Instagram has announced that it has extended time limits on live streams to 4 hours. The company announced three updates that will make live streaming experience on the app easy with additional support of archiving live streams.

According to a blog post by business insider, Live-streaming on Instagram has seen a 70% increase in use in the US during the coronavirus quarantine in March. Social distancing led many content creators to find alternative ways to interact and communicate with their users online. Instagram live became a virtual house for people to party, celebrities hosted live shows, DJ hosted live party, artists played their music, fitness trainer hosted virtual fitness classes, live classes to train workers, and more

Instagram live stream length for all users globally which was 1 hour limited the use of the feature. Most live streams covered virtual events like fitness, yoga, training, meet up, classes among others. And required more time to showcase their content. Creators using Instagram live wanted to extend their sessions beyond the one hour time limit without any interruption.

The new live time limit is available to all users worldwide from today with the condition that their account have no history of IP or policy violations.

Instagram also announced another feature to be available later. Creators can archive their live streams for up to 30 days before they delete. Before now the only way to save live streams was to publish it on IGTV immediately after the live. Creators can always save their live videos and share to other platforms.

Facebook has announced the launch of its free-to-play cloud-streamed games in the Facebook app and on browser. It is playable instantly, with no subscription, controllers and downloads required.

Free-to-Play Cloud Games is Launching in Beta on Android and Web at fb./play. Facebook cloud games is not available for iOS users due to Apple adjusted guideline around gaming services. Only those in the US can use this feature for now because of Data centers.

Jason Rubin, VP of Play, Facebook said “We recently had 200,000 people playing our cloud-streamed games per week in limited regions, so while it’s not exactly a secret, I’m excited to lay out what we’re building”

He further said “We’re not spinning off a separate cloud gaming service. All cloud-streamed games are playable in the same way you play games now on Facebook either it’s in our Gaming tab or from News Feed. No special hardware or controllers needed because your hands are the controllers since we’re launching with native mobile games. And you can play these games with a mouse and keyboard on desktop.”

More than 380 million people play games each month on Facebook, and people will play cloud-streamed games right alongside those playing instant games in HTML5. And if we do our jobs right, you won’t notice how the games are delivered.

Cloud gaming features available

Facebook cloud gaming set of games available this week include Asphalt 9: Legends by Gameloft; Mobile Legends: Adventure by Moonton; PGA TOUR Golf Shootout by Concrete Software, Inc.; Solitaire: Arthur’s Tale by Qublix Games; and WWE SuperCard by 2K Games. In the coming weeks more games will be added to expand the games library.

Facebook is also introducing player names and gaming-themed avatars for players to represent themselves in game instead of using their full name and profile picture. Game developers integrating Facebook login for gaming can enable cross-play between the downloaded version of their game and the cloud version on Facebook.

In the US, cloud playable Ads is Launching on Android and iOS in the US. This is built on Facebook HTML5 playable ads format. This new format supports interactive demos from a game’s native code, blurring the line between games and ads.

Ekiti State Government has partnered Microsoft Nigeria to help thousands of unemployed and underemployed youths across the state acquire new digital skills through the Global Skilling Initiative.

This was announced by the state government on its official social media page on Monday.

According to the Press statement, the State Government has also committed to pay for certification examinations of up to 2000 residents in various skills of their choice through the programme to improve their credentials.

The programme, which is designed by Microsoft, and its partners, LinkedIn and GitHub, will help young people in the state to acquire skills needed to make them more employable in the post-COVID-19 marketplace.

Applicants will be trained on various skills such as; Customer Service, Digital Marketing, Financial Analysis, Graphics Designing, IT Support/Help Desk Technology, Project Management, Sales Development, Data Analysis, IT Administration, and Software Development. Successful participants will acquire industry-recognized IT Certification.

The partnership is part of the State Government’s strategic focus on the Ekiti Knowledge Zone initiative and ensures that the state develops a talent pool that will make it an attractive destination for both domestic and international technology companies. It also reinforces the Ekiti heritage of being a knowledge-driven society.

Innoson Vehicle Mancufactuing (IVM) the first indigenous vehicle manufacturing company in Nigeria is set to launch its ride-hailing services in the city of Enugu. Eastern Nigeria in the first week of October according to Techpoint.

The ride-hailing service by innoson is called ‘IVM connect’. It also represent one of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing customer social responsibility (CSR) effort to provide job opportunities for residents in Enugu state.

IVM Connect is a Nigerian founded ride-hailing services with its root from eastern part of Nigeria plans to compete with popular ride-hailing platforms like Uber and Taxify.

IVM’s head of Corporate Communications, Cornel Osigwe while speaking to Techpoint Africa said that this was necessary at this period to address the challenge of inadequate transport services in the state.

Innoson will launch IVM connect with 200 branded hatchback cars in the first week of October. Within one year of lunch, the company will roll out 5000 vehicles to cover owerri and other parts of Eastern Nigeria.

For the purpose of recruiting, training, and issuing necessary licenses to qualified drivers, IVM connect is partnering with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). This is to enable all drivers coming on board to meet the requirements expected.

Mr osigwe explained that to avoid the kind of challenges faced by ride-hailing services in Lagos state, innoson vehicles would carry the Enugu state government along.

“We are in talks with necessary agencies of government concerning the situation of the project. But for now, we cannot give out the details of the discussions,” Osigwe said.

IVM outsourced drivers’ registration and selection processes to a job recruitment company, Freshminds to ensure proper driver onboarding.

The company has created a job portal on the website for this purpose and already developing a mobile app named ‘IVMCruise’

According to a tweet by Innoson vehicles, minimum accepted academic qualification is OND but the drivers to operate the vehicles must be tech-savvy, own a smartphone, be a resident of Enugu, and be ready to pay back for the vehicle within two years via a hire purchase agreement.

Mr Osigwe also confirms that payment for the hire purchase system would be electronic and cash based trips will be discouraged to ensure proper payment tracking. The drivers become owners of the vehicles after payment is complete.
