Health / First Patients Injected As UK Begins Coronavirus Vaccine Trial by Yupng: 6:00am On Apr 24, 2020
The first human trial in Europe of a coronavirus vaccine has begun in Oxford.

Two volunteers were injected out of more than 800 people recruited for the study.

Elisa Granato (pictured above), a scientist, was the first volunteer to be injected and she said she volunteered because she wanted to try to support the scientific process.

Half of those who volunteered will receive the Covid-19 vaccine, and half a control vaccine which protects against meningitis but not coronavirus.

The design of the trial means volunteers will not know which vaccine they are getting, though doctors will.

The vaccine was developed in under three months by a team at Oxford University.

Sarah Gilbert, professor of vaccinology at the Jenner Institute, led the pre-clinical research.

“Personally I have a high degree of confidence in this vaccine,” she said.

“Of course, we have to test it and get data from humans. We have to demonstrate it actually works and stops people getting infected with coronavirus before using the vaccine in the wider population,” she added.

First patients injected as UK begins Coronavirus vaccine trial
The Coronavirus vaccine is made from a weakened version of a common cold virus (known as an adenovirus) from chimpanzees that has been modified so it cannot grow in humans, according to BBC.

The Oxford team has already developed a vaccine against Mers, another type of coronavirus, using the same approach – and that had promising results in clinical trials.

The only way the Oxford team will know if the Covid-19 vaccine works is by comparing the number of people who get infected with coronavirus in the coming months from the two arms of the trial.

That could be a problem if cases fall rapidly in the UK, because there may not be enough data.

Prof Andrew Pollard, director of the Oxford Vaccine Group, who is leading the trial, said: “We’re chasing the end of this current epidemic wave. If we don’t catch that, we won’t be able to tell whether the vaccine works in the next few months. But we do expect that there will be more cases in the future because this virus hasn’t gone away.”

The vaccine researchers are prioritising the recruitment of local healthcare workers into the trial as they are more likely than others to be exposed to the virus.

A larger trial, of about 5,000 volunteers, will start in the coming months and will have no age limit.

The Oxford team is also considering a vaccine trial in Africa, possibly in Kenya, where the rates of transmission are growing from a lower base.

The trial volunteers will be carefully monitored in the coming months. They have been told that some may get a sore arm, headaches or fevers in the first couple of days after vaccination.

They are also told there is a theoretical risk that the virus could induce a serious reaction to coronavirus, which arose in some early Sars animal vaccine studies.

But the Oxford team says its data suggests the risk of the vaccine producing an enhanced disease is minimal.

Another team at Imperial College London hopes to begin human trials of its coronavirus vaccine in June.

The Oxford and Imperial teams have received more than £40m of government funding.

Programming / Re: How Much It Cost To Build An App Like Uber Or Spotify by Yupng: 4:33pm On Apr 18, 2020
200k for uber like app, including UI/UX design? That is around 500 USD?

Is either you are not a developer or a junior dev. Like seriously?

OP if you give this project to this person, you will certainly regret it. Even that money won't get you a clean professional UI/UX design.

The Spotify/uber app in nigerian standard, wont cost you less than a 1 million naira and that is if you employ the service of an average software engineer.

Do you know the complexity of such app and the time frame it will take to complete.
*ui/ux
*database setup and configuration
*backend service
*frontend - web
*mobile app - Android and ios

Unless you want a poorly design and bug filled app (like most nigeria developed app in the playstore)

resosdigital:
Before developing any kind of app or software you would first need a plan as in essence what you are building is a new business.

So, I would assume you have that part covered and just want consultations on the development part of it.

The first step in building a kind of enterprise app like uber or spotify is UI and UX design.

This is important as your app will be used by thousands of people, your Ui design needs to be clean and easy to use.

Focus also needs to be given to the UX design as the success of the app will be largely depended on its usage the user experience needs to world class in order to encourage users to keep coming back.

It is recommend that UI and UX work be done by a good designer in Adobe XD or similar UI design software.

After the designs must have been completed and approved, the next step involves transforming the designs to usable frontend components. This involves exporting the design assets and coding up the frontend part of the app.

This will he done in whatever framework you decide to use to build your app. (I recommend and use ionic).

After the frontend components are completed and you basically have a kinda usable prototype of the app, then comes the backend development.

There are lots of options available to choose from with the rise if MBAAS in recent time but I would recommend you build out your backend yourself.

The backend development involves implementing all the business logic of the app and also building all necessary APIs to be used.

I recommend and use laravel and lumen for all backend services and hosting on a cloud server.(digital ocean is recommended).

After the backend is developed and everything wired together, your app should be ready for launch.

Also note that within the first 3 months, lots of changes might be needed as you begin getting feedback from your users and discovering what works, what features they like and want etc.

Development time could stretch from between 40days to 90days though more detailed development schedule would be developed when a detail project requirements is presented.

As a UI, UX and full stack web and mobile developer I can handle this project for you and would charge 200k for the completed design and development.

If you want a more detailed proposal and project requirements and specifications document, you can reach me on WhatsApp- https:///2349054832238.

Romance / Wife Respect Your Husband To Avoid Domestic Violence In This Quarantine by Yupng: 3:08pm On Mar 31, 2020
I don't subscribe to a man raising his hands on a woman for anything in the world but no woman should dare a man either. Everybody has an elastic limit, which if overstretched, breaks.

Stop telling a man, you cannot do anything" what can you do? Do your worst ....these are challenging words and no man wants to be challenged. Stop running your mouths like public taps.

Some women go as far as jumping on the man and holding his shirt, then her head on his chest, shouting kill me today, kill me today, what's that?

Don't be the reason, a gentleman loses his cool and regrets later. You see this compulsory vacation? Don't do anyhow o, if you don't want to see anyhow and if you think I'm giving men reasons to be violent, then you are delusional. Yesterday, I gave men tips on how to live peacefully with their wives this vacation, now it's time to balance it up.

Yes, women are known to be loud mouthed, but reasonable women know when to shut it. There's a saying that " you can regret the words you spoke but you can't regret the silence you kept.

Use wisdom often, it works better.

WHY YOUR CODE DON'T SEEM TO WORK:

First, your loop will not even run, as its condition will always return false because your array length is 0. for(count = 0; ARRAY LENGTH = 0)

Secondly, for you to be able to store whatever ids you generate and compare to subsequent once, you will need to first store them in a Persistent storage or state management.

If you want to do this in the client side, you can use your localstorage or some state management - e.g Redux

Venzee:
I greet you all nairalanders.....

Please am working on a small complex project and I just got stuck in this problem since last week....

This is the problem am facing....

I want to generate a 12 base( 12 digits) random number that will be mailed to the user after registration, which will be his or her profile unique ID number..

Lemme explain it better...

For example, you signed up with us, the after registration will give u a unique ID number for login in to your account...

Now the problem is, the Math.random() function will sometimes generates exatexa the same number it has generated before
Now am looking for mathod that check if the the id number already exists, if I dose not exists generate another number but if it exists, ignore the ID number and generate another one .

That is the problem am facing because each user will have a unique ID number.

This is the codes I used to do it, but I doesn't work as expected..

// Please am using both ES5 and ES6

const user_id_generator = (
var IDs, id_dataDB, id_numb_limit;
IDs = [];

// base 12 id number
id_numb_limit = 999999999999;

//Generating random number
let generator =
Math.floor(Math.random(id_numb_limit)+1 );

// to add the random number to the IDs
IDs.push(generator);

function check_ID_number(){
//Old school for loop
for (var count = 0; count < IDs.length;
count++){
var create_new_id_number;
if (generator !== IDs[count]){
IDs.push(generator)

} else if (generator === IDs[count]{
create_new_id_number =
generator;
IDs.push(create_new_id_number)
}}
}
check_ID_number();
)();

This is just for the ID generator, but is not working as expected...

Please if you have any idea on how to solve this problem, please your comment is highly needed..

A shocking video shows the moment a taxi driver brought out his male member and began stroking it while he was driving a female passenger in Abuja.

The driver is seen with one hand on the gear stick and the other on the steering wheel. All this while, his male member is erect but hidden by his black t-shirt.

After a while, he removes his hand from the steering wheel and places it on his male member, then strokes it through his shirt. Later, he pushes his shirt aside, exposing his naked penis and he begins masturbating, not minding the female passenger in his car.

"The rubbish I witnessed today in a taxi in abj," the female passenger wrote on Twitter as she shared the video.

There is nothing to celebrate. He should not have been locked up in the first place. They knew what he was about and whatever charges brought against him were mere threat to frighten and silent any form of opposition.

This government is oppressive and dont what anyone to challenge them. Buhari is more focused on protecting his presidency than uplifting the lives of Nigerians. They have sent the message already, which is FEAR.

They want us all to be afraid to ever raise our voices against their government. APC is going nowhere 2023. They a bunch of desperados who are capable of doing anything to hold on to power.

Travel / Reasons Why Immigrants Are Now Leaving Canada by Yupng: 5:18pm On Sep 14, 2019
Canada the main problem is it is very tough to find a job that fits your home country qualification and experience. A manager in India can expect to be a clerk for several years. Canada is a small country compared to US so economy is small hence job problems.

If one lives in province other than Ontario and BC, then winters can be very very cold. Start up here is expensive, from apartment rentals to car insurance being two main stabs on the wallet.

Buying a home now is good $500K investment so one needs to save atleast $50K for down payment, so you are talking several years of apartment and basement living. If your kids are born and raised here then you would not want to take them back to India unless you are very well off. Health care is pretty good, although if you are NOT in critical state then 3-4-5 hours wait can be expected.

If you are working then companies do have medicine relief programs and even dental payments upto 80% for non cosmetic treatments.

It is quite a shame that some supposedly Nigerians who claim to reside in SA are here encouraging Nigerians to still visit South Africa despite the very glaring discrimination and maltreatment of Nigerians in SA.

I lived in SA for close to 3 years, both capetown and Johannesburg and I will state this clearly, South africans hates Nigerians with extreme passion across all levels of society. On a first glance, you might not see this, but just live among them for a while, you will begin to notice the deep hatred they have towards black africans, especially Nigerians.

This uprising will not stop, as their government also wants low income foreigners to leave. Stop encouraging Nigerians to go south africa where at all levels they are discriminated against. Besides, 80 percent of Nigerian's living in south Africa are extremely poor, as people over there would rather trust a snake than a Nigerian.

For once, Nigerians in SA please speak the truth. It is this falsified information you spread that makes many Nigerians rush to SA and end up jobless and go into illegal businesss.

Do you know how many Nigerians have been killed by south africans and their policemen? Because it has not happened to you doesn't mean it is not happening. If you have any respect for your life or you believe you have any sought of future, do not go to south Africa.

Travel / Why Is Canada Taking Immigrants When There Are No Opportunities? by Yupng: 4:47am On Jun 06, 2019
Saw this post on quora.com and thought to share. what do you?

Some of the other answers here demonstrate this resentment of immigrants which lies beneath the surface of a country that portrays itself as an immigration angel, yet in actuality has a shrewd and rather non-humanitarian attitude to immigrants compared to its ‘neighbor to the south’ and the nations of Europe.

Canada has a merit-based immigration system. Roughly 65% of immigrants in Canada are taken for their economic value to Canada, while in the USA 65% are taken for humanitarian reasons - family reunification. (See link at the bottom). Canada also seeks immigrants who bring money! Once these immigrants get here, they find themselves having a harder time finding work than immigrants in the USA, because the place is flooded with highly qualified people, with a relatively small population and a finite economy due in part to the declining population. They face an underlying attitude amongst the well-established class that you should start out at the bottom, and get out there and shovel snow and work your way up, even if you were a nuclear physicist in Iran. This is the ‘Canadian experience’ issue, which is a watered-down, polished up version of racism. You only have to read a few of these answers here to have that attitude demonstrated. Canada is a great country and I am being a bit harsh in this judgment, but Canadians tend to judge America as racist, when Canada has its problems too. America’s open discourse on this issue is a part of its process of striving to form a more perfect union. The noisy debate on racism in the media makes its problems seem worse than they actually are. Canada’s desire to differentiate itself from this perceived racist mess in America results in its own problems being swept under the carpet.

But… this question asks, why is Canada bringing immigrants when there is no opportunity? (Again, the attitude of the established class - I got my job, you immigrants go shovel snow and work your way up!) The reason Canada is doing this is both economic and social (and the two are related).

ECONOMIC

High household debt: Like the USA, Canada has a big problem with rising national debt as the thirty-year experiment of embracing an ideological model of free-market globalization continues to play out with jobs and wealth flowing to developing countries as our governments support the interests of big businesses that prefer this. But the even bigger problem is Canada’s extraordinarily high household debt - the highest of the 35 OECD countries by a wide margin, 20% higher than the USA. (See link at bottom). Why is this?
Trickle down economy: Unlike the EU model, Canada chooses to float its currency even though its economy is integrally linked with the USA, and the vast majority of exports go to the USA. The currencies were tied in the 1960’s, but Canada broke off this system in the way Britain is breaking away from the EU now - Brexit/Canexit. (Yet you’ll find most Canadians adopting the ideological view of Brexit as some sort of scary nationalist movement, when their own country went nationalist 40 years ago. The Canadian government exploits anti-American sentiment to keep it this way). The Loonie has floated low, a situation Canadian big business prefers for the benefit to exports, yet as the US and Canadian economies are linked, prices for Canadians are valued at the USD, thus Canadians end up paying 20% more than Americans for everything. And how much higher is Canadian household debt than American household debt? 20% higher. Go figure… Canadian government, to include the liberal party, (actually especially the liberal party), embraces this system to support big Canadian commodity business - mostly oil - with the attitude that the benefits will trickle down to the rest of us. This is Canada’s ‘deep state’ conspiracy theory that has a lot of validity. It is Canada’s version of a trickle-down economy. This is why the Loonie is said to be a ‘petrocurrency.’
High taxes: Canada’s somewhat socialist structure nurtures dependency, with the needy and oppressed lining up for benefits, and pushing for more and more. Again and again the Canadian government simply piles the burden onto the hard working middle class in the form of high taxes, and the system goes on over-taxing the population right out of existence. Literally. Read below. A steady flow of immigrants with money and qualifications are needed.
SOCIAL

Declining birth rate: Canada’s birth rate is 1.5 children per family, obviously well below the level of replacement. So immigrants with money and qualifications are needed, yet they enter a country with a declining population and only so much opportunity for the good jobs. They face the ‘go shovel snow’ attitude among the established class who hold down a finite number of good jobs. It’s a product of a decent, but stagnant economy with a relatively small and declining population.
Identity politics: Like most of the West, the established population (ok, lets just say it - white people) have, since the cultural revolution of the 1960’s, slowly embraced self-orientation over family-orientation. The divorce culture, radical feminism, victim culture, ‘rights’ orientation over ‘responsibility’ orientation, have broken down the family model, resulting in the declining birth rate. Canada needs family-oriented immigrants (with money and qualifications) to come in here and compensate for this failing Western self-orientation model. First generation immigrants come and reproduce as they would in their native land where they unconsciously put their needs second to family, and worked hard for little reward. Why did they do this in their native lands? Because without the generous social safety net provided in the West, social security was created within the family structure. You built a family because family is the support network. Family look after each other, care for their sick, and care for their elderly, who in turn care for their grand kids as the working age family members go out and work hard. However, in Canada the kids of these first generation immigrants grow up more coddled by Canadian society, and face the same economic challenges of the established population - Canada is too expensive to raise a family. The second generation quickly adapt to the self-orienting, benefit-seeking Western culture, and fall in line with the low-birth rate norm. So the system needs to constantly replenish itself with more of those tough kinds of immigrants who build families as a product of an innate sense of familial duty built into their culture. They maintain the population and support at least a stable economy.
Victim culture: This is related to identity politics. In our present Western model, everyone is lining up to claim victim status and special privilege. The country needs those immigrants who were working their asses off in Nigeria for peanuts to come here and do the same, so the victim culture can carry on exploring their self-oriented victimhood, seeking special privilege.
This has been a rather cynical response to this answer, but unless you’re a radical green person who hopes for the extinction of the human race, a birth rate well below the level of replacement combined with very high living costs is a rather negative situation. I’m not saying there is a grand conspiracy in Canada to rip off immigrants. But the stack of questions on this topic here on Quora (look to your right) are indicating that there is a problem here. These economic and social things are linked, and the result is a necessary flow of immigrants chosen for their economic value to Canada, finding themselves living in an extraordinarily expensive country with limited opportunity, having a hard time making ends meet, and finding it difficult to build a family as they would be inclined to do in their culture. More immigrants are needed to keep this system going. Ask any Uber driver about this.

That is not exactly true. Rwanda is more cleaner, organise and develop than most african countries.

Ops probably went to stay in some cheap. Neighbourhood to save cost i guess.

Because that's how Rwanda is. Most of these countries are quite poor, although they are emerging and trying to open up their country for business and development

So op you went to Rwanda and these are the pictures you could share with us. Who would want to go to Rwanda after seeing this slum looking pictures.

It seems you went to stay in their township areas. Very boring and uninteresting thread.

This op is boring and dry. Why open a thread if you know you are not ready to give details about the place and show some pictures.
