems it wld be difficult to justify such an amount going to the entertainment industry but in reality should we view this as money going down d drain?
Recently as part of our 50th independence anniversary, the BBC did a continent wide opinion sampling about how Ngr has affected d continent and in every single English and a few non-English speaking country, the major thing all the respondents spoke of were our movies, bad reputation, music, tenacity and dress sense in that other, but the one single thing that dominated opinions from SA to Gambia, Namibia to Uganda was clearly Nollywood!. I stopped watching Ngrn movies a long time ago so u can imagine how ashamed i felt to hear foreigners speak so glowingly of d same home made movies.
D truth is we undaestimate d power of the entertainment industry, and d ability it has to reach out to the ordinary Nigerian with nothing to hold on to but his talent. How else could a daytime rubbish scavenger (a la Vocal Slender of This is Lagos fame) dream of rubbing shoulders with the Big guns of d entertainment industry? D likes of Baba Fryo, Daddy Showkey, African China, Terry G etc were condemned to poverty until their talents came in handy. I know dozens of youths inspired by such stories and doing their bit to harness theirs also esp in a country with few better alternatives.
Not everyone has d connections or money to get a Bsc abroad dat wld guarantee u a shot at d few job vacancies available but what no one can deny anyone that has it is 'talent' but yet we line up to criticize an attempt to support and harness such talents. The challenge of bridging the gap bw d rich and d poor goes beyond GDP figures but also entails giving equal opportunities to both d rich and poor and d entertainment industry has a key role to play.
What we should be debating is how best to use d funds and implement a laudable initiative to stop it from being hijacked but definitely not these criticisms and name callin
Politics › Re: Biafra War And Nigerian Government Misinformation by wesley80(m): 8:53pm On Nov 06, 2010
Actually, the reason Ojukwu lost the war according to psychologists was because he chose to represent Biafra with Half a Yellow Sun which Depicted a fading And unrealized dream and therefor failed to inspire the people as every time they saw their flag, they were reminded that their dream would never be realized. Psychologists believe if perhaps he had chosen a full midday sun, the people would av been more motivated and the outcome would av been different.
My theory as ridiculous as it is makes much more sense than yours. this is 2010, Quit Sleeping with the past.
Politics › Re: Nigeria: A Romance With Bankruptcy. by wesley80(m): 6:14pm On Nov 06, 2010
No doubt these are tough times and the economy is a near mess but to lump the entire blame on Gej is absurd. The mess we seem to be in is as a result of the accumulation of a mixture of bad leadership and faulty economic policies especially over the past 10yrs, so its nothing more than hypocrisy to hear Soludo who was one of the architects of the mess we r now in crying wolf. If the government he served so well had put the right policies in place would we be where we are today? The ease with which the ECA was plundered is an indictment on those that designed it in the first place given the reputation of our leaders. Perhaps it was expedient to design it as such when they did because it served the purpose they required, now the entire country is paying the price for their shortsightedness and d likes of Atiku and Soludo are shamelessly trying to exonerate themselves.
I have absolutely no sympathy for Babalola and think he only got what he deserved. As a minister serving in a cabinet, your every word carries weight so when you decide to come out and embarrss the govt u r part of, u should have facts to back you up. You dont go mute because someone said shut up! If you cant stand and defend your statement then u're better off in d cold.
This is such a bad time to be president and i dont blame Gej for being overly cautious. There is no serious reform he can implement without far reaching consequences esp as it concerns his election. deregulation would pitch him against the populace, cutting down govt expenditures in a country where flamboyance is d culture would see him going against the powers that be etc - Afterall what use would a reform be if it could be overturned in 6months? Maybe the worse is still to come but i believe it would amount to judging Gej by the failures of others if we r to blame him solely for the current state of our economy.

@na2day, its also a common occurence that whales run aground and sometimes have to be rescued especially the calves that r yet to master their routes. So until u can prove that the recent whale was dead and decomposing cos d reporter clearly avoided saying so, then u're being nothing more than a hypocrite for condemning and portraying people as desperate scavengers that would butcher even a decomposing and stinking animal out of greed. And for that here r 3 words ; Get a Life.

@ Shittu, First of all, its not a beast, its a fish - a big one, and one that happens to be a delicacy in some parts of d world. Do u honestly believe if one gets grounded in the Japanese coast they'lld push it back into d ocean? Do u know how much a pound goes for in Japan? Now to Ghana, Ok let me admit that maybe they have some order on their coast but take it from me, the only purpose dat would serve if this happens in Ghana is dat the people would be on a queue as they take turns in slicing their share! Food is food and more so on the African coast. Maybe someday we'll become like Westerners that are all for conservation and all d rest crap but before then please stop acting like u've got the autopsy report of every piece of fish on your plate. Quit being Hypocrites.

shameless Nigerians, same thing happened with Alameyshga. I dont get our people
Even Abacha had his followers didnt he? So why would it surprise you that people are speaking out for Ibori? A couple of months back, Warri was on standstill when hundreds of youths spotting pro - Ibori T-shirts were involved in a protest march calling for Ibori to be left alone! interestingly when the march got to the Effurun area, other youths organized themselves and attacked the pro-Ibori marchers and all hell was let loose. Properties were destroyed and people got maimed before sanity was restored. But two statements had been made, some love him - who am I to judge their motives - and some recognize he isnothing more than a privileged crook!

Abeg make una keep quiet. Make dem no chop before? is it not the same fish people buy expensive boats to go out in the ocean to seek? One washes up in your backyard and u r supposed to push it back into the Ocean? for wetin?
R we supposed to copy the hypocrisy of the West that would spend millions in rescuing animals but turn the other way when its human lives involved in the name of donor fatigue? Does anyone living in todays Nigeria really expect the Ministry of Health to rush out to conduct an "Autopsy' on a dead whale? Oh Come on people. how long does it take them to respond to a national epidemic?
When some Nigerians talk sometimes u cant help but believe the only thing about Nigerian they know is the bit they watch on AIT and NTA.
We've got more serious issues abeg. If a fish washes up on a hungry mans backyard, make e carry axe go cut him share, its God's blessing. For those of u yapping, make una go sleep. if i started a thread about a hungry family how many of you would even bother to open it? And u think u're showing your Humane side by yapping in favour of a dead whale!   Nonsense.  Hisseeeeeeeesssssss

OBJ Did marvellously well in establishing an excess crude account but was too shortsighted too back it up with appropriate laws and also failed to map out what the funds would be used for which led to frequent bickering about what to do with it.
The mere fact that the government is talking about it is an acknowledgement of guilt and an admission that mistakes have been made and hopefully, lessons learnt. It remains to be seen if the government can set aside their greed and take a decision that would benefit the nation in the long run.

Or is it easy to be 'doing well' in another mans land washing Plates,Corpses, and doing mai-guard (of course in morgues afterall who would employ u to guard anything of value given d way una eyez dey shine and your reputation?) yet they still save enough to send back home, gather enough to come home every 10yrs (of course they only stay that long because Ngr is too hot), dress like some Somalian version of Puff Daddy in their FB profile pictures and after all these expenses, they still have to maintain their constant internet service so they can bombard all these Home Based Nigerians(HBN's) in Nairaland about how they are enjoying 'White mens sweat'. ^^^ Perharps u have a grudge with Nigeria not as a country but as a people? Are u assuming that those who will be plying Nigerian roads this season would be doing so just to enjoy a 'joy ride'? U think they are oblivious of the dangers on the highway? Are some of those dangers not present in the part of Heaven you dwell? And as someone who visits 'the country' on Occasions' what is the basis of this 'travel advisory' if not to continue your obsession and scare mongering? So I ask again what is your mission or perharps your grouse with Ngr? Stop hiding under some humanitarian motives and spew it out.
