How To Save Money As A Digital Nomad In 2023: By Amechi Okoli

So, you’re about to begin your journey as a digital nomad. But wait, traveling is expensive, and so is living in a totally different environment from where you are used to.

It is safe to say that you’ll need a decent amount of money for this, but that doesn’t mean spending all you have, right?

That being said, keep reading this article, as I’ll be giving you practical tips on things that will save you money while travelling and living elsewhere as a digital nomad.

Here’s what we’ll be discussing –

• Cutting travelling costs
• Saving money on accommodation
• Taking advantage of public transportation
• Banking
• Saving money on food
• Working spaces
• Using local SIM cards
• Being modest on recreational activities
• Budgeting
• Final words
• FAQs

1. Cutting travelling costs

Being on the go while working online is what qualifies you to be called a digital nomad. And as you already know, moving from one location to the other costs money.

So how do you save on this? Well, it depends on where you’re traveling to.

If you’re relocating to a town or city within the same country, then you can skip flying and take the train or the bus. It’s true these modes of transportation do not offer the same kind of luxury as a plane, but they can save you a significant amount of money!

If you have a car, then who says you can’t drive to neighboring states. In this case, all you have to pay for is gas, and depending on the distance, motels to pass the night(s).

Now if you plan on exploring another country entirely, then there’s no way you can duck flying. However, you don’t have to book pricey flights.

Just go online, compare prices, and book the cheapest flight you find.

It’s a no-brainer!

2. Saving money on accommodation

So, you’ve gotten to your destination and you need a place to live during your stay. This means you’ll need to find a place that’s conducive enough for you to comfortably do your work and get some well-deserved rest.

If you want to save money on accommodation, then you could try house-sitting!

For those who don’t know, house-sitting simply means living in a person’s house rent-free, but in exchange for doing their house chores (cleaning, watering the plants, feeding the pets, etc.)

Homeowners usually have these kinds of arrangements if they are going to be away for a while, but still want their property and pets to be taken care of.

The good news is, there are so many house-sitting advertisements online (via property rental sites).

An extra tip is to make the arrangements beforehand, just so you can move in immediately you arrive at your destination.

If you are not able to find a place to house-sit, then you’ll have to pay for your accommodation. But you can save money on that too by staying longer.

So how does staying longer help you save money? Well, longer term stays will attract discounts. It’s that simple!

3. Taking advantage of public transportation

While in your new location, you would love to do some sight-seeing and mingle with the locals. You will also need to go out to run some errands like buying groceries or using the ATM machine.

This involves paying transportation fares, and it’s an important area where you need to save money.

Don’t use expensive taxis to get around. Instead, take the bus or train.

Public transportation is far cheaper than cabs, and it also allows you mingle with people!

An extra tip is to buy a bicycle. As long as you’re moving across short distances, then a bicycle will save you money on transportation. It’ll help keep you fit too!

Speaking of short distances and keeping fit, you should consider walking!

4. Banking

If you keep track of all the withdrawal fees you pay in a month, then you’d know it’s a lot.

As a digital nomad, you wouldn’t want to exhaust more than you have to on these charges, so consider this too.

Instead of withdrawing frequently within a single week, why don’t you just make a one-time bulk withdrawal that would last you for the exact same period?

After you’ve figured out how much you will need on a daily basis, you can multiply that by 7 days, then make your week’s withdrawal at once.

This will save you money on withdrawal fees. Although you have to be disciplined enough not to blow all your cash at once!

You can also go online and look for local banks that have the lowest charges. As long as they are efficient, then you can open an account with them.

5. Saving money on food

You have to eat, no matter the country or city you find yourself, and you can save money on feeding too!

If you choose to eat at tourist restaurants, then you’ll have to spend a lot of money. However, eating at local restaurants is far cheaper, and it gives you the chance to try out some local delicacies.

If you’re the type who prefers cooking over eating out, then going to the local markets or farms and buying ingredients in bulk can also save you money.

6. Working spaces

Since you’ll be working remotely, you’ll need a good and fast internet connection. It’s true that you can buy data plans on your own, but there’s something else you can do to save some cash.

Why not take your laptop to a nearby café? Most of them offer free Wi-Fi, and you should take advantage of that.

It's true you have to pay for drinks and food. But here’s the thing, those could serve as breakfast and lunch, which you would have still paid for elsewhere (free internet for you to work is an added bonus).

You can also register with a public library. Here you can use their computers and internet for free, although you won’t find any food or drinks there.

7. Using local SIM cards

You’ll definitely be needing mobile internet so you can work from anywhere you are, and you can save money on this too.

How? By using cheap local SIM cards and topping up your data.

But if you insist on using your old SIM card, then you can get a mobile hotspot.

8. Being modest on recreational activities

Let’s face it, it’s almost impossible to visit a new location and not want to check out the fun places. Surely there are clubs, bars, movie theaters, art galleries, bowling allies and the likes over there, right?

You can’t work yourself to death, and hanging out in fun places can help you ease off. But be warned though, these hangouts cost a lot of money so you need to proceed with caution.

You can try out the local bars for a start. The drinks in these kinds of bars will definitely be cheaper than the ones in high-brow hotels and clubs.

9. Budgeting

Making a budget will help you get a handle on your spending habits. For example, you could use an Excel spreadsheet to keep track of every dollar you spend in a given month, whether it’s on coffee, lunch, transportation, or anything else.

This may seem outlandish and dramatic, but it’s actually quite helpful.

Budgeting also helps in locating places where savings could be made. After spending so much money on booze over the past four weeks, you might rethink your nightly beverage of choice.

This is great for both your well-being and your bank account!

Make a budget for the most you can spend each month, and be sure to check in on it periodically to see if it’s being met.

Final Words

It’s clear that there are numerous cost-effective options for digital nomads. If the tips mentioned in this article are applied properly, then you’ll find yourself saving hundreds (or thousands) of Dollars at the end of each month!

The fact that you can avoid more expensive destinations like Central Europe and North America means that you can afford to travel extensively to places like South East Asia, Eastern Europe, and Latin America.

That being said, I wish you all the best as you begin your journey as a digital nomad.

Thanks for reading!

Travel › Re: Why Invest In Second Citizenship And Real Estate? By Citizenship Bay by XAUBulls: 12:39pm On Jan 30, 2023
Qtsnow:
Why Investing in Second Citizenship and Real Estate? - By Citizenship Bay

Investing in real estate and second citizenship may seem like two completely different topics. But when it comes to financial strategies, they can actually be complementary and mutually beneficial investments.

Whether you’re looking for a way to diversify your portfolio or just a unique sound investment opportunity, investing in real estate and second citizenship could be the perfect option for you. In this article, we will take a look at both of these investments and how they can help you reach your goals.

A need has been created in recent years for governments to partner with trusted and registered companies in a bid to welcome investments from foreign investors in order to boost the economy of their country. In return for the investments, an investor becomes privileged to citizenship and all rights that come with it. Citizenship Bay is at the forefront of this being of one of the few specialized companies around the world to hold licenses from multiple governments and has worked with thousands of investors for the better part of a decade.

If you're thinking about investing in real estate or obtaining second citizenship, there are a few things you should keep in mind. The following outline of the benefits is shared by Zaid Aldayriyeh, Managing Director at Citizenship Bay.

How Does This work?
With a prescribed limit, real estate investments can be made in specific areas of countries like Turkey, Grenada, Dominica, St Lucia, Antigua & Barbuda, Malta, and St Kitts & Nevis. These investments, dependent on the requirement and the rights that each country attaches to such investments, legally confer citizenship status on investors.

Other countries, like Portugal, Greece, Spain, Cyprus & UAE, offer you a temporary or permanent residency known as golden visa as return in investing in real estate within the country.

Investors who choose this opportunity, can enjoy the benefits of visa-free access to over 150 countries including the EU, the UK, and even China and Russia, secure insurance against fiscal, economic, and political changes in the country of origin, and receive better opportunities for tax structuring of tax affairs.

Why real estate?
There are many reasons to invest in real estate. Here are some of the most compelling:

Diversification - By investing in real estate, you can diversify your investment portfolio and hedge against market volatility.
Income potential - Rental income from properties can provide a passive stream of income, while also appreciation over time can provide significant capital gains.
Tax benefits - There are numerous tax benefits associated with owning investment property, including deductions for mortgage interest, property taxes, and more.
Leverage - You can use leverage to purchase more property than you could if you were buying outright, which can amplify your returns on investment.

Why a Second Passport?
A second passport is becoming an increasingly popular option for many people. There are many reasons to invest in a second passport.
It can provide you with greater flexibility when it comes to travel.
A second passport can also offer you increased security. Having a second passport can also come in handy if you need to evacuate your home country in an emergency.
Enjoy global business opportunities.
Access to top-notch healthcare systems and attend schools and universities in Europe and the Caribbean.
Pay minimal taxes on capital gains, wealth and inheritance tax, gifts, and net worth tax.

How to Get One?
Acquiring a second passport has become relatively easy with renowned citizenship agencies like Citizenship Bay at the helm of affairs. With free consultation opportunities, a client-centric approach, in addition to experienced and dedicated teams at their offices in Dubai and Lagos, all it takes is sending a message to them to get you started. They provide you with all information and answers to questions you may have.

Ordinarily, your first step would be choosing an experienced and government authorized firm. Most CBI government units do not deal with the public directly. Hence, they have provided channels of approved agents who handle the entire process for you.

Citizenship Bay's expertise and years of experience, for instance, enables them to take complete control of the whole process for each applicant with next to no inconvenience. So, you bother about nothing, have no stress but still get your passport in as little as 90 days!

Where to begin? Here are some questions you should answer.
Do you have a minimum of $100,000 to invest?
Do you have a clean background and source of funds?
Do you want a solid Plan B for you and your family with incredible global opportunities?

If your answers to all of these is YES or you have questions, Citizenship Bay would like to provide you with a free private consultation. With impeccable track record and nearly 100% success rate, Citizenship Bay offers a money-back guarantee if your application is unsuccessful. Few weeks back, i decided to remove myself from some specific political discussions and engagements. One of the best decision i made in recent times. It was exhausting taking donkeys to the stream, and still forcing them to drink water. Some people are beyond redemption.

But when you look at the recent happening in the Nigeria's political space. It looks like the world is conniving and conspiring to make Asiwaju Tinubu's pathway to Aso Rock an easy one.

From the internal imploding and tumbling; crumpling and crumbling of the PDP, to the Labour party struggling so hard to prove they are something more than a social media political opponent, something more than a regional party, something more than a party pushing through on the bases of religious partitioning and sentimentalism.

The Abeokuta Asiwaju's escalating and de-escalating political tactics. De ja vu! A rinse and repeat, same thing that happened few weeks to the APC presidential primary. It is happening again. But Why Abeokuta again? The home of Obasanjo, Afenifere's Pa. Adebanjo , Osinbajo.
We can all agree all these names aforementioned have one thing in common; The Antagonists.

'The drama at the enemies backyard ' ; A befitting title for the constant emotional outburst by Asiwaju in that same state.

The fuel are now returning all of sudden. DSS are now chasing after filling stations hoarding product. Everybody including the opposition candidates now talking about the effect of the disastrous Godwin Emefiele's mischievously orchestrated CBN policy and its implications. All thanks to that man; Jagaban. That Bola Tinubu effect ! .

Then the biggest sign of them all; Oyetola's mandate was reclaimed. I hate the sudden quietness, Can i hear somebody say 'Tinubu Lule' , once more. LOL. Maybe not in this world.

Zamfara delivered today. The only state in Nigeria with all Former Governors, Fmr. Deputy Governors, Fmr. Party chairmen and chieftains all in one party, APC; United for one man.
From the scene of Jagaban displaying his dance moves to the royal turbaning afterward. It was awesome and significant.

Fellow Nairalanders, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is coming. Que sera sera.
Tinubu and Shettima must organise a series of international media briefings this week to address all the fake news and hate speech circulating online and offline about them if they want to make an impact.

How can Tinubu just unwisely ignore having an international media chat in Lagos and Abuja to rapidly clear up the defamatory and fake stories about him being a drug baron, and other false stories about his life online and offline?
I have been a member of NL for years now and warned that
Tinubu with the aid of his family such as 'Seyi Tinubu should get these peddlers of falsehood arrested and charged to court for defamation, but to no avail. The
Tinubus have been annoyingly very careless with their image by not punishing those spreading the fake news.

Those spreading the fake news for many years now are well-known to even the BBC Disinformation team, so why has Tinubu not got these people arrested by the DSS sting operation and file criminal defamation charges in court against all those dishonest posters on NL, and other online and offline sources?

This is the only way the general public will respect Tinubu even if he doesn't win the presidential election.
Politics › Re: Things Are Falling In Place, Exactly How It Should Be (BATists elọ fi ọkàn balẹ) by XAUBulls:
Sammy07:
Fuel scarcity, prices and economy are affecting his chances
Indeed.

Tinubu has to organise an international press conference to address all the damaging and fake news about him and Kashim
Shettima being a drug baron and terrorist sympathiser circulating online and offline against him. It is very annoying that Tinubu has NOT done that, and then get all those spreading these fake stories from the very dishonest PDP and majorly Obi's LP supporters on NL and elsewhere online generally arrested by the DSS and brought to justice in court for serious acts of defamation.

The young 38-year-old dude, 'Seyi
Tinubu is supposed to be a lawyer and advertising guru, yet he has not deemed it fit to tell his father Tinubu to address the international media in Abuja or Lagos to address all the lies told against him and his father. People think these allegations are true because Tinubu and Shettima have not addressed the Media.

The BBC Disinformation team recently exposed the fake news circulated majorly by dishonest LP supporters even here on NL that Shettima of APC is a BH sponsor.

Using reverse imaging tactics, BBC clearly showed that Kashim Shettima was sitting and eating with Fulani men in the old picture and NOT with BH terrorists as told by these ethnic bigots.

I have been a silent watcher of events and discussions on the 2023 political cycle on NL and truly the opposition propaganda and fake news have damaged Tinubu and APCs image. He should also go for stem cell therapy and he will be strong and okay. It is available now in the Lekki area of Lagos or abroad.

APC ought to have ensured that within 8 years, tougher laws against hate speech and fake news online and offline exist to protect all
Nigerians and non-Nigerians.

Now you can see the damage being done by fake news. Tinubu should clear his image now so that the public can have a better opinion about his entire life history. Period.

[quote author= post=117751876]IPOB/BIAFRA VS TINUBU/YORUBA:
TOLERANCE BECOMING A CRIME.

1. Why do we hate Tinubu?
What for?

2. Tinubu never worked with federal or Eastern Nigeria let alone stealing money from Ndi Igbo.
He never worked as Minister or taken any Federal Appointment!

3. He never joined APGA let alone sabotaging our Party's interest?

4. Tinubu didn't meddle in Igbo internal affairs either!

5. Why do we call him thief?
What did he steal?

6. We call Yoruba "slaves".
We never reflect on what it means to be slaves in the true sense of the word.

7. We are putting mouth in Lagos politics without caution, yet we have a proverb that says it is the foolish housefly that follows the corpse into the grave.

8. Can Yoruba man become an Association or Local Government Chairman in the East? Let us be sincere with ourselves.
Yet, we enjoy all these privileges here including Assembly Membership!

9. Why asking for what we can't give?

10. We are here helping the "slaves" to develop their land. Who then is a slave?
10b. You call their city a no man's land so that we can further be enslaved slaving to develop it, and our generations are wasted gloating over mere privileges.
Who is a slave?
Do we actually think?

11. Can Yoruba tell Okorocha "o to gee" in Owerri?
He doesn't even need it.
He is too intelligent to die for a pot of ofe manu or nothing.

12. After the civil war, for many of us who were old enough to have witnessed it, the Yoruba were the first to open their arms to receive and accept us as we were, crude savages in search for means of survival.
It was regardless of what we equally did to them before and during the civil war. No party to the civil war was innocent!
I also remember not paying any rent among Yoruba guys without a penny for my first 3years in Lagos and another 2 years in Ibadan.

13. Can we survive Yoruba attack in Yoruba land if they actually mean to?
Will an Mbaise man cooperate with the Nsukka or Afikpo, or the Imo with Anambara?

14. If we all decide to relocate at once, Babangida send me home phenomena is still in the memory of some of us who survived the incessant and uncontrollable spate of robbery across the Onitsha bridge.
How many people will want to go in spite of our empty pride?

15. If Yoruba people are as foolish as we foolishly think, why agitating?
How will agitating be to our benefit?

16. Why not "O to gee" in Abia, Enugu or Owerri?

17. Can a man from Aba become a Commissioner or Perm.Sec. in Enugu State Civil Service?
Yet it happened here!
Why not be careful.

18. We adopted APGA and but "wisely" voted PDP.
How was Tinubu our headache.
Was he the cause of our downfall?
Why always blame others for our inabilities and want to take glory for any small thing we think we have done well and even overblow it?

19. We claim we were so creative during the civil war.
Now history.
We also claim every made in Nigeria is from Aba.
But go to Oyo and Osogbo to see what "lazy" mechanics are doing quietly in the automobile industry, yet we make noise that other ethnics are either mumu or lazy except we (alagbara ma mero baba ole; the most hardworking humans who cannot develop their own land unfortunately).

20. Why looking for avoidable problem? Why?

21. It was you in the North being attacked, in Malaysia being killed, in Gabon and Ghana being molested. 99.9% of Nigerians killed in South Africa are of Igbo extraction, and sometimes by fellow 'hardworking' Igbo. Why?

22. We choose Kanu and he dictates to us without consultation with any one of us. They choose Tinubu who becomes a hero among them by bowing to or adopting the choice of their majority.

Why are we angry?
We chose Azikwe and they chose Awolowo.
How are they more mumuish followers than ourselves?
Zik became a President and we gained from it, Awo was only a Premier, but we are only struggling to beat their records in all ramifications including education till today.
How are they mumus?
We chose APGA and they chose APC, why agitating?

Yoruba are yet to say Tinubu is their problem why do we want to die for nothing?
Why working in APGA but planning to collect salaries in APC?

If your Biafra comes, but do we still remember that as Igbo we will automatically become foreigners on the streets of the Lagos we call a no Man's land?

How many of us will actually want to relocate home, should Biafra actualises or if citizenship is on the condition that you relinquish all other citizenship in Africa?

We leave that answer to the individual.
Nwayo nwayo biko unu.

https://dailytrust.com/lagos-was-bankrupt-when-tinubu-took-over-in-1999-sanwo-olu
True that. Lagos State (and Nigeria) was ruined by years of bad Military rule from the Babangida SAP era in terms of decayed Federal infrasructure and much more.

From 1999, the IGR was creatively increased from few millions to billions of Naira by the then
Governor Bola Tinubu and his dynamic team of administrative experts and Lagos State was then rebuilt gradually by AD, AC, ACN and now APC. More still has to be done because of the huge pressures on urban infrastructure by the constant migration of the jobless from other states to Lagos (and Abuja, Kano, PH in Rivers, etc).

Two weeks ago he called me and said he was ready and I directed him to instaforex office to open an account. He went there and deposited $150 and was given a bonus of $150...making the account $300.
I gave me the password while I was at the airport getting ready to board a flight to Abuja.
I started managing the account and we went down to $150 I went to his client cabinet and took his last bonus of $45
And had $180.
From here within a week I took the account to $1900 and we asked for withdrawal which instaforex said they were processing.
We waited for two days and nothing .
So I started trading again and took the account to $3603 and we asked for withdrawal again.
This time again we were waiting for two days before we visited thier office in ajah.
We were told the whole money belongs to instaforex as the rep in Russia used a clause in thier terms and conditions to try to take the funds...we protested when the amount available for withdrawal is $3420 so why tell me its not my money when your computer nrecords says its my money.
So people into forex should stay clear of instaforex... They have ruined my week so I ve converted the money there as a demo account in a live account to practice with...
Scam is instaforex... Instaforex is scam

True. Nigerians are taking a big risk by focusing on Tinubu, Obi and even Atiku. None of them has what it takes to be a good president.
Indeed.

New militant group, ‘Force of Egbesu’ emerges in N’Delta; threatens 2023 elections

Threatens to disrupt Feb polls
Sends strong messages to President Buhari, N-Delta gov

By Chancel Sunday, BOMADI

A new militant group, The Force of Egbesu, has surfaced in the creeks of the Niger Delta with stern warnings to President Muhammadu Buhari and state governors to do the needful for the wellbeing of the oil-rich region, or else hell will be let loose during the February general elections in the region.
In an electronic mail and video released weekend, the leader of the group, who identified himself as General Gbolodi, lamented the abandonment meted out to him and his group since 2010 by political leaders on one hand, and the utter neglect of the oil-rich Bashan Clan in the creeks of Niger Delta on the other hand.

The statement reads in part: “I am calling on the PDP and APC leaders who do not want development in the region to quickly make amends, else it will be too late. I want to particularly call on political leaders of PDP and APC in Bayelsa State, that Bashan Clan is blessed with crude oil with no meaningful development, it remains in shanties.
They failed in all their promises made to us, I have worked for both the PDP and APC in the state with failed promises; failed promises to me, failure promises to my area.

“I’m issuing this message to President Buhari and Gov. Douye Diri, that if you know what to do to remedy the injustices done us and our oil-rich land, then come to us for dialogue. But if you are reluctant to do the needful, I’m coming for you, there shall be no elections in Bashan Clan and other areas in February.

“We are waiting diligently for your understanding, we are waiting for your response to our grievances, that is, the utter neglect and abandonment meted out as punishment to us and the area.

Every Egyptian owes $3,697
Every Ghanaian owes $2,071
Every South African owes $4,804
Every Zimbabwean owes $11,929
Every American owes $88,697 grin
Every Japanese owes $103,386 cool cool cool

A twitter follower of Aisha Yesufu has chided her for dancing and vibing to music at the Labour Party rally while wearing her Hijab.

The follower suggested that Aisha should have removed the hijab before doing such while considering other women who adorn the outfit.

Aisha responded to the follower claiming she is only answerable in that regards to her creator.

Aisha Yesufu dancing at Labour Party Rally.
Muslim women are NOT permited worldwide to shake hands with men, adding of funky beats to Islamic music, or even dance in a hijab shaking and wriggling her body like that.

Aisha is from Auchi in Edo NOT Hausa, so she gets away with these things. Lol.
