looking at this picture made me realise how funny the world can be atimes - someone becomes so popular that even when we see a part of his body, we know whose it is - really the hands could have been that of anybody, afterall we haven't seen the full picture - but in all our minds, we know for sure it's not just any hand - it could only be that of one particular person - and even without seeing 'that person' we know who the hands belong to - what a funny world! ![]()

Former England managers Glenn Hoddle and Sven Goran Eriksson are in Nigeria for final interviews to take over as coach of the Super Eagles. Former Sweden coach Lars Lagerback is also being interviewed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). Ex-Senegal boss Bruno Metsu and former Ghana coach Ratomir Dujkovic have already been interviewed. "We can confidently say that the new man will be announced from these names," said the NFF's Ademola Olajire. Nigeria have been without a coach since Shaibu Amodu was sacked shortly after his side's disappointing Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Angola. The NFF has had to move fast to find a successor to give them as much time as possible to prepare for this summer's World Cup in South Africa. And according to the NFF, the new coach will be announced on Sunday. "That top coaches are already here in Nigeria for an interview is a pointer to the fact that we are almost there," spokesman Olajire continued. "Names alone cannot guarantee success so therefore the technical committee wants someone who can bring what fans, media, football house and the world expect of our team." Three weeks ago, Nigeria named a list of preferred candidates, and since then Louis Van Gaal, Guus Hiddink and Peter Taylor have all rejected the chance to coach Nigeria. Dutchman Hiddink last week agreed to become the coach of Turkey, taking control on 1 August upon expiry of his contract with Russia. Meanwhile, the NFF has also confirmed that Nigeria will face the DR Congo in an international friendly on 3 March. This will replace the planned friendly against Paraguay in London, as negotiations between the two countries failed. Amodu, who is now overseeing the team of locally based players that will take part in the African Nations Championship, is likely to be in charge for that game with the new coach watching from the stands. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/africa/8536325.stm |

Tragedy struck at Oban village in Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State as two love birds were found dead in a pool of their own blood on the eve of Valentine’s Day on Saturday, February 13. The death described by most people within the community as the horror of the year, threw residents of the compounds and its environs into palpable fear and confusion as a good number fled for fear of police arrest. The horrific scene played out when the two lovers, Emmanuel Udofa, 30, and Mercy Udom, 26, died as a result of a tragic love affair. Udofa was said to have stabbed his lover, Mercy to death and subsequently committed suicide by hanging himself on a ceiling fan in the room. An eyewitness account told Daily Sun that some neighbours raised the alarm when they discovered the lifeless body of Mercy lying in a pool of her blood and the body of her lover, dangling from a ceiling fan in their one room apartment. The account further has it that a misunderstanding ensued between the two lovers the previous night at about 11p.m and later resulted into a fight which culminated in the harvest of deaths. Though the account could not say exactly the cause of the misunderstanding, another source close to the lovers told Daily Sun that a few days before the ugly incident, Emmanuel had confided in some of his friends that his woman, Mercy, was giving him a lot of nightmare as a result of her unfaithfulness and randy nature. The highly dependable source said that the late lover boy had complained bitterly that at every slightest opportunity, especially during any festivities, (Christmas, New Year, Easter and then Valentine day) the girlfriend had always made life miserable for him as she has always given one excuse or the other to travel out of the village ostensibly to go and visit the parents at Uyo in Akwa Ibom State. The deceased was said to have disclosed that for the past three years running, he had never spent valentine with her lover, Mercy, as she always gave an excuse that she was traveling to Lagos for a camp meeting of one of the pentecostal churches or going home to see the aged mother. This has kept the guy quite miserable as the lover suspected she kept a secret affair with another lover in Lagos. And as this year’s valentine approached, the late Mercy had, of course, indicated interest to travel as usual for a camp meeting and requested for transport fare, which the guy turned down. This did not go down well with her. Not wanting to be caught unawares this time, the source said, Emmanuel started plotting on how to enjoy his Valentine with another new babe, while Mercy was hustling around to raise money to go o Lagos. The bubble was said to have burst when Mercy got wind that his boyfriend’s new lover had sent a text message notifying him of their pre-valentine dinner meeting at one of the popular joint at Akamkpa town. Mercy on the evening of the arranged dinner, stole into the venue to confirm whether the message was through or false. There, she was shocked to the bone marrow to see his heartthrob having good time with another younger damsel. Disappointed and heartbroken, she went back to the house and started packing her belongings. As she was doing that, her boyfriend strolled in majestically like a king and went straight to bed not caring a hoot about the feelings of Mercy. This, indeed, angered her and she confronted him, and a scuffle ensued. However, the incident has generated a lot of questions from many residents of the area who wondered why the two lovers decided to act out such tragic play barely 24 to Valentine’s Day celebration. They also questioned why the lovers chose Oban as the setting for their version of Romeo and Juliet. Meanwhile, the corpse of Mercy had been deposited at the morgue of General Hospital, Akamkpa while that of his lover, Emmanuel, was later taken to his village for burial after some traditional rites were performed. It was reliably gathered that Mercy Udom is an indigene of Abiakpo Ikot Essien while Emmanuel Udofa hails from Uruk Uso in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area. http://www.sunnewsonline.com/webpages/news/national/2010/feb/23/national-23-02-2010-4.htm |
The wife of the Acting President, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, is angry with the Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Timipre Sylva, for allegedly working against the emergence of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan as acting president. Though Jonathan, in his speech, after the National Assembly’s resolution installing him as the acting president, had said there were neither winners nor losers in his emergence, but facts available to Daily Sun indicated that, Mrs. Jonathan is at loggerheads with those perceived to have worked against her husband’s emergence as acting president. According to sources, Mrs. Jonathan allegedly pointedly accused Sylva, when he paid her a visit at their Akinola Aguda residence, of conniving with those who made efforts to frustrate the moves to make her husband acting president. The sources said Mrs. Jonathan, who refused a gift Sylva brought for her, even mentioned a particular amount Sylva was said to have contributed to the war chest against her husband. Visitors at the residence were said to have been shocked as Mrs. Jonathan launched into a bitter tirade against Sylva, who came with some government functionaries from the state. All efforts by Sylva to explain and exonerate himself from any plot against Jonathan fell on deaf ears as Mrs. Jonathan refused to listen to him, it was gathered. “You know madam has been a staunch supporter of Governor Sylva but during the governor’s last visit, madam accused him of working against her husband. Even the gift the governor brought, she refused it, and accused him of budgeting money to fight her husband.” An impeccable source close to Governor Sylva, who confirmed the story, said it was unfortunate that Mrs. Jonathan would believe mischief makers who had been attempting to cause disharmony between Jonathan and Sylva since the latter became governor of the state. “Everybody knows what Bayelsa is going through financially, where would the governor get money to prosecute an imaginary war?” the source asked. The source said Sylva was unruffled and remained focused in giving his best to Bayelsa as he believed that he would be vindicated at the end of the day. It would be recalled that an aide of Sylva, the Director General of Tourism and Publicity Bureau, Hon. Nathan Egba, had come out to defend Sylva when reports about his alleged involvement in the anti-Jonathan plot filtered out. Egba, who noted that Jonathan and Sylva’s relationship remained cordial, stated that Sylva as a governor had no role in who became acting president. He had said: “People without understanding or taking a situation in their proper perspective begin to insinuate and say things. There is no constitutional role for any governor in the vice president succeeding the president in this country. So, Sylva does not have any such powers and he is not even pretending to have such powers.” http://odili.net/news/source/2010/feb/23/508.html |
Sequel to, "The Last King of Scotland," the 2006 British film that centred on the life and times of late Ugandan President, Idi Amin is to be shot in Nigeria. Add To Favorites Print This Article Post Comment advertisement The movie entitled, "The Insert", a brainchild of an American film company, SASECOM is coming on the heels of plans by the New York film Academy to commence training of Nigerians in various aspects of film making and editing next month. The film Producer, Serge Cassia said yesterday that Nigeria was considered a viable option because of the situation in Congo where the 2006 blockbuster was shot. “Shooting in the Congo, is virtually impossible for security and infrastructure reasons, and as such we are actively looking at other African venue options where government, local business community and local film industry support will come into play and Nigeria rightly fits into that expectation,” Cassia said. Given the consolidation of the A-List Hollywood talent cast associated with SASECOM’s multi-million dollar venture, the Federal Ministry of Information and Communications is to support the move in backing film investments, and as well welcome U.S film experts into Nigeria. Minister of Information and Communications, Prof. Dora Akunyili said, “We will take some proper time to look into various states and regions, to determine which of them offer the best topography to replicate scenes from the Congo and also meet with some State Governors, in order to determine how best to collaborate with their constituents, in preparation of the film”. The minister said that Nigeria’s status and recognition as a place for hosting high profile film productions would be positively promoted through international media and film festival platforms, such as the Cannes Film Festival, Sundance or Berlinale. Meanwhile the New York Film Academy will next month commence the training of Nigerians in various aspects of film making and editing. The Rivers State Government and Niger-Delta Development Commission (NDDC) are expected to facilitate the training of no less than 150 indigenes in the film academy to be located in Abuja and Lagos. http://odili.net/news/source/2010/feb/23/213.html |

Dear Agatha, Let me first of all thank you for your selfless efforts in giving quality advice to people you don’t even know. I am a regular reader of your splendid articles and am convinced you have affected so many lives positively. God will continue to give you the most needed knowledge and wisdom to carry on. I?m a Nigerian living in The Netherlands, have what it takes to get married at this ripe time, but there is something bothering my mind. I would love to marry a Nigerian woman, not a foreigner. I am in love with a Nigerian girl here whom I later discovered has been traumatised. She was a victim of human trafficking, forced into prostitution. I’ve tried to help her come out from her past, but the more I try the more things get worst. From all indications, she?s still dwelling in her past, because most of her attitudes reflect the presence of unsolved psychological problems. My question is this, do you think is possible for her to come out of her past and embrace the present and future? And in your sincere opinion, is it advisable for me to marry an ex-prostitute? Please help me out. Diaspora Nigerian. NB:*this is not woye77's problem but the letter was copied from a Nigerian newspaper* |
it happens all over the western world but people might raise eyebrows in developing countries i.e. Nigeria - so would you allow your guy to smooch you in public?

The members of the household of Mr. Emmanuel Madu of Alhaji Sanni Street in Alhaji Estate area of Meiran were bemused when a gang of robbers stormed their house in the early hours of Wednesday. The robbers did not only dispossess them of their valuables, they also had time to eat, brush their teeth, bathe and watch a movie on Madu’s television. Explaining how the incident happened, Mrs. Madu, said: “It was around 1:00am when I went to switch off the generator. After I had done that, I saw them.” Mrs. Madu said the robbers gained access into the building by damaging part of the burglary proof in the building. She said those that she saw were two even they could be more than that. P.M.NEWS learnt that the robbers who came in a van were so fearless and were not in a hurry. The first thing they did was that they collected the mobile phones of those in the compound. They removed the sim cards in the phones and returned them (the sim cards) to the owners. The robbers who were armed assured the occupants of the house that if they cooperate with them they would not be hurt. They locked up Madu’s family and his tenants inside their room. “They had time to brush, bathe and watch film,” said Mrs. Madu. She was disappointed that the robbers operated for four hours unchecked despite the fact that they had night watchmen in the area. “The night watchmen said they knew something was going on but thought it was not something serious,” Mrs. Madu stated. She added that when the case was reported at Meiran Police Station, the police demanded N 5,000 from them before they could investigate the incident. She said since then there had been no meaningful investigation on the part of the police. http://thepmnews.com/2010/02/19/audacious-robbers-eat-bathe-watch-movie-in-victims%e2%80%99-house |
