Beginning from the first quarter of 2019, we’ll begin to see 5G enabled smartphone and MTN has promised to start 5G deployment before 2020. According to MTN, “5G will make our life better, drive incremental capacity and open up new businesses. MTN as a company is constantly making efforts to break barriers by democratising voice and data connectivity in order to improve subscriber experience, and has invested over N800bn in infrastructure in Nigeria.” You’ll recall that Earlier this year, MTN Nigeria conducted her first ever 5G technology test in partnership with ericsson and hit 20Gbps with less than 5ms latency in the 5G trial. MTN has received a temporary license for 800MHz of spectrum in the 15GHz band to conduct its 5G trials. And at TECHFEST , Mtn introduced how 5G network will be like. MTN Nigeria says it will start the commercial deployment of 5G technology before 2020. I wonder how the speed will be like… how many seconds it will take to download a 5GB file. http://kikiotolu.com/mtn-5g-network-to-be-available-in-nigeria-before-2020/

THE Ekiti State Governor-elect, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, yesterday, promised that his government would not fail the people of the state. He said that his administration, has no reason to fail the people of the state considering the experience he had garnered as a former Governor of the State, which he said gave him deep knowledge about the state. Fayemi also nursed the fear about the possibility of the Debt Management Office, DMO, under-declaring the state’s debt under Governor Ayodele Fayose, saying he would probe into the issue to be able to get first-hand information about the state’s fiscal strength to guide him when assuming office. He said this after inaugurating the Kayode Fayemi/APC Governorship Transition Committee, headed by Senator Olubunmi Adetumbi in Ado Ekiti. The 32-member committee is to interface with the present government and dialogue with other interest groups on how his government can hit the ground running when inaugurated on October 16. He said: “Let me say this, neither my Deputy Governor-elect, Chief Bisi Egbeyemi and myself consider ourselves as having a repository of knowledge or have answers to all Ekiti problems, so we are relying on your wealth of experiences.” “In your report, tell us those things we should not lay our hands on at all. Also endeavour to indicate those things we can do to have immediate impacts on our people when we assume office, which is the most important thing to the incoming government. “If you look at the configuration of this committee, we have more financial experts with deep knowledge of fiscal issues. There are four former Commissioners because finance is the main thing in Ekiti on the premise that our situations have worsened than we left it on October 2014. “Our people are in a serious mess, poverty has risen and we have to move fast and ameliorate their sufferings. “I want to appeal to the present government, particularly the Ekiti workers to cooperate with the committee in the spirit of patriotism. They should think more about Ekiti interest than that of any individual. “I see no reason why Fayose’s government would not want to cooperate with you because this was what we did in 2014 and which the whole Nigeria commended.” http://kikiotolu.com/ill-not-disappoint-ekiti-people-fayemi/

President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, on Sunday called on the nation’s youths to venture into entrepreneurship through their cell-phones as a way of self-employment and creating job opportunities for others. Saraki gave the charge while delivering the Fourth Convocation Lecture of the Adeleke University, Ede in the State of Osun, on Sunday. In his paper with the title, “National Economic Development Through Entrepreneurship: The Role of Private Universities in Nigeria,” Saraki said it has become imperative for youths not to see their phones as fashion accessories alone, but potent platforms to launch themselves into entrepreneurship and gainful self-employment. Saraki said: “To the graduating students, I will say that it is perhaps true that Nigerian youths are not currently maximising the potential that social media has for stimulating entrepreneurship in many areas, including those that were unheard of just a few years ago. “I would like to see more young Nigerians put what they learned in the university to impactful use by leveraging on the social media’s abundant opportunity for business ventures. “Entrepreneurship starts with a mindset; form networks, begin to see your phone as a business tool and not just a fashion accessory; get tutorials for starting new businesses or to ginger new business ideas. “There is no reason why any of today’s graduating students cannot become a Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of Twitter, net worth $5 billion – or Brian Chesky, a co-founder of Air BnB. Michelle Phan of the cosmetic business Ipsy is now worth $300 million – not bad for someone who first started by uploading her videos on YouTube,” he declared. He stated that due to its belief that entrepreneurship is crucial to the success of the economy, the National Assembly has since prioritised the passage of landmark economic laws to enable Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to grow. He urged private universities to rise to the challenge of promoting private enterprises by ensuring that entrepreneurial skills are taught across various disciplines. He said: “The education ethos ought to move away from the over-emphasis on theory-based approach and paper certification towards inculcating practical skills that support apprenticeship and boost innovation and industry. “This is the place of Vocational and Technical education which provides that the youth imbibe practical skills that will not only make them employable but will also help the country to build an army of job providers,” he said. The President of the Senate also charged the graduates to be good ambassadors for their alma mater – Adeleke University – and good economic ambassadors for their generation and for this country. “Endeavour always to be a credit to yourselves, to your families, your communities, and your country. The motto of this university is ‘Education, Excellence and Character’ – I encourage you to be exemplars of this motto. Be lifelong students, live the knowledge culture; an individual that never ceases to learn, never ceases to grow,” he stated. http://kikiotolu.com/saraki-to-nigerian-youths-turn-your-cellphones-into-business-tools/

The Ekiti State House of Assembly has said it did not adjourn hurriedly in order to stop an impeachment move against its presiding officers. Information available to newsmen from sources close to the House leadership indicated that the leadership hurriedly adjourned till October in order to stop a grand plan to remove Governor Ayodele Fayose before the handover date. It was learnt that a former leader of the Peoples Democratic Party who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress but still command great respect among the PDP members, was mandated to reach out to the lawmakers. A source who craved anonymity said, “The former PDP leader, being a well respected Ekiti indigene was allegedly given the task of reaching out to each of the lawmakers with a view to convincing them to defect. “The plan is that after securing a comfortable number of legislators into the camp of the APC, the impeachment moves against the speaker will start. After successfully removing the speaker, the plan is to elect a new one who will spear head the removal of Fayose and his deputy, Kolapo Olusola.” But the House leadership dismissed the speculation that it adjourned sitting till October 8 because of fear of the impeachment plot against its Speaker, Kola Oluwawole, Fayose and Olusola. Speaking in Ado Ekiti, the Chairman, House Committee on information, Dr. Samuel Omotoso, said harassment of members by security agencies before, during and after the July 14 governorship election was largely responsible. He said, “We adjourned due to prevailing insecurity that occurred before, during and after the governorship election. Individually, we went through hell in the hands of the security agencies who were chasing us all over and shooting at our houses. Some of us were arrested, brutalised and humiliated. “To add to the assault was the attack on the governor and laying of siege on the Government House. If the governor is not safe, there is no need for us to expose our flanks to the attack of the APC who snatched victory at the poll. “What we had in Ekiti is a replica of a war situation. We have a family and constituency that we are responsible to. They sent us there for quality representation and not to go and die.” Omotoso said hopes that the security situation would improve after the election were shattered. He said, “We thought it would get better but it got worse. Besides, the security agencies carried no tag, they had no identities. Those that arrested me had no name tags and dropped a fake telephone number that the Divisional Police Officer called several times and couldn’t get through. “This happened virtually to all of us so that we won’t be on ground for the election. It has been uncomfortable for us living in Ekiti since the election. In order not to play into the hands of the devil, we decided to excuse these people. “Considering the lawlessness of the security agencies that you cannot identify and the thugs imported from other states, we decided to adjourn. This is because if anyone of us is seen around, his movement will be predictable and they can lay ambush.” http://kikiotolu.com/ekiti-assembly-adjournment-not-about-speakers-impeachment-lawmakers/
