Police Quiz Cele Pastors
March 29, 2010 15:19 (1 hour ago), 202 views

Following the Supreme Court judgment which bars forbids the appointment of a new pastor for the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) Worldwide, the police in Lagos have invited all those claiming to be pastors of the church to its headquarters for interrogation.

P.M.NEWS gathered that prominent leaders of the church and the self-acclaimed pastors of the church, including Pastors Josiah Kayode Owodunni of CCC, Ijeshatedo Parish; Emmanuel Mobiyina Oshoffa, Paul Suru Maforikan, Steven Erubase Orhovboni, Godwin Bolanle Shonekan and Edward Olayiwola Oladokun have been invited to the police command.

Investigations revealed that some of them heeded the police invitation and had made useful statements to the police on the leadership crisis rocking the church.

Pastor Suru Maforikan of CCC, it was learnt, honoured the police invitation recently and explained all he knew about the leadership tussle in the church.

Pastor Owodunni was scheduled to appear before the police last week, but it was not certain if he honoured the invitation as at the time of filing this report.

A police source, who gave P.M.NEWS a statement directing the Assistant Inspector General of Police (Intelligence) to monitor the activities of the so-called pastors, explained to P.M.NEWS that the title of pastor was exclusively for the office of the overall leader of the church.

“As it is now, what is supposed to be the right of one person has been bastardised through duplication.

“Apart from the blatant disobedience to the Supreme Court order, all of them have succeeded in destroying the traditional institution of shepherds and church workers by anointing members into the sacred positions of church workers such as Most, Snr. Evangelists and Superior Evangelists in honourary capacity thereby creating problems within the rank and file.

“Although anointment in the church is supposed to be carried out once in a year in December, these self-acclaimed pastors perform this exercise throughout the year and will take the exercise abroad contrary to the laid down directive of the founder of the church,” he stated.

PoliticsYar'adua's Son Makes Ministerial List by woye77(op): 5:01pm On Mar 24, 2010
Acting President Goodluck Jonathan pulled a major surprise yesterday in the ministerial nominee list he sent to the Senate for confirmation.

He retained only seven ministers from the old 42-man cabinet and nominated 18 new ones – a week after dissolving the Executive Council of the Federation (EXCOF).
A notable newcomer on the list is Mr. Olusegun Aganga, a Managing Director of Goldman Sachs International, who is expected to man the finance portfolio.

Another notable inlcusion is Alhaji Mutallab Yar’Adua, son of late General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, elder brother to President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

The list was submitted to Senate President David Mark about 3.45 p.m. by the Special Assistant to the President (in charge of Senate), Dr. Cairo Ojougboh. The first batch of nominees will be screened on Thursday in the Committee of the Whole.

Members of the dissolved cabinet who made the list are former Minister of Labour and Productivity and until the dissolution, Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Adetokunbo Kayode; former Minister of State (Niger Delta), Mr. Godsday Orubebe; and former Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Mrs. Dieziani Allison-Madueke.
Others are former Minister of State (Agriculture), Mrs. Fidelia Njeze; former Minister of State (Power), Mr. Somo Nuhu Wya; former Minister of Youths Development, Mr. Akinlabi Olasunkanmi and former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Mr. Odein Ajumogobia (SAN).
THISDAY was informed last night that any old minister whose name was not on the first list may not stand a chance of coming back.

There are petitions and protests against some of the old ministers, some of whom are being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
Also, there are disputes in some states on the renomination of old ministers. In Niger, for instance, Governor Babangida Aliyu is keen on the return of Mohammed Ndanusa, the former Sports Minister, while General Ibrahim Babangida prefers Hon. Bawa Bwari, former Chief Whip of the House of Representatives.

On the new list is the Managing Director of Goldman Sachs, Mr. Olusegun Olutoyin Aganga, who is expected to take over as Minister of Finance.
Other new nominees are former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Women Leader, Chief (Mrs.) Josephine Anenih (Anambra); former Executive Director, NAPIMS, Mr. Chris Ogienwonyi (Edo); a member of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Mr. Chukwuemeka Wogu (Abia) and Vice-Chancellor of Kebbi State University, Professor M.K. Abubakar.
Others are former Military Administrator of Bayelsa State, Navy Captain N. S. Olubolade (Ekiti); Awodele Alao (South-west); Alhaji Mutallab Yar’Adua (Katsina); former South-south Caucus Leader in the House of Representatives, Hon. Nduese Essien (Akwa Ibom); Alhaji Umaru Aliyu (Taraba), and Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq (Gombe).

They also include former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, Labaran Maku; wife of former Governor of Plateau State (Fidelis Tapgun), Mrs. Josephine Tapgun (Plateau); Bello Adoke (SAN); Captain Suleiman Bello; former Minister of National Planning, Senator Sanusi Daggash (Borno), former Minister of State for Agriculture and Water Resources, Alhaji Adamu Maina Waziri (Yobe); and a member of the current Senate, representing Bauchi South on the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) platform, Bala Mohammed.

The list containing the second batch of nominees is expected to arrive in the Senate as soon as consultations and security screening are completed on it.
Meanwhile, Mark yesterday night held a meeting with the acting president ahead of today’s formal announcement of the list on the floor of the Senate.

@joagbaje - and others, i think it's very wrong to criticize someone else just because they hold a different view from yours - the world is a free place and everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion just as you are entitled to yours - if someone says something you disagree with, let God be the one to judge the person not you. SportsNigeria Lines Up Four Pre World Cup Friendlies by woye77(op): 3:43pm On Mar 10, 2010
Nigeria line up four pre-World Cup friendly matches
By Oluwashina Okeleji

Coach Lars Lagerback and the Super Eagles set to play North Korea
The Nigerian Football Federation has confirmed four pre-World Cup friendly matches for the Super Eagles.

The NFF says the team will play against North Korea, Paraguay, Colombia and Ukraine on dates to be announced soon.

The Eagles' new coach Lars Lagerback had requested for the games before they head for the finals in South Africa.

Three of the matches will be played at yet to be decided venues in London, while the game against North Korea will be played in Pyongyang.

Coach Lagerback had said right after resuming work last week that, it was important the team plays these games in order to become a cohesive unit and the NFF agree with him.

"We're on the side of the coach," NFF Secretary-General Bolaji Ojo-Oba told BBC Sport "And we want to give him all the needed support expected of us.

"Considering the fact that there are no Fifa free dates between now and the World Cup, we have sorted out the top four games he craved," he continued.

Revealing the NFF's World Cup preparation programme for the Super Eagles, Ojo-Oba also disclosed they would play North Korea on 14 April in Pyongyang, North Korea.

"Only one (the match against North Korea) will be played outside of London," he added. " Hopefully we can get all our best players together in London.

"London is central and we are banking on their clubs to make it a hitch-free preparation."

The Nigerians will then face Paraguay on 15 May in another warm-up in London.

He added that Colombia and Ukraine will be their opponents on 26 and 29 May in the city of London before they depart for their final camp in South Africa.

Nigeria are drawn in a group alongside Greece, Argentina and South Korea in the first round of the global tournament.

Despite wide expectations in their homeland, the Super Eagles have never gone beyond the second round in three previous appearances at the World Cup (1994, 1998 and 2002).

But new coach Lars Lagerback believes the Super Eagles have the talent to reach the World Cup semi-finals in South Africa this summer.

Jonathan to run with IBB

A very dependable source told Daily Sun: “Jonathan was made to understand that there is no way the North would not feel short-changed if another Southerner becomes president in 2011 after eight unbroken years of Obasanjo presidency. In any case, Jonathan is still seen as a light-weight politician, his acting presidency position notwithstanding. As a form of compensation for him, the group moved to persuade IBB to run with him.”

Babangida’s candidacy is being advocated specifically for the same reasons Obasanjo was made president in 1999. According to our source, because these are very testy times, “We don’t want a trial and error scenario. We need a man who has been there before, a man who knows the challenges of the office. A stabilising figure, who is reasonably accepted in different parts of the country. Of all the former heads of state, IBB appears the most acceptable.”

However, the group pushing for the IBB/Jonathan 2011 ticket appears split down the middle. While a rump of the Yar’Adua group appears to favour an IBB presidency, they are not favourably disposed to Jonathan in the political calculation. Some powerful political gladiators, Daily Sun further gathered, are vehemently against a Jonathan presidency or vice-presidency beyond 2011. Their grouse, according to our source, stems from the ‘untidy’ manner the Acting President allegedly handled the Yar’Adua issue. His words: “Jonathan behaved double-facedly in the issue of the ailing President. While, on the one hand, he pretended to be in sympathy with the embattled President, on the other hand, he was stoking the fire and engineering the processes leading to his eventual declaration as Acting President.”

Another group in the power calculus also appears favourably disposed to a Babangida/Orji Kalu ticket n 2011 or Babangida/Peter Odili pair. The reasoning is that both Kalu and Odili are consummate grassroots politicians with a large following and acceptability in different parts of the country. But Jonathan is likely to clinch the vice-presidency ticket under Babangida because of the powerful forces in the Advisory Council rooting for him.
The Yar’Adua group seeking a soft-landing for its members are also sharply divided over who takes over from the ailing leader if he eventually makes it to 2011. While some key members of the group feel comfortable with a Babangida presidency, other strong voices would prefer a serving Northern governor as presidential candidate, with Chief James Ibori, former Delta governor as running mate.

Even though he’s yet to make a public pronouncement on his rumoured presidential interests, Daily Sun investigations reveal that the former military president may have braced up to the challenges of running for the exalted office in 2011. He has been consulting different interest groups as well as Nigeria’s foreign allies who seem disposed to his return to the office he left 17 years ago. Towards this end, Babangida is expected to travel out of the country this weekend on a routine medical check-up. “But he will be consulting with some Western powers on the way forward for Nigeria and his role in the post-Yar’Adua era,” our source confided.
How these contending forces and power-§play would play out before Nigeria’s crucial 2011 elections remains to be seen. And Nigerians, stupefied at the game of wit and intrigues hovering around the power circuit, watch with bated breath.
