Artiste: Olamide Album: Lagos Nawa Features: Timaya, Reminisce, Phyno, Tiwa Savage Producers: Young John, Olamide Record Label: YBNL (2017) Duration: 59 minutes I think of the Nigerian music industry as a big empire comprised of several kingdoms; Afro-pop, alternative music, Hip-Hop, RnB and co. While the likes of Wizkid, Davido dominate the Afro-pop section and Simi directs the affairs of Nigerian alternative music; Olamide occupies the ‘indigenous rap’ throne. The ‘king of the street’ has used his position to popularize the genre and his subjects appear to be delighted with his reign so far. Six albums in six years from him, has ensured that the people on the streets are not starved of music. It has always been his habit to let the mood of the street influence the theme of his albums; the first was his introduction, one was about a new era championed by him, another was about the crowning of a new king but this ‘Lagos Nawa’ album is about creating a new model for the street, a new culture, a new sound – the ‘wobey’ sound. Olamide’s wobey sound comes off as a composite sound that blends musical elements of gbanjo, agolo with some kegite music, making the wobey sound a stimulant for street gyration dances . It is a sound that we’ve heard before on Olamide’s songs like Falila Ketan, Story for the gods but before now, it was often confused as some sort of indigenous rap. On the ‘Lagos Nawa’ album, Olamide bares the pop facet of his music, leaving only a small room for rap music with the self-produced, Shine and a bit of it on Radio Lagos . The general theme of the album is the typical Lagos hustler’s story; the troubles in the hood, the days of being broke but holding on to the a dream of a coming glory even when doubting Thomases wouldn’t stop talking. On Fe Nu Shey Street , Olamide reflects on how tough the Lagos streets are and how only the tough survive in it, tough people like him who shrugs off criticism and side talks like he did on Radio Lagos and Oro Paw Paw. In the same idon’tgiveafuck spirit, Lagos Nawa was recorded, Olamide’s hustle continues and it reaps enough fruits to call for celebration on Everyday Is Not Christmas. On this song, the vibe is right, the mood is great but Olamide’s obvious lack of lyrics is the dent. Imagine him using a line like, ‘Oya she open channel O, she tell me to say hello, I say hi, she say oo.’ Baddo however is a hustler with time for the ladies and party rocking; he is the man with many ladies on Moje Dodo , then he gets the ladies with thicker body to Bend It Over for him, Timaya & Reminisce; who told the tale best. On Shine, Olamide assumes the role of a street activist and a liberator of the streets’ people, encouraging them not to lose focus on the coming glory, using his success story to send a warning of the coming revolution to their oppressors. Olamide’s high spirited flow makes it an interesting track but the emptiness in his lyricism is glaring, particularly where he said ‘lai se action (*the sneezing sound), God dey bless me.’ Conclusively, Olamide’s inventiveness in creating the wobey sound is commendable, while it produced a number of songs full of good vibes on this album, there’s still so much lacking in the delivery and the presentation. I won’t make the mistake of classing the Lagos Nawa album as a rap album, it is largely a pop album and I’d like to see it nominated alongside albums like Wizkid’s Sound From The Other Side and other top pop albums. Rating (considering it as a pop album): 3/5 Rating (considering it as a rap album): 1/5 Written by Oluwatobi Ibironke http://fabinfos.com/album-review-olamide-lagos-nawa/ Lalasticlala Dominique Ishilove Mynd44

The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) is notorious for profiling people, mostly young Nigerians. The activities of the special police unit are now trending on social media . Hundreds of people are narrating the experience with SARS operatives. If the tweets are anything to go by, you could get arrested by SARS for looking or dressing some type of way. The reasons range from the ridiculous to the unbelievable. You can read them below; 1) Tattoos Tattoos are works of art and harmless fun but SARS use it to profile criminals. Having a tattoo or tattoos would most likely make you a suspect in the eyes of SARS officials. These law enforcement officials seem to believe only criminals have tattoos. If you bump into any of them and have a tattoo you are going to be in big trouble. The chances of being arrested and interrogated are pretty high. 2) Laptops Having a laptop shouldn’t be a big deal but for SARS operatives it is another indicator that you are into Internet fraud. The mere possession of a laptop would get you into serious trouble with SARS operatives. If you do not have a receipt for the laptop then you are in big trouble which might land you in a prison cell. SARS officers don’t believe ordinary citizens should own laptops. 3) Dreadlocks & Beards SARS operatives have been known to arrest men with dreadlocks and beards. It is code red for them. You could be artistic, woke and be a member of the beard gang, SARS could care less. No one really knows the connection between crime and having dreadlocks and a beard. You could be as gentle as a dove and still get arrested for having dreads and beards. 4) Ear piercing Mainstream Nigeria has always frowned on men with ear piercings so this is not much of a surprise. SARS operatives have jumped on this stereotype to arrest and detain young men with ear piercings. 5) Possession of a mobile phone In the 21st century, everyone should have a mobile phone. The men of the SARS don’t seem to think this way. Once they stop you in public, the next thing is to ask for your phone and search it with no warrant. The more expensive your phone, the bigger the trouble you are in. You could be called a cultist or Internet fraudster once they go through your phone. 6) Driving a car If you are young and have a car, trust me, SARS will you pull you over several times and search it. There are unconfirmed stories of SARS operatives planting incriminating objects in the cars of innocent Nigerians to get them arrested. 7) Dress sexy It’s not only men that get wrongly profiled by SARS, women too are victims. Thanks to the anti-SARS Twitter thread we’ve found out that these policemen pick on women too. Their style is to harass women who they think dress like prostitutes. These unlucky women are thrown into vans for interrogation or a ride around town. http://fabinfos.com/must-read-7-things-can-get-trouble-police-sars/ Lalasticlala Dominique Ishilove Mynd44 |
The #EndSARS Campaign is yielding positive results already – Thanks to all Nigerians for speaking out on this issue. Our prayer to God now is that the Government should not carpet all they have promised to do to reform the way SARS operates across the Country So today, a 500 level Medical student of Lautech sent us a mail narrating his experience in the hand of SARS. Read below (not edited) Hi, my name is ****** ****** (Name removed for Security reasons) A 500L medical student LAUTECH. People all over the country have been talking about the wickedness, oppression and brutality of #SARS and I’m here to share my own edition of their sheer madness! I had a girlfriend and we dated for almost a year. I was preparing for my MBBS Part 2 exam and I needed some cash to pay up some dues to get a clearance form for the exam. I asked my girlfriend and she gave me her ATM card to withdraw the sum of ten thousand naira. I wrote the exam and she was asking for her money as I couldn’t meet up with the payment as at when I promised and i told her to give me little time. One day while going back to my hostel from the hospital, I decided to check on her in her hostel without calling her. On getting there, I met another guy on top of my girlfriend having serious sex. I felt so bad and I left in pain. After a week, I called her and told her I wouldn’t be able to go on with the relationship but I am very much aware of the 10k I’m owing her and I’ll pay up immediately I get some money. She begged but I couldn’t go back. Meanwhile, the guy she had sex with is a SARS officer and she told him about the whole thing. One morning, I was preparing to go to the hospital when someone knocked my door. I opened the door only to find my ex girlfriend and four SARS officers pointing their guns at me. They didn’t tell me what was happening, I was just handcuffed, i was trying to call my mum when they collected my phone. We got to their office and I was asked what happen, I was trying to explain when they started beating me and said I should only write what the girl says (they’ve told her what to say). She said I took her ATM without her consent and withdrew 10k. I was surprised and told them It was a lie but, they beat hell out of me. I was in their cell for 3days with nobody knowing where i was. I was allowed to call the fourth day and the person I thought of calling was my dad’s friend who is an officer in the state CID. He came and when they saw him, they were in fears (they fear CID ehn). That was how I was allowed to go. While in the cell, they threatened to kill me, I met people in their cell and they’ve been there for months with no one to ‘rescue’ them from the den of the SARS operatives. The SARS operatives engage in all sorts of bad things that they themselves are guilty of yet they arrest people for those act. They smoke, drink and engage in hard drugs. They claim they can kill and no one will ask them. Most of them are cultists as the only suspects that eat in the cell are those that have a SARS officer in the same cult group in the station. The government MUST find a way to end their brutality because I can boldly say a lot of innocent people just because they don’t want to pay when they’re arrested. #EndSARSbrutality #EndSARS #SARSmustgo. http://fabinfos.com/endsar-sars-officer-slept-girl-dealt-badly-lautech-student-shares-sars-experience/ Lalasticlala Dominique Ishilove Mynd44

A dearth of experts in cybersecurity and technology is leaving Nigeria vulnerable to cybercrimes, warns the Department for State Security Service (DSS). DSS says internet fraud is more prevalent in the south west, especially Lagos, Ogun and Oyo. Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) is considered to have the highest concentration of cyber criminals and in the country. Deputy-Director of the DSS in-charge of Security in Anambra state, Mr.Yekini Ishola, made the disclosure while presenting a paper on cyber crimes and the way out at a two-day annual security seminar organised by the Security Department of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, tagged "Developing Technological Strategy Towards Crime Reduction In Tertiary Institution." He said cyber crimes were not committed by an individual, but a network of criminal activities perpetrated by syndicates using what he referred to as identity theft, hacking, stocking, malicious software and other dubious means to gain access into personal information and account details. "As a result of dearth of hitech cyber security apparatus in the country, it could be rather difficult to fight cyber crimes to a standstill. Collective responsibility is therefore required to track cyber fraudsters and their cronies," he stressed. Identifying investigation and intelligence gathering as ways perpetrators of cyber crimes could be nailed, the security expert however cautioned the public to desist from disclosing sensitive personal information like Bank Verification Numbers, ATM pin numbers, passwords and phone numbers to unknown persons. http://fabinfos.com/lautech-highest-concentration-cyber-criminals-says-dss/

The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, in Kano, has reacted to the reported clash between soldiers and some corps members in the orientation camp at Karaye Local Government Area of the state. Report emerged on the social media late last week that soldiers and some corps members clashed in the NYSC camp in Kano. In a statement by the NYSC public relations officer, Aliyu Ahmed, which was made available to newsmen on Sunday, the scheme denied the report. The statement said, “The attention of the Management of the NYSC has been drawn to news reports of skirmishes between a group of Corps members and the Camp Commandant, Capt. Anyaegbunan during the ongoing 2017 Batch ‘B’ Orientation Course at Karaye. “We wish to state for the records that the face-off started as a result of actions taken by a group of Corps members in solidarity with their colleagues who were being punished while loitering within the Camp Premises as social activity was going on. “The chanting of solidarity songs by the Corps members was an effort to get the erring Corps member released from the Camp Commandant which later ignited a rowdy session.” According to the scheme the situation was immediately brought under control after the commandant addressed the Corps members on the issue. http://fabinfos.com/nysc-reacts-clash-soldiers-corps-members-kano/ Lalasticlala Dominique Ishilove Mynd44

Two members of the Kogi state NYSC, Ifeanyi Uzumeh and Blessing, have been confirmed dead. Here’s what another corps member who confirmed their deaths wrote on Facebook; “This is terribly painful and unbelievable that we lost this guy Apostle Ifeanyi Uzumeh (Biggie slim fit)…IMSU feels d pain, History feels d pain, his PPA at Kogi feels d pain, IYP feels d pain, 2017 Batch A stream 1 feels d pain, Imo state feels d pain , Okigwe feels d pain. Very difficult to believe from my side… But the funny aspect of this so called NYSC scheme is that Nigeria have no stipulated wherewithal of sympathising with a bereaved family who lost a love one in this service… I would have love to articulate the loop holes of this scheme but my soul is mourning.” http://fabinfos.com/nysc-loses-two-corps-members-kogi/

Corps Members have been advised not to embark on any journey that may lead them into trouble or unpleasant experiences during the service year. NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Sulaiman Kazaure, stated this today while addressing 2017 Batch ‘B’ Stream One Corps Members at Enugu and Abia State Orientation Camps respectively. He, however urged them to follow the laid down procedures in the NYSC Scheme if there are genuine reasons to travel. The Director-General added that NYSC Management would not undermine the safety and welfare of any Corps Member. Kazaure also advised them to serve as good ambassadors of their families and the NYSC in their places of primary assignments and host communities. Speaking further, the DG admonished the Corps Members to participate actively in all camp activities adding that the Orientation Programme is the bedrock for a successful service year. “Avoid unnecessary journey, seek permission and follow due process from your employer up to the NYSC”. ‘If you want to organise night party, let it take place within your lodge and remember that you are not above the law as Corps Members,” Kazaure said. While briefing the Director-General on Camp situation, Enugu State Coordinator, Alhaji Ikaka Ahmed, said hoodlums recently attacked the camp while some equipments were carted away. He added that the Camp depends on power generating sets as the only source of power while he commended the GOC 82 Div. Nigerian Army for assisting the Camp with water tankers. Ikaka also lamented lack of utility vehicles that would ease prompt discharge of official engagements. Abia State Coordinator, Mrs Francesca Ifon, told General Kazaure that the Corps Members have been co-opted into various Camp Committees and were well-behaved. She appealed for more assistance from the State Government for NYSC programmes in the State. http://fabinfos.com/nysc-avoid-unnecessary-journey-dg-corps-members/ Lalasticlala Dominique Ishilove Mynd44

At least 10,000 indigent children in Ekiti State will be provided Christmas dress made from ankara and other materials during the yuletide season. The State Governor, Chief Ayodele Fayose, disclosed this during a meeting with tailors in Ado-Ekiti. In a press release by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Idowu Adelusi, on Friday, the sewing and distribution of the clothes would take place in designated centres across the 16 local government areas of the state. Moreover, the governor said he would buy 100 sewing machines to complement those to be used by volunteer tailors during the exercise. The 100 sewing machines would later be given out to tailors through a transparent balloting process. “When we were young, we always looked forward to the Christmas and New Year festivities that at least our parents would buy clothes for us. But with the prevailing economic situation in the country, some parents may not be able to do that and we felt we can help to bridge such gap. ” The exercise is part of our Stomach Infrastructure Programme and we have to take care of the needs or our people and make them happy. Also, it is a kind of financial empowerment for our people as we are buying all the materials here. We are also going to give the volunteer tailors some stipends during the exercise. “At the end of the exercise, some of the tailors will go home with sewing machines. In Ado-Ekiti, we are projecting to have five centres and maybe two in Ikere and one each in other local government areas,” he said. Fayose said only children between the ages of one to 10 would benefit from the exercise and that it would be first come first served. On the style to be sewn, the governor said it would be buba and sokoto for males and gowns for females. The Patron of tailors in Ado-Ekiti, Mrs Omodele Famuyibo, lauded the governor for the initiative. “This has not happened in our state before and it shows the kindheartedness of our governor. Truly, with the economic crunch in the country, many parents are incapable of buying clothes for their children during the Yuletide season and this is a helping hand from the governor. May God bless our governor and take him to higher heights,” she said. Speaking in the same vein, Mr Aderemi Jimoh, the Chairman of the Tailors Association, commended Governor Fayose. “He is not only helping the children, he is empowering and helping is too. How many people come to sew clothes nowadays? We are happy that we won’t just sit down idle during the festive period as we will have work to do too,” he noted. At least, 250 tailors are expected to be part of the exercise which would start mid December. http://fabinfos.com/fayose-provides-christmas-dress-10000-ekiti-children/

Founder and General Overseer of the Living Faith Church also known as Winners’ Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo has stated that he feels good when accused of flying private jets and maintaining them with church’s money. Bishop Oyedepo said he is not disturbed by false news carried around about him but only sees such as persecutions. When asked in an interview with the Education Explorer during the weekend if the allegation that he uses church money to main his jets trouble him, the pastor said, “I feel very good. It’s an opinion. Let me tell you what my understanding of persecution is; it’s simply an opinion harshly expressed. And everybody has a right to his opinion. “People who are walking in the truth are hardly bothered when things are said negatively about them because they have nothing to hide. The truth is I have never felt it, some say it’s not human, but I have not. I can’t be wasting my time trying to reply lies because I have too many things to do. “They are doing their work, let me be doing my work too and before they wake up in the morning, I’ve done the next one, so, it doesn’t matter. My idea of it is that, in a football match, you have only 22 people playing with thousands of spectators. “And that is the way it is in the journey of life. In every field, you find just few players and many spectators, multitudes. If we don’t know where to place opinions, they will displace us. “When we started Covenant University, so many people said it would not work, now, we hosted two Nobel Laureates this week, whereas no Nigerian university has ever hosted one in the history of university education in Nigeria. “Now, it is the most pronounced and preferred private university in Nigeria. In fact, they say this is the university of the future; that is what they say in the university community. Those who said it could not work now have their children here because they have changed their mind. “Some people say how can you tell children how to dress? We have to do that so they won’t behave like mad people on the street. They say how can you tell them they can’t use phone? We tell them so they would be disconnected from cultism. “Ask me anything, I can tell you why we did it. Where are you going to find the President of a nation with a woven hair? I can tell you that in the next 100 years, you won’t find a male president using earring because they would count you as irresponsible, even in the secular world, they won’t see anything in you. “As free as America is, have you ever seen any minister there with earrings? The person may be qualified, but he will be termed irresponsible. But if you train these children how to carry themselves, it will open up their future. “Everywhere you get to in this world, people are looking for responsible people, who don’t only say so, but prove so. So, all the opinions on Covenant University have died now because we didn’t stop pursuing what we believe was right and now it has become a standard.” http://fabinfos.com/feel-people-say-use-church-money-fly-maintain-private-jets-bishop-oyedepo/ Lalasticlala Dominique Ishilove Mynd44

Seasons Greetings to all lovers of good music like “me, my body and my soul”… C.A.C Good Women Choir – Odun Nlo Sopin – Led by Mrs. D. A. Fasoyin, C.A.C Good Women group released the best Xmas/New Year eve song entitled ‘Odun Nlo Sopin’ in Nigeria many years ago, prolly before I was born though; but all that matters is I heard the song and I still know it. The Fantastic & evergreen song. There was a time when religious fundamentalism was not prevalent, when everybody got along so easily unmindful of religious affiliations. We celebrate both religious festivals with so much pomp and cheerfulness. Muslims play Christian songs with no blow-back and everyone attended Id el fitri… oh those days of innocence. Here is the Evergreen Song. DOWNLOAD VIA: http://fabinfos.com/download-music-c-c-good-women-choir-odun-nlo-sopin/ Lalasticlala Dominique Ishilove Mynd44
