OSOGBO— RESIDENTS of Oke-Ayepe, Onward Estate in Osogbo Local Government Area of Osun State were, yesterday, thrown into mourning when a 75-year-old grandfather, Pa Adisa Hassan, allegedly committed suicide in the storeroom of his house. The deceased popularly known as Baba Tawa, who operated three buses for his inter-city transport business was said to have hanged himself around 5.00a.m. after officers of the Vehicle Inspection Officials (VIO) seized two of his three buses. Eye-witness accounts revealed that Pa Hassan woke up alongside his family members around 5.00a.m. to observe their usual morning prayer (Subri) but changed his mind on his way to the mosque situated opposite his house and went into his store room and took his life. When journalists visited the scene of the incident, yesterday, family members and residents of the area were seen wailing even as some of his associates were discussing the mystery surrounding the tragedy. Also, a team of officers from the Disaster and Emergency Management Unit of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) was drafted to the scene to maintain order. Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of NSCDC, Mr. Ayo Olowe, revealed that a resident of the area had hinted officers at the command, which is a stone-throw from the residence of Pa Hassan before a team of officers was drafted to the area. At press time, Hassan’s corpse was still dangling from the noose as no one was allowed to enter into the room. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/11/75-yr-old-man-commits-suicide-seizure-buses/ |

Following the launch of BBM on Android and iPhone devices recently, with more than 10 million downloads in the first 24 hours, BBM has now ended its first week with more than 80 million monthly active users, including over 20 million new users on Android and iPhone devices. It would recalled that during its first week, BBM was the top free overall app in 35 countries in Google Play and in 107 countries in the App StoreSM, and continues to maintain a strong position in key markets such as Canada, the US, the UK, Indonesia and much of the Middle East, to name a few. “It is great to see so many people downloading BBM, but the true measurement for us is engagement – the connections being made and the conversations in which our BBM community engages. The power of BBM has always been the active, real conversations and interaction that our customers enjoy,” said Andrew Bocking, Executive Vice President of BBM at BlackBerry, adding that, “From here on out, we will focus on active users of BBM and will no longer focus on simple download numbers.” With the BBM community now at more than 80 million active users around the globe, users are connecting on the private social network like never before. This past weekend, BlackBerry was able to remove the virtual line-up so that Android and iPhone users can now immediately download, sign in and start using BBM without having to wait. Interestingly, BBM users are enjoying the immediacy and control that BBM offers as they chat with their new contacts – either one-to-one, in multi-person chats or as part of a BBM Group. The delivered and read statuses, as well as the message-in-progress alert, keep people engaged and active in conversations on BBM. BBM users can also share files such as photos, and voice notes, as well as update their statuses with ease. BBM Groups allows photo, calendar, chat and file sharing for up to 30 people in a user-generated community. Every BBM user has a unique PIN that helps maintain privacy, so users never have to give out their phone number or email address to a new or casual contact. BlackBerry ID connects with a person’s PIN, BBM contact list and services to make device switching quick and easy. The BBM experience will continue to evolve. In the coming months, BlackBerry will deliver BBM Video calling, BBM Voice calling and BBM Channels – a new community building service to connect BBM users even more broadly – to Android and iPhone users. ABEOKUTA — Ogun State’s first civilian deputy governor, Chief Olusesan Soluade has died at the age of 80. A statement by one of the children of the deceased, Seye, on behalf of the family, yesterday, said the late octogenarian died, Monday, at the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta at 10:45p.m. after a brief illness. The family, however, said the burial arrangement would be announced later. Meantime, Governor Ibikunle Amosun has expressed shock at the news of the demise of Chief Soluade. In a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mrs. Funmi Wakama, Amosun said he was saddened by the news of the exit of this illustrious son and former Deputy Governor, especially at a time when his wealth of experience was mostly needed, for the advancement of Ogun State. Amosun described the former Deputy Governor, as a seasoned administrator, teacher and astute politician, who devoted his life to the service of the state and humanity in general. “Ogun State has lost an illustrious son. As the first civilian Deputy Governor of the State, under the late Chief Olabisi Onabanjo, he served our people diligently. Even at the ripe old age of Eighty, he was still politically active. Baba would be sorely missed” the governor said. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/11/oguns-first-deputy-gov-dies-80/ |

LAGOS — Operatives of the Lagos State command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, and military officers have again conducted raid in search of drug barons and their drugs. The joint operation led to the arrest of 15 suspected drug traffickers with 680.266kg of narcotic drugs mainly cannabis. Among the recovered drugs were 316 grammes of methamphetamine and 200 grammes of heroin while others were cannabis. The areas covered by the raid were Akala and Akerele Agege, Lagos. The NDLEA Lagos Commander, Mr. Aliyu Sule said the operation was in response to intelligence report received on the affected locations. “We daily collect and process information on the activities of drug traffickers and conduct raid when it is expedient. The total weight of drugs seized is 680.266kg. Those apprehended are being investigated and very soon they will be charged to court,” Aliyu said. The Army Commander in charge of 9 Brigade, Brigadier General Adeniyi Oyebade assured the NDLEA that he would always provide army officers whenever their support was required. His words: “The Nigeria Army will continue to lend its support to the anti-drug campaign. The level of success anytime we get on joint operations encourages us to deepen our relationship with the NDLEA,” Oyebade said. NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive, Ahmadu Giade thanked the Brigade Commander for his continuous support to the Agency. “The support from the Nigeria Army is commendable. We shall continue to conduct similar raid operations on locations where drugs are sold and abused. This partnership with the Army shall be sustained and strengthened. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/11/ndlea-army-raid-lagos-recover-680-266kg-drugs/ |
The Lagos State Police Command, yesterday, paraded eight armed robbers, who were said to have killed two Policemen and wounded several others at Iju-Ishaga area of the state. Among the suspects is a married woman, Taiwo Obafunsho, 28, a mother of two who is also three months pregnant. Obafunsho said that she knew the gang through one of their girlfriends called Shade, who she met at Mushin where she has a shop. The other suspects are Ife Olubaba, 29 who is the alleged gang leader; Saheed Wasiu, 23; Sedu Idowu 20; Wasiu Rafiu, 23; Odelade Kabiru, 26; Waliu Sanni, 29, and Taiye Agege said to be dead. The suspects were found with two AK-47 rifles, one automatic pump-action gun, four locally-made pistols, two fully-loaded AK-47 magazines, 135 live cartridges and a Hyundai Tucson sports utility vehicle, number plate MUS 350 BG. Confessions Rafiu said: “The first operation we went for was at Agege and I was given N10,000. I was arrested at Oshodi. “I did not know anything about it. But because they saw Taiye and me together, I was arrested. I did not even know what was happening. I did not follow them during the second operation.” Another suspect, Sanni, said they took three vehicles for the operation, but that they did not find anything or any body to rob. The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Ngozi Braide, confirmed the incident, stating that it was a follow-up to what happened on November 3, where some robbers attacked policemen attached to Iju Police Station in Lagos at 3a.m. She said: “On October 9, when a group of armed robbers carted away two police riffles, the Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko, directed the officer in charge of SARS Ikeja, SP Abba Kyari, to launch a massive manhunt for the robbers and recover the snatched rifles. “Police efforts paid off when eight of the armed robbers, led by one Ife Olubaba, a boy to Godogodo, kingpin of South-West armed robbers, were arrested at various locations in Lagos and Ogun states. “During the exchange of fire between the armed robbers and crack SARS operatives, one Taiye Agege was fatally wounded.” She said all the arrested suspects confessed to have taken part in the Iju operation, where Policemen were fired. She said efforts were on to arrest the remaining gang members. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/11/pregnant-mother-two-7-others-paraded-robbery-suspects/

Family of a housewife, Amaka Okoro, allegedly murdered by her husband, Henry Okoro, over her alleged inability to bear him a child, has cried out to the Lagos State Government to prevent alleged attempt by some powerful persons to cover up the case. The late Amaka, a masters degree holder from Ladoke Akintola University, LAUTECH, Ogbomosho, and an executive marketer with VDT Communications Limited, was said to have died after a fight with her husband at their Gbagada home in Lagos. However, in a petition to the Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ade Ipaye, the deceased’s family, through their lawyer, Bamidele Ogundele, claimed that the suspect’s family was in talks with the police to duplicate the case file so that the matter will be discontinued. To this end the deceased family sent a save our soul message to the Attorney-General to ensure that justice is done in the case. The petition partly read: “Surprisingly, the defendant’s family members, particularly his uncle and father who came to the Ebute Meta magistrate’s court when the defendant was charged to court, was seen by our client discussing with the prosecutor to immediately duplicate the case file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP, to enable him kill the case file through his contacts.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/11/family-woman-allegedly-killed-childlessness-demands-justice/ |
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said Gov. Peter Obi of Anambra should be held responsible for the stampede at a vigil in Uke that left over 30 people dead, for turning a house of prayer into a house of politics In a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said had Gov. Obi and the unpopular candidate he is seeking to impose on the people of the state, Willie Obiano, not gone to the praying ground to engage in wrongful politicking, the innocent souls who died at the vigil would be alive today. It said while there is nothing wrong in a State Governor going to a vigil, such visit should not be impromptu in order for the organizers to make the necessary security arrangements, and it should also not be a licence to engage in political campaign. APC condemned the plan by Gov. Obi to set up a panel to investigate the stampede, considering that the Governor himself is at the centre of the whole tragedy. ”Setting up a panel to investigate the cause of the stampede will amount to seeking to be a judge in your own case. The only cause of the stampede is the Governor’s ill-advised visit to the vigil. Information at our disposal has it that the stampede was triggered by the Governor’s overzealous security details who manhandled congregants as their principal was exiting the venue of the vigil. The security details were said to have been irked by the murmurs of disapproval that greeted the Governor’s attempt to campaign for his candidate, Mr. Obiano. ”It is therefore disingenuous for the Governor’s spin doctors to be shifting the blame on the supporters of our candidate, Senator Chris Ngige. The simple truth is that there would have been no stampede if Gov. Obi had not come to the vigil or, even if he had come, had not attempted to politicize the gathering that was meant strictly for prayers,” APC said. The party said Gov. Obi should now take a cue from the disapproval that is trailing his desperate bid to impose a candidate on the state by ending all activities that can put the lives of Anambrarians at risk. ”We recall that an angry protest also greeted the attempt by the APGA campaign train, with Obiano in tow, to shut markets in Onitsha last month. The protests effectively short-circuited the APGA campaign. Had the Governor and his entourage learnt their lessons from the Onitsha debacle, they would not have needlessly endangered the lives of the same people whose votes they are desperately but undeservedly seeking,” it said. APC said the candidacy of Obiano is not worth the blood and tears of the good people of Anambra, hence Gov. Obi should stop trying to impose an unpopular candidate on the people. The party prayed that God will grant repose to the souls of the departed, while wishing all those injured a speedy recovery and the families of the victims the fortitude to bear their losses. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/11/uke-deadly-stampede-hold-gov-peter-obi-responsible-apc/ |
It's happening here in Onitsha. |
This is serious. My head is about to boost about this tree of life and Genesis. Some things are hidden from mankind period. And we should take it that way. I wouldn't like to ask what I have in mind to avoid the wrath of the creator. Nice write up though. |

chronique: No,you are the dumb Nigerian. So you want him to spend money that does not belong to him because a bank/depositor made an error in crediting a wrong account? What ever happened to the word honesty and dignity? Tomorrow, people like you will come here and start criticising the govt for being corrupt when you are in no wise, better. How will we ever have a great nation when dishonest and greedy people like you litter all the nooks and crannies of the state? You are one of the reasons why we have bad leaders;what happened to your conscience? If you were the victim who made the mistake, will you be happy if the money gets spent? This is how stealing starts small-small. I put it to you that you are a thief in the making;better change your ways before you graduate to a level where your greed becomes uncontrollable.Thank you bro. +100000 #OperationCleanNaija. |
Stånd: That you came here to ask shows the kind of person that you really are. People who think twice before returning what's not theirs are THIEVES!GBAM! |
