Thanks so much for recommending Groupon the other time. I guess I will just take a chill and buy brand new tyres as you recommended. They would truly come with alot of peace of mind.
[quote author=19CannyMum post=99326526]I'm probably the one who recommended Groupon to you. I'm extremely cheapskates but I won't buy used tires. |

Thanks so much. I actually know about kijiji and Facebook. I am just weary of those who may want to sell tyres that are actually bad. NaijaCanadian28: I’m not a guru but I know people check Facebook marketplace and Kijiji for stuffs like that. |

Hello Calgary folks,
Can anyone recommend a place where I can get good used summer tires in Calgary. I do understand it's advisable to buy new tires but I am not willing to commit too much of funds to such for now.
Someone recommended Groupon to me last year for my oil change and it was extremely helpful. I wouldn't mind such recommendation for fairly used tires.
Thank you! |

You shouldn't have any issues with these. The Alberta health card covers child birth all for free (except you opt for a private room after delivery). Walk into the closest clinic to you and register to have a family doctor. The family doctor would refer you to the nearest maternal clinic. The maternal clinic would manage your pregnancy till it is time for delivery and refer you to an hospital for delivery. You will surely have a pleasant experience! Debv: Good day everyone. I soft landed in Alberta, Canada last year, I'll be coming back in few months time, by then, I'll be like 6 months pregnant. Is getting a job possible, also does the Alberta health card cover child birth?, and will it be easy to get a Doctor to attend to me while I'm already in my 6th month. Thanks for replying. |

It isn't a bad idea. Just shine your eyes, make sure the phone works well and unlocked so that it can work with any other carrier. jerryval42: Good evening fam, please is it advisable for a newcomer to buy phone from kijiji?
Can someone please attend to this?
Thanks fam! |

The most frustrating part is the fact that they are not reachable. They don't pick calls on their official contact phone number, the chat platform isn't available and they don't respond to mails. I sent a mail requesting for the procedure to send passports to them since December 30th, they are yet to respond till date. I eventually got all the info on Nairaland. Except for the personal phone numbers that people are giving out here now, it's just almost impossible to reach them if you have any issues and that's just very unfair. Why should everything be so difficult with the Nigerian system? crazyinlove: Hi guys, I found that VFS gave a wrong address to UPS. I had to double check if the mistake was from me but it was an error from their end. I have sorted this with UPS and I pray to get the passports in coming days. However, I think we really need to fight this courier being the only option for passport pickup. It doesn't seems to be reliable. They should be able to allow people to schedule appointment for passport pickup instead forcing everyone to use courier. A lot of applicants are in Lagos and can easily go pickup their passport themselves without using the courier. |
Travel › Re: Canada Visit/tourist Visa Discussion. by wizean(m): 1:56am On Jan 07, 2021 |
This is my biggest concern about this whole courier thing with VFS -The very possibility that packages can get lost in transit. crazyinlove: So I called vfs this morning on this number 08150188800 and they informed me the passport was shipped out since 22nd of December. The lady I spoke to gave me the UPS tracking number.
When I tried tracking the passport on ups site it was showing the package has been abandoned.
I am currently following up on this with both UPS and VFS. I will keep you posted.
Please anyone with similar experience should advise too.
Thanks |

I applied for my Mum in the middle of September but didn't use the COVID-19 reason as advised. She had her biometrics on Oct 6. I sent a mail to the address on the website and got a response that it is for those who applied before Apr 9th. She got her passport request yesterday. I am assuming they are still giving priority to immediate family members. Iyabeji12: I’m in the same shoes as you. Have you received any response? |

Hi, did you find answers to these questions? Kaylash: 1. Hello. Since vfs is only accepting passport submissions via courier what’s the process? Do you just go to dhl and courier to vfs? If yes, please what’s the address to be sure.
2. how long does it take them to return the passport? 3. How do you make the return courier payment?
Thanks |

I am assuming your intent isn't to make a "wash" of me. There is no dispute in the fact that peoples circumstances would always differ and fingers will never be equal. The post was basically to encourage whoever intends to come over and also to give a clearer picture of what finances might look like. It is common sense for a newcomer to be modest with expenses and it doesn't necessarily imply one would perpetually remain in that state. Surely, things would get better with time. If you read between the lines, you will observe that my tenses were in the past but that was actually my reality when I just arrived and I believe it's fairly reasonable for a newcomer. And with modesty and decency, your expenses might not take more than $3000 depending on the size of your family. With a family of 3, my expenses were always below $2500 monthly. jjohndoe83: I just feel like putting this out there for those, who like me at some point, are having doubts about whether or not to move (if Buhari is not enough reason) and that nagging fear of the unknown...I've just been here 3 months, so my experience is only limited to Calgary where I live and may not be broad-based enough, but I can say Canada is not a bed of roses, neither is it a bed of thorns.
If you're humble (and willing to shave off some of the ego that we're conditioned to back home), you will ALWAYS find something to do to pay your bills whilst you work your way to where you want to be, even during this COVID era. So if your concern is immediate survival, you will find something to pay the bills and keep you afloat. Just to give you a clue, between my spouse and I we pull in about $5500 after taxes on our basic jobs (that is we're not working in our fields yet) and we are sorted with change left.
Do not let any stories that you hear discourage you. For every one discouraging story, there are 20 stories of encouragement. Our paths are very different and unique. Keep your faith and optimism intact, Canada can, and will deliver to you what you work for.
Finally, HAVE A REASONABLE AND ACTIONABLE PLAN(S), don't come and coast.
Compliments. |

Thanks so much bro. salford1: In addition to the oil change, maybe the $290 quote includes tire rotation/wheel alignment. Just as 19cannyMum mentioned, Canadian Tire and Walmart have horrible reputation for simple stuffs as oil change.
If you are on a budget, you may be able to find an auto workshop in McKnight that would swap and change oil for $100.
If you are not on a budget but just looking to save some cost, you could follow the advice given by 19cannyMum. |

Hmmm, ignorance is not bliss. Thanks so much. 19CannyMum: Canadian tire garage has a HORRIBLE reputation. Take your car there at your own risk.
If you're in Calgary I can recommend Megatire for tire change. Fantastic service.
For oil change, what I did was I checked Groupon for oil change deals, then googled the various companies for proximity and reviews, then called two for direct quotes and went with the one I preferred.
On Groupon you can get deals for oil change + tire swap together.
Also if you're in Calgary you might want to hold off changing your tires for now, unless you're switching to all seasons. Last year there was a crazy snowstorm last week of April, and I think it also usually snows first week of May. |

I want to do an oil change and swap my tires back to summer tires, Canadian tire is quoting me $290. As a Johnny, I don't even know if that is too expensive or a fair price. I already booked for April 2nd. Someone please advise before I go throway money wein no dey salford1: Westwind auto repair limited at McKnight were the guys I used for oil changes and brake pads replacements on my 07 Elantra when I lived in Calgary. I have quick question please - do you have to use your ECA to get a job in CA when you land? Or the usage ends after the EE process? |

But I just feel it isn't effective enough. I prefer to put some aboniki in the middle of a cotton wool and insert in the compactment. egobetatoday: Can u tell us how u apply the balm with the humidifier? ...so we keep the info for when we need it |

The weather suddenly changed of recent. It gets too dry at night and we wake up with uncomfortable sinuses and bleeding nostrils. There is a way I apply the Balm with the humidifier and it gives so much of relief when it saturates the room. Obviously I would still be needing it till around March next year, so I don't mind December. I assume you aren't a first timer here for you to choose to come in December. EHAO: Lol... I laughed hard reading this. I am coming in December. If you can wait, I will bring the aboniki for you. This one you need 5 in October, I better buy a carton for December |
