By tomorrow,we will be posting a list of cars you can buy with 300-500k at the cotonou parks,this is in a bid to integrate customers who have been asking for low end cars but please our customers are warned that the prices we will be posting doesnt cover the payment of custom duty to Nigerian Customs service.

We have also noticed that so many of our customers are also getting the issue of prices from the parks wrong,so we are going to use a benz ML as an example.

When you need the jeep,this is what we will give you-
1.4M (actual purchase price)+ 380k (Custom duty).

Now the actual purchase price covers every payment you have to make in Cotonou (security,card,battery,escort) and the reason why we do this is just because we dont want you to bother yourselves with the documentations in Cotonou since we are representing you as agents,all you need do is to actually meet the dealer/importer one on one and bargain for a lower price,which means you can offer him 1m or 1.2m,it all depends on your budget.just last week,someone brought a 2012 camry LE with leather seats,almost brand new with 12,000km for 3.9M for the parks and initially the asking price was 4.2m but we took him directly to the white man in-charge of the stand and they bargained.

The reason why we cant negotiate on your behalf is because we actually want you to be physically present when transactions are been carried out and also we want our customers to inspect vehicles before purchase.

Many agents are fond of offering cars at very low rates to lure innocent customers into Cotonou then when they get there and the cars have been inspected,they suddenly start raising the prices and unfortunately since the customer wouldn't want to lose the time and money he/she has spent before coming into the parks especially for those who have come in from far places like Abuja,they have to add more money.There are even cases where the customer comes in and discover that the vehicle is accidented,that is why the prices are ridiculously low but what we do is lookout for clean deals<give you the asking prices and wait till when you as the customer comes in to inspect and bargain.

All we have doing is preventing you from spending so much on vehicles when we can actually give the asking prices and you as the customer comes into the market to bargain after inspection.

Our mode of operation goes thus-

Asking price-inspection-bargaining-payment of duty at the Nigerian border.

Also please note that their are no last prices in Cotonou since we are not the actual owners of these cars,it is your power of bargaining and conviction that can make you get cheaper prices at the parks,small details like blown fuses,crack windshields and mirrors etc can even bring you great bargains.
So when next you're talking with a representative of Jelad ventures or receiving calls from thjem,don't drop your calls in annoyance because of prices,all they have given you are asking prices,until you come to inspect the vehicles,our hands are tied.

Rav4's asking price is 1M which means you can still bargain for a lower price while custom duty is 150K.

After my bad experience in cotonou,when an agent me a price and I got into the market only for them to start qouting another price,I contacted GBENGA through this post and I was thrilled.

I actually went into the parks to negotiate myself with his assistance and got a bargain for my EX35.He told me to come and inspect the jeeps,by the time we went round the park,I finally got one within my price range even far below the asking price he gave me and my custom duty papers were already waiting at the border even before my jeep got there.All I stopped for was fuel and to submit photocopies of my duty papers to customs at their checkpoints.

Sir,there's nothing impossible in Cotonou as long as there's cash involved.

Let me give you an example of what Cotonou is all about.

We have almost 5-6 parks where cars are sold and each park is almost 100 hectares filled with vehicles of different models.Also in each park we have at least 150-200 car deales who are ready to discuss business with you.

This is how we operate,most white peoplle selling cars at the parks will always give you asking prices for cars then wait for yyou to bargain and there are instances where you as the customer might be in luck,you may be talking business with a dealer who needs cash urgently.

Like I also stated earlier,it's not always one gets a good clean car for good prices,there are instances where people come into Cotonou,search around for cars with issues e:gcracked mirrors.windsheilds or even cars with paint issues,an example is shown in the picture section,a gulf3 brought by a customer last week,it had neat interior and good engine but he bargained on the paint job and got his car cheap,it was later repainted outside the parks.

We will not want you as customers to get us wrong,perfect vehicles are sold in Cotonou but it is a case of cutting your coats according to you pockets or some criminal minded agents will take advantage.

What these agents do is lure you into Cotonou with cheap prices,make you change your hard earned money into CFA at the border then start increasing prices when you are in the parks,they know you won't want to waste your efforts and money because you'll certainly add money,if you decide not to buy a car,by the time you change you money back to Naira,you'll be short.

All what we do at Jelad ventures is to give you asking prices given to us by the direct importers and give you an opportunity to come,inspect and bargain.

You don't even even need to change your currencies at the border,all you need to change is your transport fare,when you have seen a vehicle,you drop the naira with them,collect your reciept and go back to the border to withdraw the balance.
The steps are explained below-
Let's assume the car is worth 500K
1.Inspection.
2. Paying of deposit.
3. Going back to the border to withdraw 500K.
4.Change back to CFA.
5.Pay at the park,collect final receipt+original 50K.

In this case,all you've spent is the purchase amount+transport fare and even if you decide not to buy a car,your 50K is still with you.

There are so many cars in Cotonou,even vehicle snot common to Nigerian roads apart from the popular brands that we know but you can only see this if and if you take that step of faith and you come into Cotonou.

It's only when you show that you're ready to buy,you can actually beat prices down but that doesn't mean a 2001 camry will be sold and cleared into Nigeria with just 750K.We have instances where people will tell us that "shebi it's cotonou",we don't encourage people to buy accidented vehicles neither do we encourage them to smuggle cars into Nigeria,we are custom lisenced agents and a sample of an ID issued to our company is also shown below,which gives us the lisence to operat at seme border.

So please,when next we call you to explain things to you,don't hang up on us.

We don't want you to come into Cotonou and see us as scammers who are out to steal your hard earned cash.Whatever you are going to do with your cash,always make sure you are involved.

When you ask for cars,we have to go round the parks and get you top of the line cars and their asking prices while you as the customer needs to come into the market to verify that the vehicles are okay then bargain for your choice.We wouldn't want to lure you into the parks just because we need your money,we want you to actually feel you've taken part in the whole process.

We also invite people who also want to visit Cotonou parks to see what goes on there,you're free to come and inspect the parks,then you go home to make a decision wether to buy or not.

When next you need a vehicle from Cotonou,you'll still get an asking price until you come to bargain.

For people looking for low end cars for 300-500K,we have decided that the best we can do is take them into the parks,then we look around for cars which fit into their budgets but the problem will be 120-150K will still need to be deducted from your 300-500K for custom duty.We all know how much all these cars are sold in places like Lagos,Abuja etc and all we are asking for is sincerity,if a car is sold in Lagos for 1.8M even with all their adjusted mileages etc,then getting it in its natural state for 1.4-1.5M is still a fair price and 1M-1.2M for cars with issues but when you as a customer now wants a 1.8M car for 800K,caution needs to be sought.

If you want to budget for a car,it's always good to budget towards the lagos prices,by the time you come into Cotonou to bargain,you'll still have enough change to register the car etc.

We sincerely hope with all of our explanations,we have been able to answer so many questions.

Sir,one thing you as a user of NL also forgot is the fact that you can only read posts and take action onm the information you need but you need to register before you can make comments.

If at anytime you doubt my integrity,you're free to use any other agent or come into Cotonou.Just last weekend,a nairalander bought a 2012 camry and never made comments on NL,he isn't even registered and while dropping the car in Owerri,I also met another Nairalander who contacted me through this post,he also has not registered but we have people like Mr Dahiru and co from Abuja who will always like us to drop their info once in while so you as prospective clients can discuss with them.

We have had cases where readers ask us to show proof of jobs we have done and what other way can we do it other than asking customers who are willing to register and make comments do as they wish or do you also expect them to post their house addresses etc.

Another issue we will be treating today is MILEAGE.

We've had so many people calling us for cars manufactured in 99 and they want they mileage to be between 80-90K.

What we want you to note is this,tokunbo cars are pre-owned cars,which means they were used by people living abroad before been transported to Africa.

Most mileage you see in lagos,where a 99 will have 75K mileage have been rolled back.It costs just 2,500naira to do all this in Ikeja.

When next you want to buy a vehicle,this is how you should calculate the mileage-

Let's assume the car was manufactured in 2000,between 2000 and 2013,we have 13 years.

The basic rule is you multiply 13yrs by 10-15km.

13*10(15)=130K.

You can use 15K to be on the safer when when buying SUVs because most people abroad use them for travelling.

The reason why we use 10,000 as a base is because we assume that is the most the previos owner can use the car.

For a car manuafctured in 2000,130-150K are still safe mileages,all you need to check are the engine(oil leaks etc),interior(torn seats) and body(rust).

Car dealers never roll back mileages,if at anytime a car coming in from cotonou has it's mileage rolled back, a Nigerian has done it.

So when next you're buying a car,always make sure you follow this rules and you'll never be scammed intop buying a car with rolled back mileage.

Dear Nairalanders,kindly take a look at the two pictures shown below.In these pictures,you'll notice that there are so many vechiles parked and there are also small offices shown.

This is just a tiny fraction of a park in Cotonou and we still have almost six parks.

A park covers almost 50-60 hectares of land and in each park,there are at least 200-300 car dealers in those small offices shown below.

That's is the reason why we always invite customers to come over and inspect cars before bargaining,it's a matter of moving to another dealer if negotiations fail with one.There is no way an agent can know about last prices of each dealer apart from giving you asking prices.

If you need 20 sets of camry 04,it's possible you get them in Cotonou,even vehicles which are not common can be bought there.As long as you have cash for deposit and you show you're seriously ready to buy the car,the owners will discuss business with you cos he knows when you leave his place,you have like 500-1000 car dealers and thousands of cars to choose from.

Let's imagine you're coming into lagos from lagos-ibadan expressway,you can't actually judge lagos from berger cos berger is just a small section of lagos,that assumption is also applicable to parks in Cotonou,they are so large that you've to make use of bikes and your security is guaranteed.

For those seeking low end cars(300-500),it is always better when you actually come to check the parks,there are numerous cars you'll not even belive they exist,all you have to do is pick one,check the condition and bargain with the direct owners.Your bargaining and deposit money works wonders in these parks.

Also on deposits,we need to clarify some issues.You're not paying deposit for any vehicle until you've bargained on it,the only reason why we've told you to come with it is just because it's a key to opening doors to a successful negotiation.

For those who have worked with us in the past,you are free to send deposits anytime you need a car.

As you know,it beats waiting for 2-3 days before getting your vehicle and the processes are still in these steps.

1. Sighting and inspection of car by agent.
2. Payment of deposit.
3. Declaration of vehicle in absentia to Nigerian customs and obtaining duty papers.
4. Payment of balance by customer and also payment of express if vehicle is to come out that same day
5. Movement to border and onward transportation to homes.

For those who don't understand,cars can be declared in absentia even before they get to the border so there is no need of waiting at the customs office for inspection,all you as the customer need to do is drop tagged photocopies at each checkpoint you meet on your way out of the border,so you can deposit for a car in Cotonou,obtain duty papers even before you pay the balance.Note your agent must be truthful with information he supplies to customs e;g VIN and engine capacity,any error and your car can be impounded.

Express is paid in cotonou if you want your car to come out of the parks that same day and it's 3,500 naira for all vehicles but it must be paid before 11am in the morning.By the time you pay in the morning,your vehicle comes out that same day and with your declaration in absentia to Nigerian customs,you can leave the border by 2pm the following day.

Sir,08 highlander is 3.8M in cotnou while duty is 400K(payable to Bigerian customs).

Technically,I'll advice direct negotiations with the direct importers because brands like toyota are expensive because people are seriously rushing them,so it's always better when a customer comes into the market to bargain on the 3.8M,thanks.

A- Yes,you can but we at Jelad ventures will not help with it.

Every vehicle has a VIN ,which you can send to sites like carfax to verify or check car history.

But the same thing we will tell you when you ask us about mechanics is the same thing we will tell you when you ask about car history,we cant help you.

many Nigerians, no matter how plain you're with them,will still believe you want to scam them with fake reports/doctored reports,that is why we suggest you bring your personal and trusted mechanic and also make sure you come into Cotonou with a mobile phone connected to internet,you can also obtain the VIN and check once you get back to the Nigerian border but everything that needs to be done in checking the checking the history will be done by you the customer,we can even help with internet facilities in Cotonou but you have to use your personal account to check the history.
