Hello, Fellow Nairalanders,

Please, am in dire need of employment. Am a creative writer and publisher but have been forced into the Labour market for lack of funds to continue my (entrepreneurial) publishing business.

Of course, am assuredly competent with a Second Class Upper Division [Certificate] from the Dept of Political Science, University of Nigeria, Nsukka and huge wealth of experience that favour me in administrative positions of Secretary, Personal Assistant, Customer Care (Relationship) Agent, HR, Communications Agent and News Publisher.

Please, fellow Nairalanders, help me out as I have found it extremely difficult to engage my competence and skills in anything meaningful since I suspended my publishing career for lack of finance.

At present, I have increased job applications but responses are seemingly not forthcoming.

Here is my email address: princedavidobi@gmail.com

Please, help me out.

Thank you and God bless you.

Politics › Deal Decisively With IPOB, MASSOB, If... IGP Orders Digs, Aigs by Youngadvocate(op): 6:22am On May 27, 2017
Strict warning was yesterday, Friday, issued by the The Police Force headquarters in Abuja to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Biafra Independent Movement (BIM) as well as the Movement for the Actualization for the Sovereign State of Biafra to desist from their planned protest and directive ordering the closure of markets in all eastern states of the federation and others on May 30,2017.

As obtained by Vanguard, Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris who gave the warning in a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police, Jimoh Moshood, directed all Assistant Inspectors General of Police in the affected zones, and the Commissioners of Police in the affected states to be on red alert and to deal with decisively with groups that cause public disorder and disturb commercial activities.

The statement reads, “The attention of the Nigeria Police Force has been drawn to publications in the media on the planned protests and order of market closure in the South Eastern states on the 30th May, 2017 by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and the Biafra Independence Movement (BIM) and other like groups.

“The Nigeria Police Force is deeply concerned with the security implications with regards to the renewed hostilities and subversive propagandas aimed at undermining law and order in some states of the Federation by these groups, their associates, sponsors, apologists and sympathizers.

“Consequently, the Commissioners of Police in the affected states and their supervising Assistant Inspectors General of Police, have been directed by the Inspector General of Police to be strict, polite, civil and firm in dealing with the situation and put all the Police Personnel and Police Anti-Riot equipment on red alert to deal decisively in accordance with the law with any eventuality from these groups, that can disrupt commercial activities, vehicular movements and safety of lives and properties in some states of the Federation considered to be flash/vulnerable points which have witnessed the unfortunate disturbance of public peace by these groups in the recent past.

“The Force sees the activities of these groups as not only unlawful but highly provocative and capable of causing breach of the peace currently being enjoyed in the South East states and other states of the federation. The planned protests and orders of Market closure and illegal unilateral self-imposed restrictions of vehicular movements by these groups in the affected states should be disregarded by all well-meaning Nigerians.

“The Nigeria Police Force, hereby advise the members of the public to go about their lawful duties and other responsibilities without any fear or apprehension as adequate security arrangements have been put in place for the safety of every Nigerian throughout the country by Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies.

“As a result, the Police Force is hereby calling on the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), the Biafran Independence Movement (BIM), the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) to consider the consequences of their actions and activities and without delay call themselves to order in the interest of national security, and safety of lives and properties of every Nigerian across the nation as the full weight of the law will be made to bear on violators of the laws.

“The Nigeria Police Force will not hesitate to deal decisively with any group(s) and their sponsors that attempt to cause disturbance of the peace or carry out any unlawful demonstration, unlawful assembly/procession or gathering and public disobedience that can jeopardise law and order and harmonious co-existence within and amongst Nigerians throughout the country.

“The fact that freedom of expression as one of the dictates of democracy is being observed by the Police, should not be misconstrued as liberty by any group(s) for sectional or group interest to violate the laws and cause mayhem, confusion and apprehension in the minds of more than about one hundred and seventy Millions Nigerians.

“The Force will continue to carry out its constitutional duties and other statutory responsibilities in accordance with the law of the land and for the utmost protection of lives and properties of all Nigerians across the country.”

Politics › Police Raid Ike Ekweremadu's Guest House by Youngadvocate(op): 5:14pm On May 26, 2017
The police in Abuja on Friday carried out a search on the Maitama, Abuja official guest house of the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu.

Special Adviser to the Deputy President of the Senate, Mr. Uche Anichukwu who confirmed the development said that neither Ekweremadu nor any of his senior aides was informed before the search. According to him only the steward was present when the policemen who claimed to be from the Force Headquarters arrived at the 10 Ganges Street, Maitama guest house. Mr. Anichukwu said nothing was found from the search.

The search happened about two weeks after Senator Ekweremadu alleged plans by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC to raid him in either Abuja or Enugu. The EFCC in response at that time said that he needed not to fear if he had nothing to hide.

Politics › Nnamdi Kanu Writes Governors, Extends Sit-at-home To 14 States - IPOB Says by Youngadvocate(op): 7:47am On May 25, 2017
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has dared the Nigerian Police who warned against its Sit-at-Home plans, extends the sit-at-home order declared on May 30, 2017 to fourteen states in Nigeria  where Biafrans and supporters live in, revealing that Kanu had written to the governors of those states and other officials involved to ensure the sit-at-home is observed.

According to the Sun News, the order was extended to states like Kano, Kaduna, Jos, Makurdi, Ibadan, Benin, Abuja, Lagos, Lokoja, Gigawa, Jalingo, Mubi, Yola, Lafia, among others.
Despite several warnings by security agencies against the order, IPOB insisted that the order must hold to honour Biafran fallen heroes who lost their lives during the civil war between 1967 and 1970.

A statement by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Mr. Emma Powerful said its leader, Nnamdi Kanu had written to all governors, market, religious and community leaders in Biafraland to help ensure that May 30 would be memorable in the history of  this country.

“This sit-at-home order/remembrance and honour of our fallen heroes slated to be observed on May 30, will be the best thing to happen to the people of Biafra since 50 years.

“It will be  monitored by international observers, after which the struggle for Biafra freedom, will move to another level.

“Therefore, everybody, both old and young, man and woman must stay indoors, no protest, no human or vehicular movements in Biafraland from 6:00 am to 6:00pm on that day.

“Biafrans world over must honour and remember our fallen heroes and heroines who died for our freedom between 1967 and 1970, those who died during our peaceful rally and protest from August 30, 2015 till date.

“Biafrans and IPOB members worldwide living outside Biafraland should present a written letter containing the plights of our people to the authorities and governments of their respective countries.

“The people of Biafra will not fail to honour and remember those who contributed immensely to fight and save the lives of our children, some of whom were starved to death by the policy of the then government.

“We will celebrate and honour Mr. Mathew Tawo Mbu from Ogoja, he was the Biafran foreign minister from the beginning to the end of the war, Captain Willy Murray Bruce, this man was second in command of the Biafran Air force, this Ijaw man fought to the last to defend his country Biafra, Ambassador Ignatius Kogbara, this man from Ogoni was a Biafran envoy to London, he was the very last man to surrender during the war of genocide against our people.

“Again, we will not forget to remember the efforts of Col. Willy Achibong (one of the bravest officers in Biafra Army), Col. Nsudo, Col. Etuk, Bob Egbiko and the efforts of few Yoruba men who fought on the side of Biafra will never be in vain like Adeleke, Fola Oyewole, Major Wale Ademoyega and many others.

“We must remember them in two minutes prayer immediately it is 12 noon on that day. We must remember them in prayer, both the dead and those still alive today,” Powerful said.

Crime › Nigerian Jailed For 18 Years For Drug Sales, Wins Appeal To Reduce It By 1 Year by Youngadvocate(op): 4:28pm On May 24, 2017
Nigerian National, Izundu Lotanna Chukwudi, 42, a former teacher in England, who was found guilty of trying to retail methamphetamine and sentenced to 18 years in jail has won his appeal to get the term shortened by one year in southern Vietnam, according to a court verdict.

An appellate court in Ho Chi Minh City cut the jail term for Izundu Lotanna Chukwudi, 42, after a hearing Tuesday, May 23, citing limited consequence of the illegal trade. (He is pictured in Court yesterday)

The previous verdict handed last September said Chukwudi came to Ho Chi Minh City to work as an English teacher at American-Vietnam International Language School in 2008 and met a fellow Nigerian called Bruno in 2013, who persuaded him to sell drugs for some extra income.

In January 2014, Bruno gave Chukwudi 400 grams (0.88 lb) of methamphetamine and asked him to sell for at least $2,800 per 100 grams. A month later Chukwudi was busted in the city's backpacker area as he was trying to sell the drugs to a Vietnamese for up to $4,000.

Vietnam has some of the world’s toughest drug laws. Those convicted of possessing or smuggling more than 600 grams of heroin or more than 2.5kg of methamphetamine face the death penalty.

Politics › Enugu State Police Warns IPOB, BIM, Says It'll Resist Sit-at-home On Biafra Day by Youngadvocate(op): 7:22am On May 24, 2017
The Enugu State Police Command has fired warning to the Biafra Independence Movement, BIM, and Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, stating that it would resist any attempt by the groups to force people to stay indoors on May 30, as they celebrate the 50 years of declaration of the defunct Biafran Republic.

BIM and IPOB in their separate ways, had continued to sensitize their members on the planned planned sit-at-home through their sensitisation programme by appealing to the “Biafrans,” to observe May 30 as the 50 year anniversary of the declaration of Biafra by late Dim Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu by sitting at home.

According to Vanguard, it has also been posting videos and sending oral messages in various languages in the South-East and South-South, including Igbo, Urhobo, Izan, Itsekiri, Isoko, pigin English, among others, through WhatsApp to the Biafrans on the need to stay at home on that day, which was also meant to honour those who died fighting to realise the dream country.

However, a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, PRO, of the command, Ebere Amaraizu, in Enugu, yesterday, on the campaign by IPOB that traders and other major stakeholders should sit at home as a sign of respect for those who died during and after the three years civil war from 1967 to 1970, warned that the police would not shirk in its responsibilities of maintaining peace and order.

Amaraizu’s statement read in part: “The Enugu State Command of the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, wishes to inform members of the public, particularly the good people of the state, that its attention has been drawn to an alleged sit-at-home order being circulated by groups of persons masquerading under the aegis of Biafra Independence Movement, BIM, among others. “

In view of the above, the command wishes to advise members of the public to disregard such order and go about their normal lawful businesses as the state command, in partnership with other sister security agencies in the state as well as relevant stake holders, is assuring members of the public of their safety and security in the state.”

“The command in addition, reminds those fanning embers of any unlawful act together with their supporters to desist from any act capable of truncating the existing peace in the state as anyone caught, will be made to face the law.”

Sports › Nigerian Man Makes History, Inducted Into Canada Football League At 24yrs Old by Youngadvocate(op):
"It's the biggest day of my life – Nigerian drafted into Canadian Football League on his graduation day," Kaetochukwu Okafor said with overwhelming.

There are two reasons why May 7, 2017, was a day Kaetochuku (Kay) Okafor will never forget.

The 24-year-old walked across the stage to get his business administration degree from St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, N.S., and later in the day he was drafted by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League.

"It's the biggest day of my life so far to be honest," said Okafor. "To graduate from university and get drafted was amazing. And to have my dad here for it was the best part of everything."

Okafor left his home in Enugu, Nigeria, six years ago at the age of 18. He left behind his mother, father, 3 sisters and a brother. Spotting his father in the crowd at graduation was the first time Okafor had seen a member of his immediate family since 2011.

"I actually didn't know if he was going to make it because his flight got cancelled the day before, so we had to get him on a flight to Fredericton instead of Halifax on the morning of my graduation," said Okafor.

Okafor is known for both his physical strength and strong mentoring skills. He turned a lot of heads at the CFL combine this spring. That's where pro prospects are put through a series of strength and conditioning tests. Okafor bench-pressed 225 pounds 30 times.

But there's more to Okafor than brute strength. "He was the captain of our football team and he mentored a lot of young players on our team," said Gary Waterman, head coach of the St. FX football team. "That aspect was so important.

Even though his physical play for us was great, the other elements he brought to the table was just as great for our program." Only his father was able to make it to his graduation. Okafor will be leaving for Hamilton's training camp next week. He's already planning a return trip to Nigeria following the CFL season in time for Christmas. ”

Biafran Heroes of Yoruba Extraction

Not many of us remember the Yoruba soldiers who fought gallantly on the side of Biafra. This is a quick attempt to remember some of them now.

1.Lt Col Victor Banjo

He was one of the first graduates to join the army alongside Ojukwu and others. The two were best of friends according to public records and individual accounts. When Ojukwu released the January 15 coup suspects in the Eastern region after the revenge coup ,Banjo stayed in the government house with him while the rest were accommodated elsewhere in Independent Layout,Enugu.
Banjo led the 3,000 strong Biafran brigade known as the "Liberation Army of Nigeria" and also called the "Midwest Expeditionary Force" in the planned invasion of Lagos. His forces reached Benin within 12 hours on August 9,1967.By this time,Nigerian forces had captured Biafran towns of Obudu, Garkem,Ogoja, Nsukka heading to Enugu and Bonny, heading to Port Harcourt.
Banjo's arguments with Ojukwu resulted in fatal tactical delays in Benin and Ore enroute Lagos for several days.He was recalled back to Enugu alongside his deputy and Quartermaster;Major Ifeajuna,court-martialed and executed with 3 others in September 1967.
Lt Col Banjo was the highest ranking Yoruba in the Biafran army.

2.Major Wale Ademoyega

One of the five majors that toppled the government of Balewa on January 15,1966,he was released from Warri prison during the Midwest invasion in August 1967 by a battalion led by Major Chukwuka; another of the five Jan 15 majors. He first commanded the Biafra newly reorganised 19th Battalion but replaced Ifeajuna as the "Liberation Army" Quartermaster General when he(Ifeajuna) was recalled back to Enugu with his commander;Col Banjo.
Ademoyega wrote a book on the Jan 15 coup titled Why We Struck. He was arrested by federal soldiers after the war, faced the military commission and was detained until October 1974.

3.Capt Ganiyu Adeleke.

He was one of the Jan 15 officers released by Ojukwu. He cordinated the Biafra 18 Battalion at Onitsha as Infantry Company commander with Major Chukwuka in readiness for the Midwest invasion. He distinguished himself in the charge toward Ore and later become an instructor at the Biafra School of Infantry.
When other Biafran soldiers who took part in the Midwest invasion were released from prison in 1974 after Gowon granted them pardon, Capt Adeleke,Lt Col Ochei and "Col Hannibal"Achuzia were exempted from pardon and remained imprisoned.

4.Lt Fola Oyewole

He also joined in setting up the Biafra 18th Battalion at Onitsha and commanded the D Company that liberated Ughelli, parts of Sapele and Warri during the Midwest expedition.
Lt Oyewole is one of the first soldier to write a very instructive book on the civil war titled the Reluctant Rebel. It is a credible account of the civil war from the eyes of an active Biafran army commander who is not from the East.
Oyewole is also one of the Biafran soldiers detained by the federal government after the war and released in 1974.

Note:

Other notable Yoruba who opposed the federal government on the Biafra war include but not limited to:
1.Wole Soyinka
2.Tai Solarin
3.Prof Hezekiah Oluwasanmi;former Vice Chancellor of OAU Ife (1966-1975)

The pictures below are arranged in line with the arrangement of the article with only Capt. Adeleke missing in the pictures

This is a true mark of goodwill and expression of our cultural value.

Onyebuchi Ememanka, Special Adiviser to the Governr of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu on Public Communications let out his benevolence as he remembers his benefactor who had assisted him 20 years ago.

Onyebuchi visited the Okigwe neighborhood where he lived as a student of Abia State University, and met with his benefactor, a carpenter who had 20 years aback helped him (Onyebuchi), while he was in dire need without asking for a reward.

He showered the carpenter with goodies, such as sums of money to him and his wife, paying for the education of one of the man's sons through university.

Onyebuchi also, hosted a party, buying drinks and food for those resident in the neighborhood and also gifted cash to most of them.

Here is what he wrote:

"PAYING A 20 YEAR OLD DEBT

"Today, I decided to put a big smile on someone's face.
When the ABSU event was over and on my way back, I did a stop over at the place where I used to live as a student on Agiriga Street Okigwe.

"My mission was simple - to pay a surprise visit to my old neighbors, who are mostly local carpenters and petty traders.

"I moved into that area sometime in 1998 and lived there till 2001 when I graduated. My brother Chiemezie Nwakanma was living there then and helped me secure the room. We were next door neighbors Iyke Aaron and Chizuru Kanu later joined us there. There is this particular carpenter who was so kind to me then. He would do my carpentry works free of charge and will lend me money whenever I was broke. I didn't pay back most of those monies. The Mbano man was just nice to me and treated me like his own son. The man has a penchant for speaking high sounding grammar and we named him the Professor of Carpentology, a title he cherishes so much... Heheheheheheheh.

"17 years after, I stormed the place today and it was a big party. I ensured that there were drinks of different kinds and food to go round. All the carpenters stopped work to welcome their old neighbor. The women were not left out. I told them stories of how that carpenter assisted me greatly and without seeking any pay back from me. I thanked all of them for the kindness and love they showed me then. They were all amazed that I could still remember all of that almost 20 years after.

"The carpenter had a set of male triplets while I lived there. They are all grown now and one them works with him in his shop. He said the boy is brilliant but he has no money to train him in school. He lost his wife a few years ago. There and then, I announced that I will send him to the university and bear the cost of his training. The man broke down in tears. I told him that his son should get a better life than he had. I am fully committed to keeping that promise. I shall help secure admission for him and see him through school. Who knows? He may be the channel through which God will liberate the family from the vicious cycle of poverty and deprivation.

"It was a great day today as we drank and relived old times. I ensured that each of them got some small cash in their pockets. Before I took my leave, they all asked me to kneel down while they said some prayers that touched my soul. I felt a deep sense of fulfilment today. Yes... Ururuaja never forgets! It may take time but I always return."

Politics › Lawrence Akpu: Ex-Biafra Soldier With Bullet In His Chest by Youngadvocate(op): 8:17pm On May 20, 2017
by Patrick Egwu Ejike

Sixty-six-year-old Lawrence Akpu is sitting on a black wheelchair which makes squeaky sound at each move – a sign that it’s in a very bad shape. Hanging on the wall are black and white picture frames and calendars of Colonel Odumegwu Ojukwu, leader of the defunct state of Biafra who led his people exactly fifty years ago to a three-year full blown-bloody civil war against the Nigerian government following the massacre and genocide of about 50,000 easterners in the north after the counter-coup of 1966 by General Yakubu Gowon. One of the calendars of Ojukwu on the wall read “Historic day: Proclamation of the Republic of Biafra by the military governor, Lt Col. Odumegwu Ojukwu, 30th May, 1967”.

There is a picture of Lawrence too in his army uniform hanging on the wall. It was just 10:30am and the tick-tock of the wall clock was heard in the background. Close to Lawrence’s picture was a calendar of Jesus Christ during transfiguration with the inscription “Our father in heaven”. A 14-inch coloured TV set was standing on a side table with an antenna on top of it. The room was well illuminated as a result of the mid-morning sun that had just begun to shine. The building has not had light for the past six years since it was constructed.

He lives in darkness.

One of the pictures of Col Ojukwu in a calendar hangs on the wall

“Daddy when are you going to get up from this chair (wheelchair)?” his six-year-old grandson, Chinecherem innocently asked him.

“Very soon my dear,” he replied, giggling while adjusting his position on the wheelchair to have a balance. “That’s the question he usually asks me whenever he brings me out from my room. He is just a boy, I don’t blame him”.

“He was our hero,” he said pointing to one of the pictures of Ojukwu when he was speaking to a cross section of foreign journalists, perhaps during the declaration of Biafra on May 30, 1967. “He took us to war because of the killings and victimisation of our people. We were happy to have stood by him with our lives,” he said nodding his head at the same time.

For the past fifty-one years, Lawrence has been sitting in a wheelchair, being moved from one position to the other, all day, all year round, except when he wants to sleep or use the convenience. He said he bought the wheelchair after the one given to him by social welfare under the ministry of health in 1975 had damaged beyond repair. He has since used three different wheelchairs.

“My whole life has been in the wheelchair after the war except when I want to sleep,” he told YNaija.

The unknown bullet

Mr Lawrence, a native of Mgbagbu Owa in Ezeagu LGA of Enugu state, is one of the dozens of abandoned disabled Biafran veterans after the civil war, languishing at a small village resettlement camp in Okwe, Onuimo LGA of Imo state. He was hit by an “unknown” bullet from the back, piercing his chest during a fierce battle on April 13, 1969, in Abia state. He never stood up nor went back to the battlefield ever since. He was paralysed from the bullet injury. His spinal cord was affected.

“April 13, 1969, was terrible. The battle was intense on that day. The bullet was in my chest,” he recalls while unbuttoning his shirt to show me the scar of the bullet and how it perforated his chest. “I ran out of ammo during the assault at Uzuakoli sector in Abia state. We were only given five bullets each; I exhausted mine during the battle,” he said.

“When we ran out of ammunition, I started running with an injured soldier who was shot in the leg I was carrying. It was in the process that a bullet hit me. I didn’t see who shot the fire. I fell to the ground. I was groaning, I was in pains,” he said, remembering how he lost consciousness afterwards before his fellow soldiers came to pick him up. He only found himself at the hospital when he regained consciousness.

After the bullet from nowhere had struck him, he said his fellow soldiers helped to load him into a waiting truck to the hospital.

He never returned to the battlefield until the war ended.

Lawrence Apku doesn’t regret fighting alongside Ojukwu, his hero

Lawrence said his mother objected to his decision to join the army at that time. But he insisted he wanted to save and defend his land. He explained to her that his friends would deride him should he fail to turn up at the recruitment camp. “She was devastated when she heard about it and said over her dead body. I told her I would be a coward if I do not join, my friends would laugh at me. I needed to protect her and my siblings,” he maintained.

“When the war ended and she didn’t see me, she became sick and thought I was dead. I came back one year after the war and she became well and started jubilating,” Lawrence said while drinking from a plastic cup his son had used to fetch water for him.

Fifty years ago, Lawrence, was just sixteen years old when he joined the Biafran army as a recruit on August 19, 1967, following the declaration of the sovereign state of Biafra by Colonel Ojukwu. He joined so he could fight side by side with his comrades to hold their land, to fight for their children and the ones yet unborn. And at the end of the bloody three years civil war, more than three million people, mostly women and children, died of starvation, kwashiorkor and diseases.

“I was living in the north before I came back to the east in 1966 due to the massacre and killings of the Igbos after the coup,” he said placing his hands comfortably on his wheelchair. “They killed mercilessly at that time”.

Prior to the civil war of 1967, there were reported massacre of people from the eastern region in 1966 in the north following the counter-coup. Many survived while many died. As for Lawrence, he was lucky. “When we ran from the north and got to Gboko, Benue state, we met a blockade and they started again, killing people. We luckily escaped,” he recalls with nostalgia.

yemmight:
FFK and Anty Kemi are suffering from the same decease. FFK is not normal. Because he is not relevant in Yorubaland, he's now associating with the Ibos. At the end of the day, he will still come back.
Even Baba of Oshoko himself, Gov. Ayodele Fayose, he's irrelevant too?
