Anambra election: Counting is ongoing

Ozioma Ubabukoh, Awka
Counting is ongoing in most of the polling booths and from our correspondent’s observation, the Peoples Democratic Party is leading.
The PDP and All Progressives Grand Alliance dominate the ballot papers, while supporters of the All Progressives Congress are still in shock.

If this result pattern remains till the end, I foresee a run off election. None of the candidates of the APC, APGA and PDP has pulled away in a wide margin. It is still pretty close!

The permutation should now switch to bargaining other smaller groups should there be a run off. Ifeanyi Ubah could hold the ace and since he is a GEJ boy, he might sell his support to PDP. We shall wait and see.

phildon: 1. You may say I am childish but the world knows that Buhari did not spare anybody in his fight against corruption even Bakinzuo(former Gov of Kano State) and his kinsman Umaru Dikko.
The world knows he spares his kinsmen all the time. Buhari has always been selective in favour of his fulani kinsmen. He is a grand-defender of the fulani interest and that is what he cares about. Why did Ekwueme, a Vice President in the democratic government he sacked deserved to be remanded in kirikiri while the President and Commander-in-Chief of that regime - Shehu Shagari was given house arrest? If that was in the past, how about his recent comments on national security matters especially on the Boko Haram which he failed to help nip in the bud despite enjoying goodwill and acceptance of the sect but would later defend when the government clamped down on them? How about the Ombastse vs Police issue in Nassarawa that escalated and claimed the lives of many fulani herdsmen for whom Buhari promptly rose in defence calling for heavy punishment for the Ombatses? Never mind he never said anything on the age-long Fulani siege on the Plateau and Southern Kaduna villages! Buhari has never cut that national leadership image despite all the image laundering and propaganda.

When people lose elections in other climes, they stop politicking and join hands with the victor to bring development to the people in various ways. An elder statesman like Buhari would have staked his reputation to address the issue of Boko Haram. Instead, he would make comments on baboon and blood, not minding that similar comments have led to blood letting and massacre of innocent minds. How is that for the intelligence of someone who wants to lead a nation? Someone who cannot be careful in his choice of words and would always be supposedly misquoted and misunderstood on very sensitive issues of religion and national security? What does that tell you about his IQ?

phildon: 3. Buhari may not have the absolute power in democracy but he will NEVER encourage corruption the way PDP is doing. From Ibori, Alams, Tony Anenih, Obj...The list is endless. In your church mind, you know it that Buhari will never allow such calamities.
4. Finally, if you are to choose btw Buhari-led party and GEJ-led party, which one will u go for? With reason pls.
How has Buhari stopped corruption in his APC now? Has he told Tinubu, Achike Udenwa and George Akume to return their loots to Lagos, Imo and Benue States? Has he condemned Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly - Adeyemi Ikuforiji who has stolen Lagos blind and now standing trial? Has he ever raised alarm on the inflated contracts being awarded by APC Governors? Has he not been gallivanting around with these folks now?

I will prefer Jonathan over Buhari anyday. Jonathan is the present and Buhari belongs to the past and everything that is wrong with Nigeria!!
PoliticsRe: Crisis May End Pdp’s Reign - Oyinlola by Xfactoria: 3:16am On Nov 14, 2013
phildon: Ode, they are not the same. APC has GMB who will stand firm against corruption unlike the way PDP is strongly encouraging corruption as evidenced in Stellah Oduah, Mrs Madueke etc. You and I know it that GMB will not take those nonsense from anybody! That alone is enough difference.
Childish talk! When were you born? Even in GMB's military regime, he was not the "no nonsense" guy. Late Idiagbon was! Buhari was a weakling who could not do anything to offend the northern oligarchy when any of them flouted the rules. Just google the story of 53 suitcases and educate yourself.

Even if you attribute that regime's anti-corruption record to him, Nigeria of today has moved beyond kangaroo courts or military tribunals pronouncing judgements without proper investigations or fair hairing to the accused. You can't fight corruption with fiat these days. You have to prove your case in court.

Lastly, it is an illusion to think one man in the midst of rogues will stop them from their evils. How will Buhari convict Tinubu, Adeyemi ikuforiji, Achike Udenwa, George Akume, Femi Fani-Kayode who enriched themselves with public office. Fighting corruption effectively requires the resolve of each and every Nigerians. Buhari can't do sh*t!!!

Christianity EtcRe: Why Does God Allow Satan To Influence Mankind? by Xfactoria: 4:29pm On Nov 11, 2013
Well... to everyone questioning the existence of God, I think you should have your head checked. Why would anyone believe science which says that everything in the world came about by chance/mistake/big bang. Which of the scientists who made the guess witnessed the big bang? How come they are now correct? What caused big bang? How come evolution stopped at man? Where does the wind come from? I don't necessarily think science is wrong in describing to us what happened during creation but I think they just stubbornly fail to acknowledge that the orderliness and complexity of creation is by a grand design of a supernatural force which is God.

I'm not a christian today because I understand every rationale behind what God does. I am a christian and believer in the existence of God because when I look around me to observe his creatures, they amaze me. They are so orderly, perfect and purposeful and I'm convinced that it must have taken a supernatural being whose wisdom transcends ours. The truth is, if you agree that the world and the wisdom of creation are the works of God, then no man should be able to explain God through and through with his own wisdom. I don't think that supernatural being is a linear logical thinker like men that he created. Even science cannot exhaustively explain nature; the creatures of God, let alone come close to disprove God.

The bible says in Romans 11 vs 33: "O for the depth of riches, both of the wisdom and knowledge of God. How unsearchable are His judgments, His ways are past finding out". So if you would only believe God exists when you find somebody to answer all your questions, then goodluck to you.

or How PDP Alao-Akala spent all the state money sponsoring NURTW thugs and buying bleaching creams

Or How Daniels plunged Ogun State into debt while doing nothing
Very funny!!! While I cannot hold brief for Oyinlola and Akala, how can you say Gbenga Daniel did nothing? Were you born and alive during the National Sports Festival hosted by that administration in Ogun State? Do you know he constructed three additional stadia that are still functional till today? How about the games village and various infrastructure upgrade for the sports festival?

I am confused cheesy cheesy cheesy
I am Yoruba and I do not support APC. Many of my family members and yoruba friends do not support APC. We do not support PDP either. We gave up on Nigeria when APC emerged and dashed our high hopes for a functionally and ideologically oriented opposition

tayooluwole: we re nt supportin APC cos some of d founders are yorubas bt cos we re enjoyin their administratn...they re realy trying in sspeeding up development in d respective state under their control....u can also support APGA if u know they re performing well...okhuh
!

Mr Man, speak for yourself. I am not enjoying APC and its propaganda. The guy who is governing my state was a PDP convert to APC and his thugs are already running riots preparing him for second term while he continues to plunge the state into huge debt. I am talking of Ogun State by the way. Many naive observers quickly point to road construction as a yardstick that this guy is working. Of course, the easiest way to steal money is to embark on massive road construction because it is alright for an APC government to tar 1 km of road with N8bn. Even when there are few road projects that would win accolades, they have to go into the town centers to create one big project (like dualizing an existing road even when the road is still functional and not seriously congested in peak periods), demolish houses, arrange bogous compensation and doing all that with debt capital.

And for anyone who will want to disagree with my views here, please don't bother mention road projects as a yardstick because even the dumbest Governor in Nigeria knows that it is the most potent tool for embezzlement.

jjcbuthot: He made that statement from the facts available to him and I belief him. It is not impossible that Abacha was using some people to still money but the Abacha I know didn't even travel out of the country throughout his stay in power and everyday we keep hearing Abacha's money here and there - was Abacha the one taking this money out by himself and signing papers with the banks where money was kept? People might be stealling on his behalf anyway.

Buhari gave conditions to Abacha before joining the government as PTF chairman - that Abacha will not intervene with his operations. Abacha honored this - if you tell Buhari that Abacha was a looter, he has every reason to think otherwise.

If Abacha was looting, there was no way Major Almustafa would not have been involved in such stealling directly or indirectly. And no way Almustafa himself wont have stolen. Tell me if any case of stealling has been levelled against Almustafa? Has GEJ not arranged the release of the same Almustafa even for the killing of Kudirat?

Keep deceiving yourself and believing only in what gives you short term joy but destructive to your future.

Flat heads and their wayward reasoning to justify hatred.
I just pity some of the people who paid for you guys to go to school. Abacha never traveled out so he couldn't have stolen money? What a shallow mind you folks are? Wasn't Mohammed Abacha, the de facto "second in command" travelling? How about his wife? How about his whole family? When IBB stole, did he appear in every location where his loots were kept? So some very nice ghosts were stealing and starching loots away not in their own names but in Abacha's?

And who told you Al Mustapha had no loot to his name? How did he fund the building of a mosque in prison? How many errand boy looters of those days have cases been established against? Does that mean they didn't steal?

Well, goodluck to all of you who who have decided to join the camp of vampires and blood sucking monster called Buhari. One thing I know for sure is that as far as Nigeria is concerned, Buhari is history!!!! If you don't like that, just commit suicide quietly.

No one is taking the shine off these guys. If they can play at the level they did at an average age of 21 yrs in Nigeria (just guessing), then that is a huge progress for Nigerian football. Before now, we have been presenting 30+ years old as 17 years but these present corp of U-17 players are truly young even though we know that they might be a few years (and by few I mean 2 - 4 years) past 17. You obviously don't know how the MRI scan works! It doesn't measure true age per se. It measures bone development as a proxy for age. And because these guys in Africa don't develop at the same pace as Europeans for dietary reasons, they would probably still pass the MRI equivalent of a European 17 years old at say 19-23 years.

However, this team is the youngest U-17 team I have witnessed Nigeria present at any tournament and I have been watching since Scotland 1989.

AutosRe: Is A Used Car Mileage Of 170,000 From Cotonou A Good One? by Xfactoria: 10:58pm On Nov 01, 2013
saintjoel: I happen to be a licensed custom agent at seme border and I've always bought cars for my customers from cotonou. Many of them have used these cars for years with no issues and they left cotonou with high mileages.

The simple way of calculating mileage when buying a tokunbo car is illustrated below-

Let's assume a car was manufactured in 2002,we assume at the end of the year, the mileage will be 15,000k for car and 20,000 for SUVs.

2002-2013 is 11 years, which means if we multiply 15000 and 11,we have 165,000KM for a light user, while 170-200K will be for heavy users. You can also use the same formula for SUVs.

The reason why you buy 02 cars with mileages like 65K is just becos car dealers know that buyers are so fixated on the mileage issh, once the mileage is low, they hardly give thoughts to any other issue.

Cars dealers from cotonou don't tamper with their cars unless a frudulent Nigerian is involved, that's why most customers feel secure when buying from cotonou,if anything is missing from your car or it has been tampered with, the best thing to do is hold your agent and demand for explanations.
Good advice about how to figure out if the mileage of the tokunbo car could be true. Its funny how some Nigerians expect to get a less than 100k mileage on cars older than 6 years! An average driver in the US do an average of about 10-20k per year as this poster rightly suggested! But I will like to add a caveat, if the car was used in Benin or Nigeria, don't bother put your money on it even if its less than 100k mileage.

Like the quoted poster above mentioned, most dealers sending cars from the US have had to tamper with their mileage sometimes even though the car was in great condition because Nigerian buyers are often fixated on mileage when all they should care about is the maintenance history and the working condition. The OP should get the VIN of the car and get help from certain threads here on nairaland offering to assist people check car maintenance history. I currently drive a 1997 190k mileage car bought in the US (i live in the US) and have added 5k mileage in the last 6 months with no hassles. All its maintenance records were available and I checked them before the purchase.

smartchoice: Tell us MORE about the SINCERITY OF THE PDP.
Leave PDP alone! We all know their woes. What the OP is pointing out is that people should not be so desperate to the extent of settling for just anything in the name of kicking out PDP. Our desperation for democracy landed us PDP in 1999 and we are stuck with it till date. At that time, we could have demanded political associations based on ideology and value propositions to the Nigerian people. We just wanted anything but the military and hence PDP. We should open our eyes and demand the real thing now. The current PDP woes present the best opportunity for change but the APC as constituted cannot provide that change because they are not different. Just check their make-up:

- Achike Udenwa (8yrs as PDP Governor of Imo, now a "progressive"wink
- Tom Ikimi (One of the anti June 12 figures who has suddenly turned "progressive"wink
- El-Rufai and Femi Fani-Kayode(Both of them are ranting because they lost patronage after OBJ left office. They are now "progressives"wink
- Rochas Okorocha (Formerly of PDP, lost at several attempts at the Presidency, sacked for fraud by the OBJ regime. Now a "progressive"wink
- Adamu Aliero (Former Governor of Kebbi under ANPP, cross carpeted to PDP, worked for Yar'Adua's government. Didn't get patronage from GEJ and now back to CPC cum APC as a "Progressive"wink
- George Akume (8yrs as PDP Governor of Benue. Lost out in the power game for control of PDP machinery in his state after he left office. Now in APC to fight back as a "progressive"wink
- Governor Ibikunle Amosu (4yrs as PDP Senator of Ogun Central Senatorial District. Defected to ANPP to contest 2007 guber. Attempted to match the then incumbent governor in thuggery but eventually lost. Defected again to APC to contest the guber in 2011 and won. Now a "progressive" governor)

...the list is endless bro!

From what we have seen of APC so far, they are just desperate to get power. They do not have any unique change proposition. They are a bunch of angry and disgruntled losers. Nigerians should demand more than APC!!!!

What is the correlation between this and the topic in question? What point are you trying to make?
SportsRe: Nigeria U17 Coach Replies Iran Age-cheating Claim by Xfactoria: 10:11pm On Oct 30, 2013
Dee60: No. It does not. If you go by this, African countries may never win the World Cup. If at 25 years you are still playing in U-17 then by the time you get to the senior team you would be 34 years or so!
Ok, look at it this way. How many European players play beyond 35yrs? Do you know most African players play well beyond their true 40th birthday (about 32-35 years football age)??

Remember Roger Miller at USA '94 was 44 years old (football age). Do you know Okocha, Aghahowa, Taribo West all played well beyond their true 40th birthday? Only a few Europeans can do that!
SportsRe: Nigeria U17 Coach Replies Iran Age-cheating Claim by Xfactoria: 5:52pm On Oct 30, 2013
Our boys are not over-aged if they passed the MRI test.

What many people failed to consider is the fact that when FIFA started competitions in the age group and they were considering age caps, they only considered the development of a European 17yrs, 20yrs and 23yrs olds. People in other continents especially Africa develop at different pace compared to the Europeans. It might take an African boy 20 -25 years to attain the same level of development as a European 17 years old. Take poultry birds as case study, can you compare broilers with the West African specie of chickens? Do they develop at the same pace even if you feed them on the same diet? If no, then think genetic factors!

This argument has been made several times to explain why many true 17yrs old African cannot compete with 17yrs old Europeans. FIFA later recognized this and resorted to using the MRI to gauge what human growth and development would be an equivalent of a European 17yrs old in other continents which to me is a fair comparison because of genetic factors that impact growth. So it is no longer about the true biological age of the players, it is about comparable state of growth and development.

I hope this clears the air.
