We can do an experiment. Use the following and see the results
1. Feed your broilers topfeed or vitalfeed finisher for a week and
2. Feed them breedwell/Rico Gado/Chikun finisher for another week
3. Formulated feed with excess maize above the regular formula and use another week with the regular formula.

The results will be very different in terms of feathers growth. What you will get is that higher crude protein will produce more feathers irrespective of broiler breed.

Lol, sir i've been in commercial broilers production since 2013 and the lowest production circle (every 6 weeks) i ever done since then is 1600. I've practically used every feed you mentioned above and i can confidently say that the richer the feed the more you see them grow(building more visible flesh)without much feathers especially "shooters (male)" in their first 4 weeks. Besides, there are some breeds that grow too much feathers irrespective of what you give them (even at initial stage), they are very strong and tall, dont die anyhow but not quite good if you are targeting weight in short period.

Sir, i'm not here to brag or say i know more than you as i have nothing to prove to anyone but the Nairalanders i'd helped to set up their farms wont be happy with me arguing about something like this.

The room i intend to use was earlier used to rear goats... also.. the areas have lots of birds(local) with these tiny black parasites on their face... 70 percent of tge birds have died here..

Wash the place very well with soap and formalin. Leave it for a week or 10 days. Get a sprayer and spray with mixture of formalin and little salt.

Okay, so today marked day 14, so I decided to weigh them, though am not happy with the difference in weight and their weight gain I will take responsibility for that, I was not using the right feeders and some were overshadowed as a result, below is my update at day 14
MORTALITY :
4, (1 had an accident ,2 just died without any obvious cause, 1 was ill) so I have 98 remaining
WEIGHT:
Highest weighed was 330grm
Lowest weighed 160grm
Average weight of the 10 I weighed is 275g
I guess it's time for them to be moved from the brooder cos of space
So any observation and corrections?

Though their average weight should be around 400g- 540g for male line and 350g-500g for mixture at day 14 but dont think is necessary to be scaling them since you are rasing them for xmas. You need body size and not necessarily weight. Just feed them well, they still have time to reach good size before xmas.

EMMAACHILE:
A rich feed will produce feathers while a poor feed will likely lose feathers IMO.
If you feed your broilers well whether Marshall or Ross 308 or Cobb 500, they will produce good feathers.

If you don't want feathers, you need to reduce the protein content of your feed especially amino acids or use a low crude protein feed.

Dont think so, broilers feathers grow as they age, infact they produce more feathers on poor diet and real visible meat on rich diet. It also depends on the breed. For instance, some breed dont grow too many feathers until much later. Infact lack of feathers actually make them look fertile and healthy. Also shooters/male dont quickly produce much feather at initial stage(0-5 weeks) like female.

Sorry for not replying you on time. Feeding should be "ad infinitum" if you are targeting weight or randomly serving if you are raising them for long.

From day 1-5(vitamin and antibiotic), add anticocci at day 4 and 5. Lasota at day 8 while you give them Gumboro at day 10. Anticocci at day 12 and 13. 2nd lasota and Gumboro at day 18 and 20 respectively, while you combine antibiotic and anticocci from day 23-27. You may give them vitamin for 5 days after this and continue with ordinary water till you cull them.

Note: if you are raising them more than 6 weeks, make sure you give them different type of anticocci at least every 10 days. 2nd Lasota and Gumboro is optional if you are sure all of them tasted the first ones and you dont raise them more than 7 weeks. Also at day 4 and 5 you are to give them first anticocci, dont add vitamin with it.

Except they are showing other symptoms or stop eating, it is quite normal to see some birds with stiff deformed neck within the flock.

And let me just teach you guys this for free, get "Tagiri and Garlic" chop and blend it together and be adding it to their water. Using the above vaccination program here, you give them mixture of blended "Tagiri and Garlic" at day 14-16 and repeat day 23-27(in place of antibiotic and anticocci).

Please can you enlighten us more? Am learning as well. The first I did about 30 chicken and they grown up well but 4 of them developed neck problem. Just bought them for fun without any preliminary knowledge but am thinking of investing more

They’re Cockerels, some people thought it was Broilers because of their sizes.

You must have spent alot of money to feed them. Cockerels are just too slow for impatience farmer like me.

Good, i was asking because, the way you feed broilers when you are targeting weight is quite different from the way you feed them when we still have 3 month to Christmas. Feed supply in this case should not be "ad infinitum" if you really want to make profit. Since they're staying for long time, make sure you use 2nd lasota and Gumboro. Give them anticcoci every 12 or 15 days if on wire base cage.

nice idea...for the feed I gave dem starter for 4weeks but later switched to grower cos of the cost of finisher...they eat like no tomorrow ..presently on 7th bag

Sorry can't update pics right now, browsing with my tab, not my picture taking phone, update at day 7, I have had 3 mortality so far , two which were the biggest of my flock just suddenly drop down dead without any symptom of being ill both were already weighing 120g-160g respectively at day five, one which was the smallest was ill,coccidiosis was suspected, treated all, she was getting better ,only for something to fall on it in isolation and it died immediately , today which is day 7, am vaccinating them (lasota), will weigh them this evening though

Dont stress the birds you just vaccinated this morning, wait till tomorrow.

Being awhile i took part in this type of discussion. If you are here argueing with Atheists or Deists, you are simply wasting your time because you can never have require facts to backup your claims.

We are simply what we believed. Serving God or not have nothing to do with your existence. Although, religions give hope upon hope with no hope of when and how to fulfil them. it all had to do with the system. Baad economy, low standard of living, and a failing or even a failed state if i must say. Similar case of example is that of the USSR states after post warsaw pact thoses states under communism were very poor thus lead to many women in those countries in prostitution and Indecency film, and men into crime. When the country is very bad people must do what it takes to survive. So dontt blame them. Blame the system of governance.

This is only sensible comment i read here. Majority of these girls are not that lucky to have parents or any relatives to assit them, therefore doing runz to survive. Trust me alot of them wont go into this shit if they have other means to survive. The funny thing is that, most of you guys wont give them your 1kobo or simply ask them to go and find job to do if they come to you for help.

Nigeria economy is simply bad to the extent that even graduates now are finding it difficult to get 20k jobs. Menial jobs are not even easier to get these days as there are many jobless people who are ready to take as low as 1k per day as labourer.

Besides, while you are here condemming them, some educated ones among them has used the proceed of their trade to established themself in a big way. The fact is that, where there is high rate of poverty, people use whetever within their capacity to survive.

Dont blame the girls, blame the society that breed them.

Dont know about the ones in middle-Belt, Fulani men i normally see in the south are harmless and friendly expecially if you politely tell them not to tresspass. Besides, you dont see them in large numbers, just 2 or maximum of five men directing hundreds of cattles with sticks and cutlasses.

The idea of Fulanis using AK-47 still something very hard for me to understand because these men are too local or conservative to use modern weapons.
