Foreign AffairsI Can Relate To Black People, My Ancestors Once Owned Slaves – Mitt Romney by Wizeboy(op): 4:52pm On Aug 28, 2012
In yet another seemingly faux pas moment for the former governor and presidential candidate, Mitt Romney tells a crowd of supporters in Alabama that he can relate to the plight of black individuals because his ancestors were slave owners in the 1800′s.

Mitt Romney was addressing a crowd in Prattville, Alabama this past Monday when he stated:

I understand how difficult it can be for an African-American in today’s society. In fact, I can relate to black people very well indeed. My ancestors once owned slaves, and it is in my lineage to work closely with the black community. However, just because they were freed over a century ago doesn’t mean they can now be freeloaders. They need to be told to work hard, and the incentives just aren’t there for them anymore. When I’m president I plan to work closely with the black community to bring a sense of pride and work ethic back into view for them.

Even though this latest statement by Mitt Romney will undoubtedly be spun so that it will be seen as being taken out of context, someone needs to tell this man to just keep his mouth shut and smile. So far, he has told citizens that he is friends with NASCAR owners, NFL owners, and now that he is related to slave owners. Stick to economic policy Mitt, that’s your strong point. Your history at Bain Capital speaks for itself.

The Romney campaign has yet to release its version of the speech made in Prattville.

[quote author=the.game]Lets not forget that okada riding is a means of income and a source of employment to some people out there[/quote]Based on the little I know about the new Lagos Traffic Law, OKADA is not ban, is only for them to be operating at the inner roads where their life will be more saver and NOT expressway which have so many dangers for their life.

Nobody is disputing that Okada riding is a means of income and source of employment but their operation must be regulated in order to save their life and the life of the populace at large. I dont believe they (Okada riders) should be going on a SUICIDAL MISSION everyday for them to eat (they can operate inner street and municipal roads which is more saver for them).

You can only enjoy the money you earn, if only you are still alive and healthy; and NOT spending such money and even your family went borrowing in order to foot their hospital bill at Igbobi General Hospital.

PoliticsRe: Governors Will Abuse State Police - Jonathan by Wizeboy(m): 11:10am On Aug 28, 2012
I believe STATE POLICE will do more harm than good to Nigerians at the level we are now. Our politician Governors are playing politics with every available power and opportunities in their hand and can also use the STATE POLICE to harass, attack and oppress the opposition in the State since they are the one that will be controlling it.

I remember the issue of Ayo Fayose and Bola Ahmed Tinubu back in those days where Tinubu was giving an house-arrest by Fayose citing insecurity/political thuggery for his action. Another State Governor (especially the opposition party) can be detained by other State, which can really cause chaos in the country.

Dont be discourage, you just need to improve on the subjects you are having problem with by either attending good Lesson/Coaching in your area or if you can afford it, employ a private teacher to teach you the said subjects. God Almighty will see you through.

BTW: I hope during the 7/8 years, you have learned one or two hand-work. If not, then those years can said to be wasted. While trying to get educated, it is not a bad thing to get yourself empower in other aspect of life. There is no confirm theory that says you must be educated to be successful in life.
IslamRe: Why Do Muslims Not Eat Pork? by Wizeboy(m): 11:32am On Aug 27, 2012
Muslims do not eat pork due to the Almighty Allah directive in the Holy Qur'an.

Pork prohibited in Qur'ân

The Qur'ân prohibits the consumption of pork in no less than 4 different places. It is prohibited in

Qur'an 2:173:
He has forbidden you only the Maitah (dead animals), and blood, and the flesh of swine, and that which is slaughtered as a scrifice for others than Allâh (or has been slaughtered for idols, on which Allâh's Name has not been mentioned while slaughtering). But if one is forced by necessity without wilful disobedience nor transgressing due limits, then there is no sin on him. Truly, Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Qur'an 5:3:
Forbidden to you (for food) are: Al-Maitah (the dead animals - cattle - beast not slaughtered), blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which Allâh’s Name has not been mentioned while slaughtering, (that which has been slaughtered as a sacrifice for others than Allâh, or has been slaughtered for idols) and that which has been killed by strangling, or by a violent blow, or by a headlong fall, or by the goring of horns - and that which has been (partly) eaten by a wild animal - unless you are able to slaughter it (before its death) - and that which is sacrificed (slaughtered) on An-Nusub (stone-altars). (Forbidden) also is to use arrows seeking luck or decision; (all) that is Fisqun (disobedience of Allâh and sin). This day, those who disbelieved have given up all hope of your religion; so fear them not, but fear Me. This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islâm as your religion. But as for him who is forced by severe hunger, with no inclination to sin (such can eat these above mentioned meats), then surely, Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Qur'an 6:145:
Say (O Muhammad SAW): "I find not in that which has been revealed to me anything forbidden to be eaten by one who wishes to eat it, unless it be Maitah (a dead animal) or blood poured forth (by slaughtering or the like), or the flesh of swine (pork) for that surely is impure, or impious (unlawful) meat (of an animal) which is slaughtered as a sacrifice for others than Allâh (or has been slaughtered for idols or on which Allâh's Name has not been mentioned while slaughtering). But whosoever is forced by necessity without wilful disobedience, nor transgressing due limits, (for him) certainly, your Lord is Oft¬Forgiving, Most Merciful."

Qur'an 16:115:
He has forbidden you only Al-Maitah (meat of a dead animal), blood, the flesh of swine, and any animal which is slaughtered as a sacrifice for others than Allâh (or has been slaughtered for idols or on which Allâh's Name has not been mentioned while slaughtering). But if one is forced by necessity, without wilful disobedience, and not transgressing,- then, Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

The above verses of the Holy Qur'ân are sufficient to satisfy a Muslim as to why pork is forbidden.

But in case you are not a MUSLIM, Bible and Scientists also confirmed pork to be harmful for human health:

The Bible prohibits the consumption of pork, in the book of Leviticus
"And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be cloven footed, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you". "Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcass shall ye not touch, they are unclean to you." [Leviticus 11:7-8]

Pork is also prohibited in the Bible in the book of Deuteronomy

"And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it is unclean unto you. Ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcass." [Deuteronomy 14:8]

A similar prohibition is repeated in the Bible in the book of Isaiah chapter 65 verse 2-5.

While the Scientists says: Eating of pork can cause no less than seventy different types of diseases. A person can have various helminthes like roundworm, pinworm, hookworm, etc. One of the most dangerous is Taenia Solium, which is in lay man’s terminology called tapeworm. It harbours in the intestine and is very long. Its ova i.e. eggs, enter the blood stream and can reach almost all the organs of the body. If it enters the brain it can cause memory loss. If it enters the heart it can cause heart attack, if it enters the eye it can cause blindness, if it enters the liver it can cause liver damage. It can damage almost all the organs of the body.

In as much as I agree with his decision to introduce the new N5000 note, where my worry lies is the introduction of N20 coin. Though COIN is been used in more advanced countries of the world as a means of transaction but I doubt if that will work in Nigeria.

I remember when 50kobo and N1 was converted to coin, the price of sweet, biscuits and some other items quickly rise to N5 and had been like that since then. I strongly believe if N20 notes is finally converted to coin, hardly will the value worth what it is today (the price of Pure Water, Biscuit, Sweet and some other things will change drastically) because of Nigerians mentality.

He should therefore, let N5, N10 and N20 remain paper note, in order not to cause hardship for Nigerians.

I know Islamically, single men and women can't be alone together. The belief is that when eligible Muslim men and women see each other without a chaperon present, the devil is also present, in the form of sexual temptation.

Then, Young couples who respect the tents of their faith and of the Quran should arrange to meet with a chaperon present. The Islamic faith frowns heavily on unchaperoned dating and premarital sex, hence the presence of a family member as a chaperon.

Based on this fact, I believe once a chaperon is always present when the two parties meets, there would not be any premarital sex and moreso, they should ONLY meet when they have very important issue to discuss; if not Phone Calls, Greeting SMS can go on a long way in getting them know each other well.

At least with this, there would not be any attempt by both of them to commit sin (haram) while they are gradually planning to meet each other parents.

Thats just my own candid opinion, which I believe does not go against Islamic rules (the society we our is a very delicate one where jumping into any marriage without thinking twice is always HIGHLY REGRETTABLE)

I STAND TO BE CORRECTED ON THIS... We are all here to learn!!!

tbaba1234: Physical contact between an unmarried /unrelated man and woman in Islam is supposed very limited... A 4 year 'relationship' would definitely involve contact that is not permitted...
No, it actually depend on the parties involves in such relationship. The brother I talked about in my last post is actually a well-learned Ustaz and even one of the top gun in Ansar deen Society of Nigeria now (though that does not make him SAINT) but I can confidently tell you that it happens. Alhamdulilahi the brother later told me when they even got married that he met his wife as a virgin too (likewise the brother a virgin also).

I should have mention his name here (but due to his post in Ansar deen now, I will not be able to do that); we have very close and really learn a lot from him.

tbaba1234:
The earlier you meet with the guardian, the better..
even if you meet directly... Keep your intentions pure and follow the right channels.... There are no bf-gf relationships in Islam... you are either married or you are not...
I believe the issue of Guardian can only comes up if both of you are in the same Society or live in the same community; that can never happen in a situation where you both met outside like in occasion, inside bus or elsewhere.

I believe once both parties intention (the guy and the girl) is pure and clear, BF/GF issue might not be an Haram par se, its about controlling yourself by not having intimacy at all before you get married. I know a guy that have about 4 years relationship with his girlfriend WITHOUT intimacy before marriage (I dont believe this is an Haram).

I dont think I can just see a MUSLIM Sister (and been a MUSLIM sister) I will just jump to marry such person without knowing if we are compatible with each other and moreso, knowing if her character and ways will worth taking with me forever. And this take between ONE to TWO YEARS (though we can never know all about ourselves before marriage BUT we should at least know half of what I will be living with for the rest of my life).

deols: and yh! I wasnt done. I just find it hard to fathom that you keep embarrassing yourself all over the forum and it doesn't help that your being a mod here makes pple add the tag Islam to your posts. So my outburst is a need that I had to fulfill. At some point I thought, if every1 kept telling you the same thing, maybe u'd change and since you havent I might just help rub it in a little more.

So, Why would you say something you thought could be seen as demeaning, belittling and humiliating with the thought that you could get away with it when you put your ridiculous grins and make everyone have a thought that 'it was a joke'?

and then it actually was a thought in your very simple mind. I cant possibly find such thoughts wrong. They probably are a result of the day to day happenings around you. Cant be too far from what obtains in your 'area' but it becomes wrong when you bring it into a public forum. Many of the people I know who are here and the ones I have known from here are self respecting, career driven, intelligent Muslim women and your 'under the roof' mentality just doesnt apply to them.

So when next you want to talk your mind, think again for I would be here to address you. have it in mind that I am being polite NOW.

and again, like How much were you talking about??
Please, dont lets make this issue personal, though he may be wrong in making such assumption (but some of us just take it as a joke) and he has also disclaim his comment... Lets forget the issue and take it as a mistake on his pact (which nobody is above).

On his role in the forum generally, though I have not been following his comment as much but I used to find his comment in Politics very interesting and balanced. People normally attack him there just because they know he is Islam Section Mod which by this as offended some of them by hiding their post here (they are just transfering the aggression on him in other section). I believe been a Mod does not cease his right to make his opinion know if those people are not religious bigot.

Once again, please take his comment as a joke (or rather a mistake) and forget it by not asking him about the money issue he jokingly mention earlier.

We are brothers and sisters and we should try to tolerate our mistake and misdeed. Thanks for your understanding.

Asalam Alaykum to my Brothers and Sisters in Islam

Please let make an end to this thread, we all have said what should be enough for somebody to think deeply and know the right path. Let us take note that its not in our power to take people to the right path if Almighty Allah decide not to, our own is just to show all the evidences WITHOUT violence or abuses.

Almighty Allah have said it all in the Glorious Qur'an, Suratul Yasin (36:5-12)

5: (This is a Revelation) sent down by the All¬Mighty, the Most Merciful
6: In order that you may warn a people whose forefathers were not warned, so they are heedless.
7: Indeed the Word (of punishment) has proved true against most of them, so they will not believe.
8: Verily! We have put on their necks iron collars reaching to the chins, so that their heads are raised up.
9: And We have put a barrier before them, and a barrier behind them, and We have covered them up, so that they cannot see.
10: It is the same to them whether you warn them or you warn them not, they will not believe.
11: You can only warn him who follows the Reminder (the Qur'ân), and fears the Most Gracious (Allâh) unseen. Bear you to such one the glad tidings of forgiveness, and a generous reward (i.e. Paradise).
12: Verily, We give life to the dead, and We record that which they send before (them), and their traces[1] and all things We have recorded with numbers (as a record) in a Clear Book.

gbadexy: How does a brother get to meet good muslim lady to settle down with. or rather where is the best place to meet good muslim ladies.
There is no laid down strategy or ways of meeting good Muslim Lady to settle down with (people should correct me if I am wrong with that assumption), some might say in the Mosque or religious gatherings BUT I disagree with such opinion, because meeting Female Muslim in such a place does not guarantee her been a GOOD MUSLIM LADY to settle down with (so many people had taken that route before and later discover it was a mistake to make that assumption).

My own advise is that man looking for GOOD MUSLIM LADY should:

1. Pray for Almighty Allah guidance in selecting the best for you
2. Know that there can never be a Perfect or Very Good Muslim Lady (likewise persons generally), is when you accept her little imperfection that she becomes perfect in your own way.
3. Be a GOOD MUSLIM MAN; as good attract good and vice versa
4. Should not always take Beauty as primary reason of marrying a Lady (Beauty may be important, but should be secondary after character).
5. Should also be able to tolerate and endure
6. Her knowledge about ISLAM might also go a long way in making her behave well

May Almighty Allah guide and guard us (Bachelors) to choose the right LADY when the time comes to settle down (AMIN)

omosexy1: Who told you the Nigerian athletes didn't prepare? These guys are athletes, they just don't go to sleep after the Olympics. They go back to their clubs, to train and compete in other competitions. Their best wasn't just good enough to compete against the world. Nigerian coaches need to look for talent in secondary schools and primary schools where they can be trained. There is need to introduce a scholarship scheme for athletes and also all schools should have a well equipped sport facilities. Well it is a pity that private schools has taken over the important role of public schools in our society and these private schools, even with the huge tuition fees, impact little knowledge to kids. So lets prepare our minds for poor outing in Brazil. The same thing applies to football.
While the likes of USA, Great Britian, China, Canada and so on give their athletes some grant to take care of themselves, we (Nigeria) are always putting the welfare of our athletes in the hand of their clubs and you expect them to perform wonders.

Let ask ourselves while Nigerians representing other countries in any sporting activities always excel. It is simply because of the welfare and adequate facilities put on ground for them to train...

Even if we discover new talents from the grassroot, once the system still remain the same, they can never do any wonders "you dont give what you dont have".

Its neither the fault of our participant nor Coach. Nigeria had always been lucky winning medal at the Olympic without adequate preparation.

While other country prepare for an olympic for good 4 years, we only prepare for just 2 months and we expect miracle to happen as usual.

The early we start getting things right, the better for us.... "Any country that fail to plan is definitely planning to fail".

Actually,I asked that question for a reason I have thoroughly discussed on this forum. Muslim men/Imam/alfas prefer to talk about and emphasize the role of a woman in her marriage while almost totally neglecting that of the man. see this link- https://www.nairaland.com/884289/nigerian-muslim-men-women#10316770 .

the effect of that is not be far-fetched.

the truth is majority of us are selfish. very much hoping we'll get partners who would be the best in the world without striving to be the best we can be.
grin grin May be its time Muslim women/amira start talking about and emphasize on the role of a man too in their marriage cheesy cheesy #just joking

YOU ARE VERY CORRECT... what I just believe is that we have to be the best in order to attract the best partner into our life and moreso, pray to Almighty Allah to give us a very good and enduring partner. With this, I believe life will be so good.

[quote author=Bélla3]seriously, i dnt care if you bow to stones in Kabbah or stone the devil in ur 'holy city'. In ur naive mind u think that for God to hav a son he needs a consort. Is ur god that weak? That he cant create a simply being and name his son? By Gods grace, i am given a previlage to be a daughter of God. To share a special bond wit Him-what about u? I can nw be called a daughter of God as long as i do His will.
I must say 'congratulations' for twisting everything i said to fit ur vanity. Jesus gave a new law which is 'LOVE'. Love God, love thy neighbour. When u Love, you wouldnt take a life, you wouldnt steal, you wouldnt lie,. When u Love God, u'd do his wil. Just the word 'love' sums up evrything Jesus had to say to faithful believers. Seriously, i dnt care if u are a muslim or nt, all i think is u shud be educating people in ur religion dat we are in the 21st century and the laws of Mohammed have to be forgoten. They shud stop the massacre of the innocent esp children. GO nd educate ur brethren in Somalia dat 'education' is the only way to see the light. When u have done just these two, u can cum nd chant 'PEACE PEACE' and nobody would think u are misusing the word. HALLELUYA JESUS has been given power and i can partispate in dat power and Glory.
Do me a favour, also tell ur brethren that 'death' is only the begining for us becos we have eternal life, bt dat doesnt giv dem any right to play 'God'.
So ur igbo husband is a muslim too?(just asking no offence meant)
Stay blessed![/quote]please take note that Muslim dont worship stone or Kabba, but are praying according to how Almighty God prescribe. We worship GOD Almighty in the direction of His Grand Temple/House. We never worship the Temple/House itself. The Bible's Prophets in the Bible also had a "House of GOD Almighty" that they worshiped Him in. Also, the Jews' wailing wall today is a similar example to the Muslims' Kaaba, where the Jews pray to GOD Almighty facing the wall. The Bible also says: "I will bow down toward your holy temple and will praise your name for your love and your faithfulness, for you have exalted above all things your name and your word. (From the NIV Bible, Psalm 138:2)"
GOD Almighty's Holy Temple in Islam is the Kaaba in Mecca.

You see how religious bigot turn you to be the dumbest person in the world. As he been interrogated, and he told you they are fighting for Islam.

What even gave you the assurance that he is the one who perpetrate the evil or has anybody come out to claim responsibility for the attack?

Try to always be fair in your analysis without sentiment.

deols: and the good husband shouldhuh?
cheesy cheesy cheesy why are you so jealous deols grin grin

Anyway, the following are the characteristics of a good husband that I have read:

The Prophet(Sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) said, “The best of you is the best one to his family.” [Al-Tabarani]

To share food with her, to provide her with (decent) clothes as he provides himself, to refrain from smacking her, and not ignoring her but in the house. [Ahmad]

Fear Allah in (treating) women. [Muslim]

One should not hate his wife. If he dislikes some of her attitudes, he would (surely) like others (attitudes). [Muslim]

Woman was created from a bent rib and will not be made straight for you on one way (that you like). If you want to enjoy her, you enjoy her while she is still bent. If you want to straighten her up, you will break her. Breaking her is divorcing her. [Al-Bukhari & Muslim]

Do (volunteer) fasting (some days) and do not fast (in other days), pray at night (some nights) and sleep (in other nights). Your body has a right on you (to rest), your eye has a right on you (to sleep), and your wife has a right on you. [Al-Bukhari & Muslim]

And live with them honorably. If you dislike them, it may be that you dislike a thing that Allah brings through it a great deal of good. [4:19]

The Prophet (Sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) said,”A Dinar (a currency) that you spend on your family, a Dinar that you spend on a poor person and a Dinar that you spend in the sake of Allah. The one that carries the most reward is the one that you spend on your family.” [Muslim]

The Prophet(Sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) said to Saaid ibn Abi Waqqas,”Know that no charity that you give whether small or large, for the sake of Allah, but you will be rewarded for it, even the bite (of food) that you put in your wife’s mouth.” [Bukhari & Muslim]

vemmawealth: Why you dey advise them? Let them be adamant now. The man that will perish will be hardened first. Remember pharaoh? That was how he perished. Its not by force to accept d truth. Keep worshiping d sun, moon and stars and blackstone and kaaba. Be astrologist and starreaders and voodoist. You already know you are going to hell.

Don't deceive yourselves, there is not going to be any virgin anywhere. Infact, there will be no ggenital/ssexual organs in heaven. All of us that are going will do with celestial bodies and that body is spiritual not carnal. Mohammed is very dumb because he also said sun sets in muddy water - Q. 18:86 :

Till, when he reached the setting-place of the sun, he found IT SETTING IN a muddy spring… (Pickthall)

Until, when he reached the setting of the sun, he found IT SET IN a spring of murky water. (Y. Ali)

Until, when he reached the setting place of the sun, he found IT SETTING IN a spring of black muddy (or hot) water. (Hilali-Khan).

What can he not say. "Mumu too much"
I can now confidently say that you a confused human being. You that did not know up to 20 percent of your so-called religion, trying to convince people. I have told you several time to respect other belief's believe but you refused to listen.

If not the high level of maturity Nairaland Muslims show on this thread (which I so much happy about), if they have started trading bad words with you, you and your fellow people will be saying Muslims are intolerance without knowing how intolerance and bad attitude you have shown on this thread. You are the person that derail this thread and I have asked you over 50 questions on your religion which you have not been able to answer ONE.

The earlier you learn to tolerate other people the better for your life. I being a Muslim, I have so many Pastor friends who know more than you do but we have NEVER in a day engage in religion argument.

My advice is for you to go to Christian Section and learn your religion well first before intervening in other people's belief (with all the nonsence you have been typing here since a week ago, how many people have call you to become Christian). No hard feeling, please go and get a life.....

Thanks for your understanding in advanced.
