Nigeria will not move if we dont start from somewhere. I'm very sure the idea will work perfectly. There is a replacement for it she said "government would favour the use of paper bags in their place."

For the banning of sachet water i may agree with that but for normal nylon bag which she said paper bag will replace, undecided so what i don't understand there is that can paper bag works also in raining season

Sibrah: One thing is so clear, there is no proper disposal and recycling of waste in Nigeria. A good ridance to bad rubbish.

Recycling can be a multi-billion opportunity for Nigerian firms.

All they ever think about is ban. Ban this, ban that. Ban okada, ban importation of rice etc. It never occurs to them that the things they are banning came into existence to meet a need. And as long as the need remains, these things will not go away even if you ban them. Think of creating alternatives and make the things you want to ban undesirable and they will just go away. Naija Govt people just think. Oops! Thinking is beyond their capabilities. Lets just Ban.
One thing I have seen in all our leaders is that they try to solve a problem without creating a solution. That will simply bring another type of problem.

Does it mean that this minister and all of them in that cabinet do not know of waste recycling?All these materials are used in Europe and America and their cities remain clean,their waters unpolluted.Does it mean none of our leaders can think of a pragmatic solution apart from escapist routes?

In the western world, paper bags are used in groceries stores and not plastic bags as you assumed.

Pure water should be banned because it poses a greater threat to health and the environment.

Nice move...

I was in Canada when polythene bags were stopped in major stores. Everyone was forced to get shopping bags and it stuck.
Polythene bags are non biodegradable and destroy the environment..

@ lafile Nice post. We like easy solutions to our problems in this country. Our policy makers do not display any thought process in formulation & exercution of their policy thrusts. Its as if we sleep walk into these things and this is common in all aspects of our economy (Power, Transportation, etc).

Sewage is organic.. Decomposes fast.

Polythene and nylon and non organic/non biodegradable.. They wreck the environment.
