Yahoo Plus Boy, Internet Fraudster Uses Charm To Hack Into Ecobank Mobile App, Withdraws N207 Million

A 28-year-old suspected fraudster, James Nwagalezi, was yesterday, arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court for allegedly conniving with Okoli Nmesoma, already facing trial, to hack into the mobile app account of Eko Bank Plc and unlawfully withdrew N207 million.

Nwagalezi is facing a four-count charge bordering on felony to wit unlawfully hacking into bank account and stealing, preferred against him by the Police.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Jimoh Joseph, told the court that the defendant and others still at large committed the offence on April 27 at Igboelerin, Okokomaiko, Ojo, Lagos.

He said The management of the bank at its headquarters in Lagos reported the fraud to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in charge of Ikoyi Division, SP Tijani Mustapha, who directed a crack team led by Inspector Tope Ijatuyi to fish out the suspects.

He added that “Nwagalezi was arrested after several months of manhunt. His arrest brings the number of suspects arrested and charged to court to six. The Police are still hunting for more suspects involved in the alleged fraud.”

According to the prosecutor, the offences are punishable under Sections 411, 387, 287 and 325 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

However, Nwagalezi pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Magistrate B. I. Bakare granted him N1 million bail, with two sureties in like sum, one of whom must be a community leader.

He adjourned the case till July 4 and ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Ikoyi Prison, pending when he is able to perfect his bail conditions.

​A 20-year-old computer operator, Gabriel Emmanuel, who allegedly scaled the fence of a church at night and stole N120,000 microphone engine, was on Thursday hauled up before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

The accused was arraigned before the Magistrate, Mrs M.O. Tanimola, on a charge of stealing.

Emmanuel, who resides at Akala, Mushin, Lagos, however, pleaded not guilty and was admitted to a bail of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.

Tanimola said the surety should be gainfully employed with an evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Police Prosecutor Aondohemba Koti had told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 3 at Olateju, Mushin, Lagos.

He said the accused stole a microphone engine valued at N120, 000, property of Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Mushin.

“The accused scaled the fence at night to gain access to the church premises and stole the engine.

“As he was about to escape through the fence, the security guard sighted him and raised alarm, shouting ‘thief, thief’.

“The accused was apprehended with the help of some members, who were sleeping in the church after the vigil.

“The stolen item was recovered and the accused was handed over to the police,” Koti said.

The offence violated Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The NAN reports that the offence carries a penalty of three years imprisonment.

Further hearing has been fixed for June 20.

​The issue with SARS official harassing celebrities is increasing as rapper Ruggedman has called them out for harassing people without warrants.

Ruggedman took to Instagram to recount the details of what happened at fellow rapper Jaywon’s birthday when SARS officials suddenly stormed the scene and tried arresting one of the guests almost kidnapping him.

Though the issue was resolved, Ruggedman still calls for order in the system because the harassments are getting out of hand.

​The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has released the Police recruitment examination conducted last week recording 54.2 per cent successful people from North, 45.2 per cent from the South and 0.8 per cent in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

The breakdown shows that out of the total 5,253 successful candidates released by the Police Service Commission, Northern zone produced 2,840 representing 54.2 per cent, Southern zone produced 2,374 representing 45.2 per cent and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, produced 42 candidates, representing 0.8 per cent of the total successful candidates.

In its reaction, the leadership of an Abuja-based non-governmental organisation, Lygel Youths and Leadership Initiatives, LYLI, said that the list of the successful candidates in the police recruitment test as released by the Police Service Commission, PSC, must have vindicated JAMB and the Federal Government of the allegation leveled against them that candidates were tested in Arabic language.

The group’s Executive Director, Mr. Lekan Oladapo, a lawyer, who was reacting to the noise generated by the allegation noted that the geographical distribution of the successful candidates have shown that all the geo-political zones of the country are adequately represented in terms of their performance.

A statement issued by the group and signed by Oladapo, noted that out of the total 5,253 successful candidates released by the Police Service Commission, Southern zone produced 2,374 representing 45.2 per cent, while the northern zone produced 2,840 representing 54.2 per cent. He said the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, produced 42 candidates, representing 0.8 per cent of the total successful candidates.

He said; “If you break it further, you would realise that each of the states is well represented. For instance, in South-East, where we have Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo, the successful candidates were 114, 146, 91, 119, 181 respectively. Whereas in North-East, we have Adamawa with 140, Bauchi (133), Borno (189), Yobe (110), Gombe (75) and Taraba with 112.

“The situation is the same across other states of the federation. Is it, therefore, not wrong for anyone to accuse JAMB of engaging in religious or ethnic biases? The list is open for everyone to see.”

The group has, therefore, advised Nigerians to address issues without sentiments and stop creating avoidable crisis.

It would be recalled that the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, had alleged the Federal Government was making Arabic language compulsory for all applicants shortlisted for recruitment into Nigeria Police Force.

​After petition being passed by Juryman Associate Chambers, on behalf of Higher Group Nig. Ltd, with claims that popular comedian Ayo Makun, known as AY owes the sum of N47m, the manager of the comedian, Amadi, has rebuffed it.

In a phone chat with The Nation, he said that the comedian has no direct dealing with the owner of the property, and therefore should not a called out as the debtor.

“AY is just a part of the Board of Directors,” said Amadi.

“He is the lowest, there are others that are higher in position and there is also the head of the board, which all issues concerning the property should be directed to.

“The reason AY’s name is being mentioned is because he is popular. That building is used as a company, it is not owned by an individual. When the place was rented it was in shambles, but the company fixed it up to what they wanted to use it for, which was a club.

“And when they were ready to vacate the place, they took everything that was theirs. There was also a case of elevator, which was promised by the owner of the building when the club started running, which he promised to fix, but did not,” Amadi added.

According to the petition dated April 24, 2018, which has been sent to the Area Commander, Area J Police Command, Ajah, Lagos, the tenancy of the building occupied by Ayo Makun (AY) is over and AY is expected to have evacated the building and paid the outstanding sum of N47m.

A breakdown of the N47m includes, rent arrears of N40m, accumulated electricity bill of N1.2m and service charge of N2.5m.

​Kano and Katsina States have the highest new police officers in the Police recruitment exercise.

In a list of successful applicants released by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), only 5, 233 were shortlisted.

Oyo is third with 225, and at 42, the federal capital territory (FCT) has the least number of candidates.

In a regional breakdown, north-west has the highest with 1, 300 candidates followed by south-west with 921 candidates.

North-central has 823 candidates while south-south has 779 and north-east has 759.

South-east has the lowest, with 651 candidates.

About 37, 000 candidates from across Nigeria had written the examination for the 2018 police constable recruitment.

​Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, has denied having any connection with the robbery that took place in Offa, a town in Kwara State.

Earlier on Sunday, the police had summoned Saraki after some of the suspects who confessed to the crime, had indicted him.

Five gang leaders had claimed that they were political thugs of the Senate President and the Governor of Kwara State, Abdulfatah Ahmed, hence the invite.

But in a statement released hours later by his Special Adviser (Media and Publicity) Yusuph Olaniyonu, the Senate President described the allegations as “baseless” and “another ploy by the Police to implicate him by all means”.

According to him, when the incident happened, he was the first top public official to pay a visit to the place after which he also put a call through to the Inspector General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, to make the necessary security arrangements.

He said, “Let it be known that there is no way I could have been associated with armed robbery against my people. When the Offa robbery incident happened, I was the first top public official to pay a visit to the place and right there in the palace of the traditional ruler, I put a call through to this same Mr Ibrahim Idris, the IGP, requesting him to make certain specific security arrangements as demanded by the people.

“Members of the public will remember that on May 16, 2018, I alerted the Senate about the information passed on to me by my State Governor, Dr. Abdulfatai Ahmed, over a plot by the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, to frame me up by getting some suspected cultists arrested in Ilorin to implicate me.

“It is believed that the timely leakage of the plot, in that case, aborted the use of the suspected cultists to implicate me. Now, it is the Offa bank robbery suspects that are about to be used”.

Speaking further, Saraki said the development was part of plans to embarrass him after the IGP had failed to honour invitations by the National Assembly over the killings across the country.

He, however, insisted that he had no hand in the case but will honour the police invitation when it is formally extended to him.

“This plot is concocted to embarrass me and, in the mind of the IGP, it is his own response after his refusal to honour the invitation by the National Assembly, headed by me, for him to come and offer explanations on the rampant killings and violence across the country.

“Like the earlier one, this frame-up will also fail as I hereby state categorically that I have no link with any band of criminals.

“As a person who has utmost respect for the rule of law and all constitutional institutions, when the invitation from the Police is formally extended to me, I will be ready to honour it without any delay.

“It is however sad that this abuse of the criminal investigation process aimed at intimidating and over-overawing the legislature, thereby obstructing it from doing its work, is a big threat to our democracy,” the Senate President stated.

Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, who was also named by the police as being involved in the incident, has denied sponsoring, funding and supporting political thuggery.

​Femi Fani-Kayode, a former minister of aviation has called on Ekiti State governorship candidate, Kayode Fayemi to stop forcing his way into power.

This is sequel to the incident at Ekiti which had a police officer shoot an ex-lawmaker and Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon Opeyemi Bamidele and a yet to be identified person as the candidate of the party, Dr Kayode Fayemi began the rally for the July 14 governorship election in Ekiti State.

Reacting, Fani Kayode writing on his Twitter page urged Fayemi to discard any attempt to frame Governor of Ekiti, Ayodele Fayose for murder.

The former minister added that there was no space for violence, describing Fayose as ‘unbeatable.’

“Someone tell @Fayemi that he can’t kill his way to power.

“There is no place for violence in politics. God is with @GovAyoFayose. Any attempt to shame or frame him with murder shall fail.

​Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose has called for three days of fasting and prayer for the All Progressives Congress (APC) former governorship aspirant, Hon. Michael Opeyemi Bamidele and others that were hit by bullets fired by a trigger happy policeman at the APC secretariat on Friday.

The governor, who also directed the suspension of all open campaign activities of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the State for three days, demanded that those found culpable in the invasion of the State with illegal policemen that were involved in the shootings must be brought to book.

In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said even though he was glad that Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele was responding to treatment, it was necessary that Ekiti people should support him and others with prayers.

“Our doctors can only try; it is only God that heals. Therefore, it is important at this point for all of us in Ekiti to go to God in prayers so that He can heal our brother and friend, Opeyemi Bamidele and others who sustained injuries on Friday.

“At this point, it is immaterial the political party that he belongs to, what is important is the life of an Ekiti son and I pray that God will touch Opeyemi Bamidele with His healing hands.

“Most importantly, Opeyemi Bamidele is a man that I have great respect for and since he has now been airlifted out of Ekiti for further treatment elsewhere, all we can do is to pray for him,” the governor said.

While urging politicians in the State to shun violence, the governor said the people should learn from the sad incidence and shun politics of violence.

“We must all shun violence and stop this mindset of coming to oppress the people of Ekiti with federal might. Those planning violence must be mindful of the fact that one can only know the beginning of violence, not the end,” he said.

He said the perpetrators of the shootings must be brought to book, adding that “the matter must not be swept under the carpet just because those involved are APC chieftains.”

​The All Progresives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has again accused Governor Ayodele Fayose of complicity in the shooting incident that nearly claimed the life of Opeyemi Bamidele, a former member of the House of Representatives.

It claimed that Fayose exhibited callous conduct in his celebration of the unfortunate shooting incident at the flag off and homecoming of the APC candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, at the weekend.

Reports had alleged that a suspected assassin fired bullets suspiciously meant for Dr Fayemi but missed their target to hit Bamidele and five others.

A statement on Sunday by the State Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, accused Fayose of being responsible for the unfornutate incident.

“We have it on good authority that Fayose and the Chaplain of the Government House rejoiced on learning about the unfortunate incident of attempt on Fayemi’s life.

“The immediate comment by Fayose and his conduct by going on radio to warn people to avoid Ajilosun area while accusing Fayemi and the APC of the incident confirmed loud whispers in town that he knew about the attack.

“We are also aware of Fayose’s usual style of creating an alibi when he ordered okada and bus operators on the same day to converge on Fajuyi area of the state capital as Fayemi was being received by his party.

“By conducting himself in this manner, Fayose deliberately wanted to truncate the reception by causing a show-down with the APC crowds in Fajuyi end of the town and used that to carry out his planned coordinated attacks by his thugs he had already assembled in the area,” he said.

Olatunbosun recalled the party’s last reminder to the police in a petition signed by 15 political parties informing the security agency about alleged Fayose’s plan to start attacking and possibly assassinate members of the opposition as the July 14 election draws near.

“In that petition, we listed names of Fayose’s hit squad and also our party members already marked for elimination. The attempt on Dr. Fayemi’ life on Saturday is therefore a confirmation of the plot.

“This latest video is Fayose’s familiar style of accusing others of what he intends to do; which is called reversed psychology.

“Anytime Fayose wants to attack the opposition members, he will accuse them of planning to attack the people only to carry out the attack and later blame the opposition for it.

“We now have a strong suspicion that Fayose is behind the failed assassination bid on Dr Fayemi and will stop at nothing to eliminate him as he did to his opponents in the past,” Olatunbosun explained.

He called on security agencies to deploy special security forces to Ekiti State “in view of the recent threat to the lives of Fayemi and other APC leaders”.

He said that as it was customary with Fayose, rushing to the media immediately after the shooting happened to make wild allegations indicated that Fayose knew about the unfortunate incident, noting that his action was a cover-up to hide the facts of the attempted murder.

“Fayose and PDP must tell the whole world what they knew about this failed assassination bid. “The governor is supposed to be the chief security officer of the state who should be concerned about attack on the life of a prominent citizen but he has instead been making unguarded statements which makes him a suspect,” Olatunbosun concluded.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has revealed that some employers use corps members posted to their organisations as slaves.

Mr. Emmanuel Attah, NYSC Coordinator, Osun State chapter, said this on Wednesday at the opening of the 2018 NYSC/Corps Employers workshop in Osogbo.

Atta said this was unfortunate because it would not make the affected corps members to give their best.

He said some of the corps members’ employers do not pay them any allowance, adding that the N19,800 allowance being paid them by the Federal Government was not adequate to feed, provide accommodation and transport them to work in a month.

He said, “Some of the corpers’ employers use the corps members as salves. They don’t pay most of these corps members any allowance. They believe that the Federal Government is paying them and that is okay for them.

”The N19,800 allowance the Federal Government is paying them is not enough to feed, transport them to and from their places of primary assignment and to rent a good accommodation.

“We need to treat them better and this will motivate them to also give their best.

” Corpers’ employers, by extant law, have the responsibility of providing transportation from the orientation camp for members posted to them, providing a convenient accommodation or money in lieu of, considering the fact that most of these corps members are in unfamiliar terrain.”

A 200 level computer science student at the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Miss Ewanfo was among the over 600 students in secondary and tertiary school’s students that were awarded scholarships and have their NECO Enrollment fees paid by the lawmaker worth several millions of Naira.
