Celebrities / Olamide To Host OLIC 2017 At Teslim Balogun Stadium by Yarnvibes(f): 4:19pm On Nov 22, 2017
Barely a week after the successful release of his seventh studio album ; Lagos Nawa, Olamide is making another remarkable move that in every way cements his position as the hottest and most influential rapper in Nigeria.

Baddo has just announced that the fourth edition of his annual headline concert ‘Olamide Live In Concert (OLIC)’ will be moving to a new venue – a much more bigger venue!

The previous editions were held at the 6,000 capacity Eko Hotels Convention Centre in Lagos which was quite a massive venue but not large enough to contain the multitude who come out annually to witness the event.

Over the years, fans have complained of their inability to witness the show as the venue is usually packed even before the show kicks off.

Olamide has heard the complains of his fans and has decided to move the event to a venue that is four times bigger.

The rapper has just announced that the 2017 edition which is slated for 17th, December will be held at the Teslim Balogun Stadium – a 24, 000 capacity stadium in Surulere, Lagos.

This move comes after fellow rapper Phyno shutdown a 22 thousand capacity stadium in Enugu.

Olamide is pushing the boundaries and proving that he is indeed the king of the streets.

NYSC / Scholar Urges Corpers To Return Overpaid Allowances by Yarnvibes(f): 10:23pm On Nov 07, 2017
A Muslim scholar and social media activist, Ustãz Muhammad Sanusi, has admonished Corp members who received beyond their usual allowance of N19,800 to return it to the Federal Government.

It was learnt that some corps member were paid N19,800 four times (N79,200), while some were paid as much as N164,000.

READ HIS FULL ADMONITION BELOW:

Assalaam alaykum warahmatullaah wabarakaatuh
This morning, I got a report from a Corps member that NYSC has overpaid some youth serving in the scheme. My informant, a serving Corps member was paid 19,800 four times! That brings her total allowee for the month of October to N79,200!!! In fact, a friend to my informant who has just passed out was paid 164,000 instead of 41,000.

Dear brothers and sisters in Islaam, if you’re one of those that have been overpaid by the NYSC, do not think that you have hit a jackpot and divert the money for personal use. No, by Allaah this is a museebah you’ve just been afflicted with. Do not let the Shaytaan win you over. That money belongs to fellow Corps members who are awaiting payment.

Here, you should demonstrate the spirit of honesty, justice and humanity of Islaam by returning the money to the appropriate authorities.

You’re not being smart by keeping quiet about it. The NYSC scheme may not know, but surely Allaah knows!

Devouring the wealth of others unjustly is a grievous sin in Islaam. It’s one of the kabaa’ir (major sins) for which some nations past were destroyed.
Remember…. You may escape from the wrath of the Federal Government, you can’t escape the wrath of Allaah!
“O you who have believed, do not consume one another’s wealth unjustly but only [in lawful] business by mutual consent. And do not kill yourselves [or one another]. Indeed, Allah is to you ever Merciful.” (Q. 2:188)

“O you who have believed, do not consume one another’s wealth unjustly but only [in lawful] business by mutual consent. And do not kill yourselves [or one another]. Indeed, Allah is to you ever Merciful.” (Q. 4:29)

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Do you know who is bankrupt?” They said, “The one without money or goods is bankrupt.” The Prophet said, “Verily, the bankrupt of my nation are those who come on the Day of Resurrection with prayers, fasting, and charity, but also with insults, slander, consuming wealth, shedding blood, and beating others. The oppressed will each be given from his good deeds. If his good deeds run out before justice is fulfilled, then their sins will be cast upon him and he will be thrown into the Hellfire.”

Education / Despite 2-years Strike, LAUTECH Ranked Best State University In Nigeria – VC by Yarnvibes(f): 3:19pm On Oct 11, 2017
Despite being on strike for two consecutive sessions , coupled with issues of poor funding from Oyo and Osun state governments, and owing lecturers at least 12 months salaries, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, was ranked best university in Nigeria, according to the university’s Vice-chancellor Prof. A.S Gbadegesin.

“Although we were not in session for two years, we were ranked the best state university in July and second best in NUC ranking,” he said while addressing students during a joint congress on Tuesday.

Prof. Gbadegesin made this remark in an attempt to pacify the students who were clearly agitated due to the prolonged strike that had truncated academic activities in the school for the past two years.

According to a recent ranking by Nigeria Universities Commision (NUC) published in July, LAUTECH placed 21st on the general list which included federal-, state-, and private-owned universities. However, among state-owned universities, LAUTECH was ranked 2nd best, with Lagos State University (LASU) taking the top spot.

The reactions to the Vice-chancellor’s disclosure were mixed as some students cheered while others either booed or maintained a poker face of indifference.

The school management had initially announced that academic activities were going to commence on Monday, October 3. However, the striking academic staff union contradicted the claim, stating that they were not going to resume until their demands are met.

In the meeting the Vice-chancellor assured the students that “the end of the struggle is here,” and after being pressured by students for a specific date said, “by the grace of God, lectures will start on Monday.”

Politics / Fayose Visits Physically Challenged, Employs 50, Donates Fund [PHOTOS] by Yarnvibes(f): 8:25am On Oct 11, 2017

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose has ordered immediate employment of 50 physically challenged indigenes of Ekiti into the State's Civil and Teaching service.

The governor made the declaration when he met with Ekiti State Chapter of Nigeria Association of Physically Handicapped at Oluyemi Kayode Stadium on Tuesday as part of activities marking his administration's third year anniversary.

Mr. Fayose who appreciated the association's support for his administration assured them of his continous assistance in and out of office. Noting that employment and the social support scheme hasn't gone round, the governor promised to add 100 more members of the association to the state social support scheme beneficiaries who are being paid #5000 per month.

Governor Fayose directed that all members must benefit as nothing done to improve their lives could be regarded as too much considering their limitations. He also directed that beneficiaries of the employment window be removed from the social welfare scheme in the spirit of fairness.

For the young lads amongst them who are in school, the governor assured them of interventions as time goes on. He added that he knows how painful it is for them generally to make ends meet especially those who are couples in the same condition. "I feel your pains, I share your pains and I assure you of continuous support", the governor said.

Mr. Fayose promised to provide 20 wheelchairs for those in need of it as he directed a member of the State House of Assembly, Dr. Samuel Omotoso to make free recommended eye glasses available for those with sight defects from Wednesday.

For those who have sicknesses with need for doctor's attention, Mr. Fayose released the sum of # 1million and directed the Chief Medical Director of the state teaching hospital to meet with them at the stadium on Wednesday by 10am. "Some of you have high blood pressure, diabetes and so on, I will release a million naira as medical bills so as to make life more comfortable for you, the CMD of EKSUTH should come and attend to you here tomorrow by 10am", he said.

In a dramatic twist, a lawyer Gboyega Ayodeji Afolabi got an automatic employment into the Ekiti State University after a pronouncement by the governor. Gboyega, a native of Usi-Ekiti in Ido/Osi LG who has challenges with his sight graduated from EKSU as a lawyer and is currently serving in the institution.

Speaking with newsmen, Mr. Gboyega described governor Fayose as God sent who will do his best to turn around the plight of the downtrodden adding that the governor's gesture made today the best in his life.

Romance / Study Reveals Kinds Of Children Likely To Seek Divorce In Marriage As Adults by Yarnvibes(f): 10:27am On Oct 10, 2017
A study by researchers at Virginia Commonwealth University and Lund University in Sweden has revealed that children of divorced parents are more likely to get divorced when compared to those who grew up in two-parent households.

According to the study, this increased tendency is caused by genetics and not psychological factors.

In the study published in the 2017 journal of Psychological Science, the researchers analysed Swedish population registries and found that people who were adopted resembled their biological but not adoptive parents and siblings in their histories of divorce.

In the study report, Jessica Salvatore, an Assistant Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University, said: “We were trying to answer the basic question: Why does divorce run in families?

“Across a series of designs using Swedish national registry data, we found consistent evidence that genetic factors primarily explained the intergenerational transmission of divorce.

“By recognising the role that genetics plays in the intergenerational transmission of divorce, therapists may be able to better identify more appropriate targets when helping distressed couples.

“Focusing on increasing commitment or strengthening interpersonal skills may not be a particularly good use of time for a therapist working with a distressed couple.

“At present, the bulk of evidence on why divorce runs in families points to the idea that growing up with divorced parents weakens your commitment to and the interpersonal skills needed for marriage.

“However, these previous studies haven’t adequately controlled for or examined something else in addition to the environment that divorcing parents transmit to their children: genes.

“For example, other research shows that people who are highly neurotic tend to perceive their partners as behaving more negatively than they objectively are [as rated by independent observers].

“So, addressing these underlying, personality-driven cognitive distortions through cognitive-behavioral approaches may be a better strategy than trying to foster commitment.”

Politics / Fayose Has Become A Pacesetter In The Education Sector -ladoja by Yarnvibes(f): 7:18am On Oct 08, 2017
Former Oyo State Governor and the Osi Olubadan of Ibadan Land, High Chief Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja has described Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose as a Pacesetter in the Nigerian education sector. He made the remark at the Ekiti State Government house on Saturday during a chat with newsmen after what he described as a "private visit to his brother".

Alhaji Ladoja who lamented Oyo State's poor performance in the 2017 NECO and WAEC commended governor Fayose for returning the glory of Ekiti as the Fountain of Knowledge saying "Fayose has become the Pacesetter at least in Education because not many governors can say I came 1st in NECO last year and 1st again this year, this is enough feat and I think we he should be commended".

Affirming that he is on his way back to the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), Alhaji Ladoja accused the Oyo State incumbent governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi of causing confusion in the state because he knows he's on his way out. "I am on my way back to the PDP and dislodging APC in Oyo State won't be a difficult task, you will recall he's ruling with 32% of Oyo people’s vote, I had 29% despite the power of incumbency, it wasn't a major defeat for us.

"He knows he's on his way out, that's why he's creating a lot of confusion, dabbling into issues that have nothing to do with him, the Chieftaincy issue has nothing to do with him, he didn't say a thing about Chieftaincy when he was campaigning.

"He promised to better our education but today Oyo State came 29th in WAEC and 27th in NECO. Do not forget free education started in Oyo State, Ajimobi has failed woefully in education", Alhaji Ladoja said.

Commenting on Mr. Fayose's aspiration for the presidency, Chief Ladoja said no one can take away the governor's right from him. "He has the right to contest, zoning is a gentleman's agreement, no one can deprive another of his right as a Nigerian, all he needs do is convince others to vote for him in getting the ticket.

"Zoning the position to the north doesn't preclude anybody from contesting, it's his right as a Nigerian to contest, you can't deprive him that". He advised leadership of the PDP not to be forceful about zoning but to use it as a tool of winning elections.

Alhaji Ladoja who said he can't say if the country can still go back to the regional system of government reiterated his support for restructuring.

"I don't know if Ondo State will love to share its oil with Ekiti neither do I know if Lagos with an internally generated revenue of # 25b per month will want to share it with other states, it's a very delicate issue but by and large, I support restructuring and I believe we should start with economic integration in the Southwest rather than with political integration", he said.

Berating the Buhari administration for using EFCC as an instrument of attack against the opposition rather than instrument for correcting ills of the society, High Chief Ladoja said he's not surprised that the EFCC is after Fayose as a leading voice of the opposition adding that they are after him as well.

Family / Man 'fights' His Late Father For Including His Female Children In His Will by Yarnvibes(f): 8:36am On Oct 05, 2017
A Nigerian man has left many people in shock after refusing to obey his late father's instruction on how to share his properties because he included his female children as beneficiaries.

The late Gabriel Okwukogwu may not be resting in peace in his grave after all, as he was said to have attracted the anger of his first son, simply known as Emmy for sharing his properties among his seven children including the four women in Anambra State.

It was gathered that an infuriated Emmy reportedly went to his father's grave to tell him that he will not comply with the will he prepared when he was alive. The family is from Orlu in Imo State but stays at G.M.O Road in Ogbaru area of Onitsha metropolitan city in Anambra.

It was gathered that Emmy who resides in Lagos returned after the death and burial of his late father. After the burial the late father's lawyer called the members of the family, presented their late father's will and read it to the children for implementation. However, trouble was said to have started after the counsel got through reading the will and Emmy discovered that their late father shared his properties to his children including the women among them. It was gathered that the late Okwukogu had properties both in Onitsha and Owerri which he shared equally among the children not minding the gender status.

It was gathered that when the lawyer finished reading the will to the children, Emmy got angry and declared that the will did not come from their father because he really understood the culture and tradition as observed in Igbo land.

It was gathered that the culture did not recognise women because it was expected that they will get married to their husbands and therefore were not entitled to inherit any property from their family. Thus Emmy insisted that the culture and tradition will be applied in the sharing of the properties.

An infuriated Emmy reportedly left the meeting and headed to their family house in Orlu, went to his father's grave and protested; that he will not comply with his purported will because he did not comply with the laid down customs and tradition in the land.

It was gathered that Emmy's decision to reject the will was causing serious problem in the family as the women in question threatened to fight for their rights as contained in the will rejected by their eldest brother.

When P.M.EXPRESS spoke to some Igbo leaders concerning the incident, some spoke against the sharing and declared that Emmy was right because women werr not entitled to inherit family properties according to tradition. Others said that it was the old practice and the properties in question were not family houses which the women will never inherit according to tradition.

It was however not certain how the matter will be resolved because the will was regarded as a valid document that must be complied with despite any perceived defects.

Politics / PDP Spokesman, Adeyeye Alleges Plot To Burn His Radio Station In Ekiti by Yarnvibes(f): 12:04pm On Sep 29, 2017
Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Caretaker Committee, Prince Adedayo Adeyeye, has alleged plot to burn down his radio station in Ado Ekiti.

Voice FM 89.9, the first private radio station in Ekiti State, is located on NTA Road in Ado Ekiti.

Adeyeye raised the alarm in Ado Ekiti at a meeting with the leadership of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

His words, “We have been hearing and receiving anonymous calls that some hoodlums were plotting to carry out arson attack on this radio station. This is satanic because the station is non-partisan and that has been our policy.

“The station was built for Ekiti to serve as the voice of the people. The station has been saying the truth and some people don’t want the truth to be told.

“The General Manager and I had received information about this evil plot and we are planning to beef up security around the station. I have also instructed my GM to write the Department of State Services and the police about this”.

The former Minister of Works also lamented the state of education in the state.

“I am beginning to fear that Ekiti youths are wasting away. The North is fast moving ahead of us even as a fountain of knowledge because our governments have abandoned the education sector,” he said.

The ICPC chairman said to ensure prevention and public enlightenment, the commission embarked on integrity outreach programmes, such as “sanitation of the universities and other tertiary institutions, which led to the closure of illegal universities and prosecution of their proprietors”.

“We closed 21 illegal degree awarding institutions and fake NYSC camps across Nigeria. We are prosecuting their proprietors now,” he said.

Owasanoye, represented by Jimoh Bulus Mai, ICPC Sokoto Office Officer, added that the commission embarked on interactive forum with religious leaders to enlighten them on ICPC Act 2000 and challenge them to make positive impact on anti-graft war in Nigeria.
