www.punchng.com/news/lady-escapes-from-ogun-kidnappers-skeletons-found/ The Ogun State Police Command on Wednesday uncovered another suspected ritualists den in the Unity and Peace Estate along Itele-Lafenwa Road, Ota, Ado Odo-Ota Local Government Area of the state. The latest discovery was made possible by the miraculous escape of a 28-year- old lady, who had been kept in an uncompleted building in the estate with her hands and feet bound. The lady, who also had her face covered with cloth and her mouth gagged, was said to have been told by her captors that they would come for her in the night. But she was reported to have struggled to free herself and rolled towards the entrance of the building. It was there that passers-by in the area saw her and rescue her. She had sustained injuries on her head. The lady did not disclose her identity before policemen from Itele Police Station arrived at the scene, and cordoned off the area. When policemen combed the surroundings of the uncompleted building, decomposing bodies of two female victims were found in the bush. Bones of other victims also littered the place. Narrating how she got into the den, the lady said she had met one of her captors two weeks ago, and they struck a relationship. But she said the man called about two days ago, that he had secured a contract of N1.5m for her at a site in the estate where she would supply bags of cement. But on getting to the site, the ‘boyfriend’, who lured her to the building, was joined by other members of the gang who had hid in the bush, and they began to rough-handle her. She said, “I met one of the ritualists’ two weeks ago and the relationship became deeper after the guy introduced himself as a contractor and promised to link me up with juicy contracts. “The man called me two days ago and told me about a contract worth about N1.5m but I could not go and meet him because I was sick. The man later came to my residence in Lagos and still persuaded me to come for the contract deal. “But on getting to the Unity and Peace Estate, we headed for an uncompleted building. One other person joined us. But I was surprised when got to the building, I smelt a rat, because the building was already plastered and the floor had been cemented too. “But before I knew what hit me, both of them pounced on me, beat me up and attempted to rape me. But I was having my monthly flow, that was what dissuaded them. They then tied both my hands and legs, covered my face and mouth with cloth. They promised to come back at night to complete their assignment. It was a miracle that passers-by rescued me.” Some residents of the community, who spoke with journalists, said they were startled at the discovery. Some of them claimed that they always perceived some unpleasant odour from the area but believed it emanated from a poultry farm nearby. It was gathered that the policemen had arrested the owner of the building while the suspected kidnappers and ritualists were on the run. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident, stressing that the scene was not a normal environment, which he claimed should be ritualists or kidnappers den. Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of police, confirmed that two decomposing bodies and some human skeletons were recovered from the scene |

Niger State House of Assembly yesterday impeached its Speaker, Alhaji Adamu Usman, and elected Alhaji Isa Kawu as the new Speaker. The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that this followed the barring of the members from accessing the complex Tuesday morning by a combined team of security personnel from the Police, SSS and the Civil Defence Corps. Eighteen members out of 27 voted for Usman’s impeachment, the motion was moved by Mr Jacob Maaji (Lavun constituency) and seconded by Mr Ibrahim Dama (Katcha constituency). Other newly elected officials included Alhaji Bello Agwara, Deputy Speaker; Hajiya Sa’adatu Kolo (Mashegu constituency), Chief Whip, and Alhaji Yusuf Kure as Majority Leader. After his swearing in by the Clerk of the House, Kawu pledged to ensure a harmonious working relationship in the legislature within the short period remaining. ‘’We will ensure that our legislative duty continued as usual and our oversight functions will be strengthened for better results to the people,” he said. Reacting to his removal outside the Assembly complex, Usman told newsmen that the impeachment was null and void, insisting that he remains the speaker. He said that the Chief Judge of the state has given an order restraining the House, the Clerk and security agencies from recognising the new officials. Usman added that no allegation was levelled against him that could warrant his removal. Meanwhile, Usman said his alleged impeachment is a warning sign for the state Governor, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu to sit up, just as he insisted he is still Speaker. But, the new Speaker, Kawu, said the impeachment process was not targetted at the governor, saying: ” I am right now, begining to even see him.” Usman at a press conference in Minna, said the sacking of the leadership of the house by the 19 members is null and void and of no effect, arguing that, he is still the speaker of the house. “I am alerting the governor that he should be aware. He should be aware that whatever befalls me will befall him too. He should be prepared.” He expressed joy that the action of the lawmakers was not due to financial mismanagement, saying:” Since January 2015, we have never received overhead cost because of problems associated with federation account. Everybody is aware. I do not control finance, as it comes I disburse. So, the impeachment beats my imagination. The embattled Speaker explained that already, an order of interim injunction restraining the defendants (lawmakers) jointly and sererally from setting in motion any process of impeachment pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice signed by Justice Fati Abubakar has been served to them. “Whatever you see today is illegal because the Mace is under my custody. So whatever decision they took today (Tuesday), is illegal.” “Myself the Speaker, my deputy, the Chief Whip and the Majority Leader are still in charge. There are grudges that government had not done anything to them as expected. We are making efforts to see what we can do about it. But we are hearing they carried out an impeachment without any offence. Kawu insisted that the decision taken by the 19 lawmakers was in conformity with the rules of the game. nationalmirroronline.net/new/niger-assembly-impeaches-speaker-elects-kawud/ |
Two persons were murdered by young boys suspected to be members of a secret cult around Iboku Street near Ambo Street in Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State. The victims were murdered on Saturday evening by a rival cult gang operating in the neighbourhood in a bid to exert superiority and supremacy over another cult gang. A resident of the area, one Mr. Donatus Ikpeme, who claimed to be an eyewitness, said the two died as a result of gunshots by the police to scare the cult gangs. It is commonly thought that secret cults and crimes were prevalent in Calabar South area of Cross River State, leading to crimes like pick- pockets and armed robbery. But police public relations officer in the state, Hogan Bassey, said they were aware of the cult clash that led to the death of the two, who were not easily identified. Bassey said they were doing everything possible to track down the perpetrators. On Sunday night, another set of cult groups, the Scorpions and the Black Cats, also clashed on Idang Street near Ibesikpo, where they shot sporadically into the air. However, another dangerous gang which dominates the area, the Idang Boys, challenged them for invading their territory, and succeeded in scaring them away. Two months ago, Idang Boys were alleged to have killed one of their members, Eteka, who was accused of tormenting the Ambo, Idang and Ibesikpo neighbourhood even after signing an undertaking not to operate in the ‘home neighbourhood nationalmirroronline.net/new/cultists-kill-two-in-calabar/ |

With about three weeks to the May 29, 2015 time frame given by the military to totally clear Sambisa forest of the remnants of the Boko Haram terrorists, Vanguard, yesterday, gathered that the number of women, young ladies and children rescued by special forces has hit 1,000. Military sources disclosed that consequent on the pursuit of the terrorists and the sustained air and land bombardments, the terrorists have become tired of running away with many of the women particularly the younger ladies still in the possession. The attempt to continue running with the ladies is made worse by the fact that the limited vehicles and trucks in their possession with which they have been ferrying the women and girls, have become a problem following the bursting of their fuel supply source. www.vanguardngr.com/2015/05/sambisa-forest-onslaught-rescued-women-children-now-1000/ |
