Politics / Enugu APC Chairman Attacks Presidential Council Director •accuses Him Of Not Bei by 12Ebisco: 11:41pm On Jan 12, 2019
The Enugu State All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman, Dr. Ben Nwoye, says he has been vindicated in his assertion that the party’s Presidential Council Director, South, Senator Ken Nnamani, is “an ambivalent party man who is not proud of his party”.

Reacting to a statement by Sen Nnamani that he is not the campaign manager of all the party’s candidates for various offices in the state, Dr. Nwoye said it was wrong for an elder in a party to continue an undesirable dalliance with an opposition party in an election season.

Insisting that he never hurled insults at the former Senate President, the state chairman said that he never for once used derogatory language or spoke in a manner that would suggest insult.

“In any case, respect in a party is earned through responsible membership and not by fiat. If the party doesn’t feel the impact or imprint of such a high profile personality, would it be wrong for the party to say so? We assure Sen Nnamani of our respect at all times subject to his being an exemplary party man,” Nwoye said.

He argued that it is wrong for the revered former Senate President to dissociate himself from the responsibility of campaigning all the party’s candidates for various offices, noting that every committed party member is a compulsory campaign manager for candidates sponsored by the party.

Nwoye said the party’s campaign was going on well and has been getting stronger by the day with massive endorsement of our candidates at various levels by the many communities in Enugu State.

“The people of Enugu State are tired of the failure of the present government in the state and her representatives at Abuja to meet their expectations and are only waiting for the next couple of weeks to dump their votes for President Muhammad Buhari and all our APC candidates in the state,” Nwoye said.

Noting that he would not speak for the candidates of the party on why they did not send Christmas gifts to Sen Nnamani, the State Party Chairman wondered aloud: “When did candidates not sending hampers or cards at festivities become a high crime to warrant it being counted against them by their leaders? Anyway, I leave the candidates to answer why they did not send gifts to our leader.”

He said that by not addressing the issue of his dalliance with the opposition party adequately, Sen Nnamani has vindicated him on his allegation that he is not truly proud of his party.

“He has instead threatened to expose me. I don’t know what he has on me that he wants the public to know. I urge him to do so without delay. I’m all ears,” Nwoye concluded.

Politics / Obiano Counts Gains Of Administration’s Cordial Relationship With FG by 12Ebisco: 3:35pm On Jan 12, 2019
The Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, on Friday said that the good relationship between his government and the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government contributed immensely to the social harmony in the state.

Obiano attributed the level of cooperation among federal and state agencies in the state to his strategy to make Anambra State “the first choice investment destination in Nigeria.”

He maintained that investments go first and foremost to peaceful and stable places, adding that the harmony between the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration and that of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) government in the State has made it one of the most competitive states in the country

The governor stated this in a press statement made available to journalists in Awka by his Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr C Don Adinuba.

While insisting that he has no regrets relating well with President Buhari, Obiano said: “Not only do we have excellent relations with all state governments in Nigeria as well, we also enjoy warm relations with all political parties and their members, including candidates in the 2019 general elections.

“We don’t discriminate in the state, as can be testified by the presence in our administration of members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and APC and a number of non-Anambra indigenes.

“We are proud that Anambra is today the most peaceful, the most cohesive and the most inclusive state throughout the country.

“Frankly, I think other parts of the country should come to Anambra State and see not only how key federal agencies work together but also how national and sub national organisations cooperate fully with one another for the benefit of the people.”

The Governor further hailed the intelligence and security agencies in the state for providing impressive security in the state, especially during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

He said that the unprecedented investment flow of over $4billion in just four years in Anambra State is not fortuitous or a mere coincidence but a part of a well-planned, deliberate strategy which took into consideration environmental factors affecting investment decisions everywhere in the world.

Politics / Amina Zakara: EU Rejects Pdp's Plea To Influence INEC by 12Ebisco: 10:47am On Jan 12, 2019
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Friday, called on the European Union to prevail on members of the security agencies to remain apolitical during the conduct of the forthcoming general elections.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, made the call when the party received Mrs Hannah Roberts, Deputy Chief Observer, European Union Election Observation Mission Nigeria 2019, at the Wadata Plaza, on Friday in Abuja.

Ologbondiyan expressed concern over the way and manner members of the security agencies seemed to have abdicated their statutory responsibilities during conduct of recent elections in some states of the federation.

He said that the PDP believed that election should be free and fair.

“PDP as a party does not believe in violence, but would like presidency and INEC to conduct free and fair election, outside of this, we will not agree.”

Ologbondiyan also expressed concern over Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) sincerity to conduct credible elections, especially where Mrs Amina Zakari, INEC’s National Commissioner, would play key role in the said election.

The PDP national spokesperson noted that it was not only PDP that was averse to this arrangement.

He said that other political parties had also expressed reservations on the seeming partisan role of security agencies and that of Zakari in the forthcoming coming elections.

“Zakari should not be found anywhere near the process. We have made our position known to INEC because there will be a direct conflict of interest.”

Speaking earlier, Roberts said that they were in Nigeria ahead of the election to have discussions with electoral stakeholders.

She said that the mission would have discussion with range of stakeholders including the political parties and candidates , saying “we have to first meet variety of people.

“We have observers as we have in the past, spread around the country, so that they can see the reality on ground.

“The Chief observer will be becoming to observe the election; we have contact with key persons in the party; we hope you will make yourself available, so that we can know what is going on.

“As you know, we are invited into the country by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), we can’t control anything.

“Our mandate is to observe and make recommendations and issue statements, particularly after the election and finally make recommendations after the election, in other to make future election better,” Roberts said.

Politics / 2019 Election: Atiku And The Shackles Of Promises by 12Ebisco: 3:43am On Jan 12, 2019
Dateline: December of 2017, in a civil and painstaking reaction to a truculent letter supposedly written by a popular Nigerian comedian, Francis Agoda (aka “I Go Die”) Atiku declared unambiguously his sundry achievements while in office between 1999 and 2007.

Hear him: “My legacy as Vice President, I would say is the banking consolidation process, for which I gave political backing for. Many big people were putting a lot of political pressure to not change the status quo, but we knew that if that consolidation was not done, Nigeria could not grow. Because of that banking consolidation, Nigerian banks don’t fail anymore the way they used to.

“I oversaw the telecoms revolution, which is why young people like you, I Go Dye , now have a flourishing career. Under our tenure, we witnessed a large repatriation of Nigerians back to Nigeria, driven by the hope of the recovering economy. It is sad that many of those young people are heading back abroad now – this is to show you that leadership matters.

“In my home state of Adamawa for example, I’ve created over 50,000 direct jobs and 250,000 indirect ones. We are the largest private employers of labour in the state, only second to the state government. It’s not a lot, but it does help reduce unemployment.

“As VP, I assembled what is arguably the best Economic Team ever in Nigeria. It was made up of young, world class professionals, who came home to work. Some of those professionals are now political leaders, governors and world leaders in their own right.

“I have a proven record of bringing young, unknown professionals into service. Many of the professionals and ministers I brought in were in their 30s and early 40s. Some of those young leaders have become governors in their states. I went to the World Bank and met a bright lady, convinced her to come back home, and she became a star in our government. To show you we had effective leadership, the same lady could not replicate her exploits under a different government.” (Me: that must be Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala).

There are other testimonials of the 72-year-old politico’s accomplishments while in office… though a little lean on post-2007 material witnesses …. Amongst the positives fronted by his supporters include these: that Atiku led the National Council on Privatisation which supervised the sales of public enterprises which were considered as drains on the public treasury; and he successfully led the opposition to the rascally constitution amendment attempt to trigger a third term for the OBJ presidency. Of course, there are others who will use same accolades as metaphors for spoon-feeding greed, avarice and niggling over-ambition.

However, just as we did last week on the matter of his major opponent, President Muhammadu Buhari, the best window into the personality and purpose of Atiku’s candidature are the many promises he has thrown at us, to convince us that he is serious. Here is a shortlist of “The Atiku Plan”:

“Working towards achieving the lowest corporate income tax rate in Africa, in order to make Nigeria one of the most attractive destinations for foreign direct investment;

“Achieve a sustained increase in manufacturing output. By 2025, the manufacturing sector’s output shall be expanded from 9% to 30% of GDP.

“By 2025, Nigeria shall produce a minimum of 5 million per (sic) barrels per day… Increase the contribution of the downstream sector to GDP from 0.5% to at least 2% by 2025 by increasing the quantity of petroleum being refined, consumed and exported.

“To improve domestic supply of refined petroleum products government will incentivise those investors that are willing to cite (sic) modular refineries in the North to source crude from neighbouring Niger and Chad via pipeline to be constructed under Public Private Partnership.

“As we double our refining capacity to 2 million barrels of crude daily, we shall aspire to export 50% of that capacity to ECOWAS member states.

“Substantially increase the manufactured export funding window (the Export Stimulation Fund) currently, N700 billion to N1.5 trillion to enhance access to credit by manufacturers of finished, non-oil products.

“The privatisation of State-Owned Enterprises including all three government-owned refineries and the concession of Nigeria’s sea and airports to reputable, strategic, and technically sound buyers…

“The liberalisation of the downstream sector of the petroleum industry to, among others, allow market-determined prices for Petrol Motor Spirit (PMS) and eliminate subsides (sic) for its consumption.

“Set up a Special Purpose Fund for the utilisation of all monies saved from subsidy removal in building infrastructure in education, health and the empowerment of women and youth…

“Accelerating the privatisation and decentralisation of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

“Concessioning segments of the national grid to the private sector… “Creation of up to 3 million self-and wage-paying employment opportunities in the private sector annually, across all the economic sectors…

“Lift at least 50 million people out of extreme poverty by 2025. “An estimated 1m youth shall benefit annually from our apprenticeship scheme in the informal sector…

“Construction of up to 5,000 Km of modern railway lines…

“Undertake immediate operational improvements to significantly decongest Lagos ports…

“Intensify rural electrification projects to ensure electricity access to over 80 million Nigerians currently without access to grid electricity ….

“Prioritise investment in nameplate capacity and ensure that Nigeria starts to refine 50% of its current crude oil output of 2 million bpd by 2025

“To increase the nation’s refining capacity, we shall privatise all four-outstanding government-owned refineries to competent off-takers with mandates to produce agreed levels of refined output…

“Relocate the Niger Delta Ministry from Abuja to the region to enable it become closer to the stakeholders and beneficiaries of the initiatives…

“Local Governments shall remain as independent tier of government. Grassroots development requires the recognition of the Local Governments as independent structures of government not as appendages to the office of the State Government…

“Once power over minerals and mines is devolved to the concurrent list, states where deposits of mines and mineral resources are found will have control over those resources and only pay royalties to the center….”

Well, there you are: who will be your man of the election year 2019? With these random promises and prognoses, are you persuaded that Mr. Abubakar is ready for the business of equitable nation building? Or you are terrified by the prospect of a locust-like visitation? Are you perplexed by the distressing options of the deep-sea/bleak-mountain scenario foisted on us as a two-pronged presidential contest?

Whatever your state of mind, the elections shall come and go, and Nigeria will be run by one of these men for the next four years, to the chagrin of neutrals… so, do your posterity a complete make-over by choosing one or the other based on your understanding of the perceived capacity, competence, character and commitment of either candidate to bring home the dividends of their mile-long aspirations and vision.

Not sentiments of bigotry, clannishness, hatred, tribalism, unscrupulous partisanship, prebendalism, and such odious excuses for purposeless voting on February 16, 2019.

Politics / Amnesty Programme Has Been Transformed, Says APC; Commends Dokubo by 12Ebisco: 8:59am On Jan 11, 2019
Appraising the achievements of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration ahead of the 2019 election, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) says the Presidential Amnesty Programme under the leadership of Prof. Charles Dokubo has been positively transformed.

The party noted that the active participation of the Niger Delta people in matters of national concern resulted from Dokubo’s untiring efforts at deepening the prevailing peace and stability in the Niger Delta region.

In a letter of commendation signed by its National Secretary, Mai Mala Buni, the APC applauded Dokubo’s efforts at ensuring development in the oil-rich region. It said the positive transformation of the Presidential Amnesty Programme was in line with the Change Agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

The letter reads: “The party commends your efforts to bring development to the all-important Niger Delta region and ensure that the region actively participates in matters of national concern, irrespective of political affiliations.

“Under your watch, the Presidential Amnesty Programme has been positively transformed and has ensured stability in the Niger Delta region. This is in line with the Change Agenda of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration as enshrined in our manifesto.

“While there remains more work to be done in bringing about total and lasting peace to the region, we urge you not to relent, but continue to explore all means and avenues to ensure the success of the Programme and its developmental initiatives for the region.”

The party assured Dokubo of its cooperation, commitment and support towards sustaining peace in the Niger Delta.

Politics / 2019: Governor Amosun Uncovers Why APC Pioneers Are After Him by 12Ebisco: 9:12pm On Jan 10, 2019
The Governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun, on Thursday claimed he is being castigated by some leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), because of his achievements and commitment to the development of Abeokuta, the state capital, ahead of other regions in the State.

Amosun stated this during the kick-off of his ward-to-ward senatorial campaign, in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun Central Senatorial District.

According to him, no right-thinking Governor would abandon the capital to remain the glorified condition it was, before he became Governor in 2011.

Amosun said: “Why am I being castigated? Abeokuta was made the State capital over 40 years ago and the only offence I have committed is to have developed Abeokuta but I tell you, no sane governor will neglect Abeokuta, else that governor will see the result.

“I have never neglected other areas. We have one of the best flyovers and roads of our administration in Sagamu, there are two flyovers in Ijebu Ode with good roads and the same things are done in Ijebu Igbo and Yewa.

“What we’ve done is that when we do three things in Abeokuta, we do two or one in other places and we are running round day and night to get this done.

“I am not the first governor in Ogun State but I appreciate what they’ve done but if anybody castigates me? No governor worth his salt will abandon Abeokuta.”

He solicited the votes of people in all the wards, appealing to them not to trade their Permanent Voter Cards(PVCs) for monetary gains.

“Don’t be deceived into trading your PVC, they will come with promise of loans and grants requesting for your PVC number, tell them they are thrives and criminals, ask them where they have been since all these years that they are now coming on the eve of the election,” he added.

Business / SHOCKER: World’s Richest Man And Wife Set For Divorce by 12Ebisco: 9:24am On Jan 10, 2019
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his wife of 25 years, MacKenzie are set to divorce, according to Bezos himself.

Bezos, who is now the world’s richest man and his company, the most valuable in the world, made the announcement today, prompting speculations theirs could be the most expensive divorce settlement in history.

The couple met while working together at a New York hedge fund.

Bezos has a stake in Amazon estimated to be worth $160bn (£125bn), making him the world’s richest man.

The couple married in 1993, one year before Mr Bezos started Amazon from his garage in Seattle.

As well as his shareholding in Amazon, Bezos owns a string of other investments as well as homes in Seattle, Washington DC, Beverly Hills, New York and a Gulfstream jet.

“After a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends,” Mr Bezos wrote in a post on Twitter.

MacKenzie Bezos is a novelist and founder of anti-bullying organisation Bystander Revolution in 2014.

The former couple met in the early 1990s when they both worked for investment management firm D.E. Shaw. They were engaged after three months of working together and married three months after that.

Mrs Bezos was one of Amazon’s earliest employees and became an accountant for the business when it started as an online book retailer. They have four children together.

The news of the divorce comes two days after Amazon became the world’s most valuable company, overtaking Microsoft’s valuation.

Amazon has a market cap of $811.2bn, with analysts speculating that it could reach the trillion-dollar milestone, anytime soon. (NAN)

Politics / Politics: Women Need Legal Framework To Fully Participate — INEC by 12Ebisco: 9:05am On Jan 09, 2019
The Deputy Director INEC, Gender Division, Ms Blessing Obidiegwu, has reiterated the need for a legal framework to encourage participation of more women in politics.

Obidegwu said this during a two-day training on women to women voters education in Abuja, organised by the National Women Trust Fund (NWTF), INEC and other partners.

“The National Gender Policy is just a policy, because there is no legal backing, it is either people abide by it or not.

Obidegwu observed that sensitisation and mobilisation on voters’ education in the past by INEC and other stakeholders had increased women participation in politics.

She, however, said more still needed to be done to increase women participation in politics and advised women to vote their preferred candidates and not be bought by politicians.

“Although, funding was one of barriers to women participation in politics, I advise that the issue of money in politics should be discouraged.

The Chief Executive Officer of NWTF, Ms Mufuliat Fijabi, said the training would enable the trainees to reach out to more than 500 women direct or indirectly on voter education and peaceful elections.

“Women should also advise their wards not to be used as thugs by politicians.

“The trainees will be given necessary skills that will ensure their effective conduct on ‘pair to pair’, `women to women’ voter education exercise.

“The women were selected from various parts of the Federal Capital Territory in order to reach women at the grass roots,” she said.

Fijabi said real democracy would be achieved if women were educated on voting and electoral processes. (NAN)

Business / Why World Bank President Resigns Will Shock You by 12Ebisco: 1:25pm On Jan 08, 2019
Trump himself has largely ignored the World Bank, surprising some who expected his administration to have harsher words for the lender.

CNN

World Bank President Jim Yong Kim abruptly resigned nearly three years ahead of schedule on Monday, setting up an opening for President Donald Trump to fill — and a potential clash with other countries over the long-standing practice of the US making the appointment.

Trump has repeatedly voiced disdain for multilateral institutions and questioned US foreign aid commitments, making it likely his authority to name a new president will be challenged by emerging economies that have in recent decades grown increasingly opposed to US dominance over the global development bank.

The White House did not immediately say on Monday whether Trump plans to name a new president or provide a list of potential candidates.

The Trump administration has enjoyed a close working relationship with Kim. Ivanka Trump, the President’s daughter and senior adviser, developed a woman’s entrepreneurship initiative in partnership with the World Bank in 2017 with the goal of providing more than $1 billion in financing for small-business owners.

Trump’s daughter took the idea in April 2017 to Kim, who agreed to fast track the initiative. Her involvement in the international fund drew scrutiny from watchdog groups, which said the setup could open up potential conflicts of interest.

Ivanka Trump also drew intense scrutiny after briefly taking her father’s seat at the table during the G20 meeting that July, sitting with world leaders to help launch the loan program.

Kim defended the younger Trump’s effort at the summit. “This is not a cute little project,” he said. “This is going to be a major driver of economic growth in the future … and it’s going to drive gender equality at the same time.”

Trump himself has largely ignored the World Bank, surprising some who expected his administration to have harsher words for the lender. He has also praised the outgoing president, calling him a “friend” and a “great guy,” and suggesting he himself might have selected him. “I might have even appointed him, but I didn’t,” Trump said during the 2017 G20 meetings in Germany.

Kim, who had served in the role since 2012, shifted the focus of the bank to attracting private-sector investment in development projects.

He announced Monday he would leave his post well ahead of his term’s expiration at the end of 2021. If Kim had served out his tenure, Trump would have had an opportunity to name a successor only during a potential second term in the White House.

A statement from the bank said the outgoing president would join a firm focusing on infrastructure investments in the developing world and return to the board of a health organization he founded three decades ago.

“It has been a great honor to serve as President of this remarkable institution, full of passionate individuals dedicated to the mission of ending extreme poverty in our lifetime,” Kim wrote in a statement. “The work of the World Bank Group is more important now than ever as the aspirations of the poor rise all over the world, and problems like climate change, pandemics, famine and refugees continue to grow in both their scale and complexity.”

Since its founding at the end of World War II, the World Bank has been led by Americans, all of whom were appointed by the US president. The United States is the bank’s largest shareholder.

The practice has drawn criticism from some other nations, who have insisted the bank’s focus on providing loans to developing nations requires participation by leaders from other regions.

The leader of the World Bank’s sister organization, the International Monetary Fund, has always been European.

President Barack Obama broke tradition in 2012 by choosing Kim, who was serving as president of Dartmouth College at the time. Past bank leaders had emerged from the financial world, but Kim — who was born in Seoul, South Korea, but raised in Iowa — is an anthropologist and physician by training. Obama said at the time that it was “time for a development professional to lead the world’s largest development agency.”

He also considered candidates like then-Sen. John Kerry, who went on to become his second-term secretary of state; and then-US Ambassador to the UN Susan Rice, who would become his national security adviser.

Kim’s nomination faced a challenge from Nigeria’s finance minister, the first time since the bank’s founding the US candidate faced serious opposition.

Ultimately Kim garnered enough support from the bank’s executive directors to become president, but the process of securing votes — which people close to the bank describe as “arm-twisting” — laid the groundwork for future challenges to the US control of the bank’s presidency.

Foreign Affairs / BREAKING: 2 Coup Leaders Killed In Gabon, Ring Leader Captured by 12Ebisco: 8:08am On Jan 08, 2019
The chief military rebel who led a failed coup in Gabon on Monday has been arrested and two of his commandos killed after they stormed a public radio station, the presidency said.

A group of soldiers attempted to take power and called in a radio appeal for a popular uprising against ailing President Ali Bongo, who is abroad recovering from a stroke.

Security forces stormed the radio station in the capital Libreville to take it back, killing two rebel troops, arresting their leader and freeing journalists who had been forced to help rebels make their appeal.

“The situation is under control,” the presidency statement said.

Six rebel troops earlier Monday burst into the state radio broadcasting station, “neutralising” gendarmes in front of the building before making their broadcast, it said.

Officials earlier said five rebels had entered the building and four had been arrested.

The message was read by a person who identified himself as Lieutenant Ondo Obiang Kelly, the deputy commander of the Republican Guard and head of a previously unknown group, the Patriotic Youth Movement of the Gabonese Defence and Security Forces.

He said a “national restoration council” would be formed in the former French colony “to guarantee a democratic transition for the Gabonese people”.

Bongo is staying at a private residence in the Moroccan capital Rabat after suffering a stroke. He made a televised speech on New Year’s Eve but has not been in the West African country since October. (NAN)

Politics / Group Faults Amnesty International’s Report On Number Of Deaths In Benue by 12Ebisco: 7:24am On Jan 07, 2019
A group of campaigners against open grazing of cattle in Benue State called the Movement Against Fulani Occupation (MAFO), has faulted a report by Amnesty International’s where it allegedly put the number of deaths in Benue State between 2016 and 2018, at 726.

According to the group, almost 10,000 farmers have been killed within the time frame, as against the figure mentioned by Amnesty International.

The legal adviser for the group, Mr Terence Vembe, at a press briefing on Saturday noted that over 3,900 persons were killed in Agatu alone, while scores of persons had been killed in Gwer West, Makurdi, Guma, Logo, Buruku and Kwande Local Government Areas.

“In view of the above and many other observations, MAFO wishes to state as follows: the casualty figure of 726 for Benue State, has been strategically downplayed in order to water down the impact of the crisis of Benue communities and present a different picture to the rest of the world, especially coming from a globally known organization like Amnesty International,” he said.

Vembe, therefore, called on Amnesty International to re-evaluate its report by conducting fresh investigations in the affected Benue communities.

The group also faulted comments credited to Senator George Akume, alleging that the Benue State government is responsible for the killings.

Politics / I Was Not Among The Lawmakers Who Booed President Buhari – Dino Melaye Speaks Fr by 12Ebisco: 5:06pm On Jan 06, 2019
Senator Dino Melaye has said that he was not among the lawmakers who booed President Buhari.

According to Punch, the Senator made this known in a statement signed by his media aide, Gideon Ayodele.

On December 19, 2018, Buhari, while presenting the 2019 budget at the National Assembly, was booed by some lawmakers.

Speaking on the incident, Melaye said that he was absent from the chambers when it happened.

His media aide, also said “The attention of Senator Dino Melaye has been drawn to a malicious reference to his person on the social media as one of the lawmakers who booed President Muhammadu Buhari during his 2019 Budget presentation before a joint session of the National Assembly on Wednesday, December 19, 2018.

“Before now, he (Melaye) had refused to refute the mischievous social media fabrication for what it is — a cheap lie — Senator Dino Melaye was not in the National Assembly that day.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Distinguished Senator Dino Melaye was absent at the televised 2019 budget presentation session and hereby challenges anyone with contrary proof to come forward with such.”

Dino Melaye, who is currently receiving treatment at a police hospital in Abuja, slumped after surrendering to security operatives who laid siege outside his residence.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, on Saturday warned against violence during the forth coming elections.

Ogunwusi warned that there was no gain in shedding of blood, adding that a dead person can’t be useful to the society.

The traditional ruler issued the warning at the Grand-finale of New Year Prayer Service organised by Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Ile- Ife Chapter, at Afenworo Park, Enuwa Square, Ile-Ife, Osun State.

According to Ooni, “There is no gain in shedding of blood, trouble and violence. Anyone who dies cannot come back to be useful to the society again.”

The monarch urged stakeholders to maintain peace and orderliness in the forthcoming elections, stressing that ” it is only God that enthrones and put his choice on the throne.”

Oba Ogunwusi further called on politicians to give peace a chance and allow peaceful coexistence.

Politics / Remove Amina Zakari From INEC – PDP by 12Ebisco: 12:04pm On Jan 05, 2019
Current update as Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organization (PPCO) yesterday urged the National Assembly to immediately commence the process of the removal of Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC’s) Commissioner and President Muhammadu Buhari’s niece, Mrs. Amina Zakari.

While addressing newsmen in Abuja at a press conference, the Director, Media and Publicity of PPCO, Kola Ologbondiyan charged the lawmakers to save the nation from imminent political crisis, adding that President Buhari, having been rejected by Nigerians, is now using her (Zakari) as virus to compromise the independence of the commission, manipulate the electoral process and rig the presidential election for him.

Findings by newsmen revealed that Section 157(1) of the Constitution explained how a commissioner like Amina Zakari could be removed from office by the lawmakers.

According to the Constitution, Section 157 (1) said, “Subject to the provisions of subsection (3) of this section, a person holding any of the offices to which this section applies may only be removed from that office by the President acting on an address supported by two-thirds majority of the Senate praying that he be so removed for inability to discharge the functions of the office (whether arising from infirmity of mind or body or any other cause) or for misconduct.

“(2) This section applies to the offices of the Chairman and members of the Code of Conduct Bureau, the Federal Civil Service Commission, the Independent National Electoral Commission, the National Judicial Council, the Federal Judicial Service Commission, the Federal Character Commission, the Nigeria Police Council, the National Population Commission, the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission and the Police Service Commission.”

Ologbondiyan said: “The Buhari Presidency has been using Amina Zakari to bear pressure on INEC even to the extent of brazenly foisting her as the collation officer for the Presidential election to enable President Buhari announce himself as winner.

“The PPCO holds that a credible electoral commission must be completely impartial, transparent, totally independent and immune from external control by interested entities. These are qualities INEC can no longer lay claim to as long as Amina Zakari remains a member of the commission.

“By foisting Mrs. Amina Zakari to lead the final process of the election, President Buhari is seeking a way to annex INEC, practically, take over the collation of results, and announce himself the winner.

“This is a clear invitation to anarchy and a huge political crisis capable of derailing our democracy because Nigerians, across the board, are already in vehement rejection of this self-succession plot and are now, more than ever before, ready to use every necessary means available and accessible to them in a democracy to protect our democratic process.”

The party spokesman said that as long as Amina Zakari remains in INEC, the commission cannot be trusted.

The party further revealed that “following public outcry against her nomination, Amina Zakari’s agents, last night, surreptitiously attempted to compromise the media by sending secret messages to emails of editors with the view to water down and sway the direction of information on her provocative appointment to lead the collation of Presidential election results.

“Also, we have been informed of how Mrs. Zakari led other top INEC officials to a secret meeting with some top officials of the Buhari Campaign Organization (BCO) in Abuja on ways to introduce the controversial Incidence Form under a new name and use such to manipulate the collation of results.

“We therefore urge Nigerians and lovers of democracy all over the world to unite in condemning this scheme by the Buhari Presidency to use Amina Zakari to enmesh our election into unnecessary controversy and trigger a political crisis in our country, just because they have realized that President Buhari cannot win the Presidential election.

“President Buhari and Amina Zakari should know that Nigerians have made up their minds in rallying behind our Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, as their next president and no amount of machination, shenanigans and scheming will stop this resolve.”

Ologbondiyan insisted that President Buhari will not be able manipulate the electoral processes and foist himself back to power against the wishes of Nigerians, adding, “Buhari Presidency will never have its way in rigging this election through a self-succession strategy. We insist that, in this election, votes must count and only the will of Nigerians, as expressed at the ballot will prevail.”

More details later…

Politics / APC Vs PDP: OPC States Position On Sanwo-olu, Agbaje, Buhari, Atiku by 12Ebisco: 4:05am On Jan 05, 2019
Aare Gani Adams-led members of the Oodua Peoples Congress,( OPC), has dissociated itself from the recent move by the late Fredrick Fasheun-led members of the group, to endorse the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Mr. Babajide Sanw-olu.

Sanwo-Olu will slug it out with Jimi Agbaje of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

Speaking on Friday, Lagos state coordinator of OPC, Alhaji Mutair Adesina, said the group was yet to decide on the candidates the group will support in the forthcoming elections, both in the state or at the national level.

Adesina also declared that OPC was yet to announce its position in the contest between President Muhammadu Buhari and Atiku Abubakar.

He said: “In Yoruba land, we give respect to the dead and memories of our great leaders. It is unfortunate that the group has failed to respect the memory of the late Faseun, that died just a few weeks ago, and that is too bad”.

“Our leader has the final say, and we are yet to hear from him. The APC candidate is yet to meet with our leader, or even pay him a courtesy call.

“So as a group that is poised to promote the cultural identity of the Yoruba race, our core values are strengthen by our beliefs in restructuring, as it has been promoted always by our amiable leader, and the Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Abiodun Ige Adams.

“We have our template and structure firmly rooted both in Nigeria and outside the shores of this country. Members of our group are scattered across the country, and in 84 countries across the world.

“Our core values and ideologies are enshrined in all our programmes. So, before we make up our minds we must consider so many things, and key among them is our position on restructuring.

“Therefore, we will definitely bare our minds very soon and at the same time throw our weight behind any candidate that is ready to restructure Nigeria”

Politics / Amina Zakari: Buhari Finally Reacts To INEC Official’s New Appointment by 12Ebisco: 7:38pm On Jan 04, 2019
President Muhammadu Buhari has lambasted the opposition over their reaction to the appointment of Mrs Amina Zakari by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as its Head of Collation Centre for the 2019 elections.

His reaction was contained in a statement by his spokesman, Garba Shehu, on Friday.

He said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has continued their baseless accusations regarding Zakari, accusing her of partiality and casting doubts about her integrity as an electoral commissioner.

Shehu said: “In their desperation, they forget that it was the PDP government that appointed her in the first place and they keep lying, as they have been caught doing on so many issues, by imputing a blood relationship between her and President Muhammadu Buhari.

“President Buhari and Commissioner Amina Zakari don’t share a family relationship. An inter-marriage occurred in their extended families, so the imputation of blood relationship between the President and the electoral commissioner is a simple lie.

“What is even more curious about all the fuss coming from the PDP is that they, as a ruling party picked Mrs Zakari, judging her by her own merit and made her an electoral commissioner.

“She served so well with distinction as can be verified from the records that President Buhari approved the recommendation that she be reappointed, as he did other PDP nominees for second-term of four years.

“PDP, therefore, has no moral right to keep harassing this hardworking mother unless they have a hidden agenda.

“By this statement, the PDP is guilty of scoring an own goal and two, of harassing an innocent citizen on the basis of a lie, pure and simple.”

Politics / How Atiku Can Win 2019 Presidential Election — Witches by 12Ebisco: 4:10pm On Jan 04, 2019
The Association of White Witches in Nigeria (AWWN) has warned the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 16 election, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, not to repeat the mistake of former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015, if he wants to win the election.

Jonathan, the witches said, refused to listen to “wise” counsel which eventually led to his losing the presidential election of that year to Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The group cautioned Atiku to hearken to instructions given to him if he actually wanted to win the election and redeem Nigerians from hunger and poverty orchestrated by the bad economic policies of the present administration.

Speaking in an exclusive telephone interview on Thursday, the spokesman of the association, Dr. Okhue Iboi, said for Atiku to win the election, he has to undertake the assignment of visiting the church, mosque, and the witches’ association for special prayers.

“These three spiritual places are keys in this year’s election. He has to go to these three places for special prayers to be offered on him. If he fails to do so and chooses to follow the way of Jonathan, then he should forget the presidency.

“In 2015, we told President Jonathan the same thing, but he refused and we all know what happened after that. Millions of Nigerians want Atiku to be the next president, but he has this assignment to undertake so that God can clear his way to win the election,” he said.

Dr. Iboi disclosed that in their meeting which was held in Calabar, the Cross River State capital in the first week of December, it was clear that the gods favoured Atiku to be the next president of Nigeria but on condition that he sought spiritual interventions.

“Atiku will win Buhari with a landslide if he obeys this simple instruction,” he said.

He also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to resist any pressure and refrain from any clandestine plan to manipulate the results of the election to favour a particular candidate.

He added that whether the Federal Government deployed troops in the guise of ‘Operation Python Dance’ in all parts of the country, it would not alter anything if Atiku obeyed the instruction given to him.

“Elections will be peaceful. But if INEC manipulates the result, there will be serious chaos in the country. INEC must be truly independent. INEC must be neutral so that Nigeria does not experience post-election crisis,” Dr. Iboi said.

The witches’ spokesman revealed that the PDP would lose Ogun State if the party did not give the governorship ticket to Senator Buruji Kashamu.

According to him, “Kashamu is destined to win Ogun State for PDP, but if the party denies him the ticket, they will lose. Kashamu has the grace of followership.”

Iboi, who predicted MKO Abiola’s stalemate of 1993, Gen. Sani Abacha’s death, and several other national issues accurately, further disclosed that the killings by the Boko Haram terrorist group in the North-East would continue except the politicians who sponsor the insurgents were apprehended and subsequently prosecuted.

“President Buhari knows those who are sponsoring Boko Haram.”

Foreign Affairs / Release Accurate Results Of The Elections -U.S. Warns DR Congo by 12Ebisco: 9:42am On Jan 04, 2019
President Donald Trump of United States

The United States has called on the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s (DRC) Electoral Commission to release accurate results of Sunday’s general election in the country, warning against manipulation.

The U.S. Department of State, in a statement by its Deputy Spokesperson, Robert Palladino, said the Dec. 30 election was one of the most important elections in DRC history, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

The U.S. also regretted the internet shutdown and the clampdown on the media saying, the internet must be restored and the media allowed to report freely.

“The United States stands by the millions of Congolese voters who went to the poll across the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) on Dec. 30 to participate in presidential, legislative, and provincial assembly election.

“Since independence in 1960, the DRC has never experienced a peaceful, democratic transfer of power,” the department said.

The United States was deeply concerned by the DRC’s National Independent Electoral Commission (CENI) decision to deny accreditation to several international election observers and media representatives, it said.

“We also noted that confusion on election day over the location of polling stations, the posting of voter lists, the late delivery of some election materials, and CENI’s unfortunate decision to cancel elections in Beni and Butembo in eastern DRC disenfranchised voters.

“Nevertheless, in spite of these challenges, millions of Congolese citizens turned out peacefully across DRC on election day to cast their ballots and make their voices heard. ‎

“CENI must now ensure that these voices and votes are respected,” the statement said.

As the Congolese people, the region, and the world await patiently for the results of these elections, the internet must be restored and the media allowed to report freely, it stressed.

The U.S. strongly urged CENI to ensure that votes are counted in a transparent and open manner, with observers present, and that the results reported by CENI are accurate and correspond to results announced at each of DRC’s 75,000 polling stations.

It expressed support to the African Union Election Observation Mission to DRC’s expectation, expressed on Jan. 2, 2019, that the announced results align with votes cast by the Congolese people.

As official results are tabulated and reported, the U.S. said it continued to urge DRC government officials, leaders of the DRC security forces, opposition party leaders, civil society representatives, and stakeholders from all sides to respect the law and reject violence.

“There are moments in every nation’s history when individuals and political leaders step forward and do the right thing. This is one of those moments for the DRC.

“Those who enable a peaceful, democratic transfer of power out of respect for DRC’s constitution and the results of this election will be hailed, while those responsible for undermining democratic institutions and processes, threatening the peace, security, or stability of DRC or benefiting from corruption ‎will be held accountable.

“Those who undermine the democratic process, threaten the peace, security or stability of the DRC, or benefit from corruption may find themselves not welcome in the United States and cut off from the U.S. financial system.

“On December 30, millions of Congolese went peacefully to the polls.

“Now is the time for CENI to affirm that these votes were not cast in vain by ensuring the accurate reporting of election results,” the U.S. said.

Politics / Political Parties React As INEC Names Buhari’s Niece Official To Announce Presid by 12Ebisco: 11:18pm On Jan 03, 2019
The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has declared the appointment of President Muhammadu Buhari’s niece, Amina Zakari as the Chairperson of Presidential Election Collation Centre as a plot by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to
rig the 2019 election in favour of the nation’s leader.

The appointment came just after INEC denied that it was being pressured by the Presidency and the ruling APC to rig the election.

But CUPP said the denial had now fallen flat on its face and exposed the Electoral Commission as a part and parcel of the rigging machinery of the APC.

CUPP spokesman, Imo Ugochinyere, said: “The desperation of the President must be reined in now before it is too late. We categorically reject this appointment and will consider very drastic measures including pulling out of the peace accord which does not repose a commensurate responsibility of the President to allow INEC conduct a credible, free and fair election.

“Her appointment is a direct invitation to anarchy and must be reversed without delay. We have it on good authority that the INEC Chairman is being blackmailed by the Presidency with investigation reports of the EFCC which discovered massive corruption when the Chairman held sway as Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund.

“This system of cultivating corruption is the main stay of the Buhari led government. In Osun State, the same system was deployed with a governorship candidate who traded his support
for freedom from prosecution. It is clear that the Presidency has successfully put a leash on the neck of the INEC Chairman and he has by this appointment relinquished a most critical element of his job as the Presidential election returning officer to an interested party.

“With a compromised Police Inspector General of Police whose continued illegal stay is a threat to national security and a compromised Chairmanof INEC, CUPP hereby calls on coalition member candidates for Senate and
House of Representatives to gird their loins as they are going to be the first line of defence on the Election Day to stop these election riggers.”

In a statement signed by the Director, Media and Publicity of YY Sani Presidential Campaign Organisation, Pam Ibrahim, the former president further enjoined Nigerians to engage in what he called “participatory democracy” in order to vote in credible and patriotic leaders.

Crime / Islamic Cleric Caught On Camera Raping 5-year-old Through Anus In Lagos by 12Ebisco: 7:42am On Jan 03, 2019
The police in Lagos State have arrested a 43-year-old man for allegedly defiling a five-year-old girl, whom he was supposed be teaching Islamic studies.

According to a statement by the state Command Spokesperson, CSP Chike Oti, the cleric was arrested after he was recorded performing the act.
“On Friday, Dec. 28, 2018, a good Nigerian visited the headquarters of the Lagos State Police Command with a video evidence of an Islamic cleric having anal sex with a five-year-old girl that he was supposed to be teaching Islamic studies.
“The complainant sought audience with the state Commissioner of Police, CP Edgal Imohimi.

“The CP, after watching the heart-rending video, directed the command’s undercover operatives attached to the State Intelligence Bureau to immediately arrest the culprit and hand him over to the Gender Section for detailed investigation.
“The operatives went in search of the Alfa and arrested him near a mosque in the Igando area of the state.

“He was taken from there to the Gender Unit, where the Officer-in-Charge, ASP (Mrs) Abimbola Williams, confronted him with the video of him defiling the child by penetrating her anus and private parts.
“On seeing himself captured like an actor in a movie, the suspect broke down and owned up to the crime. The case will be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.” the statement stated.
The CP further commended the courageous act of the good Nigerian, and warned parents and guardians to keep constant watch over their children and wards.

“Nobody should be trusted. Be friends with your children and let them be free to share things with you.
“Do not cover up any crime, no matter who is involved. Raise the alarm on child molesters in your neighbourhood so they can face the law and others nursing such thoughts can be deterred,” the CP said.

Politics / Why We’re Moving For Parliamentary System Of Government – Reps Member, Chinda by 12Ebisco: 6:34am On Jan 02, 2019
A member of House of Representatives, Mr Kinsley Chinda (PDP-Rivers), has said that adopting parliamentary system of government in Nigeria will help reduce corruption and address frictions among different arms of government in Nigeria.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, Chinda, who led 71 other lawmakers to sponsor a bill to revert the county to parliamentary system at the House in December 2018, disclosed this while speaking in Abuja on Tuesday.

He said the idea was out of the need to curb frictions and ensure synergy among arms of government.

According to him, “if you ask some legislators of some government policies, it is difficult for them to clearly understand because the interface between the executive and the legislature is not as it should be.

“The parliamentary system will ensure that the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary are on the same page.

“The system will iron out all these things; that is why we have thrown it up for Nigerians to look at, discuss and see that it will help us in proffering solutions to some of the problems of our country.’’

Chinda added that there was need to try something else away from the presidential system as the cost of governance was too high for the country.

The lawmaker said in the process of introducing the bill, the sponsors considered the idea of a unicameral legislature as against bicameral currently being practised.

He said he was in support of a unicameral legislature as it would further cut cost. Chinda said the sponsors of the bill were not condemning the presidential system neither were they praising parliamentary system but were looking for a system that best suits Nigeria, given its dynamic nature.

He recalled that Nigeria practised parliamentary system in the past where power was devolved, leading to healthy competition among regions and resulting in great progress.

“What we have proposed in that bill is that the exclusive list should be pruned down and so issues of devolution of power is taken care of and I can assure you that you will see healthy competition and this country will grow for all of us.

“I am from Rivers, why can I not go to Sokoto to do my business there when I see myself as a Nigerian.

“It is because of the constitution and the laws that we have; you fill forms and you have to indicate your tribe.

“We should begin to remove that mentality and begin to think of Nigeria first,” he said.

He said the parliamentary system would help to check the issues of corruption as ministers would be part of the parliament and they would be accountable.

The lawmaker said the refusal of President Muhammdu Buhari to assent to the amended Electoral Amendment bill for the fourth time was another reason Nigeria should revert to the parliamentary system.

He explained that the amendment was made to move the electoral process forward but it was left by the president for almost a year before finally declining assent on the ground that it was too close to election.

“I am of the view that we should override the president and I have also spoken to some members about it,” he said.

Politics / What Politicians, INEC, Military Should Do In 2019 Election – CAN by 12Ebisco: 9:49am On Jan 01, 2019
The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has issued a message to politicians and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2019 general election.

Reverend Samson Ayokunle, President of CAN, asked politicians in the country to quit desperation for power, avoid vote buying come 2019.

Ayokunle gave the charge in the New Year message signed by Pastor Adebayo Oladeji, the Special Assistant (Media and Communications) to CAN president.

Stressing that 2019 is crucial in Nigeria’s history, Ayokunle beckoned on Nigerians to be peace loving and refuse to be involved in electoral manipulations.

CAN president also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to be neutral before and after the elections, prevent harassment of voters.

Ayokunle advised the military not to be dragged into the electoral process in 2019 but instead, they should be allowed to face their primary responsibilitie

The message read; “On behalf of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), I bring New Year greetings to all Nigerians at home and abroad in the name of Jesus Christ Our Lord and Saviour.

“I pray that 2019 will be a year of peace, prosperity, rest of mind and a year when the Almighty God will miraculously intervene in the affairs of our nation. Our dry bones shall rise again in Jesus’ name.

“I urge politicians not to be too desperate to be voted into power and get themselves involved in using thugs to cause chaos or commit electoral fraud. Vote buying is evil, all stakeholders should shun it.

“All the law enforcement agencies, especially the Police and the Nigerian Civil Defence Corps deployed to maintain peace should not compromise their neutrality by working for desperate politicians.

“The military should not be dragged into the electoral process but instead, they should be allowed to face their primary responsibilities.

“Let us remember that without a free, fair and credible election which will bring credible leadership, the dry bones of Nigeria will not rise again.

“It is my prayers that the year would be full of the goodness of God for us all in the name of Jesus. Wishing you a prosperous New Year!”

Crime / Police Kill Robbery Suspect In Gun Battle As Two Die In Delta Cult War by 12Ebisco: 2:28pm On Dec 31, 2018
The police anti-robbery/kidnapping team at the Ogwashi Uku police division in Delta State in the early hours of Monday killed a robbery suspect identified as Nonso Akubueze during a gun battle with his gang members in the community.

The police commissioner in the state, Anthony Agbizi, who confirmed this to newsmen in Asaba, disclosed that the police team acted on intelligence gathering as they moved into the scene where the armed gang were robbing residents including motorists somewhere around the village square leading to Ubulu Uku community.

CP Anthony Agbizi said two of the gang members during the exchange of gun fire with the police, escaped with bullets wounds, adding that the police will do everything possible to bring them to book.

The divisional police officer (DPO) of the station, Mr Tobi Debakeme, who also confirmed the killing of the robbery suspect during a gun battle with the police, disclosed that the police anti-robbery/kidnapping attached to the station had few weeks ago arrested six members of Arubaggar cult group who had been responsible for serial cult clashes in the community in the last few months.

Debakeme said, “Though two of his members narrowly escaped with bullets wounds, we are sure that in due course, they too will be apprehended. The gang members have been hiding in Abah Unor in a bid to escape justice. The police team confronted the gang around the village square as they came into Ogwashi Uku community.

“We will continue to do our best to protect the lives of the people and their property. The police also recovered two cut-to-size guns from the killed suspect, obviously it was the guns the robbery suspects have been using to unleash terrors in the community.”

Meanwhile, the police commissioner, Anthony Agbizi also confirmed the death of two persons in Ekuku Agbor during a cult clash on Sunday in the area, adding that many others sustained injuries.

Politics / 2019: Buhari, Atiku Not Options For Nigerians – Junaid Mohammed by 12Ebisco: 11:07am On Dec 31, 2018
A Second Republic lawmaker, Junaid Mohammed has described President Muhammadu Buhari as a mistake.

In an interview with DAILY POST, Mohammed insisted that Nigerians made a mistake by voting Buhari.

He added that electing Abubakar would be another mistake.

Mohammed made the remark while rubbishing claims that the chances in 2019 narrows down to Buhari and Abubakar.

He stressed that Nigerians shouldn’t vote if the chances narrows down to the two, adding that they should be allowed to make their choice in 2019.

The medical doctor turned politician said: “I can’t choose between Buhari and Atiku because none of them stand for what I represent in politics and I have been in this business for over forty years.

“Secondly, I believe the people of this country have the right to choose and I also believe they deserve something better which at the end of the day they would be happy about.

“They have already made mistake by electing Buhari and electing Atiku would be another mistake for which only God knows if Nigeria can handle.

“I believe in an election with a choice and if what we are going to have in 2019 melts down to Atiku and Buhari then it’s an election without choice.

“There is this tendency among Nigerians which is very sinical and I do not approve of which is ‘we know that Buhari has failed but the context between him and Atiku is that of evil and lesser evil’.

“I don’t believe in a choice of evil and lesser evil, if you have to make a choice between evils stay home and the next step will definitely follow.”
