Gen. Diya was crossed examined at the Human Rights Violation Commission (HRVIC) on the coup plan 1997 to overthrow Gen. Sanni Abacha, He bluntly denied the fact that he was part of the plan but he admitted he knew about the plan. He further explained that he was afraid of being killed by the Coup Master Planner if he revealed the plan.

He denied pleading with Gen. Sanni Abacha but was shocked to see the video where he truly knelt down before Gen. Sanni Abacha as tendered by the Lawyer.

Gen. Diya Oladipo then was appointed as Chief of Defense Staff. He was appointed Chief of General Staff in 1993 and Vice Chairman of the Provisional Ruling Council in 1994. In 1997 Diya and dissident soldiers in the military allegedly planned to overthrow the regime of Sani Abacha. The alleged coup was uncovered by forces loyal to Abacha, and Diya and his cohorts were jailed. Diya was tried in a military tribunal, and was given the death penalty.

give us the scoop... i understand the role that human rights play in society but what i saw in this video sound more like a discovery into who planned what coup and what happened to them, sort of an internal investigation into military officers abusing one another. how is that related to humans rights violation of civilians in society?

Did Abacha really spare his life? Didn't he lock them up somewhere? Methinks Abacha was getting around to their execution, before the CIA put him to sleep.

then the "human rights violation" group has allowed itself and its name to be tainted by having association with the panel. there is nothing remotely of. any violation of human rights here. an investigation by the govt maybe ok but to have human rights banner flying on the wall is a deceit.

if hausa army officers target yoruba officers, thats their problem within their corps to handle........not drag human rights into it. otherwise when we truly have an abuse on civilian population to go before the organization. im afraidbut it may no longer have a reverence and legitimacy.

on another issue connected with the coup, even if diya was involved in the coup, why did the entire yoruba officers have to suffer for it? was there something about those officers that intimidated abacha?
