Ran away from here long ago hoping to return with applause when people of the so-called most educated state in Naija protested the non existence of social infrastructures in parts of Imo state outside the capital territory; and the state govt bowed to the demands of the people. But No Dice.
For example, Rochas Okorocha's administration started the process of modernising social infrastructures in Anara, Okigwe, Orlu, Nwaorieubi, etc. and built quasi uncountable number of rural roads from the scratch, all over Imo state; however substandard the construction, because of the numerosity of the roads. Those Okorocha's roads opened up many of the once inaccessible rural areas in Imo state, and joined them to the state's transportation grid. How many of those rural roads, most of them now dilapidated, have been reconstructed even with asphalt since this administration came on board? Building roads from the scratch is not asa anwuru, not cheap; reconstruction is by far, very much cheaper.

In contrast Orlu is looking unkempt with heaps of sand on roads and demarcations along the newly built Owerrii road while the older roads done by Okorocha in 2012 are riddled with potholes and need rehabilitation. Hello guys. I have been following the Eastern threads on Nairaland as a guest for about 4 months now and as a person who has spent all his life in Lagos, I must confess that the South East is much better than the picture I had previously painted in my mind. As an Igbo man who has never crossed Asaba before, the pictures I have seen from the 5 eastern threads on Nairaland has made me decide that I must visit the East when next I travel to Asaba for Christmas.

With the kind of beautiful pictures I have been seeing here and the mindset most Nigerians have about the East, there seem to be a disconnect because most Nigerians don't even know that good things happen in the East. You guys are trying with the exposure by taking pictures of the various Eastern cities but it is not really enough. I think it is time to get more professional with our exposure drive. Nairaland is good for exposure as it's pages get indexed by Google quickly but Nairaland has some disadvantages which are:

1) Images on Nairaland are heavily compressed so they lose much of their quality.

2) The images on various pages are usually mixed with awkward images posted by people who may be envious of the development strides of the East. It does not go well when a tourist is viewing images of Owerri or Onitsha on Nairaland and starts seeing dirty images of wastes and canals, some of which are not even images from the East.

Due to the disadvantages I mentioned above, I am here with a collaborative proposal where we can come together to promote the East on more professional and popular image platforms like Pinterest, Getty, Unsplash and Pexels etc. The idea is to put our heads together, take beautiful pictures of our cities and get them to be accepted on those platforms I mentioned earlier. I wanted to do this alone but, I currently live and work in Lagos so it's impossible for me to take pictures of the East.

Here is how it will work:

1) We create a group where we can share suggestions and images. All members of the group will be known as "contributors".

2) I will be responsible for photo editing, keyword and key phrase research, and uploading the images on the various platforms. Those platforms have pretty high standards for the quality of the images uploaded there, and that is were I come in to edit the photos to try to meet their quality standards.

3) You guys who usually upload images on Nairaland can share these high quality images in a Zip file in the group so I can work on them.

I am hoping that if we get images of our cities on those image platforms, it can help in creating better exposure of the cities in the East. If you search for images of our cities on Google or Pinterest, you may not be impressed with what you will see. Most of the images are of very poor quality which is a huge turn off and they don't really showcase the East well enough. It also doesn't have to be stressful, all we need are about 20 - 50 images of each major Eastern city. That should be enough at least for now.

I am currently working on creating accounts on the platforms I listed and I am hoping to get collaborators to join me on this small project. Remember that we don't always have to wait for someone somewhere to do it, we can actually do it ourselves. If you are interested in this project, kindly quote me. I will open either a WhatsApp group or a Telegram group for all members/contributors to join.

Please I also want you all to note that this not a money making venture, so don't expect to get financial rewards. If you are familiar with the platforms I listed above, you will know that they are all free platforms. The mission of this project is to promote our land and not to make money just as you don't make a dime from Nairaland. I'm from Okpanam in Delta state and we have a family house in Asaba. I've not really thought about visiting the East until I saw these Igbo threads on Nairaland.

Your otherwise lengthy but innocuous comment here on 24/05/2024, the day you registered first on NL, can attract suspicions. If not, you have what could pass as good ideas.
But on Imo state, you get bored by the time some people dish out photos of every road junction in Owerri while knowledgeable ones question why Owerri city is the only place with modern urban infrastructures in Imo state.
