website-geeks: 1) Contact us page: doesn't validate email 2) I think that spinning thing around "geeks" has to go - it's literally making me dizzy. |
1) Home page -> Picture gallery -> Error in opening images 2) Contact me: Form doesn't validate and also sends me to a white page, which looks nothing like the other pages 3) Adediji's photo is on pretty much every page. Na only am dey? 4) Newsletter sign up: same as #2 above. 5) http://www.bodeadediji09.com/Agenda.html -> image, bottom right -> "opinion are important" -> bad english 6) "The journey so far" image: not clickable 7) Use of inline css and tables -> bad 8 ) Header animation: try and get more than the one image that is "flashing" currently. If you have just one, no need impressing anyone with your flash skills. Just make it a static image. |
if course he does. Where are your senses of humor? ![]() |
will someone tell me i need to go into cafe business, the best Internet Service Provider in nigeria todayOkay, I will tell you: You need to go into cafe business, the best Internet Service Provider in nigeria today ![]() |
It's all good. By the way, I like the orange shirt you are wearing there ![]() |
remoranger, dos this ring a bell? half baked developersAnyways, it's the last you will hear from me on this issue. And no, Seun has no hand in this. I can pick a fight with the best of them but it has to be relevant to the discussion. I don't see how yours is, though if it is, I beg of you to enlighten me. |
(Putting my moderator hat on) remo, it seems you are eager to pick a fight. If i were the stereotype type of person, I would say it is based on your location where as I joked earlier, Warri boys no dey ever take last, highest na draw, but I won't stoop so low. Please desist from being a catalyst. Moreover, yours is unsolicited. I am referring to your "half baked" comment and not the first one, which to me is fair game. Arguments are allowed, they just have to be civil. Let's try and stick to this rule. Thanks (Taking off moderator hat, putting coder hat back on, going back to work) |
Another quiz: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-294974.0.html ![]() |
Here is another tricky issue to deal with: You have a header area for your site like so: <div id="header">blah</div>The header has some background which you of course, via css, code it like so: div#header { width: 900px; background:#fff url(images.gif) no-repeat left top; }You are feeling good about yourself until you ask me to review it. I then notice that whereas the background displays well in FF, it looks chopped off in IE. Why, based on the code above, would this be the case? What is the solution? As always, I await your answers. |
I am always afraid of -ve margins. Makes me shudder cos for one, ie browsers tend not to treat it well ![]() Back to your issue: Well, I was coding blind, I must confess. If you would, point us to a url and specify where the problem is, for better results. It is doable. I just need to see it for myself. |
remo: and why don't launch the first salvo(s)? ![]() Anyways, I personally don't comment on blogs, forums (especially one that looks exactly like nairaland, except for theme/colors) or CMS sites for that matter (unless they go out of their way to really, really customize it). Why? Because the core of the code isn't original. No offense to anyone. |
I also had this problem last week. What browser did you try opening the file with? For me, it was FF3.5. What I did was get the latest adobe reader, which should be at least version 9. This worked for me. If this doesn't work for you, try clearing your cache, deleting all cookies, closing your browser and relaunching. If this still doesn't work and you are using a non-ie browser, uninstall it and re-install. Alas, if all this doesn't work, just download the regular reader and whenever you want to view pdfs, just save the file and open it locally. good luck! |
bugs: First it was "scourge". Now it is "cover face with hands in shame". Hmm, I don't see things this way. Even if you were to ask how to make text bold, it is no different, as far as I am concerned, from asking how to query a database. Anyways, if I understand your question, you keep the 2 divs aligned by floating them left, then clearing the float immediately after. If you are still having them not aligned after floating, check their widths and that of the container div. For example (ignoring proper coding for illustrative purposes): <div style="width: 100px;">The above 2 inner divs won't align. Why"? Because though their 2 widths = 100px, the margin-left has added an extra width of 10px thus making it 110px actually. This is what the box-model theory is all about. So your solution would be to either add 10px to the containing div, reduce the width of one of the inner divs or get rid of the margin. Also, clearing "all" ensures that the elements revert back to being in the flow of the document. Otherwise, you have a situation where those floated div "bleed" through the container. Does this answer your question? If not, let me know by being more specific. Thanks, |
bugs: scourge? lojik: shivering? ROFLMAO! Even if you were both wrong, what would be wrong with that? At least by me answering it correctly, you learn something which is the most important part. It's not like we are sitting face to face where people might turn and say, "I can't believe he didn't know that" LOL The most efficient answer is lojik's. I would however make a few suggestions, albeit it's correct: 1) since your css rules, being applied just to the body, are unique, i would go with ID and not CLASS. 2) For your rules, when there are equal pairs of numbers or letters (like FF0000), you can make the code shorter like so: background-color: #ff0; Might not mean much for a small site but for a site that is hit by millions, a byte here and there adds up. So there you have it - question answered. No one shivers. No scourges LOL. Now, if I were in a position to hire people over there, these are the type of questions I would ask (hint, hint )Let me think of another question. Expect it soon ![]() |
yeah lojik: Other than the left column, joomla is very subtle. It looks cool too, to me ![]() I too, though I have been reading and following joomla for 2 years now, just implemented my first joomla website last month. I was a little scared to be honest but it came out pretty okay. My main fear was integrating my code with the joomla code and to make matters worse, the book I read, though it said joomla 1.5, was using legacy code and the admin panel flagged it as such. See as babes dey panic, he he. I ended up viewing the source of one of the pre-packaged templates and reusing its code before the "legacy" warning went away. Once again, cool joomla site, layout-wise. |
Just curious. I was listening to the radio last night when a doctor was talking about something and happened to mention his org's site. I was expecting something "run-of-the-mill" but must confess that I was impressed at what I saw. I even was more impressed when I noticed a few joomla-type features which made me view source and verify that it was indeed joomla. What do you think? http://www.docs4patientcare.org/ What cool joomla sites have you come across? Note: I am not saying this is the best. I am saying this is the best I have seen so far |
poster: Always try to utilize nairaland's search feature first as trust me, you aren't the first to write/post on this matter: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-275317.0.html https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-137583.0.html https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-73953.0.html https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-17901.0.html Good luck! |
dhtml: Strolled by cos you don't know the answer or it is beneath you? ![]() lojik: What is in it for you? A chance to LEARN something which, though not monetary, is bound to increase your knowledge base/skill set, 2 things that can help increase your worth in the long run ![]() Now, let's try that again. Any takers? ![]() |
Time will tell, remoranger. Una warri boys sef, una no dey ever lose. Highest na draw ![]() |
smartsoft: huh? ![]() |
Of course, since this doesn't involve any site reviews and/or gun powder and actually involves learning, no one is willing to respond. It's alright though. I still await answers. Come on everybody, letz all LEARN something! |
This board is getting boring. How about a quiz to bring it back to life? ![]() Suppose you have 3 files, all governed by the same CSS, say nl.css. Now, suppose you want each of the files to have a small variation, in our case, page A has a bgcolor of red, page B has a bgcolor of yellow and page C has a bgcolor of blue. How do you give each page, via CSS, its individual bgcolor treatment, from within nl.css? In other words: 1) You can't use inline styles 2) You can't use a page-level stylesheet If you need further clarification, do not hesitate to ask. I await your answers ![]() |
Sort of similar: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-192488.0.html |
This might help: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-2620.0.html Always use nairaland's search feature. As someone who has been around for a long time, I can say with confidence that we have pretty much covered everything under the sun ![]() Good luck! |
u r even lucky you can upgrade. Most hosts that I know restrict the number of emails you can send on a shared server, by default. The only solution, if you want to call it an upgrade, would be to move to a dedicated server or better yet, get a server of your own. Good luck! |
probably flagged for spam |
Hopefully you have backups, both locally and on your host's server as well. Also notify your host. As for recurring, your site is only as safe as your host's protection/your code so it would be nice to know what kind of site/app you were running so as to offer possible solutions. Thanks, |
poster no offense but your problems with FP imply to me that you lack the basics as far as xhtml is concerned. So I would buy a book and or visit www.w3schools.com for tutorials. Once you get a grasp on what's up, you will be able to debug code on any WYSIWYG. Good luck! |
he he, after the sun news hack attack,i posted something on here and the guy responded almost instantly. In general, the board has been quiet today (July 3, 2009) so chances are he isn't online. I believe his name is feyisara but I could be wrong. No worries, sooner or later, word will get around to him, directly or indirectly and I am sure he will respond ![]() |
I think this question is best answered by the school(s) that are looking for such a teacher. My point: No need reading 100 books if the schools where you will be applying on average may only need 5. Personally, I would say that IT is very broad and so I think the first step is for you to find your niche and read whatever the latest trend(s) is/are for that particular field. Good luck! |
To Whom It May Concern: First and foremost, I would like to thank you for taking care of the issue that brought down your site for a few days. Hopefully you have added measures in place to prevent google/chrome from popping the warning screen to your website visitors. I have noticed something for a few weeks now but have only now remembered to post about it - if you scroll down to the bottom of your home page, you will notice a whole section of links which IMHO require a microscope to read. I always skip this part of the page as a result as I figured perhaps only those with say, knowledge of the secret handshake know what the links say. I hereby call on you to please increase the font of the links at the bottom of your home page. This isn't just about me but others who, through clicking such links, could result in more ad revenue for you. In anticipation of your changes, I remain your faithful visitor of 4 years. yawa |
