Afonja2: ‘Obidients’ Is One Of The Most Repulsive, Off-Putting Concoctions I Ever Encountered In Political Arena –Soyinka
Nobel Laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka has said the recent attacks against him justify his earlier position that the Labour Party was taking the direction of fascism.
In a statement issued on Friday titled, ‘Fascism On Course’, Soyinka said the “seeds of seeds of incipient fascism in the political arena have evidently matured”.
Musician, Femi Kuti had expressed his dislike for the use of the word ‘Obidients’ to describe the followers of Peter Obi of the Labour Party.
Soyinka said it “is one of the most repulsive, off-putting concoctions I ever encountered in any political arena”.
Soyinka had criticised an attempt made by the vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Datti Baba-Ahmed to dictate to the Supreme Court regarding the party’s suit challenging the presidential election is unacceptable.
Soyinka during an interview on Arise TV on Wednesday condemned Baba-Ahmed’s statement in an interview in which he said the judgement of the Supreme Court must favour his party.
Baba-Ahmed during an interview on Channels TV on Thursday, March 23, 2023, said Section 134 of the constitution stipulates that the winner of the presidential election must score the highest number of votes and at least 25 per cent each in two-thirds of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
Baba-Ahmed also argued that the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, who was declared as the ‘President-elect’ did not satisfy the requirement to be declared ‘President-elect,’ stating categorically that there was no president-elect for Nigeria yet because the declared failed to get 25 per cent of the votes in the FCT.
When asked what part of Baba-Ahmed’s statement was unbecoming, Soyinka said, “Nearly the totality, listen, the interviewer asked him several times; he said ‘what will you do if the Supreme Court judgement is against you, if the interpretation which you are offering about the constitutional aspect of this election, if it is against that of the Supreme Court.’”
In his statement on Friday, Soyinka said, “It would appear that a record discharge of toxic sludge from our notorious smut factory is currently clogging the streets and sewers of the Republic of Liars. It goes to prove the point that provoked the avalanche EXACTLY! “
According to the literary icon, “A climate of fear is being generated.”
He continued, “The refusal to entertain corrective criticism, even differing perspectives of the same position has become a badge of honour and certificate of commitment. What is at stake, ultimately is – Truth, and at a most elementary level of social regulation: when you are party to a conflict, you do not attempt to intimidate the arbiter, attempt to dictate the outcome, or impugn, without credible cause, his or her neutrality even before hearing has commenced. That is a ground rule of just proceeding. Short of this, Truth remains permanently elusive.
“The ensuing cacophony has been truly bewildering. It strikes me as a possible ploy to smother recent provocations by other, far more trenchant issues, such as revelations of declarations of a religious war. If so, let it be known that I have long declared war against religious fundamentalism, the nature of which justifies the butchery, kidnapping and enslavement of students in the name of religion. “That aspirant’s alleged gaffe cuts no ice with me. Far more alarming was the grotesque fantasy of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court disguised as a wheelchair, zooming off in space to a secret meeting with other parties of the conflict.
“On its own, that is sufficiently scary. Swiftly followed thereafter by a television tirade of intimidation, it strikes one as more than the mere antics by the mentally deranged. The tactics are familiar: ridicule, incriminate, then intimidate. Objective: undermine the structure of justice.
“Just as a reminder: this writer was not being rhetorical when he declared, on exiting prison detention: Justice is the first condition of humanity.
“The instigating contest – Nigerian Democracy 2023 - has witnessed much that is innovative – largely in the retrogressive vein. Violence and ethnic profiling. “Spiritual” warfare in the shape of sacrificial rams to keep “disloyal” communites under restraint – in short, intimidation yet again! “Easily overlooked however are those missives of violence directed against dissenting voices, real or suspect. Such, for instance, were the virulent attacks and threats to the musician Seun Kuti, his family and iconic music Shrine. His crime consisted of nothing more than declaring the name “Obidient” derogatory to his sense of civic dignity and activist history. Such beginnings – and instances are numerous - have culminated in the open intimidation of the Court of Last Resort, even before proceedings have begun.
“By the way, I do agree with Seun Kuti; ‘Obidients’ is one of the most repulsive, off-putting concoctions I ever encountered in any political arena. Some love it however, and this is what freedom is about. Choice. Taste. Free emotions.
“By contrast, I have no quarrel with “Yes Daddy”. Roman Catholics are used to saying “Yes, Father”. Secularists say “Enh, Baba”. The context and content are what matters, and lies – where established - raise bothersome issues such as Integrity Deficiency.
“Let us remind ourselves of the following: in any adjudication, society finds it unacceptable that a party to the dispute resort to influencing tactics by extra-judicial means – such as bribery. Intimidation and threats are merely the obverse complements of material inducement. Those who fail to appreciate this are entirely free to their existence in an illusory world.”

Sewgon79: I will repost this again so that Yoruba can know where the Ibo/Igbo are coming from: 🦉
IGBO INFERIORITY COMPLEX Our Elders talk about the man who was in search of trouble. He has been looking for trouble all over the village but couldn't find any So the elders of the village directed him to the house of the village pauper, the poorest man in the village. They told him to go and carry his lone fowl, the very one he has been nursing for several months and keeping for the next New Yam festival. So he went to the man's house and when the man wasn't looking,he picked the fowl and bolted with it. NOBODY knew peace in the whole village as a consequence of that action. The trouble and noise became so much that the whole village went in search of the man who carried the fowl of the pauper. Infact the man who was looking for trouble had to rush there with the fowl, panting he dropped it and left. Before he left he asked the man " What is it gan sef, just an ordinary ONE FOWL?" Since that time our Elders have had the saying: “The man who steals the fowl of the village pauper has activated the same man who will talk him to devil!” Why am I saying all these? You people need to understand the Igbos, we really need to understand wherefrom they came and what has added to make them what they are today. The Igbo people [ of the HINTERLANDS, TODAYS today's SE ] are a people who suddenly, belatedly, came into contact with civilization at a time that most other people had gone very far.
And they came with their very CUNNING INSTINCTS. Do you know that from my friend's mother, I have always heard that the ANIOMA people of Asaba, Ibusa, Ogwashikwu etc dealt with the Igbos of the hinterland with EXTREME CAUTION AND DISTRUST? A story is told that when the Asaba man had cause to cross the River Nigeria into Obosi, today's Anambra State, he would go round the entire length of his village to announce to his kinsmen that he was crossing the River Niger into Obosi. It was because they NEVER TRUSTED the Obosi people of Anambra. The Igbos of the hinterlands are people troubled by INFERIORITY COMPLEX and this worries them every minute of their lives and association with other people. It is the problem they have had in Nigeria. They have a mindset that you must accept that they DOMINATE YOU otherwise, where you don't allow them, it will appear to them that you have cheated them because they were Igbos [ from the bush ]. They are awed by your complex and advanced social order which they lack. They know it is way ahead of theirs but this angers them again. It eats them up as though it was your fault that you both grew up under different settings.
As the typical sufferer of inferiority complex the typical Igbo doesn't want to respect your own peculiar culture but he wants to let you know that his own culture is better than yours and he actually wants you to subscribe to his culture. He wants his culture and way of life to rub off on you and probably subsumes yours. It is a problem of inferiority complex. The igbos [ of the HINTERLANDS, today's SE ] NEVER had anything like monarchies. No, they didn't have. The Asaba and other Ika Igbo tribes had but not those of today's SE IGBOS. Monarchy - Igwe, Eze etc are very recent creations of the Europeans in Igbo land. They never had it. And it troubles them too. Have you noticed that in nearly all Igbo communities and towns, you can hardly find a man who goes by the title " Eze whatever II of Amawbia" or " Okwadike Gburugburu III of Nnewi" ? Very rare, if you ever find at all. Everybody gets his title as NUMBER 1 Examples: Eze Nwafor Ndiorioma I of Nnobi Igwe Okwadike Gburugburu I of Ogunnabali Gbogbotigbo I of Awka. Eze Ndigbo Ogbuefi I of Lagos. Sopuro Ngwo Warawara I of Kano You just go an verify. Anything that is Number 2 is a matter of psychological pain for the typical Igbo man. It is infact the reason many of them are breaking their necks around the world for money, just to be RICHER THAN THEIR NEIGHBOURS, just so they can be identified as the Richest man in the community.
As far as the typical Igbo man is concerned - ANAMBRA IN PARTICULAR - MONEY answers all questions so they believe that MONEY is what all sensible persons must first get before CHARACTER. It is the reason the Igbo man can't understand why all the Yorubas of Lagos can't oblige them by quitting Lagos and walking into Atlantic ocean when they, the Igbos, have all the money to buy all of them poor people. The typical igbo man usually confuses RICHES WITH WEALTH.
His inferiority complex doesn't allow him to comprehend the fact that a man can be without money but exceedingly wealthy and can infact command such respect and recognition than the man with all the money. It is the reason why the igbo man won't understand why a Professor Wole Soyinka will be talking about giving a reward of $1,000 in the same country where Chris Uba can conjure N10 Billion for same purpose yet you people don't listen to Chris Uba the way you listen to Soyinka. The typical Igbo man doesn't understand that kind of setting and it hurts him. To him it is discrimination. In Igbo land the man with the MONEY MUST BE THE TALKER, AUTHOR AND FINISHER OF ALL DECISIONS. It is still the same problem - inferiority complex.
This is what you see when a Giringory Obi, a man who got a F9 GCE DEGREE from Night School, couldnt get NE and NW crucial votes, came distant 3rd, doesn't agree he lost on 25th February 2023. He cant understand how a Yoruba man can be ahead of him. Till this day, the Igbos haven't forgiven Prof. Soyinka for beating Prof. Achebe to the Nobel Literature Prize. They take it very seriously. It is an ETHNIC issue for them. Whereas Achebe wrote Things Fall Apart - a very excellent story - you still won't compare his workd to the many works of Soyinka. The igbos will never agree. It always have to be about and for the Igbo man.
The Nigerian structure that can be acceptable to the typical Igbo man is one where the Igbo man is on top of every single sphere in Nigeria's Government at the Federal and state level. Give them that and you become the Friend of Ndigbo - A good detribalized Nigerian. This is the mindset of the typical Igbo people - the WANNABE ZIONISTS. A very funny people. Anytime and everywhere you find some of them wannabe Zionists misbehaving just remember this post.
Thank you. © Adedamola Adetayo 06 April 2023 |

Jakpon: The truth is that a large percentage of the so called obidients are IPOB miscreants who had been trained by Nnamdi kanu to be abusive, vile, uncouth and asinine
You need to read the disparaging comments they wrote about Pastor Adeboye and RCCG simply because the respected man of God, out of divine wisdom, did not use the pulpit to promote the candidacy of Peter Obi as other pastors did.
See the poster below me refering to Professor Wole Soyinka as a man with words but no action. This is the same Wole Soyinka, a Yoruba man, who spent eighteen months in prison during the civil war because of his involvement in the Biafra cause. Meanwhile their own Biafra leaders like Ojukwu, Achebe, Azikiwe etc, were all hiding from one under ground bunker to another until Ojukwu cowardly ran away to Abidjan.
Former President Obasanjo whom they now regard as an hero because of his hypocritical and self serving stance in supporting Peter Obi's presidency, succeeded late Benjamin Adekunle(Black Scorpin) as the C.O of the 3rd Marine Commando Division. This is the Division that finished off their fathers during the war.
Today this headless mob who have gotten their heads buried deep inside Peter Obi's rectum, see Obasanjo as a friend while Soyinka is a villian. |

APC will be naive to give Senate Presidency to SS or SE. It is either NW or NC.
If the SE or SS want it they should have worked very hard for it during the Presidential elections. Politics is different from governance. Politics is about winning elections but governance is about service delivery. You need to win elections first before you get mandate to serve and deliver service.
NW gave the highest votes while NC gave 4 out of 6 states to Asiwaju. Rewarding NW or NC with Senate Presidency is a big statement that loyalty pays. You do not empower those who are not loyal to you and your party .
PMB learnt a bitter lesson with Emefiele who is a PDP guy and almost singlehandedly made APC lose the Presidential election. check my signature for free stuffs! |

Capitalresource: As someone who loves to enjoy life and have a good time, I can tell you that the answer is clear: being driven is the way to go.
Sure, driving can be fun sometimes. There's something exhilarating about being in control of a powerful machine, cruising down the open road and blasting your favorite tunes on your stereo. But let's be real, how often does that actually happen? More often than not, driving is a stressful, time-consuming hassle that leaves you feeling drained and stressed out.
Being driven, on the other hand, is pure luxury. You get to sit back, relax, and let someone else do all the work. No more traffic jams, no more searching for parking spots, no more road rage. Instead, you can use that time to catch up on emails, read a book, or just take a nap. Plus, if you're lucky, your driver might even offer you a complimentary bottle of water or a snack.
Of course, there are some downsides to being driven. For one thing, it can be expensive. Hiring a private driver or using ride-sharing services can really add up over time. And if you're someone who likes to be in control, it can be hard to relinquish that power to someone else.
But for me, the convenience and comfort of being driven far outweigh the costs. I'd much rather arrive at my destination feeling relaxed and refreshed than stressed out and frazzled. Plus, if I'm being honest, I kind of like feeling like a VIP when I'm being chauffeured around town.
So, to wrap it up, if you're someone who values convenience, comfort, and a little bit of luxury, being driven is definitely the way to go. Just sit back, relax, and let someone else do the driving. Being driven is a NO contest. As long as my chauffeur is well paid, mentally alert and has good defensive driving skills, we are good to go. |

This must NEVER be tolerated again by bringing the incidious fake news propagators to justice. Meanwhile, over the years, many market fires have occured in the North and Iboland, and the Onitsha Main Market got viciously burned again just 3 weeks ago. So, market fires can be caused by: 1. Poor electric wiring in markets. 2. Power surges. 3. Traders sleeping in their shops at night with candles, and even cook in those shops. 4. Badly stored generator fuel, and generator fire like what happened recently at Balogun Market, where the generator sets where being operated from the Penthouse of the market complex where the fire started and spread rapidly according to the official report of the Lagos State Fire Service boss and eye witnesses, etc. |

DaveHarry: India is set to overtake China to become the most populous country in the world by the middle of this year, data released by the United Nations shows.
India's population is expected to reach 1.4286 billion - 2.9 million more than its neighbour on 1.4257 billion.
The Asian nations have accounted for more than a third of the global population for over 70 years.
China's birth rate has plunged recently with its population shrinking last year for the first time since 1961.
India's population forecast provided in the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) State of World Population report is an estimate since there has been no census in the country since 2011.
After 140 years of uninterrupted census every 10 years, the 2021 census was cancelled because of Covid and postponed to 2022. Now it has been pushed back again to 2024.
In an interview, the UN's Chief of Population Estimates and Projection, Patrick Gerland, says that any numbers about India's real population size are "naïve assumptions based on fragmental information".
"We don't have real official data coming out from India," he says.
Also, the UN says their estimate does not include the population of China's two Special Administrative Regions - Hong Kong and Macau, which together have more than 8 million people - or the island of Taiwan, which Beijing sees as a breakaway province to be unified with the mainland one day. Taiwan sees itself as distinct from the Chinese mainland, with its own constitution and democratically-elected leaders.
In November, the global population crossed 8 billion. But experts say growth is not as rapid as it used to be and is now at its slowest rate since 1950. Both India and China have seen declines in their fertility rates. This means in China, the population will start declining next year, despite the country abandoning its one-child policy in 2016 and introducing incentives for couples to have two or more children.
Soaring living costs and the growing number of women joining the workforce are among other factors being blamed for the slowdown in China.
In India, too, fertility rates have fallen substantially in recent decades from 5.7 births per woman in 1950 to 2.2 births per woman today. A survey commissioned by the UNFPA had a majority of Indians saying their population was too large and fertility rates too high. Almost two in three respondents identified economic issues as top concerns when thinking about population growth.
Demographers, however, say India's population overtaking China's shouldn't be seen as a matter of concern and caution against giving into anxieties over the rising numbers.
"Instead, they should be seen as a symbol of progress, development, and aspirations if individual rights and choices are being upheld," the UN report says. That is huge. |

The World Poverty Clock (WPC) said this in its recent update, considering the COVID-19 pandemic economic effect.
