Almighty Allah had said it all in the Qur'an. Qur'an 2: 2:9 - They (think to) deceive Allâh and those who believe, while they only deceive themselves, and perceive (it) not! 2:10 - In their hearts is a disease (of doubt and hypocrisy) and Allâh has increased their disease. A painful torment is theirs because they used to tell lies. 2:11 - And when it is said to them: "Make not mischief on the earth," they say: "We are only peacemakers." 2:12 - Verily! They are the ones who make mischief, but they perceive not. 2:13 - And when it is said to them (hypocrites): "Believe as the people (followers of Muhammad Peace be upon him , Al-Ansâr and Al-Muhajirûn) have believed," they say: "Shall we believe as the fools have believed?" Verily, they are the fools, but they know not Salam |

1. Work like you don't need the money. Love like you've never been hurt and dance like nobody is watching. 2. There are no secrets to success. Its the result of preparation, hard work and learning from failure. 3. The man who follows the crowd will usually get no further than the crowd. The man who walks alone is likely to find himself in places no one has ever been. |
Congratulations Tbaba; May Almighty Allah continue to enrich your knowledge and all of us in this thread. |
Having read the very educative and informative piece from Tbaba about 7 Things your Muslim wife won’t tell you; I think women too should also know more about man..... Here are the 7 Things Your Muslim Husband Won’t Tell You 7 Things Your Muslim Husband Won’t Tell You What’s Going Through Your Muslim Husband’s Mind? Ever wish you could read your husband’s mind? Western culture encourages husbands and wives to talk to each other and discuss things. However, in many Muslim cultures, men are raised to be stoic and tight-lipped. Muslim husbands are very often (not always) reluctant to talk about certain things with their wives. Part of the problem is also that sometimes it is hard to actually formulate our thoughts into the right words. The only thing more difficult than translating thoughts to words is translating feelings to words. So, a lot of Muslim men and women go through their marriages with very little communication and never really knowing what the other person is thinking. This quick list is for the Muslim sisters in my audience. This list will give you good idea of some of the things your husband thinks about, but just doesn’t know how, or want, to tell you. 1. Above All, He Desires Your Respect I spoke about this in my article “Love or Respect: Which Do You Prefer?”. In this article, I explained that women want to know their husbands love them, and men want to know their wives respect them. It’s important that Muslim women understand the value of respect for men, especially Muslim men. In Islam, men are taught from a young age that they are supposed to be the bread-winners and caretakers of their families. You can imagine how frustrating it would be for a man, who tries his best to care for his family, to be married to a woman who doesn’t respect him. She may declare that she loves him, but without her respect, he will quickly fall out of love with her. This idea is put forward in the Quran where Allah says: Men are in charge of women by what Allah has given one over the other and what they spend from their wealth. So righteous women are devoutly obedient, guarding in [the husband's] absence what Allah would have them guard. Chapter 4, Verse 34 2. He Desires Your Loyalty This goes hand in hand with respect. There’s nothing that will ruin a marriage quicker than the idea that your spouse is not loyal. The idea, that he or she is not going to stick by you. I’m not talking about infidelity. This is what usually comes to mind when people talk about loyalty in a marriage. What I’m talking about is knowing that the person whom you’ve chosen to spend the rest of your life with is going to be there for you when you really need them. Most men won’t admit it, but we do need women. And we do need your support. And it’s very troubling to be married to a woman who may not be around when the going gets tough. If you are constantly threatening divorce or separation or Khula (Islamic divorce initiated by the wife), you can expect your marriage to fizzle out very quickly. Your husband needs to know that you’re going to be by his side if: He loses his job and the money gets tight. He tries to do something (like start a business or go back to school) but fails at it. His reputation is tarnished or his honor is attacked. You should be loyal to your husband before everything else except Allah and His Messenger (pbuh). If you’re loyal to your husband, than rest assured he’ll be loyal to you. 3. He Wants To Have Sex More Often Let’s get this right out into the open. Some women might think men are narrow-minded brutes for this, but it’s the truth. Men desire sex. Men really desire sex. So when you give him the following excuses: “I’ve got a headache.” “I’m not feeling good.” “Can’t it wait till the weekend? I’m really not in the mood.” Know that your husband is going to go to sleep a little upset with you, even if he doesn’t show it. And do this often enough, he’s going to start resenting you. And that resentment will build up and may lead to him being unnecessarily mean to you or losing some love. Please keep the following hadith in mind: When a man calls his wife to his bed, and she does not respond and he (the husband) spends the night angry with her, the angels curse her until morning. Bukhari and Muslim. Something to think about. 4. He Thinks About Other Women Okay, first of all, calm down. Don’t unsubscribe from my mailing list just yet. Let me explain this. All men think about other women. It doesn’t mean he’s going to cheat on you. It doesn’t mean he’s thinking about taking a second wife. It doesn’t mean he’s fantasizing about another woman. It just means that all (straight) men do, at some point in their lives, consider having another woman (i.e. wife). You’re better off coming to terms with this and accepting it than having false, purile notions about men. The best way to combat these thoughts are to apply the advice given in the first three secrets: Respect him. Be loyal to him. Give him physical love when he wants it. Does this mean he’ll never take a second wife if you do these three things? Of course not. But it will raise your value in his mind relative to other woman and he’ll be all the more reluctant to look for those three things (respect, loyalty, and sex) elsewhere. 5. He Wants To Make You Happy Why do you think men work so hard to make money? Why do you think men are willing to leave their jobs and risk starting a business? Why do you think men like buying women gifts? Because deep down, we really just want to make you happy. ![]() Sometimes we screw it up and forget our anniversary. But we really would prefer to remember because we know it would make you happy. So when your husband buys you a gift, accept it, rejoice over it, thank him profusely, and use it as often as possible. If he buys you some jewelry, wear it. If he buys you a new smartphone, use it. If he buys you a car, drive it. And don’t be so quick to nag him about the things he doesn’t do right. Because then he’ll start feeling that you don’t respect (there’s that word again) the things he does do for you. 6. If You Nudge Him, He Can Be A Better Muslim Nobody’s perfect. Perhaps your husband isn’t a Muslim scholar. Perhaps he’s not the best Muslim in the world. You can nudge him to make him better. But you can’t force him. Do little things to get him to improve his Islam. Offer to wake him up for Salaatul Fajr. Encourage him to make Salaah at the Masjid. Tell him how much nicer he’d look if he grew his beard. This takes deliberate words, a soft touch, and careful action. No one likes to be preached to. But if you do this right, you’ll be getting a double reward: The reward that comes with living with a righteous husband. And the reward in the next life for encouraging your husband to the truth. Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience. Chapter 103, Verse 3 7. He Loves You, Even If He Doesn’t Always Show It I know, this one may be kinda hard to swallow. But it’s true (usually). Men are just not that good at showing emotion (unless we’re talking sports or politics). We don’t tell our wives “I love you” often enough. We’re not perfect. And constantly comparing us to Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) ain’t helping. Of course, we are supposed to emulate him (pbuh) as much as we can. And for most of us, we are doing the best we can. But we just can’t treat you the same way he (pbuh) treated his wives. Similarly, it’s unfair for men to expect their wives to behave like Aisha (RA) and his other wives (RA) did. Just because your husband doesn’t treat you in the way (you think) the Prophet (pbuh) treated his wives, doesn’t mean your husband doesn’t love you. It just means he’s human. It is very important that you understand this. If he’s doing his best to take care of you. If he doesn’t abuse you or sleep around. If he sincerely tries to solve your problems and helps you in the best way he can. Then chances are he loves you. A lot. http://islamiclearningmaterials.com/7-things-your-muslim-husband-wont-tell/ |

rahamAllah: As-salam alaikum wa rehamatullah.Wa Alaykum Salam, you are welcome. |
For those of us (Single) looking forward to meeting Mr/Mrs Right, here are some wonderful tips I came around: 7 Etiquettes of Seeking a Spouse: An Islamic Perspective Below are some Islamic principles, both general and specific, to consider if you will be meeting or seeking a potential spouse for yourself or someone else at a conference, lecture, the mosque or another event: 1. Ask yourself: Why am I getting married This is a good question to ask even if you are meeting the person to make a final decision because it will be a reminder about the real purpose of marriage from an Islamic perspective. Marriage is part of faith and it is part of the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. As well, “my intention should be I am looking for someone with whom I will build a family,” says Imam Muhammad Nur Abdullah, a member of the North American Fiqh Council. He conducted pre-marriage counseling in the U.S. for two decades. “Marriage is a commitment and relationship that starts in this Dunya (world) and will continue Insha Allah in Paradise together,” he adds. 2. Ask yourself: what am I looking for in a spouse Abu Hurairah related that the Prophet said: “Men choose women for four reasons: for their money, for their rank, for their beauty and for their religion, but marry one who is religious and you will succeed” (Bukhari, Muslim). This of course, applies to women as well. However, religion it seems, is not always foremost in the minds of many people. In fact, it's probably the last factor on too many Muslims' list. According to Tasneem Qadeer, one of the seven volunteers who runs the Islamic Society of North America's matrimonial service, being a doctor or a lawyer is much more important to many Muslim women than piety. And the men are not any better. Many matrimonial advertisements in Islamic publications for instance, demonstrate a key demand for a wife who is “fair, slim and beautiful”. “If we want to have healthy Muslim families then Deen has to be first,” says Aneesah Nadir, president of the Islamic Social Services Association of the United States and Canada. She is one of the co-developers of the program “Marriage the Islamic way”, which teaches various aspects of marriage such as how to find a spouse, the wedding and the post-wedding marriage relationship. 3. If you're looking for a spouse lower your gaze This may seem like a contradiction, but it's not. Looking for a spouse who has the right qualities and whom you are physically attracted to does not mean throwing out the obligation to lower the gaze for both sexes. “Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and be modest. That is purer for them. Lo! Allah is aware of what they do” (Quran 24:30). “And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and be modest, and to display of their adornment only that which is apparent, and to draw their veils over their bosoms...” (Quran 24:31). “Scoping the territory”, from this perspective, would not be Islamically acceptable. Imam Nur Abdullah notes that looking at a potential mate is recommended according to the Hadith in which the Prophet said: “When one of you asked a woman in marriage, if he is able to look at what will induce him to marry her, he should do so. ...” (Abu Dawud). This means the two potential spouses can look at each other but not ogle or stare. Abdullah also notes there is no limit on the number of times the two people can look at each other. However, both should fear Allah and remember the purpose of this is to satisfy the need for physical attraction to the person you are marrying. He also notes it is not permissible for a man to see a potential wife without Hijab, since he is not her Mahram (a relative with whom marriage is not possible, or her husband). Abdullah says seeing her face and hands are enough to determine attraction. 4. Get someone to help Marriage is not something to throw yourself into all by yourself. Getting the help of someone, especially parents, relatives, an Imam, and/or respected and trustworthy members of the Muslim community to either look for the right spouse or initiate and participate in a communication process is very important. Involving others, by the way, does not mean signing over your right to say yes or no to a marriage proposal. It simply increases the likelihood of finding out important information about a prospective partner in a way that maintains rules of Islamic modesty (i.e. not meeting alone, see next point). Getting that third party involved also helps verify if the person you are interested in is decent, honest and respectful. This person(s) often checks out references, asks about the individual's character and behavior, and looks out for your best interest in general. This person should be a trustworthy Muslim, since you are seeking a Muslim in marriage, and would want someone familiar with the Islamic way of doing things. For those blessed with Muslim parents, remember that they are probably your best allies and helpers in seeking the right husband or wife. They have known you all of your life, and have your best interest at heart. However, parents must be open and attentive to what their children are looking for, and never forget the element of choice. Ultimately, it is their son or daughter who is going to make the final decision. They must never become too pushy or aggressive, whether this pressure is being applied on their own son or daughter, or on the person s/he is interested in. If parents, other family members, an Imam or members of the community are not available, you can also try seeking a husband or wife through the matrimonial services offered by a number of different Muslim organizations. 5. Always ask for references This is also where your “third party” comes in handy. Not only will they be able to be your reference. They can also check out a prospective mate's references. A reference can include an Imam who knows the brother who proposed to you, a sister who knows the woman you may want to marry well, a family friend, a boss, a co-worker, and/or business partner. A note about honesty and references: the people you ask may know something not very nice about your prospective spouse. Remind them that if they reveal this information, they would not be backbiting from the Islamic perspective. In fact, in the case of seeking marriage, complete information should be given about an individual, both good and bad. The advice of one of the companions of the Prophet, Umar Ibn al-Khattab, can help in this regard: A man came to Umar ibn al-Khattab and spoke in praise of another. Umar asked him: “Are you his nearest neighbor such that you know his goings and his comings?” “No.” “Have you been his companion on a journey so that you could see evidence of his good character?” “No.” “Have you had dealings with him involving dinars and dirhams [money] which would indicate the piety of the man?” “No.” “I think you saw him standing in the mosque muttering the Quran and moving his head up and down?” “Yes.” “Go, for you do not know him...” And to the man in question, Umar said, “Go and bring me someone who knows you.” (quoted from Islam The Natural Way by Abdul Wahid Hamid, p. 66) This gives you three types of people you can ask about a prospective mate's character: a neighbor, business colleague or someone who has traveled with them. 6. When you meet, don't be alone The Prophet said: “Whenever a man is alone with a woman the Shaytan makes a third” (Tirmidhi). He also advised men: “Not one of you should meet a woman alone unless she is accompanied by a relative within the prohibited degrees” (Bukhari, Muslim). Meeting alone, in the hotel room during a conference for instance, is not permissible. The prospective spouses should not place themselves in a situation where no one else can see or hear them. Instead, a discreet, chaperoned meeting should be set up. The chaperone, while allowing the two to talk, is in the same room, for example. As well, parents or guardians should set a time limit, recommends Shahina Siddiqui, president of the Islamic Social Services Association‘s Canada branch. A whole day, for example, is too long for this kind of a meeting. 7. When you speak, be businesslike and to the point The purpose of meeting and talking to each other must also remain within Islamic guidelines. That means no flirtatious speech of a sexual nature on either side. Imam Nur Abdullah says some of the topics discussed can include each other's interests, financial situation of the man, who is Islamically responsible for providing for his wife and children, and the two potential spouses' relationship with their parents. He notes that conversations between potential mates cannot be talking just for the sake of talking. There should be a firm and clear intention of either pursuing engagement and marriage, or, if one of the two or both the man and woman feel they are not compatible, a quick end to the relationship. This ensures both sides are safe from getting hurt more than they could in this kind of a situation and remain within the bounds of Islam, Insha Allah. With regards to questions pertaining to a person's sexual history (for example, has s/he had a boy/girlfriend, does s/he have any type of sexually transmitted diseases), Imam Nur Abdullah says these things have to be investigated at the very beginning, when the communication for marriage begins. This is not something that should be brought up at the last stage. Other topics that should also be discussed at the early stages include level of Islamic knowledge and practice, future career and education plans, home making skills and where the couple will live right after marriage and in the future (state and/or country, with in-laws or in their own apartment/home). The Imam also says the couple can even get a blood test to ensure both are healthy. Some states require this before marriage. Seeking marriage is something highly recommended in Islam. While looking for a potential mate should be something Muslims help each other with, this cannot be done at the expense of Islamic rules pertaining to modesty and respect between the sexes. |
Tbaba definitely deserve it |
b03liberty: salam alaeku. biodun is my name., am a muslim. pls i dont know why muslim women/ladies more cases do hide their identity/religion as a muslim?Wa Alaykum Salam, you can post the questioon to the link/thread below for further deliberation https://www.nairaland.com/751801/muslim-singles-let-us-talk/76#up |
deols: you keep talking of bad behaviors without mentioning what they are. So, because you think some things are bad about some Muslim ladies you know, you want us to just agree they are that way?The qualities I will really like in a woman are: 1. Trust-worthy (Straight-forward): Most of them I have met and that we are still friend lack this element. There's a quote I always use for my friends both males and females "You don't have to tell your friend everything about yourself BUT make sure whatever little you said are nothing but truth". I've always found them wanting in this case. 2. Forward-looking (Seriousness) 3. God-fearing 4. Nagging (In-patience) - I used to experience this on Nairaland also. I would have explain what I mean by all these but my battery is low. BTW: I'm not in anyway attacking women, but just saying what I've observed (with those I've met in my environment, study centre and work). And I believe you understand all the point (that's my own turn-off, because they might not be bad in some other people's observation) |
ossyme: While I appreciate the concept of courtesy ... i think in this degenerate world of ours, it carries some interpretations that are covertly or overtly[b] taqwacidal[/b]. These will be regarded as welcoming by some of our muslim brothers who think some sisters are rather too cold to behold. Its true that some Muslim brothers think of intimacy, kissing, etc as a courtesy due to the level of damage civilization has on us. But I can tell you that some brothers don't even think and want something of that nature, all they need is straight-forward person who doesn't pretend to be holy but do so many bad things at the back. In my own view, brothers follow the right step than our sisters (even though some guys can be so bad). May Almighty Allah guide us through the right path. |
maclatunji: I kind-of understand what you mean. To be honest, I don't know how or why things are like this. However, I will strongly advise that you understand that religious incompatibility is a major strain on marriage. I can assure you that a Muslim guy that meets a Muslim girl and they both love each other deeply, share religious beliefs with similar passion, are successful professionally will still have major problems not to talk of someone that starts with an handicap. Don't forget, you are not marrying a single individual, you are joining two families together. How will that work-out effectively without your religious values being compromised?Mac, thanks so much for your wonderful contribution and advice. I agreed with every bit of your reply, infact its always all the disadvantages in cross-religion marriage that always scare me from even thinking about entering into it. I am optimistic that I will still fulfill my desire (which is marrying Muslim sister). I always believe marriage is a LIFE CONTRACT where couple live in LOVE & HAPPINESS together till death separate them, that's why everybody has the qualities he/she want in a partner. Compromise can be make sometime to those qualities but at least such partner must be able to exhibit some other qualities. According to one Hadith (I can't remember the exact saying now but go somehow like this): "A man must be able to LOVE his believing wife (Muslimah) even if one of her behaviour is bad, he will surely find some attitude of her very good" (Muslim). What now happpen if she has more bad attitude than the good one, would the Love still be there. Even though, I tolerate a lot, there are some behaviour that easily turn me off and most of this behaviour is what I found among them. If I am to marry somebody from other belief/religion, there will certainly be an agreement, of such person converting to Islam because it is really bad for husband and wife to be practising different religion (and I know some of my present friend around me that can easily convert without any hitches as they are not strong in their faith) BUT is the fear of bringing up my children in Islamic way that prompt my post (Man alone cannot teach his children religion and moral without the greater help from the wife but how can somebody that just convert and still learning teach children the right path). Its all those thinking that is now occupying my mind, even though I am not in hurry of getting married for now but someone need to start thinking about the future as time wait for no one, as people keep reminding me of my Birthday in 2 days time in my office, the more concern about the future engrave my mind. But I surely believe Almighty Allah will grant me my heart desire and wishes. To my Muslim brothers and sisters in Islam, I believe if we truly follow the teaching of Islam in which we claim we practice, we will surely become the best mankind on earth. Islam is already a complete and perfect religion is we (Muslims) that need to really work on our behaviour and attitude. We should try as much as possible to be a good example to other mankind. I cried inside sometimes when I see the behaviour some Muslims showcase in the society especially Muslimah (Muslim woman), some of such behaviour are not worth living with. The earlier we trace our step back to Almighty Allah the better for us. Maa Salam..... |
This thread has been interesting and educative so far - Jazak-Allah to all the contributors. May Almighty Allah continue to shower us knowledge and make us stead-fast on His path till the day of Judgement (Amin). I will really want us to deliberate on cross-religion marriage (i.e. a Muslim marrying from another religion/belief). Though Almighty Allah permit Muslims to marry other belief of which they were given books, as stated in Qur'an 5:5 Qur'an 5:5 Made lawful to you this day are At¬Tayyibât [all kinds of Halâl (lawful) foods, which Allâh has made lawful (meat of slaughtered eatable animals, milk products, fats, vegetables and fruits). The food (slaughtered cattle, eatable animals,) of the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) is lawful to you and yours is lawful to them. (Lawful to you in marriage) are chaste women from the believers and chaste women from those who were given the Scripture (Jews and Christians) before your time, when you have given their due Mahr (bridal - money given by the husband to his wife at the time of marriage), desiring chastity (i.e. taking them in legal wedlock) not committing illegal sexual intercourse, nor taking them as girl-friends. And whosoever disbelieves in faith [i.e. in the Oneness of Allâh and in all the other Articles of Faith, i.e. His (Allâh's), Angels, His Holy Books, His Messengers, the Day of Resurrection and Al-Qadar (Divine Preordainments)], then fruitless is his work, and in the Hereafter he will be among the losers. Even though Almighty Allah permit such, we (Muslims) normally look for Muslimah (Muslim woman) to marry in order to uphold our belief (Especially religious woman as she might not want to lose her religious belief for anything in the world - which such decision is quite good). It is always every Muslim brother's desire to marry Muslim sister for continuous understanding and promotion of their faith; the question now goes like this, what can be done or what are the ways in which someone can make cross-religion marriage works? My question is based on what I have been experiencing along with other guys around me and it goes like this.... I am a guy who try as much as possible to be realistic and when it comes to marriage, I surely have some qualities I always look for in a woman (though the qualities are so few) but I found these qualities somehow scarce and rare among Muslimah (Muslim woman). I am not into any relationship for now but I have so many female friend (ordinary friend) around me which I always watch and study whether they can be the right person for me (I dont really believe in entering relationship with strangers... so, anytime I met a woman and we exchange number, we normally become friend without any attachment in order for me to see if such person have the qualities I want in a woman) BUT unfortunately I always find it funny that the qualities I want are always been found among the other belief while the Muslimah are not always close to my desire qualities (may be this is due to the environment that I live, study and work). I thought I am the only one experiencing things like this until last week when one of the friend complain bitterly about the same thing. Even though I can compromise on some of my desire qualities, I still discovered that most of this Muslim girl lack the essential ingredient of a wife material compare to other girl in other belief/religion. And I am afraid, if this trend continue, I wouldn't have choice than to marry from other religion as prescribe by Almighty Allah. So, how can some make cross-religion marry work. Please lets share our experience, eye-witness and knowledge about cross-religion marriage; the good, the bad and the best of it. Thank you for your contribution. |
kopite: Russia also blocked UN position in syria. so lets see who is crying like a lame duck. russia is a rogue state that puts money interest ahead of people's blood. see whats going on in syria. we have not forgotten so easily.I disagree with your position that Russia is a ROGUE STATE, if not for the like of Russia and China, USA would have took their oppression of smaller countries to another level. Do you ever think USA have the INTEREST of all these small countries they are invading with a propaganda of helping in mind. All they (USA) do is to pretend as if they are helping them likewise exploiting their resources (the situation of Libya should be fresh in our memory). If USA truly have the interest of people at heart, I expect them to have weigh their stand against what is happening in DR CONGO and other country where there is crisis at present. The earlier we realise that USA only fight for its own selfish interest the better for us. |

Clinton heading to Middle East for Gaza conflict talks: White House PHNOM PENH (Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama is sending Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to the Middle East for talks with Israeli, Palestinian and Egyptian leaders to seek a de-escalation of the violence in Gaza, the White House said on Tuesday.USA should come out bold and confront Israel to stop oppressing and injustice violence over GAZA which I doubt if they will really do this on the long run. All this talk and lobby could only calm down the violence for a short time, the violence will always be there until the right thing is done by returning GAZA to its rightful owner and stop oppressing the people over the rightful land. |

Medical doctors under the employment of Lagos State Government, yesterday raised alarm over what they described as ‘acute shortage’ of doctors across the state – owned hospitals. Speaking in Lagos, Chairman of Medical Guild, an umbrella body of doctors in the state, Dr.Olumuyinwa Odusote said the worst hit among the hospitals was the state’s teaching hospital, where it takes about five months for a patient to secure appoitment with a doctor. Odunsote who frowned at the development blamed the problem on mass resignation of doctors following failure of the State Government to implement the controversial Consolidated Medical Salary Scale, CONMESS in the state. Appealing for quick resolution of the problem by the state government, said: “People wait as far as five months for appointments to see a doctor or get treatment. Continuing, Odusote called on Lagos State Government to address the shortage urgently by implementing CONMESS. “We have written to the state government over the problem at hand and we are hoping the resolution will be quicker than expected so that our people will not suffer unduly.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/11/medical-guild-says-lagos-hospitals-lack-doctors/ |
UNITED NATIONS (AFP) – Russia on Monday accused the United States of seeking to “filibuster” a UN Security Council statement on the Gaza crisis amid prolonged talks by the 15-nation body. Russia’s UN envoy Vitaly Churkin said his country could propose a full council resolution backing peace efforts if a lower-level statement cannot be agreed. That could force the United States into a veto to protect its Israeli ally. Churkin said one country on the council indicated “quite transparently that they will not be prepared to go along with any reaction of the Security Council.” He did not name the country but diplomats said the United States was delaying a statement sought by Arab nations. Morocco, representing Arab countries on the 15-nation council, proposed a statement calling for a halt to the Israel-Hamas hostilities last Thursday. Diplomats said the United States and other countries had proposed amendments to the text in talks on Monday. Churkin said one delegation had sought “quite extensive amendments” and that he suspected there was a bid to extend the talks. “To me it unfortunately looked like a little bit of a filibuster attempt,” Churkin told reporters. The council was to meet again late Monday to discuss the statement. Russia has already proposed a ministerial meeting of the diplomatic Quartet on the Middle East — the United States, Russia, United Nations and European Union — on the crisis. Churkin said that if the statement was frustrated, his country could propose a Security Council resolution that calls for an immediate ceasefire, supports the Egyptian-Arab led mediation efforts and calls for resumed Israeli-Palestinian negotiations. The United States fiercely defends its Israeli ally at the Security Council, normally using its veto to block any criticism. The US presidency said Saturday that rocket attacks fired on Israel by Palestinian militants in Gaza were a “precipitating factor” in the conflict. “We believe that Israel has a right to defend itself, and they’ll make their own decisions about the tactics that they use in that regard,” Deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes said. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/11/russia-accuses-us-of-blocking-un-gaza-statement/ |

After Sir Alex Ferguson dismissed Chelsea's claims of abuse by Mark Clattenburg following Sunday's clash, the Italian questions the Red Devils boss' influence over officials Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo's war of words with Sir Alex Ferguson has intensified after the Blues manager claimed that the Scot enjoys an enormous influence over referees' decisions. The Italian was responding to his counterpart's rebuke of the Stamford Bridge outfit's claims that referee Mark Clattenburg abused midfielder John Obi Mikel during the two sides' clash on Sunday. United won the game 3-2 thanks to a goal from Chicharito, who appeared to be in an offside position, with Branislav Ivanovic and Fernando Torres also being sent off for the hosts, the latter a controversial dismissal. "I think there is a lot of evidence that United get all the big decisions," Di Matteo told reporters. CHELSEA LATEST 11/2 Chelsea are 11/2 with PaddyPower to beat Swansea City with five or more total goals in the match "There are some feelings in general but I don't think they [referees] do that with a purpose, it's just part of their decision-making and it seems to go in one direction." Chelsea have reported Clattenburg to the Football Association after carrying out an internal investigation of their own and Di Matteo is adamant that they were correct to do so. "We believe we did what was right. I cannot say more than that because of the investigation," he insisted. "We didn't take the decision lightly. It's a very serious issue. "He [Sir Alex] likes to talk about other clubs, we tend not to. I'll leave it up to him. It doesn't really affect me too much, to be honest. "I have to say that it happened in the past as well. I think there is a lot of respect between your colleagues, the managers, in general, and everybody has a different approach. Some people talk about other clubs and clubs' issues and some don't. "We'll take the knowledge of his comments but it doesn't mean that we share it." http://www.goal.com/en-ng/news/4071/premier-league/2012/11/03/3498423/manchester-united-are-favoured-by-referees-insists-di-matteo?source=breakingnews |
Hmmmmmm.... Why are we so poor in researching to get an authentic information/report on a subject matter before broadcasting it, in this part of the world. I am not surprise by the unprofessional attitude of PM News, if the whole Presidency who should have accurate and first hand information can non-challantly lifted a false information about the Corruption Index in Nigeria without verification before reading it to Nigerian and International world on October 1st, what more should we expect. In a sane country, the paper will automatically lost its credibility, I am sure before tomorrow, many Nigerians will still believe blindly in the information that will be pass out by the same media company. May God save us in this part of the world. |
