A criminal offence must be proved beyond any reasonable doubt. If there is any shred of doubt, it is resolved in favour of the accused! Charging to court is easy. You must have water-tight evidence to obtain conviction in criminal law.

Look at this case scenario. The AGF charges Saraki and Ahmed to court with concocted evidence. Court declines to convict them. They in turn sue the federal government for criminal libel. The consequences are dire.

A woman has landed in prison after assaulting her husband's mistress. It was gathered the woman who is five months pregnant was convicted and jailed for two years after hitting her husband's side chic with a sandals in Ghana.

According to a Ghanaian journalist identified as Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng, the woman's husband brought his girlfriend to their house and allegedly gave her his wife's cloth to put on. The scorned wife who was shocked by that act - confronted the lady and attacked her with a sandals.

Because of the assault, the woman was sent to prison despite her pregnant condition.

I encountered this beautiful young lady at the Nsawam Female Prison last week. She has been convicted for 2 years with a 5 months old pregnancy, and came into the prison with her one and a half year old son. Her offence? She couldn't believe what was unfolding in her eyes and could not contain the humiliation. She confronted the lady and a fight ensued. Shouldn't pregnant women be given suspended sentences instead? I simply don't understand why the Criminal Offences Act 1960 which obviously needs a review after so many years of usage continue to dictate the pace. We are all not safe!

A 3-month-old baby boy whose mother, Aisha Yau, attempted to kill, by placing under the wheels of a trailer so he could be crushed, has been rescued by Kaduna state government.

According to TheNation, Kaduna State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hafsat Muhammed, rescued the baby from Aisha.

Aisha, who stays under the popular Kawo bridge, was said to have purposely kept the baby under a trailer’s wheel with the expectation that when the trailer moves, it will crush him.

To ensure that that was done, she stood aloof and prevented people from carrying the baby while persuading the driver of the truck to start the engine.

But unfortunately for her and fortunately for the infant, a passerby quickly drew the attention of the commissioner to the scene. But the lady, Aisha said, she could not explain how she found herself in Kaduna. .

She hinted that it was the crisis in her state, Taraba, that scattered her family members without a trace of any of them, more than a year ago.

“One of my suitors in Kasuwan Baici here in Kaduna, got me pregnant but he denied the pregnancy and refused to take care of me and the baby. So, I want to kill the baby to save myself from shame”, she said.

Speaking with newsmen, the commissioner said she has directed social department in her ministry to take Aisha to the hospital for medical examination and treatment before repatriating her and her child to Taraba State.
