Ibe Kachikwu, the minister of
state for petroleum
resources, has joined
President Muhammadu
Buhari in apologising to
Nigerians for the continuous
fuel crisis in the country and
promised that it will
end within the next two
days.
Speaking during his tour of
petrol stations in Abuja
yesterday, Mr Kachikwu
emphasized that the
Nigerian National Petroleum
Corporation (NNPC) has
increased supply of the
petrol products countrywide
and up to 300 truckloads of
fuel are provided to Abuja
daily.

The minister said: “We have
enough coming in. Obviously
the two days of strike hit us
very badly but we are
flooding in, getting an
average of 300 trucks a day
into Abuja. It’s going to take
a bit of while for the queues
to finish but we are hoping
that between the next one-
two days we should have the
queues all disappear because
we are continuing to pump
in, while a lot of the stations
are open 24 hours a day.
I apologise to Nigerians for
all the pains. Nobody wants
to see people spend two
hours on the fuel
queue. Talks had begun with
the CBN to help major oil
marketers in Nigeria access
foreign exchange to import
petrol into the country. We
are doing everything we can.
NNPC is taking the whole
nation on its shoulders while
majors are really not
bringing in product.

But we are working long
term solutions to majors to
now begin to go back to
importation lane and be able
to service their own outlets
rather than us servicing our
outlets, independents,
majors and servicing
everybody; its a lot of wear

obviously we have got to
systemically look at how do
you prepare this nation in
circumstances where there
are emergencies to be able
to respond. We are obviously
not getting that as well as
we should.”
It would be recalled that only
a day ago the Nigeria Union
of Petroleum and Natural Gas
Workers (NUPENG), in the
person of its south-west
chairman, Tokunbo Korodo,
said the current fuel scarcity
in the country might
continue till the end of this
month and even get worse.
Currently, motorists all over
the country are facing
massive queues at filling
stations,
while pedestrians are
fighting the same problem
at public transport stops . The
situation has
been aggravated by
frequent power shortages
that were attributed by
federal government to gas
failure as well as sabotage
and vandalization of the
power infrastructure.

President Muhammadu Buhari
has again expressed his
displeasure at how former
National Security Adviser, NSA, Col
Sambo Dasuki (rtd) handled
funds meant for purchase of
arms under the Goodluck
Jonathan administration.
Buhari in an interview with Al
Jazeera television aired on
Sunday and monitored by DAILY
POST, said the “sharing” of the
funds was responsible for the
boldness at which the Boko
Haram sect operated in recent
years.
He was reacting to a question by
the interviewer on controversial
use of security votes by office
holders.
“Why not scrap these votes
which end up in opaque
destinations?” the interviewer
quipped.
Responding, Buhari said while
security votes of his office, his
deputy’s, and a number of
officials in the executive arm had
been greatly reduced, plans were
on to extend such to states.
“We are trying to recover such
used for personal purposes.
“That is why we are prosecuting
those who shared monies meant
to procure hardware and
software for the military.
“It is easy to say we have not
recorded a high-profile
conviction but there must be
court processes.
“However, with the revelations
coming out from the arms probe,
you can imagine where Dasuki
will end up.”
It would be recalled that a
Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High
Court sitting in Abuja on Friday
struck out Dasuki’s application
seeking to stop his trial pending
his release from detention.
Justice Peter Affen held that the
former NSA was unable to prove
that the Economic and Financial
Crimes Commission, EFCC, was
holding him after he was
granted bail.
Affen maintained EFCC did not in
any way acted contrary to court
order because it did not have
Dasuki in its custody.

over 70 Tom Fords and Louis
Vuitton in your wardrobe. We
must reduce the allocation for
made-in-Nigeria goods and
services to the basics. “What are
those factors militating against
the production of these goods?
We must tackle them. We must
also begin to look at our
legislation then we will begin to
talk about made-in-Nigeria
goods.

Displeased with the comments,
Oshimohole replied on Friday,
saying Melaye “only displayed

a matter as private as his

to the unprovoked verbal
assault launched by one Senator
Dino Melaye on the Governor of
Edo State, Comrade Adams
Oshiomhole, while making a
contribution on the floor of the
Senate on the need to patronize
made-in-Nigeria goods,”
Oshiomhole said in a statement
by Peter Okhiria, his chief press
secretary.
“As a ‘nephew’ of the Governor
and members of the same party,
we expected Senator Melaye to
tender an unreserved public
apology to the Comrade
Governor, to no avail. “It is an
open secret that Senator Melaye
cannot maintain a decent
matrimonial home hence he
could descend to this
pedestrian level of using the
hallowed chambers to
‘cargorise’ women as if they
were pieces of items for
purchase. Any responsible
individual that is truly worth to
be called a Senator, a position
that convokes respect, decorum
and decent public conduct,
should know the limits of his
verbal diarrhoea.
“The liberty of free speech
guaranteed in the hallowed
chambers does not impose
lunacy on anyone to disparage
other Nigerians, let alone pry
into their matrimony in a very
derisive manner. We had
intended to ignore this
uncomplimentary comment as
one of the several empty
displays of the Senator, but the
fact that it tends to reduce
women to pieces of tissue calls
for this response. “As we
probed into Dino Melaye’s
humanity, we were reminded
that he is a man known for his
vainglorious rodomontade and
the childish display of his
ostentatious lifestyle
complements his love for
foreign items.
Many of such eurocentric
mentality he has persistently
displayed on social media, to
underscore his materialistic
eccentricity, hence his dialectical
opposition to made-in-Nigeria
goods. “But an attempt at
making women wear the garb
of goods to be picked off the
shelves was to take the issue to
a ridiculous and irresponsible
level. By delving into the private
affair and marriage of the
Comrade Governor, Senator
Melaye has exposed himself as a
simpleton and a court jester
whose words and tactlessness
cannot be taken seriously by
matured people. “We advise
that Melaye should mend his
ways with his ex-wife and
concubines before coming to
the village square to display his
crass ignorance and emptiness
to the Nigerian people.
“If he has anything to offer,
Dino Melaye should concentrate
on making good laws for the
people of Nigeria rather than

In a statement issued by his chief press secretary, Charles Ehiedu Aniagwu, Okowa prayed for the continued grace of good health and mind for chief Obasanjo.

“Chief Obasanjo, undoubtedly, exudes an inspiration very much needed at this stage of Nigeria’s socio-political and economic development and it is not for nothing that God has kept him as one of Nigeria’s guides,” Okowa said.

Okowa, who observed that chief Obasanjo does not beg issues said Nigeria needs such forthright leader, at all levels, if the country will see itself out of the woods of its myriad of challenges.

He recounted chief Obasanjo’s bold developmental legacies that dotted the Nigerian landscape from his days as a military head of state and as the civilian president between 1999 and 2007 and charged current leaders, both at the federal and state levels to buy into the elder statesman’s philosophy.

“Dear Chief Obasanjo, the remarkable achievements of your first and second sojourns as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria are indelible in the Oil & Gas, Steel, Banking as well as the Communication Sectors of the Nigeria Economy.

“In a life that has seen you become a Statesman amidst your achievements in public service and political endeavours, there is great cause for you, members of your family, your many associates, protégés and well-wishers to thank Almighty God for His benevolence upon you.

According to Aniagwu, the governor wished chief Obasanjo, a very happy 79th birthday celebration and prayed that God almighty grant him many more years of good health and strength to continue with his devotion to making Nigeria and Africa a better place for the people and all who live in it.

President Muhammadu Buhari in a statement issued by his media aide, Femi Adesina, warmly congratulated ex-president chief Olusegun Obasanjo in an early message for his 79 birthday on March 5, Saturday.

The president affirms that Obasanjo, who is approaching the octogenarian cycle has contributed immensely to the institutionalization of democracy in Nigeria and Africa through his personal sacrifice, extensive local and international networks, and God-given wisdom.

A female suicide bomber who
was recruited to take part
in last Tuesday’s bomb attacks
in Dikwa, Borno State, has
explained why she decided not
to detonate her own explosives.
Close to 60 people perished in
the Dikwa attack after two
young female suicide bombers
detonated themselves at a
refugee camp for internally
displaced persons (IDPs).
Eyewitnesses said the two
bombers detonated their
improvised explosive devices
(IEDs) at a kitchen in a refugee
camp. The explosives went off
at 5.45 p.m. as refugees in the
camp queued up for breakfast.
A third would-be suicide
bomber, who did not detonate
the explosives strapped to her
body, was arrested by some
civilians working with security
agents as she ran from the
scene of the mayhem.
One source, who was among a
group that caught the young
woman, told SaharaReporters
that the teenager was weeping
bitterly and asked people to stay
away from her, disclosing that
an IED was strapped to her
body.
According to our source, when
the young woman was asked
why she failed to detonate her
explosives, she said she was
shocked to see so many people
dead, adding that she did not
want her parents, who were in
the camp, to be killed.”
A Borno State government
official, Ahmed Satomi, also
confirmed the incident while
speaking to reporters on
Wednesday at the State
Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri,
the capital of Borno State.
“One of the suicide bombers
was arrested and confessed,”
said Mr. Satomi. He added that
the arrested teenager
confessed to soldiers that she
declined to detonate her bomb
in order not to have a hand in
an operation that might kill her
parents.
The IDP camp in Dikwa is the
largest refugee camp in Borno
State, with more than 53,000
people across five local
government areas staying there.
SaharaReporters learned that
58 people were confirmed dead
in last Tuesday’s attacks. In
addition, 78 people sustained
serious injuries when the twin
blasts hit the camp.

The unveiling ceremony took

Also in attendance was the

Among the event that took

Also, the home and away kits
which the team will be
dorning when the new
season kicks off, was
unveiled.
In his speech, chairman of
the club, Ogunsanya,
promised that Ikorodu
United will give Nigerian
football a new meaning.
“I am very grateful that today
(Thursday), we are launching
Ikorodu United. This is
something I have been
looking forward to. Our
target is to take Nigerian
football to the next level and
I can tell you that Ikorodu
United will be the first club to
sell season tickets.
“I am confident that the
players in this club will win
laurels. Also, I believe they
will go and play for big clubs
in the future,” Ogunsanya
enthused.
Formed in 2014, Ikorodu
United gained promotion to
the Glo Premier League last
season alongside MFM FC,

Tournadoes.

country into “fall-back positions”.
He said: “They are currently not

speak.”

President Buhari took the office,
while the president’s war against
corruption has encouraged
global confidence in the Nigerian
economy.

Arsenal manager Arsene
Wenger has warned his players
they are in for a "ferocious
battle" at Anfield on
Wednesday as Liverpool's
recent injury crisis begins to
ease.
The Barclays Premier League
leaders travel to Merseyside on
the back of a 3-1 win over
Sunderland in the FA Cup, while
they have not lost against
Liverpool in the last four matches
between the sides.
The fixture is one of the
competition's more traditionally
entertaining contests, with the
last nine top-flight meetings
between the clubs at Anfield
producing 35 goals.
Arsenal will hope their recent
record against Liverpool can help
continue a fine run of form that
has brought three straight
victories in all competitions,
while Wenger's men have been
beaten just once in their past 10.
But the Frenchman issued a
word of warning to his side as
Arsenal seek to keep their title
challenge on track.
"Momentum creates confidence
and that's vital at this level," he
told reporters. "Overall, in
December and January we have
been consistent and that's
important as we go into an
important part of the season
with many big games.
"Consistency is a good basis for
belief. Every time we go to
Anfield we face a team who are
up for it and it's always a
ferocious battle.
"[Liverpool manager] Jurgen
Klopp has the personality to do
well there, I don't think you can
explain their injuries by the
intensity of [Klopp's] game. [The
challenge we face is] to play our
game at a good pace but we are
used to that pressing. It is not
just Liverpool who do that."
Wenger is able to welcome back
midfielder Tomas Rosicky (knee)
for the encounter, while back-up
goalkeeper David Ospina (groin)
could return to the squad. But
Alexis Sanchez (hamstring),
Danny Welbeck (knee) and Jack
Wilshere (ankle) are still out.
Klopp has been dealing with an
injury crisis that forced him into
naming an entirely changed XI
for their 2-2 FA Cup draw at
League Two Exeter City on Friday,
and he has signed Queens Park
Rangers centre-back Steven
Caulker, who had been on loan at
Southampton this season, to
ease their concerns in defence.

Klopp continues to be without
Martin Skrtel, Dejan Lovren and
Philippe Coutinho (all hamstring).
But the Reds are hopeful of
having centre-backs Kolo Toure
and Mamadou Sakho (knee)
available, while Jordon Ibe,
Jordan Henderson and James
Milner could also feature as
Liverpool seek to end their
inconsistent recent top-flight
form.
The fixture is part of a tough
double-header with rivals
Manchester United set to visit
Anfield on Sunday, and Klopp has
urged his side to stand up and
be counted.
"It's always a big challenge to
play against clubs like Arsenal
and Manchester United," he said.
"But we have shown a plan
against good footballing teams.
"We have to make good
decisions in the right moment.
We are looking forward to these
games."

I remember one of President
Obama's key promise during his
first term campaign;
"I will shut down Guatanamo Bay
prisons. It is hypocritical of
America to be preaching
democracy and rule of law to the
world yet own a facility where
suspects are kept without trial
for many years. The shutting
down of that illegal detention
centre would be one of my first
executive order once I am sworn
in as the President of the United
States. " (Paraphrased)
As I write this, Obama is nearing
the end of his second term in
office and Guatanamo prison is
still standing and the US are still
detaining high risk suspects
there, some for upward of 10 to
15 years without trial or
prosecution in any law court
anywhere in the world.
Obama came to office as a green
horn in security matters. He did
not know that security issues are
not subject to campaign rhetoric.
I remember John McCain, his
Republican challenger, a war
veteran and a Senator of over 30
years, who had chaired several
Senate security committees in the
US Senate telling Obama he does
not know what he's talking
about!
You will wonder why Obama
kept silent on Guatanamo till
now? Now, he knows better.
That's why I laugh reading
Facebook 'activist' and
unrepentant Buhari bashers
pontificating and sermonising
over the rule of law after what
President Buhari said about
granting bail for individuals that
have serious case against the
state that pertains to security
issues.
What folks don't understand is
that the rule of law itself is
subject to the rule and right of a
nation when it pertains to the
security and wellbeing of the
people of a country against that
of a few individuals. That's why,
the USA that calls themselves the
land of freedom and the bastion
of democracy in the world do not
care about the rule of law when
it concerns the security of her
people. That supercede any rule
of law. Cry from today to eternity,
you are just wasting your time
and effort, America will ignore
you and do what they have to do.
Check this; the US flouted every
international law when the
President of the US ordered
special combat forces to go into
the territory of another
sovereign nation, Pakistan in
order to get Osama bin Laden.
Not only was Osama ordered to
be killed extra judicially but his
corpse was even buried at sea.
When I read a book detailing the
preparation for that mission by
one of the members of that
special force that entered into
Pakistan under the cover of the
night, you will realize that when
it comes to the security and
safety of the United States, they
are ready to flout any law. Now,
do you want to accuse Obama of
illegality? Has Pakistan sued
America at the World court? Also,
please who amongst the
vuvuzelas shouting themselves
hoarse on Facebook will pick up
the gauntlet and sue the
President of the US for killing
Osama bin Laden extra judicially?
Ohhh don't they think Osama bin
Laden has fundamental right to
fair hearing? Yeye people!
One of the reasons I supported
president Buhari came to fore
during his media chat. I am an
advocate of the rule of law and I
believe in it but personally I
believe we have to draw a line
when the rule of law comes into
conflict with security, safety and
the well being of citizens of a
given nation. You can't flagrantly
abuse the security and well being
of the people and come around
to shout about rule of law when
it's time to face the
consequences of your action. Our
judicial process must be
overhauled to conform with the
reality of the moment. America
knows this better. For once, this
country has a President that is
ready to lead! It's not that PMB
does not believe in the rule of
law. After all, this is a man that
was rigged out of election on
about 3 occasions but followed
the rule of law by going all the
way up to the Supreme Court to
seek redress.
What the President is saying to
whoever cares to listen is that,
when it comes to the safety, well
being and progress of this
nation no individual would use
the rule of law to escape justice.
That's why he said point blank
concerning the Shi'ite issue that
you can't have a state inside a
state! It's either folks are ready
to shape up or ship out! This
country has been thrown to the
dogs, it's high time we take it
back and put it on the path of
sanctity. Enough of lilly livered
leadership, it's time to run this
country according to dictates of
the time we live in.
If you don't like it, sorry, we have
a country to run and you will
have to excuse us.

Jonathan is set to undergo
questioning from operatives of
the Economic and Financial
Crimes Commission (EFCC) over
the notorious arms deal
scandal.
Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan
Reports suggest that the anti-
graft agency may secretly write
to the ex-president whose name
it claims has consistently come
up in the investigation into the
scandal.
The former national security
adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.),
was reported to have said he
disbursed funds from his office
based on the instructions of the
former president.
An EFCC source said the agency
has no plans to invite the former
president but “we may write him
to tell us his own side of the
story because his name has been
coming up in our
investigations?” The Punch
reports.

The agency claims it needs the
clearance of the president to
write to Jonathan.
In a related development, the
EFCC may have concluded
arrangements to invite some
chieftains of the Peoples

chairman of the party, Chief Tony
Anenih, a former deputy national
chairman, Chief Bode George,
and others who were alleged to
have received part of the funds
meant for arms procurement.
“You see, this is an investigation.
In a situation like this, the
commission has a thin chance of
not inviting those whose names
have been thrown up.
“They have to be invited to make
clarifications; it does not
necessarily mean that they have
been indicted but it is only a
standard procedure for them to
appear to make clarifications
where necessary.
“I think by now, Anenih, Bode
George and all those who were
mentioned during the
investigation should have been
invited but the commission has
not been given the directive to
pick them up.
“They know what they are doing.
Anytime from now, possibly this
week, they will be invited,”
