Politics / Re: Airforce Invents Bomb Detecting Robot To Fight Boko Haram by yeboyes: 2:54pm On Jul 23, 2013
chess guru:
So which one do you want? The one that is spiritually existing.
They didn't buy or assemble the robot from anyone or from a manual. Hence they invented. Pls note that unless you are fully aware of all the specs of the nigerian version of the robot, you cannot fully disband this innovation as not being an invention simply because there are other robots out their doing similar function.
I use a simple analogy. You can't say the Iphone isn't an invention simply becos the concept of the smart phone was invented before the iphone. J̶̲̥̅̊u̶̲̥̅̊S̤̥̈̊τ̲̣̣̥ as you can't say the smart phone isn't an invention simply becos the telephone was invented by Bell before the smart phone.
You can only dismiss the iphone as an invention if there exist another phone exactly like the iphone doing exactly what it does.
The fact that the technology is already existing is a well know fact, but the presence of a technology doesn't negate the innovative creation (aka invention) of a product within that niche.
We should learn to be open minded and focus on the content of stories, and not on journalistic theatrics that characterize nigerian headlines.

Arguments like this makes the claims of the Airforce look dubious. This is the major problem we have in Nigeria,we are never straight forward in our claims or dealings. We always want to claim beyond what we have achieved just like Philip Emeagwali claimed to have invented the internet only to exposed as fraud a few years later. The Airforce did not invent anything ,they only developed an homegrown version of an existing invention. Kai naija and claiming. undecided

If Americans read through this thread they will rubbish these claims and even belittle our Airforce. Let us be honest and straight forward for once,is that too much to ask? Yes our Airforce built their own Bomb detonation robot and we are proud of them for that but they DID NOT INVENT the technology. We don't even have a picture or video demonstration of their robot, yet you are making false claims. The more you claim they invented it ,the more you ridicule their efforts.Imagine if a Nigerian scientists make a new headache drug that has paracetamol as one of it main ingredients then claim he invented paracetamol,he will be made a laughing stock of by the medical industry. Please stop this "invention" claims as you are turning the whole thing into one big joke.

Spot on! Na laziness dey kill our journalists. I wonder how hard it will be to make an appointment with the Airforce and take photos of the actual robot. It will be nice to see what our Airforce personal developed instead of this American version.

euromilion: Hello guys,

Am not familiar with lekki axis, but I know that most of d land are gov acquired,so pls share whatever that u know concerning this place called dominion gardens that everyone is advertising here,.share anything whether good or bad .

Cheers

I am in the same position as you. What irks me about all these developers is the lazy and unprofessional way they market their lands. If you look at what obtains in other countries developers put their clients minds to rest because :

They have a verifiable company registration certificate
They have a website
They post pictures of all their official agents online so that buyers can identify them
They provide you copies of land registration documents issued by the state Government
They provide crystal clear photos of the site and on going work
They provide a google map outline of the estate location
They provide you the set of rules under which the estate will be managed

Most of these developers do not have any of the above.I find it ludicrous that in this day and age ,developers who are in charge of lands worth millions do not have a website.I find it ludicrous that these developers are not confident enough to post their pictures online so that we can identify who they are and be rest assured.Go to any property website outside Nigeria and you will see the photograph of the agent involved in the land proudly posted on their website.

We Nigerians never follow due procedure and just do things anyhow hence why there is no peace of mind when buying lands or doing property deals in Nigeria.I hope they become more professional straight forward in their dealings. The Lagos state Government too are useless because i have never seen a country where developers can sell land when they have not been issued official documents for those lands.

At least with Mowe Ofada we saw some pictures of the estates and their gate houses. With Ibeju lekki developers we don't see anything,no pictures of the land ,no pictures of the gate house. Please developers step up your game and be professional ,there are many people who get turned off by your lack of professionalism.

I have been planning on shipping a 40ft container to Nigeria from Namibia but i was recently told by my shipping company that i have to provide them a form M as required by Nigerian customs. Now i have checked on the Nigerians customs website and it seems the process of getting the form M is very hectic and time consuming.

Please note that the items i am shipping are brand new personal effects which i want to use in my house,i don't understand why they are making it so complicated for us to ship our items home.I am also considering shipping the items to cotonue - Benin and bring them into Nigeria through the border but i am not sure if this is a good idea. Can the shipping agents or experienced shippers on NL please advise me on what to do.Thank you in Advance.

miklos23: By Taiye Odewale, Abuja

Upon resumption from its current two weeks mid-term recess, the National Assembly may veto into law, its bill on the State of the Nation Address, which mandates President Goodluck Jonathan to present his scorecard before a joint session of the Federal lawmakers in the first week of July, which is not yet assented to by the president.

The State of the Nation Address Bill 2013 was passed into law by both the Senate and the House of Representatives last month and immediately transmitted to the Presidency for the required assent to meet the first week of July date for the Presidential address starting from this year.

But as at yesterday, when the Chairman, Senate Committee on Rules and Business, Senator Ita Enang, briefed the Senate Press Corps on the status of bills and motions passed by the Senate within the last one year, there was no indication yet that President Jonathan has assented to the bill.

Politics / Re: Nigerian Deportee From Kenya Narrates Ordeal by yeboyes: 10:06pm On Jun 09, 2013
[b]Story story! The fact that he is an Anambra boy makes me believe he is a Drug Baron.Just go to South Africa and see how Igbos of Anambra extraction are dealing in drugs. The same Anambra boys own almost 40% of the hotels in Hillbrow ( a drug dealing zone). These are where they stash their drugs and conduct their business. These Anambra boys operate like the Chinese Mafia in South Africa. They are into every crime imaginable,Drug Dealing ,Prostitution rings,419 e.t.c you will find Anambra boys there.Just ask any body in South Africa about Mariston Hotel or Mimosa Hotel. The South African Government had to shut down Mimosa hotel because of complaints they received from concerned South Africans. The hotel was inhabited by Anambra boys and a was drug and prostitution haven. They even have documentaries on Youtube where these Anambra boys were openly confessing to dealing drugs on CAMERA!

They have a tight network all over Africa from Nigeria to Kenya all the way to South Africa. It is the same network of boys. There is no smoke without fire ,if they say they found drugs in his house i believe the Kenyan police.I know Nigerians who have been in Kenya for more than 15 years and they have never had any problems with the police. As ususal these Anambra Igbos always bring shame and dishonour to the Nigerian name. All those people being deported are his colleagues in the drug game.

You should see what kenyans are saying about this guy on twitter ,he is a well known drug dealer who loves bragging about his crimes in the club situated in his hotel. These Anambra igbos boys like to pretend like they saints but those of us in Diaspora see what they are doing every day. When they arrest them in South Africa ,they start crying and pretend to be victims even when they are caught red handed with drugs. If this guy was doing a legit business there is no way they could have treated him like this. The reason they are trying to steal his property is because he can not give account of how he got the money to build or buy the hotel. What business was he doing before he bought the hotel? That is the question they must ask him.

He should not come here and try to garner sympathy when he is a bonafide hardened criminal.Go to thailand & Malaysia, the same boys are there getting killed everyday by the locals because they always get into crime. They are not capable of living a honest life ,all they want is to make quick money so they they can get chieftaincy titles in their Village.Useless bunch of morons who are disgracing our country everywhere they go.

Nairalanders should not fall for all this cry baby stories. If any of you come to South Africa and see what Anambra Igbos are doing here, you will instantly tear your Nigerian passport.Their crimes here is just sickening and will bring tears to the eyes of even the strongest man. That is how bad it is.There is a reason why South Africans dislike Nigerians so much,it is because of these guys who have completely decimated any good reputation we had in this country.

These guy never respect their host country, they just do as they like and cause trouble all the time.Almost every months 5 to 8 igbos are shown on SABC News and reported as crimnals who were arrested for drug dealing. It is very depressing to say the least.I do not blame these African countries who now treat Nigerians badly. If we were in their shoes and someone came to Nigeria to misbehave like this ,we will do worse. It is high time Nigerians stop defending crimnals in the name of National pride. We should speak condemn this hardened crimnals who do not show any sign of stopping their criminal activities and who do not care what damage they do to our country's image. It is because of them that we are searched like dogs at Airports all over the world.

Based on my experience in Diaspora ,if you behave and obey the laws of your host country ,the police will never visit you at home or your office. If you are clean no one can intimidate you or bully you in diaspora. However if you are involved in crimes or hangout with bad gangs, you will be visited by the Police on the regular.Show me one law abiding Nigerian in Diaspora who has been mishandled by Diasporan police, show me just one? If you get to a foriegn country ,make sure your papers are in order and never engage in any criminal activity. If you follow those simple rules ,you will be fine. All these people who get into trouble are either in the country illegally or up to no good. That is the bonafide fact.

Yet they hold Jonathan,Abacha, Babangida ,Akpabio ,Ohakim,Ibori e.t.c in high regard and constitute 95% of the drug dealers ,Kidnappers and fraudsters Nigeria export to South Africa ,Asia and the USA.Need i remind you that Igbos are political prostitues who will lick the azz of anyone who gives them money.I mean just take a look at the history of Igbo politics ,it is a classic example what intelligent folks would never do if they want to be relevant or taken serious.Fact is unless APC produces a Igbo Candidate an igbo man will never be President of Nigeria. After Jonathan comes sambo ,deal with it

So my question is:
Why is Tinubu hated more by people who are not primarily affected by his actions and inactions??

CraigB's style of argument and obsession with images of apes is nothing short of disturbing and diverts attention from the real issues surrounding this topic. You can constructively debate the issue at hand or continue to post comments which are shamefully degrading to our continent.Regardless of where you stand in your argument ,there is a limit to everything and you should know where the limit is.

I will not be part of such an exercise as my level of intelligence and maturity prevents me from descending to such condescending levels. The thread has now gone to waste as logical thinking has been thrown out of the window and typical regressive behavior has come to bear on both sides.

Foreign Affairs / 'Why Did The FBI Execute My Boy? - Ibragim Todashev (graphic) by yeboyes: 4:23pm On May 31, 2013
The father of Ibragim Todashev, who was shot by an FBI agent a week ago while being quizzed over his links to the Boston bombers, revealed the extent of his son's injuries in gruesome photographs of his dead body today.

Outspoken Abdul-Baki Todashev called for an investigation and possible legal action against the agent involved at a press conference in Moscow where he showed the images of his son's body lying in a morgue with up to seven gunshot wounds, including one to the back of the head. His angry calls for justice came as a report claimed the 27-year-old native Chechen was unarmed in the clash with a federal agent in Florida on May 22.

Previous reports claimed the US citizen went for the agent with a knife while being interrogated in his home. However, a report by the Washington Post yesterday cited law enforcement officials saying he had no weapon.

He allegedly did become violent when police quizzed him over links to Tamerlan Tsarnaev and an unsolved 2011 triple homicide but he did not have a knife as previously claimed.

'Today I want justice. I want an investigation, so that these people (the FBI) are sued under US laws,' he said.

'These are not FBI agents. These are bandits and they must appear in court.

'He said he received the 16 images of his son's body from a friend in the US.

Todashev is pictured lying in a Florida morgue. His father claims they show brutal injuries from up to seven bullets including one to the back of the head. 'This is not a shot that you fire when you come under attack. This is a shot you fire to execute someone,' he said.

'Couldn't they just handcuff him? At the very least, they could have wounded him in the foot or shoulder. And here he was – killed execution style.'

He added that his son must have had information they didn't want him to reveal.
'They silenced him', he added.

He now plans to journey to the US to pick up his son's body and said he had been to the US embassy in Moscow to apply for a visa to do so.

Authorities were pressuring the younger Todashev to make a full confession to the murders of three men found in an apartment in Waltham, Mass. on the tenth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001.

It is known Tamerlan Tsarnaev was close friends with one of the victims and the FBI have been looking into whether he was involved.

Law enforcement sources told NBC that Todashev and Tsarnaev carried out the 2011 killings when a drug deal that turned violent. The suspects didn't want the three victims to be able to identify them, so they slit their throats, according to the network.

It is that evidence which apparently led them to Todashev and his Orlando apartment not far from Universal Studios on May 22.

He had questioned for some hours before he allegedly flipped and the shooting came as one agent stepped out of the room, leaving Todashev alone with one officer, the Post said.

regarding his ties to Tamerlan Tsarnaev, who was killed by police in a shootout following the deadly April 15 marathon bombings.

Authorities said they have no reason to believe that Todashev had any involvement in the marathon bombings.Todashev was arrested in an unrelated incident on May 4 for aggravated battery after he left a man unconscious in the parking lot of a shopping mall.

According to the arrest affidavit, Todashev had gotten into an altercation with a man and his son over parking space.Todashev told police that the man 'got into his face' so he pushed him and then the man's son 'got involved' and Todashev began fighting him.

A mall security officer arrived on scene to find the son unconscious and lying in a pool of blood on the ground just as Todashev was pulling away in a white Mercedes. The officer chased down the Mercedes, ordered Todashev out at gunpoint and arrested him.

The son was later treated at a hospital with a split upper lip, several teeth knocked out and head injuries.Friends and family members of the 2011 murder victims reacted to news of that Tsarnaev and Todashev were involved on social media. On a Facebook page dedicated to victim Raphael Teken, someone wrote, 'Whether we ever know exactly what happened, there is one thing we surely know and that is that Rafi deserved a much better fate.'

Facebook user Tony Porter wrote, 'I'm disappointed that we will never really get to experience true justice for our friend or know the reasons for what happened despite the fact that both alleged suspects are now deceased. 'I don't know how you are supposed to feel when your friend's killer gets killed, but I don't feel "relieved" like I thought I would.'

Technology Market / Samsung Announces 5G Data Breakthrough by yeboyes: 2:28pm On May 31, 2013

Films could be downloaded to smartphones in just one second with new ultra-high speed mobile phone broadband technology, Samsung has claimed. The fifth-generation technology will transmit data several hundred times faster than the 4G networks being rolled out across the country, says the communications giant.

Homes could have the wireless 5G system by 2020 using a vast network of masts, which may prove controversial but would mean an end to broadband cables to connect to the internet.

While 4G networks speed up standard downloads to about 13 minutes, subscribers of the new service would be able to download massive data files ‘practically without limitation’, enabling almost instantaneous access to games and 3D movies or the ability to stream ultra high-definition programmes in real-time.

The South Korean company claims its technology uses high-frequency wavebands previously deemed unsuitable for mobile networks. Central to it is the creation of what bosses say is the world’s first transceiver capable of providing 5G to a wide area via a phone mast.

Samsung announced the breakthrough after tests in which data was transmitted at speeds of more than one gigabit per second over a distance of up to two kilometres. However, analysts warned that faster downloads may mean bigger bills and raised health fears that new high powered broadcasts will fuel so-called ‘electronic smog’.

Samsung announced the development after conducting a test where data was transmitted at speeds of more than one gigabit per second over a distance of up to two kilometres.Customers using 4G services - currently provided in the UK by EE - access average speeds of between eight and 12 megabits per second (Mbps).

'The new technology sits at the core of 5G mobile communications system and will provide data transmission up to several hundred times faster than current 4G networks,' Samsung said in a blog post.

The company believes the equipment could provide a solution to recent surges in wireless internet usage. It added: 'Samsung’s new technology will allow users to transmit massive data files including high-quality digital movies practically without limitation.

'As a result, subscribers will be able to enjoy a wide range of services such as 3D movies and games, real-time streaming of ultra high-definition (UHD) content, and remote medical services.' In the blog post, Samsung claims its technology uses high-frequency wavebands which were previously deemed unsuitable for mobile networks.

It said: 'The implementation of a high-speed 5G cellular network requires a broad band of frequencies, much like an increased water flow requires a wider pipe.'While it was a recognised option, it has been long believed that the millimetre-wave bands had limitations in transmitting data over long distances due to its unfavourable propagation characteristics.

'However, Samsung’s new adaptive array transceiver technology has proved itself as a successful solution.'It transmits data in the millimetre-wave band at a frequency of 28 GHz at a speed of up to 1.056 Gbps to a distance of up to two kilometers.'
