#10 1962: Wilt Scores 100 Points After setting an NBA record of 78 points in a game earlier on in the season, Wilt Chamberlain broke the mark on March 2nd, 1962 tallying a scoring total of 100 points against the New York Knicks. #9 1969: Boston Wins Its 11th Title In 13 Years Concluding a true sports legacy, the Boston Celtics wound up winning the 1969 NBA Finals in seven games over the Los Angeles Lakers. The big win gave the team, and then player- coach Bill Russell, one last title to make up 11 NBA championships in just 13 years. #8 1970: Mr. Clutch Sinks A 60-Footer In Game 3 of the 1970 Finals, Lakers point guard Jerry West showed why he deserved the nickname "Mr. Clutch" as he buried a 60- foot, game-winning shot at the buzzer. West continued on a prolific career that eventually led his shadow to become a part of the NBA's iconic logo. #7 1980: Magic At The Center Of The NBA Finals After Kareem Abdul-Jabbar took a major hit with an ankle injury in Game 6 of the 1980 NBA Finals, 20-year-old, 6'8" point guard Magic Johnson was asked to fill in at center for the Lakers as they were in desperate need of a big man. 42 points later, Johnson had helped crown Los Angeles as NBA champions. #6 1988: Jordan, Wilkins And The Dunk Title While the Slam Dunk contest has become more about theatrics than athletic tricks, the 1988 competition during the All-Star Game weekend pushed the abilities of Michael Jordan and Dominique Wilkins who engaged in a constant battle. The dunk-off however was soon decided and by an iconic slam from the free-throw line that almost everyone recognises. #5 1996: Bulls Set Record 70th Win A feat that still stands today, the Chicago Bulls passed the 70 win mark during the 1995-96 regular season, going on to a 72-10 record which still stands as the best in NBA history. With a core starting five that included Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman, the Bulls formed one of the best lineups to ever take the court. #4 1998: Jordan And "The Shot" With the Bulls trailing in Game 6 of the 1998 NBA Finals, Michael Jordan stripped the ball from the Utah before delivering one of the greatest crossovers the NBA has ever seen to hit a game-winning three with 5.2 seconds left. The shot secured the championship and showed that even with a severe flu, Jordan could still be legendary. #3 2002: The Mailman Delivers 34,000 Points In a 90-78 win over the Chicago Bulls at the Delta Center, Utah's Karl Malone became the second player in the NBA history to score 34,000 points. To date the only player close to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's mark of 38,387 points is "The Mailman" himself as he went on to finish with 36,374. #2 2002: Lakers Grab Their Third NBA Title With a 113-107 victory over the New Jersey Nets, the duo of Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal won their third consecutive NBA title while the Lakers became the fifth team to accomplish the feat. With the victory, coach Phil Jackson also tied Red Auerbach's Hall-Of-Fame mark of nine titles. #1 2007: No. 8 Warriors Upset The Mavericks In a battle between speed and height, the Golden State Warriors upset the Dallas Mavericks 4-3 in the first round of the 2007 playoffs, marking the third time a #8 seed had beaten a #1 seed. It was also a first in a seven-game-series that just so happened to be against a Mavericks team that won 67 games that season. dailypix.me/sports/the-most-iconic-moments-in-nba-history?pid=88735&utm_source=mylikes&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=ml&utm_term=24160352&page=10&v=zcvYqeOAql45uX6JX-xM5cHrUVpjPobD7SfXGiy_0KFJ6JUuEW4KFm8HuGYaNBF4bdpU2K8BSGV3vqUt8wsVaQ |
I noticed basketball doesn't get the attention it deserves on Nairaland, obviously because Nigerians are not that into basketball (or so I think). I'm taking it upon myself to bring you all the latest basketball (mostly NBA) gist, from the greatest games ever to the greatest moments. I hope you all drop comments and make it fun! Meanwhile you can rep your team and tell us what you like about them Here is mine, I used to be a die hard LA Lakers fan, but since the Lakers decline I've been more of a Black Mamba fan (Kobe). I'm beginning to have a thing for the Miami Heat though. The King (Lebron) is my favourite player at the moment, their counter attacking play (victor ikbeba on would say 'canta attack' lol) reminds me of the Magic johnson era.. Let's hear yours

I read a topic with lots of responses here about sleep paralysis, it has happened to me a lot of times and I thought it was a kind of 'demonic oppression', then I changed my view to the scientific explanation involving disrupted REM sleep. Two similar experiences which I will discuss here have changed my view yet again of sleep paralysis. One night I slept off while watching a movie with my sister, at a point I 'woke' up to the familiar feeling of sleep paralysis, I could see and hear my sister and the movie she was watching, i tried my best to call her but I couldn't. After a while she looked at me then walked over and tapped me, I felt 'freed'. When I got up, I asked her why she tapped me, she said I was grunting heavily in my sleep, I asked if my eyes where closed and she said yes. The second experience was almost the same, the only difference was the person involved in the waking. My explanation of sleep paralysis is that it occurs when the spirit leaves the body (similar to dreaming), and returns when the body is yet to wake up (notice that you always wake up at the end of a dream), at this point there is a kind of 'disconnect' between the body and the spirit. Many people who experience sleep paralysis can actually see what's happening around them, but do not know that their eyes are physically closed. During sleep paralysis, you sometimes hear strange sounds, see strange objects, or feel a 'presence', these disappear immediately you are fully awake. This is because they come from another 'dimension' that only your spirit can perceive. Sleep paralysis is usually very scary because it is like being trapped between the physical and the spiritual realm. I 'believe' with learning to control your mind (similar to meditation) you can actually control your spirit during sleep paralysis. My views are totally from experience so I have no scientific evidence to prove them, people who have experienced sleep paralysis will understand them better. I'd like to hear your views on this

Women fall in love by what they hear. Men fall in love by what they see. that's why most of the women put make up and most of the men lie. |

Pope Benedict just left vatican city for Castel Gandolfo (a summer house). The pope stood for a few minutes on his way out the door to acknowledge cheers from onlookers while each of the cardinals took turns to kneel in front of him in reverence, after which he was ushered into one of cars in a waiting convoy and joined by one of the cardinals. The convoy drove straight to a helipad where a helicopter was waiting to transport the pope to his summer residence at Castel Gandolfo. He will henceforth be refered to as pope emeritus. The best way to reduce the amount of foreign exchange spent on the importation of rice is to produce it locally (international standard)... I'm still trying to understand why Nigeria still imports rice when it can be cultivated in the northern states |
