delkuf:Don't mind them, they lie with reckless abandon, without caring about how senseless the lies are. - https://www.google.com/amp/s/punchng.com/senate-approves-tinubus-21bn-foreign-loan/%3famp

Ezmans:Buhari did not remove subsidy. He left the decision to the incoming administration. Yes he did not budget it beyond June (one month into the new administration), there is something called supplementary budget. Besides, Nigerian had always imported petrol and paid subsidy without budgetary provisions. |
jlo247:Exactly. Tinubu has been behaving like he does not need the electorate to win elections. He know he has INEC, the Police, the military and most important of all, the courts. A presidential candidate that relies on people's votes would not remove subsidy on petroleum, and then replace subsidy with 5% petroleum tax, float the naira, deduct N50 from every transaction above 10k, tax 25% of earnings above 800k, etc. I really want to see how all these play out next year, just one year to a presidential election. |
Guestmale:Publicity or rather social media stunt. What's the big deal about cooking a large pot of jollof rice, beans, pasta or any other meal? What value does that add to the youth, the country or humanity? If cooking jollof rice was such a feat, worthy of world recognition, I am sure more industrialised nations like US, UK, Israel, etc, would beat us to it. Besides, the whole stunt was not well thought out, as the pot collapsed. I always wondered how a single pot could hold and support 200 bags (that's 10,000 kg (10 tons). The jollof rice was not well done as the flame (energy supply was insufficient to cook such large pot). Anyway, Hilda Baci got the attention she was seeking for. |
enambobo:If not joblessness, what will make thousands of youths leave their jobs or businesses, transport themselves to V/I, and waste the whole day, and at the risk of being trampled over in a stampede, just to watch someone cook a big pot of jollof rice? |
Skooltynz:Precursor to what will happen in 2027. President Bola Tinubu will record 3 million votes in 2027. |
frog12:Greed ke? How many bags of rice can N633,333 buy? How many litres of petrol can a salary of N633,333 buy? Do you think N633,333 can sustain a man of over 40 years with a family of a wife and three children? Abi, you expect a professor and his family to be jumping korope about and feeding poorly, and staying in a face me I face you apartment. The N633,333 would not even be enough to send his children to a good university in Nigeria. |
sreamsense:It's a matter of priorities. A country that prioritize Politics over education is destined for failure. A country that sounds more on politicians than academicians, particularly university lecturers will remain underdeveloped. If the best minds and those with calling for teaching are all forced to join politics in order to survive, then result will be illiteracy and semi illiteracy in our institutions. Professors should be professing solutions to scientific, technological and social problems apart from building future generations, instead of hustling outside the academic environment to make money to survive. The most developed countries of the world have top notch universities, along well renumerated and motivated Professors. |
Dennisochampa:I don't know of other countries, but I am sure a university professor or a medical doctor (specialist) earns more than a Member of Parliament in the UK. |
NOETHNICITY:I did not see anywhere where the doctor addressed the psychological and emotional trauma of the man that had been lied to and scammed into taking a responsibility that wasn't his. I don't see where the doctor addressed the issue of women taking responsibility for their actions/crimes. All I see is emotional blackmail of men into taking responsibility for the crimes of women. |
Jman06:And why would he be obliged to do that, especially if he is capable of bearing his own children. Would that not create complications if he decides to marry and start beating his own children? Would that not complicate the relationship between his ex-wife and the child? Why must the man always compromise his peace of mind and happiness, even if he is the victim? |
Jman06:So how would that work? Would the man still be responsible for the cheating and fraudulent wife along with her child? Men dey suffer for this world. |
aswani:Jews Nko? Dem send una? |
Masterstroke4:Is this not an insult to black Africans? So people from certain countries would be imprisoned in certain areas, and not be free to move to any other prefecture? Us this going to be an open air prison like Gaza. Maybe we too should start restricting Japanes (and Chinese) to specific locations inside Nigeria. Chinese should be restricted to Ogbomosho, and the Japanese restricted to Umuahia. We no get shame at all, imagine a small country like Japan with less than 130 million people summoning the whole African continent of more than 1.5 billion people, and our people running like beggars to meet them. |
Putinofrussia:OK we are now entering the realm of practical solutions as against idealistic propaganda. Though the way it was before was faulty, it was never adhered to or implemented. The wealthy were not made to pay their share fair of the taxes. In fact most billionaires in Nigeria avoided paying taxes. If the government is really serious about taxes, they should demand taxes as condition for running for elections, getting appointments into political offices and winning of government contracts. In fact EFCC should be mandated to include tax evasion as part of their operations, and investigate anyone who lives in luxury but no tax receipts to prove income. Then we can talk about taxing the poor market woman or okada rider. But then, in Nigeria, the law does not apply to the rich and powerful, it is made only made for the poor masses. |
Putinofrussia:Does Bill Gates pay taxes in Nigeria? Does he directly run a business in Nigeria? It is affiliates and those that sell his softwares and have physical presence in Nigeria that will bear the brunt of the multiple taxations. It's the direct taxation of all earnings above N800,000 from bank accounts that find unreasonable. How will the government determine gross earnings from profit. What Happens if you run at a loss despite a turnover of billions of naira? I am a businessman as opposed to government worker or contractor. |
Putindbutt:What's Donaza explain the new tax policy here and why peller the content creator is asked to pay N36 million tax by Lagos State government - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmwTogOm9C8?si=GH4cnzFd8dTG9_fa It's not import duty, VAT or other world recognised taxations that I am complaining against, it the outrageous double and triple taxation of the Tinubu administration of taxing all digital transactions after paying VAT on the same transactions, and the multiple unofficial but approved/tolerated government taxations. |
Putinofrussia:It is difficult to defend the indefensible. Those who are genuinely doing legitimate business in Nigeria understand that we already pay more “taxes” than almost anywhere else in the world. Instead of easing the burden on citizens, the Tinubu administration seems determined to bleed the people dry. This new so-called “income tax” on total bank deposits may well be the straw that breaks the camel’s back. Let me break down the reality of what Nigerians are already groaning under: 1. Import Duties Nigeria is an import-dependent country. Import duties are charged on almost everything we consume—cars, rice, medicines, machinery, fuel, and more. Even locally produced goods that rely on imported materials are not spared; duties and levies still apply. 2. Value Added Tax (VAT) We also pay VAT on virtually every good and service. The rate was increased from 5% to 7.5%, further tightening the squeeze on both businesses and consumers. 3. Taxes on Financial Transactions Things became even more ridiculous when the government started taxing our bank transactions. Every transfer or deposit attracts charges. While typing this I transferred ₦100,000 from my Zenith Bank account to my PalmPay account. Zenith deducted ₦53.75 as NIP + VAT, while PalmPay deducted another ₦50 as the Electronic Transfer Levy. That’s ₦103.75 lost in a single transaction—without earning a single kobo in profit. Now, imagine repeating such transactions multiple times a day, every day, as is common in business. The cumulative effect is massive losses for both individuals and enterprises. 4. Proposed Tax on Bank Balances To make matters worse, the administration is now proposing a tax on all bank balances above ₦800,000 per year. It doesn’t matter whether the money represents profit or loss, or how it got there—the government just wants a cut. Which other country operates like this? In the U.S., for example, Donald Trump legally paid zero taxes for years despite transactions worth billions because he declared losses. 5. Unofficial Taxes Beyond official levies, Nigerians face layers of unofficial “taxation” that government seems to tolerate. After buying land and paying all the official charges, you are still compelled to “settle” "omoniles" before you can build. All markets in Lagos pay levies to Iya Oloja, bales and other unofficial institutions disguised as traditional obligations. If you run a transport business, after paying official vehicle taxes, you must still pay agberos, police, unions, and local government touts at almost every turn. These are extortions disguised as taxes, and they cripple small businesses daily. The Religious Justification Fallacy I find it disturbing when people use religion to justify exploitative governance. The Bible never ordained taxes. When asked about paying tax, Jesus simply said: *“Give unto Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and to God what belongs to God.”* That statement does not equate to Jesus supporting taxation. It was simply a reminder that spiritual obligations and civil obligations are separate. A Tool of Oppression These oppressive taxes mirror the tactics of colonizers. The British taxed the Aba people so heavily that women rose up in the historic Aba Women’s Riot. It was taxes on imported tea that sparked the American Revolution, ultimately ending British rule in the U.S. Yet here we are, in 2025, facing a government that has chosen to weaponize taxation against its own people. Defending such a regime is not patriotism—it is patronizing oppression. |
Putinofrussia:What do you mean that it is basically the rich that will pay tax in nigeria now? Tinubu that is preparing to tax all cumulative transfers to accounts within a year over 800,000, irrespective of purpose for the transfers or the profit margins of the business. I am still waiting to see how that one will work. |
Ayiba0911:Did you not read from the Ibom Air press release the reason she was prevented from leaving. OK, after begging to leave, why did she refuse to leave when the security arrived and then asked her to leave the plane? |
Aprocco:I am always shocked by the way Nigerians reason. It seems the government needs impose civic education on every adult so we can understand how a civil society works. There is something called civilian arrest in our laws. If you witness a crime, you are allowed to arrest the criminal until the police arrive to make a proper arrest. This is in order to prevent the criminal from escaping. Now in this case, the passenger is alleged to have assaulted two airline hostesses, and was attempting remove the fire extinguisher to use it as a weapon. The pilot who is in charge of aircraft called for security. The hostess prevented the girl from escaping until the airport security arrives, and you are here talking about hostage. When the airport security arrive, did she agree to leave the plane willingly? She had to be bundled out of the plane and into their bus, in order to be handed over to the police. I am a human rights activist. We engage local vigilantes and sometimes area boys to help us make citizen's arrest, before handing over to the police, when thieves are caught or in assault situations. Here is Dr. Kevin Olunloyos take on the situation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17A-PysdV8Q?si=Q8b7X6_MKum2FqzY |
PlasmaTV:Culpable of what? What's Ibom Airs actual crime? |
PlasmaTV:But you are not bias? OK, how did you come about your own information about the incident? Do you have the police or NCAA report? |
SalamRushdie:No wearing a bra can get you arrested in Anambra state. |
PlasmaTV:https://www.nairaland.com/8495627/ibom-air-press-release-unruly |
frank417:Exactly. The only crime to me is the person that posted the video exposing her breasts. The new cybercrime law should take care of that. Besides that, the crew performed creditably. That's she was slapping everybody and no body retaliated must be commendable. Not many Nigeria have that level of restraint. |
SamuraiXXX:Then how much should she pay for distributing slaps like sweets. Maybe 5 billion per slaps. What of the damage to the aircraft and time wasted. That one should be 100 billion. |
Ekaka14:Don't mind them. It seems they are more hurt by the breast exposure than the lady herself. She did not even feel ashamed of her exposed breasts, and continued distributing slaps immediately she changed her top. |
iwaeda:The courts are on break. The resumption date is October. Anyone that commits a crime now will be remanded in prison until October. So be extra careful and stay off trouble. |
Aprocco:So after assaulting two members of crew and attempting to remove the fire extinguisher, they should just allow her to waltz out of the plane and airport? It seems you are not aware of citizens arrest before police become involved when a crime has been committed. |
Babaibe:I think you need to read the accounts of witnesses and the press statement of Ibom Air management. The lady was alleged to have waited in the plane to assault an air hostess. She was said to even attempt to remove the fire extinguisher to use it as a weapon. She then attempted to leave the scene. The pilot requested for airport security, and the air hostesses were tasked with restricting her until the airport security arrive. When they arrived, she then refused to ieave the plane, and was removed forcefully. It was in the process of removal thar she fell down the stairs and her shirt got torn, revealing her onions for everyone to see. Even after that she changed her top and continued resisting arrest and slapping everyone, including the supervisor. She was physically carried into the bus while she was behaving like a demon passed animal. That some people can be supporting such behaviour is shocking. |
frank417:She was the one that caused her privates to be all over the Internet. If the lady had not behaved like a demon possessed animal, her privates would not be exposed for all to see. If she tried this shit in the US, its not her privates you would worried about. In an plane, in an airport for that matter. In the US she would have been tackled to the ground, handcuffed, that is if she is not tased first We know how to condone bad behaviour in Nigeria. |
