The World Bank and some multilateral agencies in Washington have applauded the power sector recovery plan of Minister of Works, Power, Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, and offered to render financial support. Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, who disclosed this as head of Nigeria’s delegation to the World Bank-IMF meetings in Washington, USA, also reassured Nigerians that the cash recoveries being made by agencies of government in President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption drive would not be re-looted Fashola She quoted the World Bank and IMF as saying that the power sector recovery plan of Fashola was realistic. In a meeting with the agencies, Fashola was said to have presented the power plan, which was approved by the Federal Executive Council, FEC, only about a month ago, and secured the support of the financial institutions. According to Adeosun, at a press briefing in Washington, “what the power sector recovery plan has done is to look at all the problems really honestly. The multilateral agencies have looked at the plan we have put together and they like it because, as they said it is realistic. “We have really dimensioned all the issues from GenCos to DisCos to end users to metering, and one thing that everybody is very clear of is that it is a big problem. “So, it is a large problem that will take some time to solve, but the most important thing is that there are milestones of what we are expecting to see. “The multilateral agencies have pledged their support financially, because those investments are tied to certain results. For example, if you look at the issues around the transmission, power is generated, but can’t be evacuated because the transmission capacity is not there. So, just investing in the transmission capacity in certain areas will change the power outlook. “From the impression I got, yesterday, from the meeting, they were optimistic that if we actually implement what we’ve planned, and the Minister of Power, Works and Housing was very emphatic that he is going to drive the implementation. “I feel quite optimistic that it is realistic. We are not saying throw away your generator by December, it is a realistic plan, but it is going to take time. “If we have power, a lot of factories that have closed down can re-open. So, it ties with our Economic and Recovery Growth Plan.’ Recovered funds will not be re-looted On recovered funds, she assured that the money would not be re-looted, stressing that the country now has a single account for reconciling recovered funds, to avoid re-looting. She said: “We have a recovery account. All the recovered monies go into the recovery account which we reconcile. “Now, in the budget, there was the provision that some recovered monies would go into it and that goes into specific projects in the budget. Any excess recoveries, we have to wait and take some decisions. So far, we have recovered up to the amount we are expecting in the budget. “But what we are trying to do is to make sure that there are controls, that was why we created a central recovery account. What we also discovered is that so many agencies are recovering and we must keep and eyes on those recoveries, otherwise there is the risk of re-looting.” “So, all the agencies that recover send us their returns monthly and then we sweep it into a central account, which is kept by the Accountant General so that we can reconcile. “Even some of the cash that is recovered, we have to make sure it goes into the bank. You’d be surprised, some agencies will recover cash, and they think it is evidence, and we are saying no, it’s money, put it in the bank. “This is something that is new and I think it is a good thing. As we recover more, we get better at it. It is a new thing in Nigeria.” According to SBM Intelligence, a consulting firm, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has recorded 38 recoveries, which amount to N146.4 billion, $217.3 million and £2.074 million, as at April 19, 2017. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/04/world-bank-applauds-fasholas-power-plan-offers-financial-support/

cktheluckyman:This is sad. 67.2 Billion that could have built good schools round all the corners of Nigeria. 67.2 Billion that could have built world class specialist hospitals in all the States in Nigeria. 67.2 Billion that could have revamped our refineries. 67.2 Billion that could have built good roads around the Country, especially those bad roads in the East. 67.2 Billion that could have equipped our Military to be one of the best in the world. 67.2 Billion that could have touched everybody's life one way or the other in Nigeria. But what happened?Goodluck Jonathan led a very organized crime ring,to KILL and BURY Nigeria. About 15 people stole what belongs to almost 200 Million people. If you are still supporting the last Government. Just walk slowly to the "Mirror" in your bathroom, and very slowly whisper to yourself " I was Born a Fool" Then come back to this thread ,and look at the amount again "67.2 Billion" and then repeat the " I was Born a fool" again. |

By Levinus Nwabughiogu ABUJA —Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said that Nigeria was better off staying together as one, united and indivisible nation than disintegrating into small units. Yemi Osinbajo Osinbajo, who made the observation while playing host to Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, in his office at the Presidential Villa, Abuja Tuesday, said those yearning for secession were ignorant of the implication of their struggle. The vice president appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to ignore those who saw no good in the unity of the country. He said: “A lot of those who say we are better divided as a nation, don’t understand that the greatness of this country lies first in its diversity and then its size. “It is better to be a part of a great thing than to be one tiny part of something that is not necessarily great. “So, I think that we must not allow those who advance personal causes to defeat the very strong objectives of bringing this country together as a nation and forging ahead.’’ He told the delegation that President Muhammadu Buhari was one leader who possessed the willingness and passion to ensure the country remained united. He added that the President had shown that the country had men who were determined to remain honest, straight forward and able to speak their minds without deceit. Osinbajo, who was presented with publications of ACF by the Deputy Chairman and leader of the delegation, Alhaji Musa Liman Kwande, also expressed support for the proposed security summit being organized by the Forum. He also underscored the importance of the security summit at this time in the nation’s history, noting that the security of the nation was a very important one. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/04/better-off-together-one-nation-osinbajo/

nice one our beautiful finance minister |
By Emma Ujah, Abuja Bureau Chief ABUJA— Finance Minister, Mr Kemi Adeosun, yesterday, told the World Bank and parliamentarians from across the world that the whistle-blowing policy of the Federal Government was very successful. Speaking at the global parliamentary conference hosted on the sidelines of the World Bank and IMF spring meetings in Washington DC, the minister highlighted Nigeria’s economic reform agenda and the need for strong executive and legislative collaboration. She said: “We are going after those who have stolen our money. We have put in place a very successful whistleblower programme that is delivering results, and allows those who report illicit activity to receive up to 5 percent any funds that we recover. “We are also significantly improving our financial management controls to ensure that it is considerably more difficult for public funds to be diverted. We have to do more though and that means collaboration with the legislature. “We need tighter tax and financial reporting legislation and to ratify bilateral agreements so that our enforcement agencies are empowered to deliver the results that we need.” The whistle-blowing policy has aided the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in making recoveries across the country. Adeosun also called for greater focus on collaboration in battling illicit financial flows from Africa, adding that this was a core pillar of the government’s strategy to significantly enhance domestic government revenue and deliver sustainable economic growth. She said: “The government is focused on resetting the Nigerian economy by addressing our traditional over-reliance on oil revenues and establishing the basis for sustainable non-oil revenue growth. “To improve non-oil revenues, we have to address illicit capital flows. When stolen money is transferred from Nigeria, or other African countries, there are too few questions asked by those countries that receive the funds, but when we identify those funds as stolen and seek to recover them, there are too many questions being asked. “There is money sitting in foreign bank accounts that we have spent over a decade trying to recover. That is money that could deliver significant value for Nigeria as we seek to increase spending on critical infrastructure and establish a basis for long term sustainable growth.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/04/chasing-stole-money-adeosun-tells-world-bank/

“My wife is sleeping with her pastor, when I got to know I confronted her and she confessed to me. “Apart from having sex with her pastor, she was also cheating on me with my younger brother,” he said. The respondent also said that his wife was violent in nature. “There was a day we had disagreement, she picked up a stone and broke the windscreen of my car,” the petitioner said. He said that Ogechi ran away with their children to her village when he told her that he would drag her to his family to confess. “Last year, my wife absconded with our children to her village without my consent, she later sent me a message that she had gotten to her family in Imo and that she is no longer interested in the marriage. “The children have stopped school since last term because my wife refused to bring them back to Lagos. “One of my children who was due to write common entrance missed it. “Her brother called me and told me that I should come and take the children that if I leave them for my wife, they may die of starvation. “Please grant me the custody of my children because my wife is not working, she cannot take care of them, she just wants to punish me by denying me access to them,” he said. Stephen, however, told the court not to grant his wife’s wish for the dissolution of their marriage, saying that he still loves her and the children will need a mother to live with. The petitioner, Mrs Ogechi Stephen, had approached the court seeking to end her 13-year-old marriage over frequent beatings and drunkenness. She said that her husband beat her on slightest provocation. “He always beat me during heated argument, I live every minute of my life in fear, our marriage had been turbulent and fraught with fights and quarrels, no peace of mind. “There was a day my husband threatened to pour fuel on me, as he was bringing the fuel towards me, I quickly ran for my dear life. “There was a night he was inciting incantation calling demonic power to kill me,” the estranged wife said. The 42-year-old woman said that her husband drinks and smokes heavily. “My husband drinks to stupor and smokes, after which he usually loses self-control,” she told the court. The mother of four said that her husband packed her belonging to her village claiming that he was no longer interested in the union. She begged the court to dissolve the union, saying that she was no longer in love with Stephen. The court president, Mr Adegboyega Omilola, adjourned the case to June 6, for further hearing. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/04/wife-sex-pastor-younger-brother-man-tells-court/ |
