CHYKMAN: Log(x+y) = Log 5.. Is it the same as log x + log y = Log 5?? Cross check your solvings..

Previously, I said taking the log of both sides, i.e log of L.H.S and R.H.S of 'equals to' sign. From x + y = 5, this would imply that: log(x+y) = log5, not logx + logy = log5 as this would have a different implication. Thanks for your observation Chykman!

@O.P i fault the analysis given. The 3rd incident of the test says someone is knocking/yelling for you from the front door. That someone could be anyone not necessarilly a friend/visitor, it seems most of the above posters also didn't interpret the test correctly. And how does door represent friends? If it does then it needn't be locked, it rather be left open.
The phone call could be from a friend/family i dont know hw it represents work, and how does clothes represent money? And how does it determine one's readiness for 2013

How can you get exactly 9litres?....
So dear nairalanders...i'd made a promise dat b4 she getz back from villa..i'd hv killed the puzzzle with my nairalanders in mind...

Here you are, just follow the steps below to arrive at the answer
1) Fill the 10ltr bucket with water first
2) Empty the contents of the 10ltr bucket into the 7ltr bucket. Now the 7ltr bucket will be filled, while 3ltr of water will be left in the other bucket.
3) Empty the 7ltrs bucket.
4) Pour the 3ltrs of water left in the 10ltr bucket into the 7ltr bucket. Now you'll have 3ltrs of water in the 7ltr bucket, with the other one empty.
5) Fill the 10ltr bucket.
6) Pour from the 10ltr bucket into the 7ltr bucket. Remember there is 3ltrs of water in it already, so 4ltrs extra is required to fill it up. And 4ltrs subtracted from the 10ltrs bucket of water will leave you with 6ltrs in it.
7) Empty the 7ltr bucket.
8. Pour the 6ltrs of water in the 10ltr bucket, into the 7ltr bucket. Now there will be 6ltrs of water in the 7ltr bucket, while the 10ltr bucket will be empty.
9) Now fill the 10ltr bucket with water.
10)Recall, there is already 6ltrs of water in the 7ltr bucket. So to just 1ltr of water is required to fill it up, and the 10 ltr bucket is filled with water, right? So all you have to do now is to fill the 7ltr bucket with water from the 10ltr bucket. In other words, 1 litre of water would have been removed from the 10litre bucket by the time the 7litre bucket is filled up...
Leaving you with exactly 9litres of water!

x^x + y^y=31

x + y =5 -------- eqn i.
x^x + y^y=31 ----- eqn ii.
From equatns i & ii, take the log of both sides
(xlog^x + ylog^y) = log 31------ eqn iii.
log(x+y) = log 5 ------------ eqn iv.
xylogxy= log 31 -------- eqn v.
log xy = log 5 --------- eqn vi.
(Using elimination method);
xylog5 = log31
xy = log 31/log 5 =6.2 approx. 6.

Recall, from eqn i, x + y = 5.
So x = 6/y or y = 6/x.
Therefore x=2 when y=3.
ans: x=2, and y=3.

The real reason is this: the clutch of VW beetle doesn't get burnt/ develop fault easily, unlike some other cars. Hence a learner who is still learning control of clutch (cable) , with most manual vehicles, will get it burnt often which leads to often replacement of clutch, but in beetle if u press clutch and accelerator down together it wont develop fault in time. That is why most driving schools go for it, not only because it is cheap.
And any person that learnt driving with automatic car and cannot drive manual e.g beetle is not a driver at all. If u can drive beetle like a pro, then u can drive any car. Driving manual is more technical and sweeter to drive, my opinion.
