Sell the house and use the fund to develop a business or build another house in his fist son's name. Father's brothers and extended family are always entitled. Whatever you do for them is nothing so far as you are ahead of them. They would always be jealous and gang up. I can relate! |

YoshihideSuga: India, China and Japan are largely homogeneous countries, so the citizens have the country at heart. Divide Nigeria today and Igbos will return enmass to contribute to Biafra, while Yorubas to Oduduwa and the rest. Nigeria is too ethnically diverse and judging from the history, it makes no sense for an Igbo person to pay allegiance to Nigeria. I specified Igbos because they form almost half of immigrants from Nigeria and the history between Igbos and Nigeria.
Since the current elites have second citizenship, who is going to abolish it? Certainly not those elites. My brother, ethnically, these countries are much more diverse than NIgeria. I have been to India and China, but not Japan. The diversity in China is very much. Tibet, Korea people (until recently), Mao tribe, Yi, Lisu, Hui, etc - about 56 major tribes and motley of minorities. For India, there are many more tribes than in China. The caste system there is well known. Bangladesh and Pakistan were excised along religious lines for peace. I would say, Nigeria's major issue is religion. Another is 3 major tribes. If major tribes were many, it would lead to healthy rivalry and coalition. The rivalry here is destructive. Peaceful dissolution of the Union is an option. But is that achievable? If you go to war, the rule is u must win the war to be recognized as a separate entity. That was why Biafra failed in 1970. Yes, the elites cannot put in place a law against themselves. Only a revolution can. It will come one day. Mark this article. |

BreconHills: I dont know that one can say the government is not bothered about youth. There have been a lot of programs specifically earmarked for youth across several administrations. Whether they have been well run is another thing.
Japa is a global phenomenon. Post Brexit the UK has lost many doctors and nurses to the US and Australia. The world is flat talent wise and people will move. Not everyone moving out of Nigeria is poor and desperate. A large number are from big 4 consulting firms, also people in good mid tier jobs. Global job fluidity is a thing in itself. Having a poor economy doesn't help and the idea of doing for the kids is a powerful one. In my job partnering with top 4 consulting firms the intra project turn over is massive which has helped people like me who are stayers to become a stabilising force on projects.
I honestly think the real cost and gains of japa both to the economy and the family as a social structure will show up over the next 5-10 years and then we will all be able to assess it better. Well, you are right to some extent. Government programs for youths are full of insincerity. Mostly coming during electioneering and not as a proactive growth measure. Where they are well-meaning, beneficiaries are either thugs of ruling party or cronies and wards of the big shots. It never gets to a random youth. While a tidy percentage of those leaving the country are not certifiably poor, the massive brain drain is not going to help the country develop. Three quarters of my university graduating class and most of them brightest of the bright are in different countries and not only that, citizens of these countries to boot. They are as Nigerian as we define them. Basically, they are non-Nigerians, because I know a few of them working in Nigeria now as expatriates. Most of the political class and their immediate families have dual citizenship. And you wonder why they rule the way they do. Borrowing money to fund irrelevancies. In effect that is what you get when foreigners are running your economy. I call them foreigners because they are indeed foreigners, owning properties abroad and with near zero allegiance to Nigeria. The situation is not an ideal one. Japa is not helping and cannot help a developing country like Nigeria unless it is a coordinated policy. China was developed when they adopted the Sea-turtle scheme, in which top graduates of Chinese universities were sent to understudy the developed economies and lured with mouthwatering incentives to come back to China and develop it. Emperor Hiro Hito of Japan adopted a similar tactics to turn his country from third world to a first world. India today is such that they classify their citizenship broadly. You have NRI (Non-Resident Indians) and the RI (Resident Indians.) Their rights and privileges as spelt out in the constitution are not the same. And they do not entertain dual citizenship. You are either Indian or nothing else. You can't be US citizen and Indian at same time. Most Indians I know prefer to study abroad and come back to their country to develop indigenous technologies. |

While the government has zero plans for the youths, yahoo yahoo and other fraud ventures are a matter of choice. It's propelled by get-rich-quick syndrome and greed. We should not hide under Government failure to justify the unacceptable. Some youths still make it out there without fraud.
The government is not bothered about development of the country or about the youths. The youths are good enough as thugs and nothing more. So I fail to capture how their japa affects an insensitive idoncare govt. The elite get to power to share our commonwealth, not to develop anybody or anything. |

obaidan: It's not too early, in naija politics, the earlier you start checkmating your enemy, the better for you. Almost 6 or 7 commissioners have resigned now(more to come) plus 27 lawmakers, ALL loyal to Wike and you still think the Governor has time to start learning and studying and moving slowly. ....Commissioner of FINANCE, JUSTICE, works, Transport all loyal to Wike...common man, weytin remain for government....impeachment moves already made, when do u want him to start acting, when he has been removed finally. don't be so sure he has not learned the ropes, Because he is quiet or not glamorous. His moves in the last 2 weeks show he knows how to use the instrument of power to his advantage. He may appear to be doing what is morally wrong, but he is doing what is right, legally speaking and that's all that matter. Besides that, the people u surround yourself with in times of political crisis really matter. So far he seems to have sound legal advice and guidance. Amaechi no do reach this before Wike carpet am. Don't underestimate any Governor of Rivers State. The money(that is not passing through the books) available to them to play with is hugeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. There's a reason the next thing on their mind after completing 2 terms is always to go and buy the whole delegate of 36 states and naija voters to become president..... From Odili to Amaehi to Wike. And of course political games in naija is just money, buy all d friends of ur enemy, pay someone to damage ur enemy. I didnt mean he fold his hands and allow himself be booted out. He should have pretended to satisfy Wike's terms until Supreme Court solidifies his position and he is in grasp of vital political tools. |

Do you know what it means for another man to dictate to a governor on what to do and what not to do. Fubara reacted at the right time. If he has not, Wike would have put him into impeachable mess he couldn't handle I am NOT justifying Wike. Wike is wrong. But the system is skewed from day one, why pretend it was perfect. Fubara would not near that position if the stakes were not tilted in his favour. He was a beneficiary. He should have emerged through a foolproof process to demand rights. However, I am only concerned with the timing of his emancipation. Let's watch. It's a 50-50 case scenario. |

GreatOchuks: You actually think Tinubu is a dummy or toy that Wike can press his button and be pushing around.
You think they haven't done the maths and seen that Rivers State votes wasn't needed in the first place and Wike rigged stupidly beyond his quota thereby painting the whole results in a negative light ... All Tinubu needs is get high votes from South west and the North ,, then assist Obi to continue splitting PDPs votes in the South South and South East ,,,, then wait for confused people to start shouting "rigging and INEC" when it's clear that their splitting of votes is an indirect vote to Tinubu Why was Wike rewarded with FCT Minister? 1. They recognized his input 2. They wanted him to replicate his Rivers magic in the all-important FCT in the event of a rerun. Rivers state fund played a prominent part in the election and reelection of Buhari. Wike cant be remoting Tinubu around. It's all about interest. Fubara is an enemy to Tibubu. Wike would be codedly assisted to neutralize him. Watch. |

Neduzze5: The same calculative Ebola might decide to wait it out to see who wins in this battle of wits between these two sons of Rivers State.
An incumbent governor who controls the state machinery will always have more loyalists than a former governor.
The case of Amaechi Vs Wike is still very fresh in our minds. BAT will see a PDP Fubara as an opponent. The only thing Wike needs to do is just to convince him that Rivers state was needed in 2027 calculation and Fubara would prove disloyal. Federal might is an advantage. We don't have institutions for now. |

Leave diplomacy out. Exercise your power fully let ur enemy know u are out for the kill. That is the only way to win in naija politics. Ambode dey calculate dey do am small small e chop am for leg, Ladoja dey use diplomacy play d game with adedibu e backfire. What I meant by too early is 1. He was Wike's beneficiary 2. WhereMyLoud: You dey report Tinubu to himself. Is that not what he did in Lagos till date even ass he is president? Him intervening will be like a kettle calling pot black meanwhile they sit on the same fire.
Clark asking why he wants to keep his structure if he is not contesting 2027 is childish. Does the world end in 2027? He can choose to run at a later year. The same way his new godfather did all these year that even lagosians believe he made them.
Wike is a power drunk idiot and may meet his Waterloo soon if he continues to step on toes. He is indeed just one man in the cabinet and if he seems to want to bring problem to Tinubu, I'm sure he wont think twice to let him off the cabinet.
Just like the coconut forehead Adamu Garba has said, that the president should be mindful of stepping on the toes of PDP in rivers state because they would need their vote in 2027. Rivers state is a traditonal PDP state like Bayelsa and Delta if you try to fight them now.. kiss 2027 goodbye in the state. For 27 lawmakers to defect to APC it obvious Wike has defected in secret and he wanta to conquer the state as APC.
Amaechi will never allow this to happen. If it means backing Gov. Sim to the last he will. You don't read politicians well. Wike without control of Rivers state is rootless and nothing to Tinubu. There is nothing like traditional state to any party. Imo used to be core PDP state until Owelle Rochas came and bulldozed it to APC and there it is till date. The best bet for Sim is either kowtow to Wike or smartly decamp to APC and seek federal support to neutralize Wike's volleys. It's easy for Wike to convince Tinubu that Rivers financial warchest and political strength is important in his 2027 reelection and that Sim would be a stumbling block. Gbam, plots to unnseat him would gather steam from top. |
