Some of those "holes" are at the expansion joints which shows that the concrete work was not properly cured or finished cos it's chipping off at the edge.

It should be arrested immediately

They got the same holes in footbridges in the USA too so kini big deal. As long as it isnt big enough forba baby to fall through, I see no problems.

If the slab was cracked right through the center, then I would have been worried but in this particular case, there's no real concern or damage to fear.

Well those are expansion joints gone awry and something needs to be done about them before it really expands.

Our Yansh: Yours sincerely observed some holes on a pedestrian bridge in Lagos, got some pictures and decided to share.

The pedestrian bridge in question is that at Iyanoworo (hope I got the spelling), just at the foot of third mainland bridge. The holes are not very big at the moment, however its said that "a stitch in time saves nine". So if you know somebody who knows somebody, please draw their attention to this potential hazard.

I rest my case.

Yours truly,

Hon. Our Yansh

Lagos residents cannot have safe pedestrian bridges. Something very BASIC.

Yet we have

* 30b for EXPANSION of Ikorodu-Ketu 13.5km road;
* 1.4km suspended bridge for 29b;
* LASU fees raised by 1,000% without commensurate increase in QUALITY

while raking in 20b monthly from the pockets, wallets, purses and handbags of the people in the form of IGR.

Propaganda can only take you so far, I guess!

Some people are just too myopic for my comprehension. Those holes were originally meant to be there, over time they corrode. And the fact then is you can not completely close them, cos they are for the purpose of area expansion. So, it's 80% beter than any repair work of pouring cement and water

Please tell me why should we, as Yorubas, limit our comparison to that of the federal government heads in recent times

When we have the glowing example and performance of Obafemi Awolowo who was premier of the Western region for only 6 years (1954-1960) and those of UPN governors who were in power for only 4 years (1979-1983)!

I am almost certain you do not benchmark yourself and your loved ones with the worst performers, rather to the best, isn't it
And we yorubas say that eshin iwaju ohun ni t'eyin nwo sare - race horses are inspired by the leading horse.

That is the essence of the omoluabi principle.

I live around there. Right at the foot of that bridge is the Federal Ministry of Works Office (see first picture)which is supposed to be responsible for at least checking if not maintaining the bridge. I wonder what job the guys in that place are doing if they cant see something right under their nose. I have personally brought this to their notice and they said they will work on it.

God help us
