"Our problem most of the time is priority; an average Nigerian can spend N1m on burial but to spend N200,000 on education (is a problem), because of wrong priority. On a yearly basis, we have N1.5trn that Nigerians spend to overseas universities, so people thrive on it. Nigerians spend N463bn a month on recharge cards, how much are they paying for schools fees? So it’s all a matter of priority. This is the largest market for telephone in the world. Now, to pay N500,000, some people have only one son, they have huge business and houses all over the places, they will never pay it.” So disappointing to hear a respected man of God utter this myopic statement! Who are the average Nigerians that are worth more than N1m? Or have the means to mobilize N1m for whatever purpose? Lets even exaggerate and say there are 100,000 people in every state and the FCT who are worth more than N1m, that makes the total of millionaires in Nigeria equal 3,700,000. Nigeria's population is conservatively 150 million, which makes 3,700,000 equal 0.25% of the population who are millionaires. So when did 0.25% of a population become the average population? A man like Oyedepo opened his mouth "gadagba" and say an average Nigerian cannot pay school fees of N200,000 because they can't get their priority right? So these 0.25% now represents the average Nigerian? Can someone pls show the man of God some mind boggling statistics of poverty in Nigeria? Does he even know than more than 60% of the people live in abject poverty? Obviously the man of God has a warped view of the economic situations of Nigerians. No wonder the guy was buying jets here and there! Does he know how many businesses would have sprung up if their promoters can just mobilize as "little" as N1m and put into the business? Well, that is what happens when people get too rich and comfortable. They forget quickly how hard it is for people down there. I remember how the son of a Senator could not believe I maintained myself with N3,500 per month while in the university (in 2004/2005) because he gets N10,000 per week and it was hardly enough for him. He said education is not cheap. Yes, we agree but that statement is tale my moonlight and in fact bull-shit! When the missionaries that brought christianity to Nigeria brought free education and community health services with it as evangelical tools, was it cheap then? Those missionaries did not buy aeroplanes, cars, bicycles, chariots, horses and all but funded all their philanthropism from tithes and offerings from their parent churches in the West. If christianity cannot be for charity as christ commanded, it is then a business. Pastor Oyedepo is in church business. |
ramzylipi: Ta!!! Don't start giving us bobo here jare, se we resemble small pikin, how many mins will it take to forge things like ds when you have your money. Abi se u think say we be mumu ni.... GerraoutYes, you be mumu!!! You people are so mean sha! Haba! If you allege she forged birth certificate, did she also forge the international passport that was issued in 2009 (five years ago)? Did she know she would be crowned MBGN in 2014 as to have forged her age in a birth certificate and international passport in 2009? My advice to the girl is to just ignore you mofos here. She doesn't have to prove anything to all ye haters!!! |
Check out Liberians belief too. Liberians should be isolated from the world right away! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XasTcDsDfMg |
TS2: This just crowns it. Politicians in this country are all the same. They are not driven by any ideologies, values, thought, dogma, philosophy, belief or line. If Ribadu had anything driving him crosscarpetting would not be the solution to the problem. Instead, he would stay in the party where there are commons visions and ideals and strategise on how to get it right and win power. How do you explain him teaming up with rogue Tinubu in APC, someone he once vouched to send to jail while EFCC Chairman? You think like this because you are a learner when it comes to Nigeria politics. Those who know the game know that party affiliation does not matter much in determining your performance or perception. PDP is not the problem with our politics. The problem is our entire political class. If Ribadu listens to people like you, it is his loss! |
Good development! As a governor in PDP, Ribadu will be in a good stead to take over from GEJ in 2019! |
Setting Fayose up for failure because if he reverses the creation of the LGs, the beneficiaries will rise against him. The economics of it doesn't make sense. Those 19 additional LGs are going to start building secretariats and generating overheads. |
gboss4sure: If Nigeria has lost the fight against boko haram by now, bombs will be going off in every part of Nigeria... That USA lost its fight against terrorist in Afghanistan doesn't mean Nigeria has lost against boko haramDon't mind the mofos! Have they (America) won the fight against Chicago gang violence in their backyard that claims lives almost on a daily basis? Have they (America) won the fight against indiscriminate shootings and gun violence in all of America? Pot calling kettle black! Arrant nonsense!!! |
earthgreeners: See better country...Our own mr clueless woulda been busy pointing fingers at oppositionSo who is not clueless? Was it Paul Biya that led their army in the operations? Is it Jonathan that would lead a rescue operation here? There are several factors that could make Cameroonian army more efficient that their Nigerian counterpart when dealing with BH. One of them is absolute patriotism in which case none of the cameroonian soldier would leak intelligence to the insurgents unlike in Nigeria where they have informants and sympathizers in the intelligence agencies. You cannot blame a President for that. |
goksongold: That's what corruption has led nigeria into, despite the fact that the money n resources r thre, we r still lacking in all areas, ShameCameroonians are even more corrupt than Nigerians. |
soright4life: This is a slap on Nigeria defence, what they can't do in months, Cameroon did it in days.Probably because the cameroonian army doesn't have sympathizers of Boko Haram in their ranks who will leak intelligence to BH! |
OkparaJesus: As moreSpeak for yourself dude! His death doesn't make me happy. We are losing well schooled kids who can help change things in the north in the future. Forget about your dislike for his father (I also do not like his father's political leanings of late). Hamza is innocent and didn't choose to be born by mallam or a former minister the same way none of us chose our parents. |
kayciano: JUDGING d current nature of this car and ABUJA WAYS....A lot of these rich kids in Abuja like stunt driving! Sometime ago, they even organized stunts on major roads in Abuja and people would come and watch them. Besides, what was he doing on the road at 5:30am? Well, so sorry for his dad. May his soul rest in peace. |

I suspect Atiku. Datz all! |
I am suspecting Atiku. Buhari is the only person that stands as a stumbling block to him clinching the APC presidential ticket. Knowing how desperate Turaki is.........well this is my suspicion and I may be wrong. |
Chienyego: but they praised jonathan when he deployed those soldiers during the edo state election which oshiobaba eventually won. they didn't see it as a crime then. they called it a "victory for democracy" because they won that state.Don't mind them! They know what they are driving at. Aregbesola is a grandmaster of thugs. His boys in Osun State are called "State Boys" and a lot of them are jobless folks he pays salaries and use for his dirty jobs. It was among these guys they sent thugs to Anambra and Ekiti and of course, a sizeable number of them were caught and could not carry out their plans which is to discredit election results from the stronghold of the opposing candidates. Fayemi won Ekiti because results from Segun Oni's stronghold in Ido-Osi were discredited by thugs and were cancelled. Oyinlola also lost because the tribunal and appeal court also cancelled election results from his stronghold because Aregbe's boys marred them. Intelligence report from Osun State alone where the Governor has asked electorates to carry charms and knives is enough to warrant soldiers deployment. Aregbesola is not a gentleman at all! |
barcanista: Jimi Agbaje on PDPs platform has the relative credibility to gv APC a good fight. However, let's analyse other determinants in Next Year's election:While the bolded is true, you failed to consider that Bode George is also desperate to prove a point to Tinubu and Lagos APC. If that would require that he mellows down and accept a candidate with goodwill like Agbaje, do you think he would be stupid not to consider doing that? People's priority changes with time and I know that the time spent in prison would have dawned some new realities on Bode George. In this sort of game, it would pay a Bode George to compromise his hard stance or crave for control and use Agbaje to get rid of Tinubu's boys. I am sure that all that Bode George wants right now is to revenge his being sent to prison through the influence of Tinubu and possibly get his chance to condemn them to prison too. So don't be surprised if he works fine with Agbaje. |
Omisore argued with some incontrovertible facts.....Osun election is going to be interesting! |
barcanista: I like Jimi too. I expected him to run in 2011. He wl face a lot in PDP. Bode George is one man that wl want to foist his loyalist using his might. Jimi should consider LP seriouslyHow are you sure it is not Bode George that went to woe him to PDP? Jimi Agbaje is not a daunce. He would have had some assurances before he took this step. |
Unconfirmed report reaching me says Jimi Agbaje has declared for PDP and would be contesting the lagos gubernatorial election on its platform. This should make all APC goons shit in their pants because the guy presents a very good alternative to those tired of Tinubu. |
emeka94: Most stupid resolution the confab has made second only to the incredulous idea of rotation of presidency. Are these people blind or just plain selfish and greedy. Resources is scarce and corruption is thriving more than oil yet you still want to create more states. USA that's as large as what I don't know has only 50 states. By the way Nigerian govt claim to be copying America's style of federal governance. Creation of addition states will only make the center stronger, the states lazier, fragmentation of Nigeria and break up of ethnic groups and families. Of what is the reason behind dis creation of states?!! I can only see selfish reasons and selfish reason and selfish reasons. If 36 isn't working how will 54 work? Give LGAs autonomy, reduce the powers of federal and state govt and create city councils not states. please!!!. City councils will ensure the participation of ordinary men in governance, men that I can see and touch not governors that drive up and down in latest SUVs causing accidents and traffic jam. Tufiakwa. God save Nigeria from this old men and women.God bless you my brother! I had this same argument with people on my facebook page about the stupidity of additional state creation. I noted that the only time in the history of Nigeria that there was accelerated development was when we had regions and the local government councils were strong in pre-civil war Nigeria. This recommendation is being driven by ego and pride and the economics of it just doesn't make sense. The cost of governance will increase (as if our democracy is not already expensive) and government revenue shared among states and local governments will end up being used to service 18 new rogues, sorry governors and their endless lists of special advisers and PAs. Think of their security votes which would amount to 9 billion monthly (assuming 500 million per state). Think of the new sets of official cars that will be bought and maintained. Think of the 18 new governor's lodges, 18 new state secretariats, commissioners etc. Think of new sets of legislators at the state and federal level ( 54 new Senators assuming 3 per state, 162 new house of reps members assuming 9 per state). The list is endless of the teething problems that will put real development on hold. If anyone wants to know how stupid and senseless it is to be creating states without thinking it through, check how these states are faring since they were created - Ekiti, Osun, Ebonyi, Nassarawa and Kebbi. These states can barely pay workers' salaries and the ones controlled by APC are borrowing money to finance projects because their allocation leaves nothing when politicians pay themselves and workers. Ever heard of states being insolvent? There are many in Nigeria today that are on the brink of bankruptcy. In business, companies merge or acquire each other when some of them become insolvent. That sort of consolidation is what should be taking place in Nigeria and not creating more mushroom states. Ekiti should by now be negotiating merger with Ondo State etc. This crap is like a thousand steps backward! |
Vivalavida99: See how Nigerians keep showing themselves for all the wrong reason, after you guys will be complaining how the world is against you.How about the fact that this crime is thriving on the greed of western citizens? How on earth would a sane person take a loan to finance upfront payment for lottery proceeds processing? Would they have been given the loan if they didn't lie to the bank themselves? It takes two to tango! But you see that this article deliberately refrained from dwelling on the folly of the victims as if "Fizzy" forced their hands. |
I don't blame the current generation of Bini people. Solomon Akenzua caused all this problem! I mean the current Oba of Bini who invented the story that even his father didn't tell the British. The Bini version of Oduduwa surfaced in history for the first time in "Your Obedient Servant" an autobiography written by Solomon Akenzua, the current Oba of Bini. Before him, and when he must still be a child, Jacob Egharevba, a Bini historian of the colonial era had researched and written the Bini's history and had acknowledged as well that Oba of Bini's head were buried in Ife in pre-colonial times. When it was time to form the Western Region of which Bini was then a part (before the post independence creation of the Midwest Region), the British invited all monarchs in the Western Region, including the Oba of Bini and it was decided based on historical facts made available to them independently by both Ife and Bini that Ife was the spiritual capital of both and therefore the Ooni of Ife was appointed the permanent Governor General of the region (head of state, in similar capacity as the Queen of England). The Oba of Bini at the time (Solomon Akenzua's father) did not object and instead accepted his rightful place as junior to the throne of the Ooni of Ife. So from time, there had been no dispute as to the relationship between Ife and Bini until Solomon Akenzua ascended his father's throne and started to re-write history. If we must argue superiority, the Ife has all the facts to lay claim to it. Apart from Oranmiyan establishing the Oba dynasty in Bini, the Ife Arts predate the Bini's as a matter of fact. There are archeological proofs of this. However, my guess is that the relationship between Ife and Bini must have predated the Oduduwa/Oranmiyan/Iweka era in the Ife-Bini history. If the Bini empire in its military might and fearfulness as widely described didn't expand westward into the Yoruba domain or even administer any of the Yoruba towns or territories before and after Oduduwa even emerged in Yoruba history, then what stopped them at the time? Weren't the Ogisos, the king of the sky, powerful enough to surmount Ife? Why did the Obas boycott Yorubaland in their occupation of Dahomey and other regions far west of Bini? Apart from feeding off the weakness of the Oyo empire at the time the Bini soldiers got to Eko (Lagos) to establish a camp by usurping the Aworis and administering their farmland (now Lagos Island) and establishing a dynasty there, there are no accounts of history that the Binis ruled over Yorubaland. There has always been a mutual respect and understanding between these two empires that need further research. |
shymexx: The bold had me laughing. I had a discussion with my pops a few weeks ago about the Sudan thing, and he was just laughing his ar.se off. Ijebu's came from Ife, but I believe the progenitors left before Oduduwa. Hence it seems the Ijebu crown isn't an Oduduwa crown. However, history can't be denied.God bless your Dad! I once wrote an account of the Ijebu history that my father researched. The Ijebus are from the same source as Ugbo, the ilaje waterside island in Ondo State. There is something derogatory about their history that they refused to acknowledge that source. Saying they came from Wadai, Sudan makes them feel cool but it is false! |
ichidodo: Since the deseaced was strangled we bet the perpetrators left a lot of DnA and fingerprints at the scene,if only the police had a good forensic unit the acquitted wouldnt have suffered this much.... You must think the perpetrators were amateurs! I recall the FG brought in MI5 to unravel the mystery and they found nothing! |
Tinubu was never a suspect. Obanikoro and PDP candidates were the suspect. May God save you from dumbness cos it won;t be nice to join ur ancestors this way.
Obanikoro could not have killed Funsho williams because he was brought into PDP by Williams to be his running mate. Obanikoro only became a contender for the guber seat after Williams was murdered. Those who point accusing fingers at Tinubu knows what they are saying. These guys live their lives by what their marabouts tell them. I understand that Tinubu was shown a picture of how prominent he could be post-Lagos governorship and that only one man stands between him and that reality - Funsho Williams. And come to think of it, Funsho Williams was governor in waiting at the time. Almost everyone knew that he was going to get to Alausa until he was murdered. If Funsho Williams had been governor, there would be no Fashola, there would be no ACN, APC, Governor Aregbesola and the entire Tinubu empire. Tinubu's political career would have been over and he would probably be in jail by now. With the benefit of hindsight and looking at the way the Lagos State government quickly stuck it on PDP and named a road after him, Tinubu was the biggest beneficiary of Williams's death. These acquitted guys are Tinubu's fall guys! But God will grant them the real justice they deserve for the wasted 8 years of their lives! |
Z8: To me Enyeama saved a lot of definite goals. But how he handled that goal was a clear mistake. He should have punched it not. It wasn't a clearance it was like he just tapped it.Enyeama should not have gone for the cross but the guy was trying to help the team desperately because he knew that Nigerian players suck when they are standing on both feets. Every set piece is a potential goal against Nigeria. Time and time again in that match, Nigerian players struggle to deal with free-kicks and corners floated into the box. I guess Enyeama just had enough and decided to go for every ball out of frustration. |
Unacceptable! They must find them o.....haba! Is Jack Bauer not an American again ![]() |
ba7man: That means he's highly unstable. No it means you are confused and the joke is on you!!!! |
I thought they said Jonathan is clueless? Is it not a contradiction that a clueless man can do all these things? Meanwhile, of all the allegations, the Tambuwal episode should never generate any news in any society where no one is above the law. What if a search is conducted on Speaker's convoy? What is the big deal? How does that constitute harassment? And Punch is insinuating that the search was a payback for Tambuwal speaking against corruption - seriously? The same Tambuwal who as principal officer of the house connived with Dimeji Bankole to illegally increase legislators' allowances? While I do not support breach of fundamental rights/freedom of association, there is no need to start screaming blue murder. The affected persons should just take their case to court and seek redress. Lastly, when will the punch write an editorial about Amaechi's dictatorial tendencies in Rivers State especially regarding the appointment of a state chief judge? |
TheShopKeeper: It's a case similar to when people voted for GEJ and not PDPNo, actually it is because the people can't see the difference between APC and PDP so they voted for their preferred personality. If you disagree, just reel out the difference between APC and PDP. |
I predicted from the outset that APC will implode in Ogun State. Amosun and Osoba are two egocentric people that can never get along. Besides, Amosun is, and has always been a fraud. No one knows till today how a supposed former auditor with Arthur Andersen suddenly became one of the state's richest men in his 40s as at 2003. Akintola Williams has been an auditor almost all his life and cannot boast of the wealth this guy possesses before he became governor. Lastly, while in Ogun State Poly, Amosun was a well known frat boy. |
