Very sweet, its a specie of rat but its tail end is white. We use to call it Rabbit,( not bunny). Just yesterday 2 teenage boys killed one inside the blocks arranged on my site. It brought back sweet m$emories of our kpako life style, growing up in the ghetto.

It is called Rodent in English,Yoruba calls OKETE, Igbo calls it EWI.It not a specie of grascutter.

You said giant rat..how would I know it was a giant rat? You could have cooked the rat whole without cutting into pieces...that way it would make sense in picture....u tried.

Got to taste this meat, when I was in the university,(Uniben), off campus in osasogie, my neighbors then use to hunt it. I must confess, its very tasty, if u prepare and fry it, cook stew with it, ppl will mistake it for chicken.they had a special name for it then, "lette"

This one na one of he best delicacy...We de set trap for am for village no be small. I remember my smoking cup and waterproof bag we de take block the bursting hole...I still de chop am.

I'm not interested about the giant mouse pepper soup. What I really wanna know is what crappy phone took such blurry pics.
The camera resolution must be at about 0.5 Megapixel, at least.

I remember this rodent. Most of them live in the village toilet. You will spend resources building your pit toilet and they will wreck it while tunneling to get access to your poo. It is sweet though, like fish, dog and other animals that eat shit.

Cut the meat into small sizes,wash an put in a pot, add all the ingredients except the scent leaves and cook for about 25 minutes, add the sliced scent leaves,stir and serve.Enjoy

I dey chop am wella 4 ma villa back in the days. The thin sweet die cheesy, then we dey set them trap 4 night and early mornin, we go com check whether e don catch one. hahaha tongue. i hunt d thin wella then. grin

Ewi is not the grasscutter, ewi is a giant bush rat. The grasscutter is called 'nchi', huge, wild and very tasty meat much more expensive than beaf. We drive more than 5 kiloeters to villages to eat well prepared grasscutters with palm wine and it aint cheap.

You certain are correct.
Nchi = Grasscutter
Ewi = Greater Cane rat(Giant bush rat).
@OP, your good intent was marred by choice of words and poor presentation(picture & cutlery). Next time, pay attention to these and your effort will pay.
Most of those forming here have tasted this meat(bush rat) before even their civilized kins(those ones that live in pit toilets in the urban places). Its meat is tasty though if well prepared.

Giant rats(Cricetomys emini) are not a rare species of grasscutter. Though both are from the same order, they are not of the same family.
