What is this obsessive igbo fixation with Lagos sef? ? Is it a mental disease or something? A land that has an extensive history that date back centuries, kingdoms, aboriginals/indigenes, e.t.c. Yet coz the landowners are magnanimous enough to accomodate and sell land to you, you've grown to insolent enough decide to attempt to rewrite their history? ? Only Igbos can try such lubbish.

Economic relevance comes from Taxes/IGR and ability of the populace to contribute via taxes so exactly how many of the millions of unskilled and informal ibo workers/hawkers and even shop owners pay taxes?

Do you have a verifiable and credible official data to even prove their economic relevance pay economic contribution via taxes? Of course you don't have anything to base your chest beating on and please don't tell me you are not ibo because you are..

lol @ 70-80 % traders in Lagos are ibo... Delusions and lies got to be part of you people's DNA structure..

If ibo traders are so important, Onitsha and Aba would be earning their respective states more GRA than Lagos and their GDP would be off the chain. Common Ebonyi state (a state without markets like Onitsha and Aba) IGR was higher than Anambra that touts itself as having the largest market in Africa. Only Imo is in the top 10 high-ranking SE state on the GDP list. Ogun and Oyo are on the list alongside Lagos, yet you don't hear them make so much noise. Abeg wetin them contribute to Kano IGR? ? They just love feeling important with themselves. hiss.

perculiarperson:

I beg to differ on your view point. Importation is mostly done by igbos through the ports in Lagos, trading is mostly done by igbos through Lagos markets to other parts of the country, West Africa & Africa as a whole...

The economic relevance of Lagos would be drastically reduced if the igbos were to be asked to live town and this is because they are sole importers, traders of many of our staple items and wares which are distributed from Lagos.

Why are the Head offices of major banks in Lagos? It's simply because of the business life here. Today banks are focused on retail banking and the bank's that will thrive in this segment are the ones who are able to capture a sizeable chunk of the traders' market of which igbos make up 70-80%.

I am not an igbo person but I think it is good to give credit where due.

Bear in mind that if the sea ports in the East and South south are developed it would indicate less commercial activities in Lagos as other ports would take sizeable chunk of the ports business. I am sure you clearly know that most of our imports are not transacted by Lagosians...

Let's learn to appreciate and value each other's strengths in order to chart a brighter course for our great nation.

Stay blessed. Cheers.

You people and your delusion of grandeur. You can tell an Igbo person by their "I am not an igbo person" preamble. Why must you people always wanna feel important? If you're so important you won't have to remind everyone every frigging minute. Why don't you all just live up to your threat that Lagos needs you more than the other way round, instead of always whining and making useless noises? ? Gosh! That's how you all said Nairaland would be on the losing side and decline if you all leave, well... una wey run comot na the same una don return to the same Nairaland under different monikers. Lagos will thrive with or without Igbo traders, and you can take that to the bank. Upon all your noises SE is still a shitty a$$ mess of a place where y'all refuse to return to, yet you all brag about your imaginery importance. Like WTF? ?

@mazeltov: Yinmu. You people are perpetual wailers. Even if dem give una till eternity to evacuate sef Una go still find something to complain about and still scream victimization.

When T.A Orji relocated some traders from Umuahia due to his desire to beautify the state capital during his tenure, some of them still complained. Obiano was attacked by many of them for enforcing a ban on street trading. Una must sha complain about something. I for one have stopped taking you all seriously.

They are also lamenting the cost of the shops, describing it as too high. Others have commended the foresight of the government.

Politics / Re: After War: Why Are Southeastern Cities Averagely Finer Than Southwestern Cities? by YoruBanger: 9:59pm On Jan 08, 2016
MrAnalyst:

Claiming Igbos troop to SW is a half-truth. Igbos troop everywhere. You claim Yorubas are the ones who patronize Igbo traders. Again, this is hugely inaccurate. In the big markets of Lagos, when it comes to big spending,Igbos form the majority of the "big" customers, this is because most Igbos in Lagos are usually comfortable or quite rich, though ofcourse there are few miscreants. There are rich Yorubas ofcourse but most live below the poverty line, these are the ones that are usually very "pained" by the seeming Igbo domination. Infact these facts are glaring,it's not difficult to hear statements like "the Igbos are the ones developing Lagos". Lemme drop the pen here.

Yinmu. Are you making sense to yourself? Like seriously. Most Igbos in Lagos live in the ghetto areas of Oshodi, Ajegunle, Mushin, Olodi Apapa, Festac and other low-income areas. The Posh parts like Ikeja GRA, Ilupeju, Lekki, Magodo, Ogudu, VGC, Ikoyi, VI, e.t.c. are predominantly Yoruba enclaves. #FACT. And your folks are either traders, Okada riders, or Gala hawkers in traffic. #FACT. What about the Igbo traders outside Lagos and in other SW states, cities and towns? Who patronizes them? Ghosts? Go to Ogbomosho and see swarms of them, ditto Oshogbo, Akure, Ibadan, e.t.c, including remote villages. These people only visit their states of origin during Christmas. Now, if as you say, "most [yorubas] live below the poverty line", why are your Igbo traders flooding our major towns and cities to sell their wares to such poverty stricken people? I'll tell you why. It's coz they'll die of poverty if they had stayed back in the East coz there's no money to be made in the East -- and it's the same reason they all refuse to relocate back to your region. Most of your wealthy folks made their money outside of the SE, all thanks to the spending power of non-igbos who patronize their wares. #FACT.

please I have no time for perverts and dullards, its only in poor/uncivilized enclaves you will see hilux been used as patrol vans. You think you know better than LASG, NYPD and the eastern state govt?

How can you keep arresting people with hilux, are they animals? Don't bring your animalistic mentality here, in US, even anti-robbery squads use cars and not hilux.

Dude, why are you getting angry coz I exposed your flawed premise? You are in no position to lecture me about law enforcement patrol vehicles in the u.s. coz I'm a U.S citizen myself and spent over a decade of my adult life living and schooling there. It's just simple common sense. There are 4-seater hilux trucks that are ideal for Nigeria's peculiar law enforcement challenges. Again I repeat, Naija ain't no LA or NY. Get a grip and quit foaming in the mouth.

My brother. I don't think those vehicles will cost 10,000 USD becos it's just 1.3L which is equivalent to nissan micar engine used for taxi purpose at ogun and Oyo states.

Meanwhile those saying it's wrong to use hilux as patrol vehicle; Common Nigeria roads are not suitable for low equilibrium vehicles. Imagine using a sedan to chase die hard armed robbers using tundra, fortuner after their operation. cheesy

Abi o jare. No be this same Naija. It's like asking why the average Naija person would pick a 4-wheeled drive SUV over a Sedan for Naija roads

how many times have you seen a white man use hilux for patrol? Hilux is usually used for special assignments. How many time have you seen NYPD or LAPD using hilux for patrol?

Dude, I'm sorry if I sound harsh but that has to be the stvpidest retort I've heard so far this year. Comparatively, it's a no-brainer. Hilux trucks are more rugged and better suited for the Naija roads and terrain. I give those smaller Toyotas just one year before they start 'packing up' from wear and tear, not to mention the toll our roads will take on them. Just one year. I'm being pragmatic here, no sentiments. Naija ain't no LA or NY. And doesn't the SE have the worst roads again?
