Programming / Re: Which Is Better For Web Applications? PHP Or Asp.net by yorex2011: 10:07pm On Jun 12, 2018
Mohemos thanks for teaching the fellows here.. Way too many misconceptions.

Its not about the tool but the artisan.

I just feel bad mouthing a language or claiming one is better than the other is something newbies do.

The php you think is not secure is used by more 60% of the world's web applications.

I've also seen a lot of badly written asp.net codes, same with php.. Same way there are excellent codes in both.

Write what you are comfortable with, or what the client wants.

For your information, there's at least one bank in Nigeria that uses php.

Please this post is not for the feeble or dull minds.

Is this life worth anything?

What is life?

Because, I've come to realize that we're just living to die. And is this life worth the whole stress of living? If my question makes any sense.

I've also come to understand you don't live happily at any point. Things will happen and situations will keep stressing you at every point. When you're poor, you want to be rich so that you can solve your problems. But when you're also rich, there'll be stress. You'll start trying to make sure you don't go back to poverty and invest wisely. You can't just sit and enjoy your wealth. Situations will keep cropping up. Sometimes I'm scared to be happy because happiness doesn't last. Something bad must always happen.

What is this life?
Is it worth the stress that issues will keep coming up and you don't even get to sit back and enjoy?

Being a child is the best thing that happened to us all. Because then you had no worries, as we grow, our needs becomes endless. We're insatiable.

What is life? I'm tired of living, living this hard life knowing I'm going to die anytime and my goals and dreams that I'm working for becomes nothing at the end. I'm tired of getting almost everything wrong. Tired of not being happy all the time and the stress that keeps coming up.

What is the essence of life if we're just living and suffering only to die. Because in this life, THERE'S NOTHING LIKE HAPPILY EVER AFTER. We're just going through hell, just to die at the end.

This question has plagued humans since days of old.

I personally believe, Life (nature) has given everybody what he needs to be happy. Where we get it wrong is when we search for things that we have already.

Almost like using your phone torch to search for the phone itself (we know how frustrating that can be).

You just need to allow yourself to discover yourself. There's a Japanese concept called Ikigai, the French call it raison d'être. Basically means your reason for being.

The summary of that concept is attached in the image below. Everyone has an Ikigai, some spend their entire lives not discovering it.

Some discover it early and change the world, as someone once said, every human being wants to be happy first above all. What we don't realise is that happiness is relative and different for every individual.

When you come to that level of mental balance and self realization, you'd come to see that nothing fazes you and you are more powerful than you give yourself credit for...

Skills are important, once you have skills, you won't be searching for jobs. Truth is a lot of reasonable jobs exist, but there is a dearth of people with the right skills.

While searching for jobs, try improving on your skill set. There are a ton of things you can learn that don't need you to be in a work place.

A new language,
Programming skills,
Selling skills,
Research skills,
Software skills,
Thinking skills,
Presentation skills,
Human psychology (you'd be shocked at how a skill in reading body language or psychological evaluation can impress an employer)
Data Analysis skills,
Writing skills,

I'm pleading with you folks, please learn, relearn, become adept at something

Even those who are already working, never stop learning!

For me intelligence means lots of things.
Thinking ability,
Intelligence in human relationships
Emotional intelligence.
Physical intelligence
Work intelligence
Academic intelligence
Street intelligence

Etc
Its possible to have all

Dating someone with these traits will always be bliss.

Nairaland / General / Kindly Vote For Abayomi - Sibi Onike by yorex2011: 1:42pm On Mar 27, 2018
Here's a very beautiful song by Abayomi.

https://twitter.com/TopRadio909/status/976209989416218626?s=20

Sibi Onike meaning plastic spoon.

There's an ongoing contest on Twitter and he's currently in second. Many of us here on nairaland can relate to the song. Always praying to God to change our conditions and make us bigger.

Well belief in God is faith, but what is faith without work? I know with the right encouragement he can write even better songs and produce good music.

I told him he was going to win, he was discouraged because of the votes and only 66 followers he has. But i mentioned that when God wants to bless you and its your time. Then nothing can stop you.

It will cost just a few kilobytes to vote but the results can make the world to this young man. If this post can get to front page I'm sure he'd win.

Because I believe in the unity that can be achieved here.

Cc Lalasticlala anything you can do for this young man will really be appreciated.

Remember it costs just about nothing to vote but it can make the difference for Abayomi.

Someday, in our own inadequacies, shall discreet helpers rise and help us forge on.

We shall never forget the days of humble beginnings.

Click the link, vote Abayomi. I'd upload the song and share here as soon as I can

Cc Lalasticlala (can't remember the last time i beckoned on you)

Career / Re: Degree Vs Certifications: Which Should You Go For? – A Detailed Guide. by yorex2011: 10:07am On Mar 27, 2018
shedybaba44:
that's a lie I studied computer science, most of my classmates in university day has no job, because they bang on only degree, certificate in IT gives you an edge.

There really isn't any cure for going to a university without learning anything, where I work I have one computer science guy who's even contemplating on whether to go for NYSC or not. He's already an important part of the team.

So yes its not a lie. Check most software developer jobs on LinkedIn. A computer science is mostly required. Certifications are not asked much except in much higher roles even which they'd still add the comp science degree requirement.

Next time, look at the bigger picture. A degree is not just paper. It is proof that you have learned the foundations of a course, that you have been tested on what you've learnt, that you have used the knowledge to develop something on your own (final year project) and that you have good knowledge of what you studied.

Problem here is that we think its paper. It's way more than that.

If as a computer science student you developed something really useful and innovative as a final year project. There's no way you'd be unemployed. Why because you have the skills required to succeed in your chosen profession

Career / Re: Degree Vs Certifications: Which Should You Go For? – A Detailed Guide. by yorex2011: 7:09am On Mar 27, 2018
Don't think I have any certification sef. I've just learnt to develop my skills via reading, practice and teaching.

Certifications at times may give you a fall sense of ability which may be misleading.

Though it is important in some special cases if it might involve use of certain tools or equipment that are not mainstream or that are proprietary or difficult to access outside of a training environment.

Back to the question, It will depend on the use case. A degree most times in Computer science is better than any other certification in that line (most of the time). But a certification in Electrical Instrumentation might be more appealing than a degree in Electrical engineering
