Ever since President Buhari won the 2015 Presidential elections he was destined to win having labored in 2003, 2007, 2011 and then 2015 a very vast preponderance of South South and South East indigenes have descended on the President, pouring invectives, calling him names, abusing his person and his exalted office, preaching hate, and ethnic divisions. I have followed this dangerous trend over a year now, and it is not abetting. It is growing like wild fire everyday. In recent times the South-South people whose son lost the election have moved on except the criminal avengers who are fighting for their pockets only and destroying their environment. I have seen spirited and genuine efforts being made by the leaders of South-South to bring peace to the Niger Delta, and I heartily commend them for this. It is in their own interest. But in the South East, our people have refused to move on. In the diaspora, in Nigeria, in schools, in the markets, on the streets, in Churches, in Town Meetings etc Igbo have refused to move on. Every move the President makes to rebuild and reposition the country is abused, castigated and ethnic meaning read into it. The dangerous trend has become so embarrassing that one is compelled to speak out. While leaders of South-South have made interventions to make way for harmony and peaceful co-existence, Igbo leaders have maintained a deafening silence but this silence is no longer golden. Ethnic bigotry and hate speeches our people both at home and abroad dish out everyday endanger our people living in all parts of Nigeria. President Buhari belongs to a section of Nigeria and must not run away with the thinking that his people will be happy and clap for us when we malign and abuse one of their own. No ethnic group in Nigeria moves and settles in any part of the country like the Igbo. They settle and do business in almost every part of the country, and when we throw stones to other Nigerians, we endanger their lives and their businesses. The worst sets of Igbo guilty of this dangerous trend are those living outside the country. While some of them are engaged in meaningful employment, many of them are unemployed. They have become economic refugees and cultural savages. They have formed an association of hate preachers and wailing bigots. They have through actions and deeds created millions of enemies for Ndigbo in Nigeria while they waste their precious gift of time abroad doing nothing. Last week the Vice of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo was in Afe Babalola University Ekiti State as Guest Speaker during the University’s Convocation ceremony. In the cause of his speech, he told his capacity audience the Niger Delta Avengers are not freedom fighters but those fighting for their pockets only. I saw the story on facebook and other sites on the internet. The one on Facebook caught my attention because of nearly 400 reactions as at the time I read it. I took mental note of the reactions and the names attached to it. 95% are Igbo names and they abused and called the Vice President unprintable names for speaking the truth. This is a shame. Ignorance should not be a virtue. Ignorance is a disease. Foolishness is a tragedy. This is ignorance stupid. This is mental darkness. A roaring lion kills no game. It is only a river that wants to get dried up that forgets its source. A Chinese proverb tells me that “He who blames others has a long way to go on his journey. He who blames himself is half way there. He who blames no one has arrived.” Now, it is time for the Igbo to move on and join other Nigerians to begin the process of rebuilding Nigeria. I want Igbo Governors, elected Senators, elder statesmen, House of Reps Members, House of Assembly members, political leaders, traditional rulers, Igbo intellectuals, professionals, market leaders, town union leaders, village heads, etc. to rise up to defend the integrity and honor of Igbo race. Are these ignorant ones who preach hate speaking for us? Are they representing us? Are they our brightest and bests? Are those asking for Biafra and using it as business venture speaking for all of us? Have we taken a look at the situation in South Sudan today? Shall we continue to sleep pretending that all is well? Can we be honest enough to see the real danger ahead? For how long will our leaders continue to be silent on these weighty issues? Can elders continue to sleep while the kids wear snakes as necklaces? Can the young teach tradition to the old? Who will bell the cat in Igboland? Who will call the ignorant kids to order? Did the Yoruba go to war when June 12 1993 Presidential Election won by their illustrious son Chief MKO Abiola was annulled on June 23rd 1993 on a sheet of paper by IBB? Did Yoruba go to war when Abiola’s wife Alhaja Kudirat Abiola was murdered in Lagos in the morning of Jun 4 1996? Did Yoruba go to war when the winner of that historic election was poisoned on July 7 1998? Did Yoruba go to war when those who killed Abiola imposed Obasanjo on them as President in 1999? Did Yoruba accept Chief Ernest Shonekan when IBB made him to head the interim government in 1993? Yoruba rejected OBJ and Shonekan because this unique race has never been slaves to public office and yet they have remained number one in Nigeria in almost everything. This is wisdom and strategic thinking at work. Those of us who have lived in Yoruba land for years should not only learn how to wear Aso Ebi, eat Ewedu soup or dance Owambe, music. We must have also learned other unique things from them like sharing property to both male and female children, religious tolerance, ethnic tolerance, transferring legacies from generation to generation. Do you know that APC National Leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s wife is a Christian? Do you know that former Governor Fashola’s wife is a Christian? We can learn a lot from Yoruba. Yoruba too can learn from Igbo in areas of thinking home, business enterprise, self-help, apprenticeship, etc. A Yoruba woman, a Pastor Mrs. Eunice Olawale Elisha of the Redeemed Christian Church of God old NEPA Road Phase 4 Kubwa, Abuja was killed by unknown persons on Saturday morning of July 9, 2016, while preaching the gospel around 5.30am. I have followed the reactions on the internet and Yoruba do not behave like the Igbo. They have been speaking but not preaching hate. They have called for the culprits to be fished out, prosecuted and punished. If Mrs. Eunice Elisha had been an Igbo hell would have been let loose. There would have been abuses and abuses. But Yoruba are not Igbo. This is civilization. This is strategic thinking. I hope our people can learn from this. Civility is not a sign of weakness. He who fights and run away lives to fight another day. To have ears is not to listen, to listen is not to hear, to hear is not to understand, to understand is not to put to practice. I know that writing this may not get me many friends among the Igbo, but it always gets me the right ones. Case Rested! Retired Colonel Sambo Dasuki, former national security adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan, has declared his readiness for trial over the alleged $15 billion arms deals facilitated by his office, The Nation has reported. Former national security adviser, Sambo Dasuki, in court The report said Dasuki further protested his continued detention adding that he only obeyed the directive of former President Goodluck Jonathan as dictated by civil service rules. “I am ready for trial because they have destroyed my family’s name and my professional integrity, especially how we successfully fought Boko Haram and recovered major towns and cities, not villages. “They should let my trial start in earnest to enable Nigerians know the truth from falsehood. “I don’t believe in secret trial and there is no basis for it because the government has filed all necessary papers in court and attached the list of witnesses. “Since the witnesses have become public knowledge, there is no basis for secret trial,” Dasuki reportedly said through his associates and further queried his continued detention without warrant. READ ALSO: Jonathan’s cousin received money from NNPC not Dasuki – Witness “Since I was detained in the custody of the Department of State Service (DSS), I have not been shown any warrant to this effect or court order. “I deserve to be shown the warrant of detention by DSS and the purpose for restricting me to house arrest. My detention is unlawful,” he complained pleading with Nigerians to prevail on the government to admit him to bail in line in obedience to the government’s commitment to the rule of law. “All those who collected funds from ONSA have been granted bail but I am still in custody. “I have been granted bail on all the cases filed against me by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and even DSS, but I have not been released. “If all the beneficiaries of the so-called funds are on bail, what have I done wrong? Nigerians should help prevail on the government to grant me bail. “I cannot rock the boat. I am prepared for trial. We did everything with national and security interest,” he said. “Based on the service rules in the security circle, I owe it a duty to obey the president and Commander-In-Chief. Ex-President Jonathan approved all the expenses incurred by ONSA. “I am ready to prove in court how we complied with the directive of the ex-President,” he added. https://www.naij.com/884240-15b-dasuki-finally-speaks-prison-indicts-jonathan.html?f&poster=11030

I am really at a loss about how to respond to the column of my friend, Femi Orebe on the 8th Senate. He correctly identified my exasperation with things as they are. But more than being exasperated, Orebe might never understand the magnitude of the harrowing sorrow I daily feel pertaining in general to the sordid affairs of my country and in particular to the nadir of disrepute to which the senate has been sunk. So discouraged have I been of late that by last week, I had begun to see myself as a colossal failure in my foray into Nigerian politics. I had seriously considered going back to Ilesa Grammar School, my alma mater, to teach science. Sola Adeyeye In my previous incarnations as an academic and as a business man, failure or giving up had never been a considered option. In these earlier enterprises, my success or lack of it was largely dependent on my efforts and determination. By contrast, as a politician, I have perennially found myself walking and dancing in paths littered with opalaba (pieces of broken glass bottles). My success now depends almost equally or perhaps even more on others than on myself! I foresaw the current crisis in the eighth senate long before its inauguration on June 9, 2015. I pleaded endlessly with Senators Bukola Saraki and Ahmad Lawan for a consensus that would make one of them the Senate President and the other the Deputy Senate President. I requested to lock both of them in a room and to open the room only after they have reached a consensus or after one of them had killed the other! Had my efforts succeeded, my party, the Senate and my country might have been spared the crisis of the last many months. Candidate Buhari campaigned on a platform that included a determined assault on corruption; he was hailed and resoundingly elected because a majority of Nigerians believed he was preeminently qualified to wage and win that war. I have always felt that if such a war were to be diligently waged, there will not be enough rooms in Nigerian prisons to hold public office holders who would be found guilty. And if the truth be told, these might include most of those supporting Saraki as well as most of those opposed to him! And I am talking here of supporters and opponents either from within or outside the National Assembly. The interview I granted to Tell magazine in 2009 revealed enough on crass legislooting. Many have wondered why I have been less vocal as a senator than I was during my tenure as a member of the House of Reps. I feel great pain when insinuations are made that I had been bought. Those pains rose to the fore following the publication of the phone numbers of all senators by Sahara Reporters. I am probably the only Senator in Nigeria who has only one phone number. It would have been easy to get a new phone number. These days, phones come with apps that can filter out calls from numbers that are not on the phone's contact list. Perhaps my error was my refusal to take either of these easy options. Instead, I chose to answer as many calls and texts as possible. They came in a deluge! I got calls from the UK, USA, Canada, Germany and far away Australia. A few of the messages included racy photographs from ladies who obviously had little interest in matters of public policy! About half of the calls from within Nigeria were solicitations for help in securing employment or in getting financial assistance. Mercifully, some prayed for and encouraged me to keep faith. Some made legitimate enquiries and did so in quite civil language and tone. Others like Dokun Adedeji were unkind and needlessly rude. I had taken a decision to respond to each call or text message in its own tone. I would match civility for civility, diligence with diligence, rudeness for rudeness, and curse for curse. Contrary to the accusation of Dokun Adedeji, I did not partake of selling my party's majority to reactionaries. I have I betrayed no one. Rather, on many occasions, I have informed my party caucus, APC leaders, and my senate colleagues of my readiness to give up my office as Chief Whip for the sake of resolving the most embarrassing quagmire in the senate. I did so as recently as last Wednesday during the Executive session of the senate. In decrying my choice of deprecatory epithets to respond to Dokun Adedeji, Femi Orebe obviously saw no wrong in my being unfairly portrayed as a sellout. Orebe also left out my latter response to Dokun Adedeji that included my reasons for not to speaking on some matters. Back in High School, there was a Negro Spiritual we often sang "NOBODY KNOWS THE TROUBLE I SEE." Two days ago (Friday, April 22), I was on my way to Osogbo so I could see my Governor and thereafter proceed to Ora Igbomina, my hometown, when I got a call summoning me to Abuja for a meeting with the President at 3 p.m. I made an immediate U-turn racing to the Ibadan Airport while praying for a miracle to catch a flight. I was panting and sweating by the time I boarded the plane which miraculously had waited for me. The plane took off immediately I took my seat. However, as I switched on my phone after landing in Abuja, an sms message was delivered with a message that the meeting in the villa has been postponed! Despite the intense pain and sorrows that I have borne in the last many months, I remain grateful to God for the rare opportunity to serve as a senator of my country. I am particularly grateful to Femi Falana who counseled me last week not to resign as Senator. Although every forest begins with a tree, I have found out that the adage that a tree does not make a tree is particularly most apt in the forest of politics. Although Dokun Adedeji's text did not say so, perhaps his vilification is not directed at me personally as Orebe alluded. Perhaps! Hence, I apologize to Dokun, Femi Orebe and others whom I have disappointed for taking the issues so personal. We live and learn. The Ekiti state government says it will not react to claims by Tope Aluko – The special assistant to the governor described Aluko as a an unstable character Ayodele-Fayose Governor Ayodele Fayose The Ekiti state government has said that it will not reply to claims by Tope Aluko, that he was forced into reconciling with Governor Ayodele Fayose . This was contained in a statement issued by Lere Olayinka, the special assistant to the Ekiti state governor on public communication and new media on Wednesday, April 6. Olayinka accused Aluko of being “a perjurer and an unstable character, who speaks from both sides of his mouth.” READ ALSO: APC leaders begged for my return – Osoba “As far as we are concerned, the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State, which would be willing to accommodate even Judas Iscariot or the notorious armed robber, Lawrence Anini, (if he were to be alive), could keep Temitope Aluko in its fold – that is their business.” “We don’t want a Judas in the PDP and anywhere near the government and that has been made clear,” he said. Lere Olayinka had earlier reacted to the reconciliation between Ayodele Fayose and Temitope Aluko , the former secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state. He wondered how Aluko could return to the same Governor Fayose that he claimed rigged election because “he lacked integrity.” https://www.naij.com/790182-aluko-perjurer-unstable-character-speaks-sides-mouth.html?source=index_main

The timely response from Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM) in supporting the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) by providing jet parts has enabled the NAF sustain its operations against the Boko Haram insurgents. This first of its kind effort on our part has attracted the global audience as we were featured on CNN as the first Nigerian car maker to make jet parts and take NAF to the sky in fighter jets. To further solidify this patriotic act and ensure the continuous supply of the fighter jet parts to NAF, the Chief of Air Force ably represented by Air Vice Marshal, J. M. Gbum and other top ranking Air Force Officials visited our Nnewi facility yesterday (on the 29th of March, 2016) to finalize the contract of supplying fighter jet parts to NAF. The revisit to the facility, culminated with a signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between IVM and NAF. With this finalized arrangement, we are not only conquering the ground with our automobile brands, we are also helping NAF to conquer the air and defeat Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria. innosonmotors.com/ivm-signs-mou-with-naf/

Rising star who wore the Three Lions at youth level has now played two friendlies for the country of his birth and could be tied to them by this Friday SHARES COMMENTS Young Gunn: Iwobi is officially a Nigeria player if he faces Egypt on Friday or next Tuesday The FA are making a last-ditch bid to try to stop Arsenal starlet Alex Iwobi committing his international future to Nigeria. New kid on the block Iwobi is at the centre of a tug of war between England and Nigeria again after becoming a regular in the Gunners' first team set-up since the turn of the year. The 19-year-old has started three of Arsenal’s last four games and capped his full Premier League debut at Everton on Saturday with a man-of-the-match display and his first Gunners goal. Forward Iwobi has already slipped through England’s fingers once, having played for the Three Lions’ Under-16, U17 and U18 sides before choosing to represent Nigeria — the country of his birth. In pictures — Arsenal beat Everton 2-0 at Goodison Park: Iwobi – nephew of former Super Eagles captain Jay Jay Okocha – has played in two friendlies for Nigeria, but won’t be officially tied to them until he plays a competitive game. That has left the door open for the FA to try to persuade him to switch back and represent England - but they are facing a race against time. Have your say in our comments section below Family guy: Bolton legend Jay Jay Okocha (right) is Iwobi's uncle Iwobi is in line to make his competitive debut THIS WEEK after being named in Nigeria’s squad for their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double header against Egypt, who they host this Friday before the away return next Tuesday. That has prompted desperate late attempts from the FA to try to get Iwobi to change his mind. There is no suggestion Iwobi will be fast-tracked into the senior England set-up and handed a premature call-up. But FA chiefs do see him as a potential future Three Lions international and know their hopes of landing him will be dashed if he plays in Nigeria’s upcoming games. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has backed up the FA’s views on Iwobi by giving the youngster a glowing reference. Read more: Arsenal starlet Alex Iwobi profiled after his first Prem goal He is understood to have told the FA the player has a big future at the North Londoners and, having let him get away once, they should do everything possible to try to get him back. www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/england-launch-last-gasp-alex-7597846?ICID_mirror_MF

Ibe Kachikwu, the minister of state for petroleum resources, has joined President Muhammadu Buhari in apologising to Nigerians for the continuous fuel crisis in the country and promised that it will end within the next two days. Speaking during his tour of petrol stations in Abuja yesterday, Mr Kachikwu emphasized that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has increased supply of the petrol products countrywide and up to 300 truckloads of fuel are provided to Abuja daily. READ ALSO: FG reveals the cause of recent epileptic power and apologises to Nigerians The minister said: “We have enough coming in. Obviously the two days of strike hit us very badly but we are flooding in, getting an average of 300 trucks a day into Abuja. It’s going to take a bit of while for the queues to finish but we are hoping that between the next one- two days we should have the queues all disappear because we are continuing to pump in, while a lot of the stations are open 24 hours a day. I apologise to Nigerians for all the pains. Nobody wants to see people spend two hours on the fuel queue. Talks had begun with the CBN to help major oil marketers in Nigeria access foreign exchange to import petrol into the country. We are doing everything we can. NNPC is taking the whole nation on its shoulders while majors are really not bringing in product. READ ALSO: Fuel Scarcity: Strike not called off – PENGASSAN But we are working long term solutions to majors to now begin to go back to importation lane and be able to service their own outlets rather than us servicing our outlets, independents, majors and servicing everybody; its a lot of wear and tear on our capabilities as a status. Long term obviously we have got to systemically look at how do you prepare this nation in circumstances where there are emergencies to be able to respond. We are obviously not getting that as well as we should.” It would be recalled that only a day ago the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), in the person of its south-west chairman, Tokunbo Korodo, said the current fuel scarcity in the country might continue till the end of this month and even get worse. Currently, motorists all over the country are facing massive queues at filling stations, while pedestrians are fighting the same problem at public transport stops . The situation has been aggravated by frequent power shortages that were attributed by federal government to gas failure as well as sabotage and vandalization of the power infrastructure. https://www.naij.com/762355-nigerias-crippling-fuel-crisis-will-end-two-days-kachikwu-promises.html |
