…APC Kicks, heads to court By ibrahim HassanWuyo In Zamfara state, the Chairman of Maradun Local Government Council, Alhaji Ahmad Abubakar and his deputy, Alhaji Shehu Muhammad Faru have been impeached. Speaking to journalists on Thursday in Maradun , Councillor representing Dosara/Birnin Kaya ward, Kabiru Muhammad Danwanti said 9 out of the 10 councillors took the decision because the impeached officials were guilty of alleged gross misconduct and incompetence. He said the chairman and vice chairman were unable to discharge their duties as provided by the 1999 constitution as well as the fourth schedule and section 22(2) of the local government law of 2013. Danwanti, Speaker of the council alleged that the chairman since inception , had refused to conduct council meetings contrary to Local Government Law of Zamfara state section 28(1) that provides for meeting at least once a month. He said “based on the foregoing, we the undersigned hereby pass impeachment resolution on the executive chairman, Hon. Ahmad Abubakar and his vice chairman, Hon. Shehu Muhammad Faru of Maradun local government today 21st May, 2020.” “Meanwhile, from today 21st May, 2020, we the honorable councillors have resolved and agreed that the councillor representing Maradun South, Hon. Mohammed Sirajo Madugu shall serve and take over as the substantive Executive chairman, Maradun Local Government Council pending the expiration of our tenure,” he said. Meanwhile, opposition political party in the state, t he All Progressive Congress APC (APC), has kicked against the impeachment, saying the courts would declare it null and void. According to the APC , the impeachment will not stand as the crisis between the chairman and the councilors was before a competent court of law Chairman of the APC in Zamfara state,Alhaji Lawal M. Liman told journalists on Thursday, that the development was unfortunate and handiwork of the PDP in Zamfara state He said ” it was rather unfortunate that the state PDP government will influence the impeachment knowing full well that the matter between the chairman and his councilors is before a competent court of law.” “The APC as law abiding party will continue to pursue legal means to ensure that justice prevails I am confident that the court will do the needful. We will not be intimidated by that illegal action and we are hopeful the chairman will finish his 3 years term when the court case is finally determined”. Liman however, appealed to APC supporters in the state to remain calm and be law abiding as they wait for the court to address the matter. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2020/05/zamfara-lg-chairman-vice-chair-impeached-2/

By Joseph Erunke THE Federal Government has warned against resumption of any school at any level, saying all schools remained closed. Acting on the government’s directive, National Universities Commission, NUC, has warned vice chancellors against reopening universities for any activities. The government, in a circular dated Friday, May 8, 2020, to heads of commissions and regulatory bodies in the education sector, insisted that schools at all levels were still closed, asking them to ignore fake news in the social media that it had directed resumption of schools. The Ministry of Education, in the letter, through the Permanent Secretary, Sonny Echono, entitled: Re: Management of Coronavirus Pandemic,” said: “All schools shall remain closed as we closely monitor developments on the containment of COVID-19.” The circular was sent to the executive secretaries, National Universities Commission, NUC; National Board for Technical Education, NBTE; National Commission for Colleges of Education, NCCE, and the Director, Basic and Secondary Education, BSE. It read: “Further to our earlier circular, FME/PSE/HE/1041/C 1/Vol.1/137 of 19th March, 2020, this is to confirm that all schools shall remain closed as we monitor developments on the containment of COVID-19. “This is without prejudice to officers on essential services and other operational exigencies as may be determined by the chief executive of each institution. “All chief executives and other stakeholders are to ignore ‘fake news’ on the subject matter in the social media as the situation is under constant review and any decision on the resumption shall be conveyed through the appropriate channels.“ Following the directive by the ministry, the NUC has written to vice chancellors asking them to ensure the sustenance of ongoing closure of universities until further notice. In a letter to all vice chancellors, signed by Director, Directorate of Executive Secretary’s Office, Chris Maiyaki, the NUC enjoined them to strictly adhere to the ministry’s directive that all universities remain closed to activities. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2020/05/covid-19-all-schools-remain-closed-says-fg/

Rev. Uche Ibeabuchi is highhanded, he has forcefully sold community lands and converted proceeds to his personal use. Notorious Rev. |
Tony Okafor, Awka The Okuzu-Oba Community in the Idemili Local Government Area of Anambra State has rejected the nomination of Rev. Uche Ibeabuchi into the Federal Character Commission. The community has also petitioned the Senate urging it not to confirm the nominee. The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), had nominated Ibeabuchi and some others into the commission. The petition was signed by Edwin Obiabumuo, Basil Okeke and Obi Anachuna for and on behalf of the Okuzu- Oba Traditional Council of Idemili South LGA. It read in part, “We, the people of Okuzu- Oba Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State write to protest the proposed appointment of Rev. Uche Ibeabuchi, as representative of Anambra State at the Federal Character Commission. “Rev. Uche Ibeabuchi is highhanded, he has forcefully sold community lands and converted proceeds to his personal use. “In view of the criminal charges and his character indictment in a pending matter, it is our collective decision that Rev. Uche Ibeabuchi is not a fit and proper person to represent us. “We therefore oppose his nomination and confirmation and hereby request for the appointment of a competent character to represent the state at the Federal Character Commission.” However, in a telephone interview, Ibeabuchi, accused an unnamed community leader of instigating the malice against him. Ibeabuchi, said, “He is the person paying and mobilising the youths in the area against me for selfish reasons. “I have opposed his evil machinations in the community for years and his thinking now is that my nomination would give me an edge over him. “He doesn’t want anybody to grow above him, but he is not God. He is just an evil man.” https://punchng.com/community-rejects-buharis-anambra-fcc-nominee/

“We urge the PDP to come clean on why it is asking the President to embark on a state visit now. |
By Omeiza Ajayi ABUJA: The ruling All Progressives Congress APC has berated the Peoples Democratic Party PDP for asking President Muhammadu Buhari to visit the Covid-19 ravaged Kano state, accusing the opposition party of having sinister motives. APC also chided the PDP for attacking the Kano state Governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje’s handling of the pandemic, saying the party should have cautioned its own Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo state who had organized a political rally in Ibadan, the state capital at a time the country was working to mitigate the spread of the virus. National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu stated this in a statement on Sunday night. The statement reads; “The All Progressives Congress (APC) condemns in very strong and unequivocal terms the latest attempt by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to rubbish the commendable efforts of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration in tackling the scourge of Covid-19 pandemic currently ravaging the world. “This is yet another infantile and desperate attempt by the opposition party to play petty politics with a serious matter of national and international importance. “The latest baseless accusation by the PDP that the APC-led government has not lived up to its responsibility of protecting the people of Kano State against the backdrop of some deaths recorded in the state is a case in point. “This allegation is not only baseless, but very irresponsible. It is false in its entirety. “Shockingly, while all well-meaning organisations, home and abroad, and individuals are putting in positive shifts to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has rather chosen to dance on the graves of the unfortunate Nigerians that have been killed by the disease. “PDP has this rare opportunity to stand up to be counted by making positive contributions to end the scourge, but this opposition party thinks this is the time to politicise Coronavirus cases and deaths, particularly in Kano State. “We invite the PDP to borrow a leaf from the patriotic efforts being made by the cross-party platform, the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), who has kept politics aside and joined the President Buhari government in jointly, proactively and frontally combating the pandemic which is currently a threat to our very existence. The PDP must understand that only the living can play politics. “The APC would, once again, refresh the memory of the PDP, since the party appears irredeemably lost in its present, unenviable state of idleness and irrelevance. “Weeks before the pandemic hit Nigeria, this administration had started taking practical steps in preparation for it. “The PDP may claim to be unaware, but emergency operations centres have been established in states to serve as coordination platforms and are networked to a national incident coordination centre. Many states are now better equipped and prepared to coordinate within and across their borders in combating the coronavirus. From just about four testing laboratory centres, NCDC has 15 testing centres as at today with testing capacity increasing to over 3000 daily from just a few hundreds weeks ago. “While it is clear that no single country, including the advanced nations, boasts adequate capacity to respond at once to this pandemic, and are all working hard to scale up capacity to contain the spread of Corvid-19 and in the same vein making efforts to find a cure for it, the APC-led government has not been found wanting in protecting the lives of all Nigerians, except for PDP that is incurably irrational. “Nigeria has received commendations from bodies like the World Health Organisation (WHO), the European Union. The Presidents of West African countries under the aegis of ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government have appointed President Muhammadu Buhari as Champion of the COVID-19 response. Our successes achieved so far in our Coronavirus response happened without the insidious prodding of the PDP. “When the PDP held a rally in Oyo State in a most irresponsible manner and against public outcry, at a period the Corvid-19 cases had already been recorded in Nigeria, perhaps it was a deliberate effort by the opposition party to jeopardise the lives of the people of this country. It is not surprising that the Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, who was making a joke of the pandemic got no cautionary words from PDP. We may never know the damage caused by the ill-advised rally held by PDP in Oyo State. But it suits the opposition party to attack the Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje to score cheap political points. “To make the matter worse, quite unfortunately, the PDP is asking President Buhari to embark on a state visit to Kano. The opposition party believes that there should be a Presidential movement to anywhere in this country at this period, least of a densely populated city like Kano. Have they suddenly forgotten what it means to have the President visit Kano State at a period like this that requires social distancing and when much of the country is under a lockdown order? “We urge the PDP to come clean on why it is asking the President to embark on a state visit now. “Nigerians should ask PDP if it is praying that the whole of Kano and, indeed, Nigeria be swarming with Corvid-19 cases and corpses in order to fit into its known and unpatriotic wishes against our beloved country”, the statement added. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2020/04/covid-19-apc-slams-pdp-for-asking-buhari-to-visit-kano/
