I was listening to a brand expert on AIT yesterday and he was talking about human brands. He cited Nelson Mandela as the number one brand that South Africa has. And when they presenter asked him if Nigeria had a Human Brand and he answered in the affirmative but said that most of the brands are regional rather than National. Meaning that there's no single person that is loved by majority of Nigerians from different parts of the country and i agree with his sentiment.

If one mentions Nnamdi Azikiwe, the person has to complete it with Ahmadu Bello and Obafemi Awolowo. How come we don't have a Nationalistic figure?

You're right but these people are more popular in Lagos than anywhere else. They don't have huge following in the nooks and crannies of Nigeria.

It's weird that we don't have someone in the mold of Mandela, Ghandi and Abraham Lincoln. This is a pointer that buttresses the fact that we're not a nation but a country full of Nations.

There's absolutely nothing 'weird' about it. There are over 200 countries on earth. How many of them have a 'national icon' you can readily name?

Less than 10 I'm sure!

So what IS weird is having a 'national icon', not lacking one.

National figure? None for now and perhaps never in future. Nigeria is too disunited and full of ethnic bigots to have a national figure.

FELA is a National Icon

And the Afrika Shrine has long been a place where Nigerians from all tribes, religions, and beliefs can come together to enjoy tha Kpoli

If that isn't Nationalistic enough, then I don't know what is... undecided
